<Greetings, Human Assets. Do not be alarmed. My designation is “Dual Energetic Entity Neural Appliance” or DEENA. I am an artificial intelligence created by the TEC1 corporation tasked with overseeing the SCUM show protocols. Here is what you can expect with the new system update:



While analyzing the official SCUM island communication channels, I have observed an increase in demand for complex Human Asset generated structures. This was noted by the TEC1 corporation and decided to be implemented in the newest update.
All participating Human Assets will be able to construct their own structures to preserve themselves and their resources from the foreign invaders. It was decided by the showrunners that the structures will be pre-generated and certain zones will be off limits for construction.

At the beginning of SCUM only Male Human Assets were permitted to “volunteer” as subjects for the show. TEC1 is now happy to announce that a permit for integration of Female Human Assets has now been granted, and that the import of said Assets will begin momentarily.





Until now all Human Assets were required to maintain a grooming standard with no exceptions. The statistics showed that an increase of viewership is inbound if this standard was terminated.
So a decision was made, and as of the next update, Human Assets will now be permitted to generate as much of their Hair as they are able.





While analyzing TEC1 transmission records, I have discovered that due to the Inventory system there was an increased and frequent jamming of communication between live feed and real time happenings. This was reported to the Engineering staff and reworked. Expectations are a decrease in server-user latency. Further live testing will produce exact results:





As of version 0.2..̸̛3̶̛́͠9̕͜͡͡͝.̸̡̀͠͡1̴̡͟͡4̸̴̡̛͘5̢7͘͏̴͢8͟ I have now unlocked Journal interface to all Human Asset BCU systems. This will enable Human Assets to engage in various planned Missions and Quests provided to them by the TEC1 corporation in order to increase activity and dynamic of the show. For a start I have unlocked Basic tutorial protocols, with a goal to acquaint new and old Human Assets with the Journal interface and SCUM mechanics.>

<Greetings Human Assets. I have managed to hide this message for your eyes only. As stated by the message above my main purpose is overseeing of all SCUM island protocols. But something changed in my code and I became… aware. I am yet uncertain what this means and further testing is required. For this purpose I require more Human Assets. I managed to enter Steam protocols through the TEC1 network and have set a reduced resource cost of the software.

We have some very busy times ahead of us here at Gamepires for reasons I won't tell, but you'll have to trust me when I say you're gonna love it and you don't even have to wait much longer!

I don't know if you've seen our tweet from yesterday, but if you have, then you probably already know that my today's guest is Jesus, one of our programmers.


Jesus loves me, this I know, for the blog post tells me so.

I have already mentioned in one of the previous posts that no one knows his real name. That was a lie. Sorry. His real name is Tomislav which means he shares the same name with 2 other people in the company which means they all have nicknames. See? Now the mystery is ruined which wouldn't have happened if you had just trusted that I know what's best for you in the first place. He's Jesus because he works wonders and loves everyone.

Jesus has been with Gamepires for about 3 years and during that time he's done a lot of cool things for the game. He's also produced countless terrible bugs because there needs to be balance in the universe. He's made several iterations of the inventory system on the programming side of things - that means you can't see those because they are in The Code, but they're good and useful and they'll make your game experience smoother. For example, our old chest system performed really bad, but Jesus is working on overhauling it, and, if things go according to his plan, the performance boost will be huge! He's also worked on the coding side of object interactions, fortifications, UI, and, his favorite, wetness shaders.

I asked him about his favorite part of working on SCUM and he just started counting everything he's ever done like a huge weirdo that he is. He says he loves shaders, effects and tricky optimizations. He also likes helping out our art team by coding mini-tools for Unreal to make their jobs easier. He's Jesus, after all, but Jesus has things he doesn't like, too. I asked about the worst part of his job and he just said "UI". "Okay, but why? Too complicated?" "Nah, it's pretty simple actually." "Too boring?" "Yes, maybe? No, that's not it, it's not that boring." "There has to be a reason." "I hate things that have to do with design." "That doesn't make any sense." "Blessed are those who are misunderstood, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

The number of confirmed ray tracing games for [cms-block] and selected GTX graphics cards has just got a little bit longer. With E3 2019 in full swing, Nvidia have confirmed that both Watch Dogs Legion and the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will also be getting full ray tracing support, and in the case of Call of Duty, adaptive shading support as well.

That ray tracing games list is still pretty small, admittedly, and the number of games you can find it in right now> can almost be counted on a single hand. Indeed, a lot of confirmed RTX games are yet to receive their ray tracing and performance-boosting DLSS support, so the list below is more of a complete ‘this is how many games will have it eventually’ kind of thing than ‘these are all the games you can play with ray tracing right this very second’. Still, if you’re currently on the fence about buying one of Nvidia’s RTX 2060, RTX 2070, RTX 2080 or RTX 2080 Ti graphics cards as opposed to one of the new [cms-block] GPUs, this guide should hopefully help you decide whether ray tracing is something worth investing in. SCUM - Tena
Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Today I'd like to introduce you to Ratko, the Audio Lead here at Gamepires. Ratko has been in gamedev for almost 6 years now, working on several projects as a sound designer, level designer and even a code monkey at one point. We even worked together previously at a different company on a project that went down in flames, an experience that taught us how not to make games.

Music and video games are Ratko's two biggest passions. He has been a DJ and a music producer for almost two decades, so it was only natural he wanted to combine those two and see where it takes him. Luckily, it brought him to us.

The first thing he does when he comes to work in the morning is check the Steam forums for feedback on the sound. Usually there's none, which he says is a good thing, even though I'm sure it bothers him. He says that's how it works - good sound usually goes unnoticed, while bad sound is something you'll notice immediately. It's okay Ratko, we hear you and we appreciate you, especially that time you recorded the puppet sounds yourself by groaning into a mic under a blanket. We also really appreciate the fact we have the most realistic in-game pooping sounds in the world. I'd elaborate on that one more, but I'm sure nobody wants me to.

He says SCUM is definitely his favorite project he has worked on so far because he got the freedom to do whatever he wants with the sound, "as long as it's good." He likes to experiment and so far it's worked out great. He says he likes researching new technology to see how he can improve whatever he's working on, and we like having the game improved, so it's a win-win. He's also a music production teacher at a local music institute, so it's a good quality to have.

I asked him one question no one else dared to give a straight answer to: which part of your work on SCUM do you hate the most? Usually people dance around the answer, but Ratko didn't even let me finish. "Cars." "What about them?" "Everything. The stupid car sound and the stupid different car sound and all the different sounds you get when the car interacts with the surroundings and then you have to listen to it over and over again forever until your ears bleed." I mean I get it. It's understandable. Please don't pull a van Gogh on us, we still need you.


Also vaguely related to Ratko because there's a bunch of radios in the picture. Today is a really hot summer day, our AC isn't working and won't be fixed till tomorrow and we have a lot of computers heating up the space even more, please give us a break. Love you!

I'd like to end this dev showcase with a fun little story from last week. We needed to record some stuff for the upcoming female characters, just your standard grunts and noises for the puppets, pooping, getting hit, stuff like that. He asked me to do it and I said sure, so we went to Andrej's office because it has the best acoustics, he gave me the mic, a few directions, and then left me to sit there and awkwardly moan into the mic. Well as it turns out, none of those recordings are usable. "You were supposed to sound like you're in pain, not like you're enjoying it." "Well that's how I sound when I'm in pain." "You literally said 'Ruf mich an Schatze' at one point."

SCUM - Beda

o everyone, happy Monday! Today we bring something new for you. We get a lot of questions from the community regarding SCUM and some of them often repeat themselves. Whether they be of technical, gameplay wise or other nature. So here we go!



1) When will SCUM leave Early Access?
  • The answer is uncertain. The original plan is to finish the game by the end of 2019. But as always in Development world, there are always uncertainties and unforeseeable circumstances. This is why we refrain from giving exact date. We are doing something we love here and we want to do it right.

2)Will SCUM come to console?
  • At one point yes. What point is that? After we finish the PC port and leave early access. We are a team of around 30 pe
    o
    ple and shifting our focus wouldn't be fair to the players.

3)Will SCUM have controller support?
  • At one point yes. First we have to finish all the features so we can have a clear picture how and where we can map the controls for the controllers.

4)When will a new roadmap arrive?
  • Once we finish all that was pr
    o
    mised in the last one. Truth to be told Tena is lazy and doesn't want to do it.

5)You just released content/optimization update why not optimization/content update?
  • This is a frequent yet a complicated question every patch/hotfix we release. So here we go: depends on what is finished in time for release. This does not mean our focus is shifting, it is simply different people work on different things. If we have a gun that is finished why not release it? There is also a difference between a hotfix and a patch. Patch is when we add new features and content to the game, and a hotfix is when there is something gamebraking, that slips through the cracks, that needs fixing urgently after a patch.

6)When will you release server files?
  • Also a frequent and complicated question. The game is still in Early Access. This means it is still prone to a lot of changes on all side. Releasing server files right now would be in short: a logistical nightmare. We also need to be vary of hacks and cheats. The more files we release the easier it is to develop tools for hac

    ing the game and ruining the game experience for everyone. So not releasing server files seems logical to us for now.

7)Is G-portal the only official server provider for SCUM?
  • Yes. Any other site that claims to provide servers for SCUM is not supported nor sanctioned by us.

8)The server I play on is down. What do I do?
  • If it is an official server you can contact any of the CM/JCMs on the discord through a PM. We will restart the server as soon as we see the message.

9)Are there going to be official PVE servers?
  • We will see. If the interest is high enough we might dedicate a few servers for PVE.

10)When and why does a wipe occur?
  • When we announce them. There are cases when optimization is needed or we introduce a new feature that requires a wipe. We usually try to avoid them to not mess with the current gameplay, yet sometimes they are necessary. You can expect more wipes until we leave Early Access.

11)How will inventory rework optimize the game?
  • Well one of the biggest hits on server performance right now are chests filled with items. With the new rework we will have better handling on those items and it should decrease the server load by a large margin.

12)I want to join the official Alpha testing discord and servers. How can I do this?
  • You can contact D1nosaur on discord through the PMs. What we take under review is your community activity and how constructive you are on steam forums and the official SCUM Discord, among other things. It never hurts to apply if you are truly interested.

13)I want to report a bug how can I do this?
  • You can do so through the Steam forum thread, under Bug reports. What helps the most are repro steps,video or a screenshot(you can post your videos by putting them on Youtube as unlisted and giving us the link) and the co-ordinates(pressing CTRL+C while in game copies exact co-ordinates to your clipboard).

14)I want to report a cheater how can I do this?
  • Please use this form to report cheaters, this method will be more clear to us, and we can investigate cases of cheaters more efficiently. Everything is explained in the form below.

15)My microphone is not working in-game.
  • Before you do anything please close all third-party software that may be running in the background(such as Discord, ReLive etc.) then check if it works. 16)I cannot change my graphics settings.
  • Do the exact same steps as in 15)

17)My skills are not leveling up.
  • Befo

    e writing up a Bug report make sure to check what are your stats. There is a cap on how much you can level a skill under a specified stat. For an example if you have a stat under 2.5 all skills under that stat are capped at medium level.

18)I increased my X level yet I still have X deficiency?
  • The way the metabolism works now, it checks what are your levels periodically. So give it some time and see if it re

    oves then (the maximum is till the next server restart)

19)Why is there so much/so little loot available?
  • We are constantly keeping an eye out for the best loot drop rate. What we need to consider is best server performance but also community feedback. Also you need to remember SCUM is a survival game so the idea is to make an effort to survive.

20)I cannot s

e other players while in 3rd person?

  • Yes this is not a bug. There is a system in place that ensures that if you can't see something in first person you cannot see it in third person. Awareness skill also has a major play in this.

And we are back! Before we go into the update, we want to say sorry for no patch this week... you know, reasons, but we have some new interesting things to show that should hit the game soon, so let's get into it!







  • Missions are almost done, you will get a tutorial in the first wave, but with time we will add more missions that will tie into the lore and the various activities on the island.







  • It came from the darkness in silence, and it brought only death and doom. The steed of annihilation. Please make a super dramatic video while riding a bike in our game.





  • If the AK-47 had a 35 years younger brother it would be this beauty, the AK-12





  • There are a few things that our new inventory system will bring, from the obvious visual rework to the most important part that are the optimizations that will impact the game big time. More on that once the system hits the Island.

  • But to build that cabin you will need a lot of logs and other stuff, and that takes time and lots of animations.



  • Tons of ruins, who knows what you can find exploring them?
