o everyone, happy Monday! Today we bring something new for you. We get a lot of questions from the community regarding SCUM and some of them often repeat themselves. Whether they be of technical, gameplay wise or other nature. So here we go!
1) When will SCUM leave Early Access?
The answer is uncertain. The original plan is to finish the game by the end of 2019. But as always in Development world, there are always uncertainties and unforeseeable circumstances. This is why we refrain from giving exact date. We are doing something we love here and we want to do it right.
2)Will SCUM come to console?
At one point yes. What point is that? After we finish the PC port and leave early access. We are a team of around 30 pe
o
ple and shifting our focus wouldn't be fair to the players.
3)Will SCUM have controller support?
At one point yes. First we have to finish all the features so we can have a clear picture how and where we can map the controls for the controllers.
4)When will a new roadmap arrive?
Once we finish all that was pr
o
mised in the last one. Truth to be told Tena is lazy and doesn't want to do it.
5)You just released content/optimization update why not optimization/content update?
This is a frequent yet a complicated question every patch/hotfix we release. So here we go: depends on what is finished in time for release. This does not mean our focus is shifting, it is simply different people work on different things. If we have a gun that is finished why not release it? There is also a difference between a hotfix and a patch. Patch is when we add new features and content to the game, and a hotfix is when there is something gamebraking, that slips through the cracks, that needs fixing urgently after a patch.
6)When will you release server files?
Also a frequent and complicated question. The game is still in Early Access. This means it is still prone to a lot of changes on all side. Releasing server files right now would be in short: a logistical nightmare. We also need to be vary of hacks and cheats. The more files we release the easier it is to develop tools for hac
k
ing the game and ruining the game experience for everyone. So not releasing server files seems logical to us for now.
7)Is G-portal the only official server provider for SCUM?
Yes. Any other site that claims to provide servers for SCUM is not supported nor sanctioned by us.
8)The server I play on is down. What do I do?
If it is an official server you can contact any of the CM/JCMs on the discord through a PM. We will restart the server as soon as we see the message.
9)Are there going to be official PVE servers?
We will see. If the interest is high enough we might dedicate a few servers for PVE.
10)When and why does a wipe occur?
When we announce them. There are cases when optimization is needed or we introduce a new feature that requires a wipe. We usually try to avoid them to not mess with the current gameplay, yet sometimes they are necessary. You can expect more wipes until we leave Early Access.
11)How will inventory rework optimize the game?
Well one of the biggest hits on server performance right now are chests filled with items. With the new rework we will have better handling on those items and it should decrease the server load by a large margin.
12)I want to join the official Alpha testing discord and servers. How can I do this?
You can contact D1nosaur on discord through the PMs. What we take under review is your community activity and how constructive you are on steam forums and the official SCUM Discord, among other things. It never hurts to apply if you are truly interested.
13)I want to report a bug how can I do this?
You can do so through the Steam forum thread, under Bug reports. What helps the most are repro steps,video or a screenshot(you can post your videos by putting them on Youtube as unlisted and giving us the link) and the co-ordinates(pressing CTRL+C while in game copies exact co-ordinates to your clipboard).
14)I want to report a cheater how can I do this?
Please use this form to report cheaters, this method will be more clear to us, and we can investigate cases of cheaters more efficiently. Everything is explained in the form below.
Before you do anything please close all third-party software that may be running in the background(such as Discord, ReLive etc.) then check if it works. If not verify integrity of files and try again. If it is still broken contact us on Tech support forum on Steam and we will do our best to help solve the pr

e writing up a Bug report make sure to check what are your stats. There is a cap on how much you can level a skill under a specified stat. For an example if you have a stat under 2.5 all skills under that stat are capped at medium level.

19)Why is there so much/so little loot available?
We are constantly keeping an eye out for the best loot drop rate. What we need to consider is best server performance but also community feedback. Also you need to remember SCUM is a survival game so the idea is to make an effort to survive.

Yes this is not a bug. There is a system in place that ensures that if you can't see something in first person you cannot see it in third person. Awareness skill also has a major play in this.

Possible fix for player killing himself unlocking kill player achievement.
Fixed the bug with the quad where you couldn't unmount if there was something blocking you from above. You now exit the quad to the side.
Fixed a bug where you would be able to change your opponent selection mode and honk at the same time if you entered a vehicle while in combat mode.
Fixed flickering while changing body properties in character creation.
Fixed the bug when using melee attack in first person the prisoner will face towards his target on other clients, instead of looking in the direction he is facing on the owning client.
Fixed the bug when holding Q or E then holding tab menu and selecting any of the new taunts - character gets stuck
Fix for incorrect penis size calculation. You might have been living a lie this whole time.
Fixed an exploit where you would get double items while leaving events.
Possible fix for crash while dragging items. No this won't happen every time you drag an item, but it's a possibility.
Bugfix for items not being restored into containers (backpacks) while on spawn screen after the event ends.
Fixed attribute calculation in character creation screen.
Ladder cannot be climbed now if entry/exit point is obstructed by obstacle.
Extended placement checks for placing blueprints. This should fix issue with making blueprints in walls, trees etc.
Prisoner head will now always explode if shot directly in the BCU.
Digestion shouldn't stop earlier when digesting low durability food.
Rebalanced several types of ammunition (slightly increased damage)
Lead plates are now easier to get.

Adjusted rate of fire for MK18 (700 > 950 rate of fire) and M16A4 (750 > 700)
The MK18 is much more scarce than the M16A4 thats why we increased the damage gap.

His name is Igor, but literally everyone calls him Iggy to the point where new people will accidentally refer to him as Igor and get blank stares like "who tf is that?" Iggy is one of our 2ish animators and today you'll learn his story!
This is what bro pride looks like.
Before joining us at Gamepires, Iggy had a really cool past life as a very successful Youtuber making Dota 2 videos. Later he worked at another local gamedev studio as a video editor and then finally found his home with us.
If you're Iggy and you know it clap your hands! (Apparently this is a screenshot of a polished animation for carrying stuff around, but why would I give you any useful info if I can make a bad joke instead?)
If you've followed us here on Steam for a while, then you know that he wasn't always "just" an animator. We used to be poor and small and understaffed and Iggy is a bro, so he'd moonlight as a community manager talking to you guys and answering your questions. Then I got here and took his job. Kidding! We have more people for that now, so Iggy is free to concentrate on his holy animator duties, but you can still run into him online from time to time because he just likes talking to people. Weirdo.
We don't do that here, bro.
Right now he's working on the animations for the female characters. Lucky for him, he doesn't have to do everything from scratch and we can reuse some from the male characters. He says that otherwise we'd have to wait 2 more years because that's just the amount of time it would take. It doesn't mean it's an easy fix, though. There's still a huge amount of things to be done and, honestly, we're under a huge amount of pressure to do this right.

Female animations aren't the only animations he's working on right now. For example, down below you can see what jumping from an airplane with a parachute will look like.

Iggy has made most of the animations already in SCUM, as well as many that are still waiting to be implemented. The lovely pooping and peeing animations we have? Those too. He likes working on several things at once because when he gets bored of one thing he can just do something else and then come back to it later. That means right now he's also making animations of shooting from a squad bike, boxing, and rowing. I asked him what his favorite thing about his job is, but he was just like "I don't know, I like all parts of my job" and then when I asked about the worst part he said there isn't one, so at that point I just gave up because I can't handle that much chill.
I already mentioned that Iggy is a bro and that wasn't just a lame joke. We got to work one morning and there was a random piano there. Turns out, Iggy brought his own piano because some people have expressed interest in learning how to play and Iggy, being a bro he is, was like "hey, yeah, by the way, I play the piano, so I can teach whoever here wants to learn to play it." So that's what he does afterhours. For free, just like that, because he's a bro. Several of us are also starting a cringey fake band just for fun, so if you have any songs you'd like to hear us cover, make sure to let us know in the comments. We'll pick the best suggestion and make a very bad music video. For real. It's gonna be bad, though.

We've been really busy recently with some big things coming up soon, so everything else that isn't strictly game-related kind of got put on the back burner. Mirko has been with Gamepires for almost 3 years and during that time he has made a bunch of game assets you all know and love. He says he always wanted to work in game development and he had strong nerd tendencies since he was a kid. A good example of the latter is how proficient he is with anything hardware related. Someone in the office wants to buy a new piece of hardware and needs advice on what to get? Ask Mirko. My laptop is acting weird and Google can't help me? Go whine to Mirko. Most of the times you don't even have to ask. He'll offer to do it himself because he's just nice like that.

He's a self-taught 3D artist who played around with various modeling software at home in his spare time, starting with 3ds Max, using Youtube tutorials and hanging out on different 3D modeling forums. However, he was not always a game developer. Before that, in another life, Mirko was a chef. Yes, you heard that right - Mirko was a chef for 11 long years. I asked what happened there because, while I knew that piece of info, I didn't know the full story. He simply said he got bored of the kitchen and decided on a career change. Just like that? Yep, just like that. Gamedev is obviously a stressful and fast-paced environment, but he says it doesn't even come close to the stress of working in a kitchen. He applied at Gamepires, passed the test and the rest is history.
In his spare time, Mirko likes to make Barbie house models.
That's exactly what's great about him. He's not one to sit on his ass. He wants to do something, but doesn't know how? You can rest assured he'll study the hell out of that thing, watch as many tutorials as he needs to learn it and practice like a madman. It's honestly inspiring. Even most of his answers to my interview questions were inspiring. I asked him what his favorite part of his job is and he said it's learning new things because there's always something new to learn. Usually I'd just make a lame joke about motivational bullshit and move on, but in this case I knew he wasn't lying. Learning new stuff is just his thing.

So what exactly was Mirko's contribution to SCUM, you ask? Well, let's see. Most of his day-to-day work relates to level design, but as you might already know, we're a Small Team™ and Everyone Does Everything™ and so does he. Remember the airport? The most visited place on the Island? Mirko made all of it. The mech? Mirko. The drone that shows up at the most inconvenient times possible and follows you around? Also Mirko. A bunch of underground bases, weapons, new city assets? Yep, Mirko.
We heard you like leaks, so here's a cool one.
His story is an important one and not just in the follow-your-dreams-and-good-things-will-happen sense. I'm not advising anyone to just up and quit their job and be like "I'm gonna be a game dev now" because that's obviously stupid. No, Mirko's story is a story of hard work and dedication to learning and that's something all of us can learn from and aspire to.

Besides faster reload, once we add different bullet types, you will be able to load each mag with different ammo.
Also, you are getting that big bad M82 next patch.

Without this, this update wouldn't exist.
With the M82 getting live soon, we had to make this for an extra reward for all the headshots you will make.
Ship Wrecks
Casual diver, treasure hunter or just need a good place to dump a body. All of them are cool, and thats why we are making some interesting and amazing diving spots like this!
Regarding diving, you will be able to find/craft various items that will help you in diving. We will go into more details in some future update.
Quad bike animations
With the last update on quads, we improved and polished old animations for a better driving experience.
Base build accessories
You all saw in this post some snippets of base building, here are some tools that you will use.
You will need the tools for collecting various resources that are needed for base building. What did pirates do with shovels? Buried their chests!

Current default loot settings are best optimised for fluent gameplay. Any increase puts more strain on servers and issues appear. But we are already working on ways to optimize that aspect.

Hey guys, here we are with a hotfix for some issues that the last patch added.
Bug fixes
Fixed the bug where you couldn't patch wounds after being burned by fire.
Fixed the bug where cutting down a tree would cause other trees of the same type to disappear.
Fixed the bug where cutting down a tree would leave tree collision on the server and cause floating logs above ground
Fixed the bug where trees and bushes would appear to be duplicated.
Fixed the bug where you couldn't get off the quad bike if the driver side was blocked.
Fixed fire damage being framerate dependant. Before fire would do different damage values depending on the server performance. Now it's always the same.
Fixed the bug where you would lose famepoints during events
Fix for item/event duplication bug

QoL additions
Finished adding aging/degradation/wear to all clothing items.
Lowered heat effects of candle and torch items
Searching a puppet now drops items near the prisoner that did the searching instead the puppets position on the server.
Items transfer heat slower if they are contained within clothing items (clothes, backpacks ...)
Items no longer reach cooking temperatures while in clothes or hands.
Cooking meat on skewers working now as expected
Killing a prisoner via a headshot by a high powered rifle will result in his head exploding. (If we don't get videos from this in the first week we are removing it...it's a joke, but really get us some headplosion videos)
Added 10 new tracks to the radio station
Changed number of required days to unlock the survival achievements. Now its: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 24 and 32 days.
Reduced chance for rain. (We got too many rainy days here at the office so at least we can get you some rays of sunshine!)
Lowest shadow settings removed from options
Resolved the issue where meat would continue sizzling after being eaten
Resized the quad a bit so it doesn't look like a toy quad anymore
Optimizations
Wetness system has been updated, wetness calculation is now much faster.
Penis optimization. The D had a mind of its own, but we've managed to tame the beast. Don't ask what this means, just trust that we know what's best for you.
Optimized weather controller on client side. (We are giving your CPU a little breather). It should result in better client performance = more FPS.
Different dedicated server optimisations. It should result in better server performance = less lag.
Check taste
We added a new option in cooking so you can check in what state is the chicken that you're roasting over the fire.
