Pathologic 2 Demo is free and available to everyone. If you are one of our Kickstarter backers or you’ve been subscribed to our Alpha Newsletter, check the Backer’s Portal or your email for the steam key. If you’re none of the above, just follow the link below to subscribe and grab your copy of the demo: http://eepurl.com/c0S8Nv

On behalf of Ice Pick Lodge and tinyBuild, I'm happy to announce that Pathologic 2 will be launching on Steam on May 23. This is actually happening!

The dev team has been making tremendous progress over the past few months, and to give you an idea we made possibly the most bizarre game trailer ever. Check it out:

  • Later this year it's coming to Xbox One (Digital)
  • At the same time Gearbox will release a physical edition of Pathologic 2 in stores across the US and Europe

Hey everyone! My name is Alex Nichiporchik, I’m the producer of games like SpeedRunners, Party Hard, Punch Club, and Hello Neighbor. Today I bring some good news to the backers of Pathologic. I’ll be producing the game from tinyBuild’s side, as we’ve partnered up with Ice-Pick Lodge to help finish this gem.

This has been a while in the making, and we’re finally ready to take the curtain off from where Pathologic is heading as a franchise, and what this means for the game.

First, let's get some things straight

  • What we referred to as Pathologic is now Pathologic 2 to avoid confusion between the original game, Pathologic Classic HD, The Marble Nest, Mor. Utopia, and so on. It was very confusing when trying to explain to new potential fans. Pathologic 2 is a reimagining of the original game.
  • tinyBuild partnered up with Ice-Pick Lodge to bring Pathologic 2 to market in 2018
  • All original Kickstarter pledges are still in effect
  • We’re changing the development methodology to become more open, similar to what tinyBuild did with Hello Neighbor — allowing in-development access to game builds to fans who support the development
  • First "alpha" demo will be demo'd at PAXWest this weekend. If it goes well, it'll go out to all Kickstarter backers

This Announcement Trailer is recorded from the PAXWest demo. It's all live gameplay

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qekTbTpUsFs

Full game is coming in 2018, alphas are coming sooner

In the good old days of game development, typically you’d get a publishing deal in place — receive funding from a publisher, and lock yourselves in for a couple of years until you ship something. Repeat every few years. It’s clear this work method no longer works, not for us or for the industry as a whole. Releasing The Marble Nest gave Ice-Pick Lodge an insane amount of feedback, and after seeing what tinyBuild was able to achieve while being completely open with their fans about games like Party Hard, SpeedRunners, and Hello Neighbor, it was clear the dev process needed a change.

To be clear: tinyBuild is coming on board to help produce Pathologic 2, acting as a publishing partner.

Kickstarter backers will soon receive the first Alpha build of Pathologic 2. The build will have a slightly smaller town and a few systems in place to demonstrate the atmosphere and some of the upcoming gameplay mechanics. We will gather feedback from fans, and adjust the direction of development based on this feedback.

In the old structure, we would spend months on getting complicated systems in place, and hope everything comes together in the end.

Today we spend shorter sprints on accomplishing smaller tasks, and playtest what we’ve accomplished — figuring out if the direction is still the right one. This empowered us to come up with a few fun mechanics that’ll be playable this weekend at PAXWest in Seattle.

If the reception of the PAXWest demo is positive, that’ll be the first alpha we release to you guys. Stay tuned.

Pathologic: The Marble Nest is a mood-piece created to acquaint you with the world of Pathologic. It’s a self-contained short story that uses the same assets and premise and the main game, but works as a spin-off.

In terms of gameplay, The Marble Nest doesn’t feature every in-game mechanic that you’ll find in the real Pathologic, and is generally in pre-alpha state. It’s not optimised, so brace yourself for long loading times, bugs, crashes, and other issues. Early alpha versions are not always exactly fun to play. Please be prepared.

KNOWN ISSUES
  • No saves. The Marble Nest only takes ~2 hours to play, but it's still something to keep in mind
  • Walking glitches. Sometimes characters walk funny. Will be fixed soon
  • Indoor glitches. When you enter a house for the first time, it may not always be there. Just take it slow—or be devoured by angry textures. Will be fixed soon, of course

UNKNOWN ISSUES
are best reported to support@ice-pick.com. Every bug report helps the development!

VERY APPROXIMATE MINIMAL SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
These are not truly tested—we're just writing the specs down to give you a general idea of whether the game will run on your computer.
  • A 64-bit OS
  • 8 Gb RAM
  • GeForce GTX 760 1Gb or higher
  • Intel Core i3 or higher

Obviously, we can’t be everyone’s cup of tea. We’re not trying to. And yet we still believe that there is wisdom to be found in the reactions and criticism (or compliments?) of the people unfamiliar with the original Pathologic and our general style of development.

So: please don’t hesitate to download The Marble Nest and try it out. Share the link with your friend. Slide it under your enemy’s door. Show your parents that gaming can be cerebral. Show your teacher the desolation of a dying town.

Experience that brilliant catharsis of going to a forum and sharing with the world exactly what you think of this thing.

We will be there.

Waiting.

And watching.

Pathologic 2 - alphyna
The one and only patch for The Marble Nest is out. Here’s the list of improvements it makes:

— [performance] the game runs slightly faster now;
— [UI/controls] mouse sensitivity preferences fixed;
— [UI/controls] container names fixed (alas, no more coffins named “wooden cabinets”);
— [UI/controls] added Russian texts for the UI;
— [UI/controls] made smaller resolutions available;
— [gameplay] fixed the bug that made one of the endings too easy to unlock;
— [gameplay] fixed a number of bugs concerning scripting and game logic (triggers not working properly, mindmap nodes being unavailable, etc);
— [text] typos fixed.

Now, you may have noticed that we’re calling this patch “one and only”; this is because we aren’t planning to release any more fixes to The Marble Nest.

We are aware of the fact that a number of issues with the game remain unresolved. However, since The Marble Nest was just a pre-alpha sort-of-demo created to gauge your kind feedback, it would be ill-advised of us to keep pouring resources into trying to polish it. Instead, we are processing said feedback to improve the main game and will now fully focus on developing Pathologic itself.

Thank you very much for all your kind and critical words! We have studied each piece of feedback very closely. If you have anything else to say about The Marble Nest, please keep in mind that it’s never too late to share your opinion on the forums, social networks, or via e-mail: mail@ice-pick.com.

«У мраморного гнезда» вышел единственный и неповторимый патч. Вот что он улучшает:

— [производительность] теперь игра работает быстрее;
— [UI и управление] исправлены настройки чувствительности мыши;
— [UI и управление] исправлены названия контейнеров (гробы больше не зовутся шкафами);
— [UI и управление] в русской версии интерфейс тоже стал русским;
— [UI и управление] добавлены разрешения поменьше;
— [геймплей] исправлен баг, из-за которого одну из концовок было слишком просто получить;
— [геймплей] исправлены всяческие ошибки скриптов и игровой логики (неверные триггеры, отсутствие нужной ячейки в «мыслях» и т.д.);
