As promised, Version 1.0 of GTFO will be released before 2021 ends, and the team is hard at work making the final push to make that happen. We know that you are all eager to go down into the Complex, so we wanted to serve you a small tease of what to expect. But bear in mind that these aren’t all the gameplay and visual improvements planned for the Early Access departure.
If you still haven’t invested in GTFO – now would be a great time. As previously communicated, we will raise the price going into Version 1.0, and the Halloween Sale is the final sale of GTFO at the Early Access price.
To celebrate this and Halloween, our all favorite tool – the glowstick – will light up your way through the Complex in a Halloween-ish way.
Stay tuned, Prisoners. Version 1.0 is very close.
P.S. There have been theories that the Rundown concept would be something we will only use during the Early Access phase of GTFO. This is not the case – rest assured that we will keep throwing cruelly exciting Rundowns at our beloved community, also as a Version 1.0 game.
The Warden has discovered a new section of The Complex.
And yeah, you're right. They want you and your inmates to go down and see if you can find anything of value. As a result, Rundown Rebirth has been extended to include no less than five new very deadly expeditions. Rundown Rebirth://EXTENDED is here!
Update your GTFO installation, and the new expeditions will be added to the current Rundown.
With the five added expeditions, Rundown Rebirth://EXTENDED now has a total of 13 expeditions, making it the most extensive Rundown so far. And if you would like to see us fail playing it, we are streaming live on Twitch RIGHT NOW, but will also do a later stream at 9 PM CEST, June 23rd.

The Warden got some new Work Orders for the Prisoners!
What does the new Rundown 005 / Rebirth include?
New environment! Adding a floristic touch to the otherwise dark and eerie undergrounds of the Complex…
Chemical cocktails injected into your brain – something called Boosters. Collect artifacts down in the Complex – collectibles that The Warden will evaluate and reward you with Boosters that enhance your abilities!
Reasons to be worried, even when you backtrack earlier cleared rooms. We’ll let you find this one out by yourself…
Flashlight Indicator: an icon that shows if your flashlight is on or off.
+ more, more!
Get to the elevator, Prisoners!
(Change list will be published in a separate post.)
Long time, no see. How are ya? We've been hard at work creating the next major GTFO update – Rundown 005! It is a lot of work as we will add a new gameplay mechanic that ups the gameplay and a new environment. This new feature will give you more reasons to ascend down to depths of the Complex – even if you die. You'll understand!
And Rundown 005 will undoubtedly look different.
Our Level Designers have made incredible progress on this new, beautiful environment. It's adding elements to the Complex you haven't seen down there earlier and changes up the area you play in – adding a more spacious feel and vertical playability… now we're getting fuzzy. You will see.
New dangers are lurking. As usual, we don't want to reveal too much about what will kill you this time. We want you to find that out by yourself. But, let us put it this way: the route back won't be as "easy" as before…
Those are just two of the major news this Rundown will bring to our Prisoners; there will, of course, be more to get horrified over.
The Warden is preparing your new Work Orders – Prisoners. You have 20 days left to complete the current Rundown.
Happy Lunar New Year, the year of the Ox! And while we don't have any oxes (yet?) in GTFO, we added a lot of new content and features during its first year of Early Access (2020). The latest update – Rundown 004 / Contact - introduced both match-making and a layered difficulty system, on top of the new expeditions, new enemy, weapons, and tools.
In December, we extended that Rundown with Rundown 004 / Contact://EXTENDED – adding four more expeditions. That means that the current Rundown you get with GTFO has a total of 12 expeditions. All these updates have increased GTFO's Steam review score to above 90% recent positive ratings (thank you <3).
And now we're celebrating the year of the Ox with 20% off (until February 15).
There's never been a better time to click the buy button and become a Prisoner. Or if you want to get the friend of the year award by gifting it to a friend you think would enjoy dying together with you down in dark undergrounds filled with sinister monsters.
December 9th, 2019, we released GTFO as Early Access, so it's been in the hands of our (fantastic) community for about one year. During this first year, Santonian Industries collected data on how the Prisoners are doing down in the Complex. And to wrap up 2020, they're opening up their data vault!
You might remember we released a short trailer with some of it a couple of weeks ago. If not, you can watch it here.
Now let's dig into some statistics.
As you know, if you're playing GTFO, it uses a Rundown concept where the game is regularly updated with new expeditions (maps, scenarios, enemies, etc.). In 2020, we released three Rundowns – Infection, The Vessel, and Contact. That means we've delivered you 35 challenging expeditions.
Below is how many of you completed all expeditions of each Rundown. Remember, this is very challenging – all expeditions of the Rundown.
Rundown Contact: < 0.1% (still live, so these numbers can improve!)
Reading these, it's important to remember how fun our community seems to have working together, and dying together, in GTFO. By the number of times you're trying to tackle every challenge we're throwing at you – you seem to enjoy it. And keep trying, that feeling when you finally nail a GTFO expedition together with your friends is what the game is about.
91.8% of all expedition attempts fail. Meaning, in 8.2% of your attempts, you get that feeling we wrote about just above. Isn't it worth it?
15,481,694 medical kits have been applied to a team member. Keep caring for each other down there!
You typed "help" in the terminal 624,415 times. Well, we didn't imprison you for your hacking skills…
We wrote about it above. We need to talk about R2E1… 1.4% of you attempting that expedition came back alive.
Total death toll? No less than 12,113,262 Prisoners died together down in the Complex 2020.
One in 10 000. That's how many of you have completed all expeditions of all Rundowns. Who are you? We're insanely impressed, but also… quite scared. The man behind this post has worked with GTFO for five years and not even close to those skills.
210 000 of you! Our Discord grew to a whopping 210 000 friendly community members. If you're still not a member, join us here!
We're global! We now have players in 168 countries playing GTFO together.
GTFO's recent review score on Steam: over 90%. Since launching match-making and making other updates to GTFO during the year, our recent review score has increased to over 90%. Thanks for everyone reviewing and giving us feedback!
We hope you found the above stats interesting. Either you're one of the 0.X%:ers, else we hope you found motivation for future expeditions. Because we're just getting started, we will keep throwing new Rundowns and expeditions at you during 2021 – and other exciting features. Stay tuned! And again, thanks for your support.
