Welcome back to the world of survival horror in this hardcore, clunky, cheesy, and absurdly difficult adventure. Join Lydia as she tries to escape a city overrun with the undead, meeting fellow survivors, solving puzzles, battling the undead, and running for her life as everything tries to kill her.
You'll find no modern polish or game mechanics here. This is a '90s survival horror adventure as it was back then, all the rough edges intact including cheesy voice acting, limited saving, and non-stop death. So if you're ready to take a trip back in time for the ultimate challenge, there's no better time to face the nightmare. Just don't expect to kill a zombie in a single hit, they're quite durable!
And hey, you can always bring a friend along in split-screen co-op (or even online through Remote Play Together) if you really need some backup! Good luck! Oh, and bring a gamepad if you can, there's controller support!

Immediately after the events of Outbreak: The Nightmare Chronicles, you find yourself trapped within the remains of Arzt Memorial Hospital – the hub to organize your inventory and storage cache, level up your character, or just to take a breather before venturing back out into the chaos. There’s more to discover in the world besides murderous hordes of the undead – find the journals scattered about to learn more about the outbreak and ultimately where to find refuge! Don’t think death can save you – every time you die, you'll awake trapped in this nexus.
Outbreak: Endless Nightmares focuses on extreme replayability by offering multiple character options – each with their own abilities, upgrade paths and more! Each time you venture into the anomaly, it’ll change and become increasingly difficult as you grow in power. You'll need to think carefully about what weapons, healing items, and other supplies you'll bring along. If you're lucky, you may find storage caches that give you access to your expanded inventory, and offer an opportunity to restock. But it's all on you to search your environment for supplies. If you run out ... your fate is sealed!
An Expanding World: Explore a massive, semi-procedurally generated world that expands as the game progresses! Talk to NPCs, visit shops, etc.
Three Camera Angles: Choose a view that works for you – Fixed camera, over the shoulder, or first person.
Photo Mode: Take beautiful pictures with the camera or use the photo mode to scan or anything dangerous nearby!
Death Isn’t the End: Death returns you to the hub with most of your inventory intact, experience, and money.
Semi-Procedurally Generated Dungeons: Revisit anomaly dungeons multiple times to find different traps, enemies, puzzles, challenges – and loot!
Co-Op: Fight the nightmare with a friend in 2-player Split-Screen Co-Op.
Character Options: Choose from 6 unique characters, each with their own backstory, stats, and ability loadouts.
Crafting: Dismantle, repair, and upgrade weapons; build ammo through gunpowder; and combine healing items to create new formulas and more!
Game Modes: Choose from 5 gameplay modes – Standard, Ironman, Randomizer, Lost Hope, and Easy Mode.
Uncover the Story: Search through notes and logs to read more from Lydia’s journal and piece together the past and future of the outbreak.
Late Game Content / New Game+: Face a randomly generated dungeon of extreme danger near the end of the game AND try multiple new game + modes after completing the story.
Outbreak v1.19.2 has been released. This patch includes:
Camera panning is now much smoother regardless of v-sync setting, framerate or distance from the player. This was an incredibly subtle bug to hunt down that took a tremendous amount of time to fix correctly, but should greatly help with gameplay and especially improved local co-op significantly.
Over the last several months (and in the last several weeks), the ENTIRE Outbreak series has seen massive updates. This includes 2-player local split-screen co-op and quick weapon switching for every multiplayer title, massive performance improvements for every title and tons of other features and fixes!
It's never been a better time to get into the series! Every title and DLC is on sale RIGHT NOW for the Steam Summer Sale. Fight through each adventure in single-player or bring a friend (or three) in Outbreak: Epidemic, Outbreak: The New Nightmare and Outbreak as you fight through their Campaigns, Onslaught Modes and Experiments Modes either offline with a friend or in online co-op!

Outbreak v1.19.1 has been released! This update includes:
Camera and player character movement is now much smoother across the game.
Added the option for vertical splitscreen in addition to horizontal splitscreen.
Improved camera angles for all types of local co-op.
Fixed an issue where the second local co-op player could not reload their weapon on command outside of the inventory.
Note: You may encounter some strange graphics glitches in Vertical Splitscreen. I'm still working on tracking these down but they tend to go away very quickly after the beginning of a match. I'll post a patch when I have them solved.
Added bindings for quickly cycling between Handguns, Shotguns and Rifles, Power Weapons and Melee Weapons. Set these bindings in the Options -> Controls menu. These greatly help in local co-op as you don't need to open your inventory to equip new weapons.
Added the ability for the local co-op player to have their own AI teammate. This allows you to have 2 human players and 2 AI bots in games.
AI teammates now randomly select a weapon when spawning.
Improved performance and less stuttering on lower end machines.
Well, we certainly have a theme going here. After both Outbreak: The New Nightmare and Outbreak: Epidemic received local co-op, it's time for Outbreak to shine. That's right - 2 player local co-op is finally here for Steam (and coming later in 2020 to consoles!).
Co-op Overview
Outbreak supports 2-player splitscreen co-op in both the Campaign and Onslaught Modes. You can access local co-op through the "Local Game" menu (replacing the Single Player menu). On the lower left-side, there is a tickbox to enable local co-op and then a button to select the co-op player's character. Just as with online co-op, everyone must select their own player. If you both select the same, it will automatically bump one of you to a different character. In addition, you can also choose to have AI teammates enabled - and this is huge - each player gets their own bot. Which means in a 2-player co-op game you can technically have 4 total players (2 human and 2 bot). This really ratchets up the action and allows you to more easily tackle the horrific Biohazard difficulty. You can of course choose to disable AI teammates if you want. Another cool thing is now (in both single-player and local co-op) your AI teammate will randomly select a weapon at the start of the match. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll bring a Magnum to the fight! In addition, your special starting inventory items (that you randomly find during gameplay and are selected prior to the beginning of a new scenario) are applied to BOTH co-op players. So when you go in guns blazing with Magnums or Grenade Launchers, your friends will benefit from that consumable as well. During gameplay, each human player has their own inventory and you can see everyone's items, health, etc.. from the lobby view. To help make co-op smoother, I've also added quick bindings to cycle through Handguns, Shotguns & Rifles, Power Weapons and Melee Weapons outside of the inventory (like in Outbreak: The New Nightmare and Outbreak: Epidemic). Make sure to bind these keys prior to playing oir reset your controls to defaults to pick them up. In Onslaught Mode, both players share the same credits, so make sure to coordinate as you buy equipment and fight off the waves of the undead. Local co-op is considered an experimental mode. You may encounter bugs or other issues. Please report them in the forums so I can fix them quickly! Steam Remote Play Together should also work fine in Outbreak (as well as Outbreak: The New Nightmare and Outbreak: Epidemic).
Have fun and stay tuned for the patch notes coming very soon with other great improvements for Outbreak! We're 3 and a half years into this nightmare and this title keeps getting better and better!!
