Put your skills to the test by competing in the very first season of the Battlerite League.
Depending on your highest rank throughout the season, you can expect to earn a variety of chests, tokens and a Season 1 exclusive avatar!
Ranked has been renamed to League and the ranking system has been looked at and reworked. The matchmaking algorithm has also gone through a complete rework, with the aim to improve the accuracy and speed of matchmaking.
The goal for the ranking system is to make progression feel easier to understand and more fun to play by introducing improved visual feedback when climbing the Leagues as well as adding rewards. We also wanted to make it a better experience when playing with different partners and generally improve the accuracy of the ratings overall.
We hope that you find playing League a more rewarding experience, but keep in mind that we still consider it a work in progress. You can expect improvements to be made in future patches!
Soft Reset
With the arrival of Patch 0.10 today, there will be a soft reset to all current rankings. This will allow for faster climbing and adjustments while preventing players with a big difference in skill level from being matched against each other.
Leagues and Divisions
Grades have now been replaced by Leagues and Divisions. Each League represents players of a certain span of skill, and each League consists of multiple divisions. The goal behind this is to make it easier to understand how high your rank is as well as make it feel more progressive.
Placement The first time you play League (with a team or by yourself) in the Season, you will have to play placement matches. You will then be placed into a League accordingly.
Bronze League Consists of 10 Divisions.
Silver League Consists of 9 Divisions.
Gold League Consists of 8 Divisions.
Platinum League Consists of 7 Divisions.
Diamond League Consists of 6 Divisions.
Champion League Consists of 5 Divisions.
Grand Champion Does not have any divisions.
As you gain rating, you will move between Divisions and if you continue to win you will eventually reach the highest Division in a given League, Division 1. We have also improved the rating calculations so that climbing the ladder is easier (where applicable). Progressing further will promote you to the next League.
Team Rating
You will now have a separate team rating depending on which teammate you play in a party with. The intention is to improve the accuracy of the rating and matchmaking as it will only take your team’s skill level into account, rather than trying to balance out separate solo rankings when playing with others. You will also gain rating as a team, eliminating the discrepancy of having a teammate that gained/lost a different amount of MMR than you.
While playing League you will be able to queue for both 2v2 and 3v3 while solo queuing, but in a party you can only queue 2v2 in a party of two and 3v3 in a party of three.
You will automatically form a team while playing in a party in League. You will be able to rename your team and select an avatar to represent your team if you wish to, after placement.
When playing League, teams will only face other teams and players queuing on their own will only meet players that are solo queueing.
Seasons Based Rankings
Starting today, we are introducing Seasons. The first being Season 1 - Arctic Winds. What this means is that during a particular amount of time, two months for this first season, you will be able to climb the rankings and try to attain as high a League as possible. At the end of the Season you will earn rewards based on your highest attained League.
For example, if you have a team in a League that is higher than your solo queue League, you will gain rewards based on your team’s League.
The Season then ends with the rankings having a soft reset and you will play through the Placement matches again in Season 2.
Rewards
At the end of the Season 1, you will earn rewards based on your highest attained League as follows:

Miscellaneous notes
Sometimes you will be matched against players from a different League than you. If you are playing against a team from a higher League, you will get bonus rating from winning, but if you lose, you will not lose rating.
If you happen to play with a player who is in placement but you are not in placement yourself, you will not lose any rating if you lose the match. The same also happens if you are put in a team with someone who leaves or disconnects.
If you leave a game you will get a rating penalty.
During a season, you can not be demoted to a lower League (but you can go down a Division). This is to make it feel less punishing when playing ranked. You will still be matched against players as close as possible to your rating.
Standard has been renamed to Quick Match. In this mode you can queue for both 2v2 and 3v3 whether playing as a group or solo. You can also face mixed solo and teams unlike in League.
The number of Placement matches can change and is dependent on the ranking system’s uncertainty of new teams.
Placement results are dynamically adjusted depending on the existing players and teams in the current Season.

Champion Updates
In our never-ending quest to perfect all champions in Battlerite, we’ve taken a closer look at Ezmo to even out his playstyle a bit. We’ve also targeted Iva, Pearl and Taya for additional reworks. Our intention has been to increase the number of valid and exciting battlerite builds and choices for these champions. These are not purely balance changes but updates that should enable more diversity and stronger strategic choices.
Ezmo Ezmo has several nifty tools but most of them have been overshadowed by his signature move - Chaos Grip. We've shifted some of this power to other abilities and Battlerites to encourage more diverse playstyles.

While playing League (formerly known as Ranked) you will be able to queue for both 2v2 and 3v3 while solo queuing, but in a party you can only queue 2v2 in a party of two and 3v3 in a party of three.
You will automatically form a team while playing in a party in League. You will be able to rename your team and select an avatar to represent your team if you wish to.
When playing League, teams will only face other teams and players queuing on their own will only meet players that are solo queueing.
Leagues and Divisions -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Grades have now been replaced by Leagues and Divisions. Each League represents players of a certain span of skill, and each League consists of multiple divisions.
Platinum League Consists of 7 Divisions
Diamond League Consists of 6 Divisions.
Champion League Consists of 5 Divisions
Grand Champion Does not have any divisions.
As you gain rating, you will move between Divisions and if you continue to win you will eventually reach the highest Division in a given League, Division 1. We've also improved the rating calculations so that climbing the ladder is easier (where applicable). Progressing further will promote you to the next League.
Season Based Rankings -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Starting tomorrow, we are introducing Seasons.
The rewards that can be earnt are chests, tokens and a Season 1 exclusive avatar.
Grand Champions of Season 1 will have access to an exclusive mount for the duration of the following Season. This mount can only be obtained if you placed as Grand Champion in previous Season.
The Season then ends with the rankings having a soft reset and you will play through the Placement matches again in Season 2.
Miscellaneous Ranking System Changes --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sometimes you will be matched against players from a different League than you. If you are playing against a team from a higher League, you will get bonus rating from winning, but if you lose, you will not lose rating.
If you happen to play with a player who is in placement, and you yourself is not in placement, you will not lose any rating if you lose the match.
The same also happens if you are put in a team with someone who leaves or disconnects.
If you leave a game you will get a rating penalty.
During a season, you can not be demoted to a lower League.
Winter Cosmetics For a limited time you can now unlock Frozen Chests containing guaranteed winter cosmetics such as frost weapons and winter themed outfits & mounts. Winter cosmetics can also be obtained in normal chests although the drop chance is fairly low.

[Edit 2016-12-09] Clarification regarding “Late 2017”. Our goal is to launch F2P by mid Summer but this is not an official release date or something we wish to promise. We are open to the idea of having multiple free weekends or an Open Beta before Battlerite’s official release. Thank you for the continued support!
The Battlerite Early Access has been a huge success and last week’s Free-Weekend was a testament to this. We are now in the process of scaling up the team to increase our capacity across all areas - development, community efforts, gameplay balance and so forth. In the long run we are confident that our efforts will ensure the longevity of Battlerite for several years ahead but we will need more time to develop our internal processes while expanding Battlerite with new features, content and improvements. Because of this, we are now aiming for a Free-To-Play release in late 2017.
It is a privilege for us to be able to make this decision. We can now put more time and effort into the game we love to play and develop. We want to thank all our players, our founders for enabling us to do this.
There are several aspects of Battlerite that we want to improve before a Free-To-Play release. In the near future we will release the first version of our overhauled Ranking System, a new Champion and several quality of life updates.
In 2017 you can expect several new exciting features and updates to the game experience. In addition to this there will be updates and improvements to existing in-game systems such as an improved quest system, detailed profiles, ranking and season system updates, Odeum improvements and more.
We will continue to push out a steady stream of content, new champions, bigger and more grandiose arenas, legendary outfits and new item types to name a few. We will be more active with our community and help drive community efforts. We will develop tools to make it easier to host events and tournaments. We will improve private mode, replays and spectator functionality to enable growth in the eSports scene.
We have huge ambitions and are looking forward to having you with us on the journey, to help us improve Battlerite and create one of the greatest PvP games ever made, together.
