Citadel: Forged with Fire - Community Manager - Denis

Hello, Wizards of Ignus! We once again find ourselves meeting here on a Wednesday, which can only mean that it’s time for our weekly patch! As you may have heard earlier this week in our livestream, today’s patch will not be bringing any new content into Ignus. Rather, we’ve decided to focus down on bug fixing, tidying up a bunch of the community’s most frequently reported issues.

Firstly, we've made some major improvements to performance on servers with large populations and complicated structures. We'll be continuing to look into issues related to server performance degradation, but with today's patch you should hopefully notice a bump in stability.

Next up, Flight Potions will now no longer fill your vision with thick black smoke! These potions were always designed for slow, deliberate flight for precision activities such as building and navigating tight areas. To improve their functionality for these purposes, we’ve taken your feedback to heart and reduced the amount of heavy smoke that these potions emit while in-use.

We’ve also prepared a fix for Necrosis! Many members of the community have lamented the spell’s extreme damage output, requesting a re-evaluation of its balance. Upon investigation, we discovered a programmatic issue with how the spell’s damage was being handled by the game, and have resolved the issue. Necrosis should now no longer the only PVP-viable spell in your arsenal.

Many players have found frustration with the Deconstructor, so we gave it a little love this week in two areas. Firstly, we've made it so the Deconstructor no longer dumps bags all over the place, and instead behaves more like the other magic structures. Secondly, we've fixed a bug that caused the Deconstructor to not work properly with stacked items. Now it will give you the full amount of resources for a stack of items, rather than behaving as if you only fed it one item.

One last major improvement we’d like to highlight here is our fix for tames disappearing on server restarts. We’ve been wrestling with this issue for a while, but we’ve finally prepared a solution that should eliminate this problem for good. No longer will you return after an update to find your precious mounts have evaporated without a trace!

There are so many fixes in this update that I’d like to highlight here – from major crash fixes and performance bumps, to magic structure upgrades and general quality of life improvements – but I think it’s best to let the patch notes speak for themselves. Take a look below at the list, and please feel free to share your feedback and thoughts on our forums! We will continue to digest everything you send us, and will use it to continue improving Citadel as we move forward on our Early Access journey!

Structures
  • Deconstructor no longer dumps bags everywhere
  • Deconstructor works properly with stacked items
  • Empty Magic Structures will now properly replenish mana when hooked up to a generator
  • Can now hold ‘E’ to completely fill a Mana Generator with Rune Crystal instead of having to tap multiple times
Spells
  • Necrosis’ extremely high damage has been reduced
  • Heal Beam’s power has been significantly increased
  • Fixed instances where Pacify could be stopped for seemingly no reason
Creatures
  • Tamed creatures will now no longer disappear on server restart
  • Fixed an issue that caused mana drain to continue when transitioning from broom to mount
User Interface
  • Fixed an issue causing players on Private/Custom servers to lose unlocked build menu options (This will prevent the issue from happening again, but won't fix users who are already affected. You can fix this by using admin commands to spawn in an Elixir of Amnesia and using it.)
Other
  • Unequipping a Broomstick or Flight Potion now stops flight
  • Keybindings now properly persist between game sessions
  • Flight Potions no longer fill your vision with thick black smoke in first-person
  • Various crash fixes
  • Fixed issues where some players could not load into a server
  • Server performance improvements
  • Graphic performance improvements

The Marble Build Contest was a smashing success, and we’re absolutely thrilled by the response we’ve received from the community! The sheer creativity behind the structures you guys submitted – be they abstract, functional or gargantuan – was absolutely staggering, and really left us with some tough choices to make.

After much deliberation, the employees at Blue Isle Studios cast their votes and winners were chosen. We announced those lucky entrants earlier today in a livestream. For those that missed it, we’re ready to share those winners here on Steam!

Fifth Place ($25 Amazon Gift Card)
In 5th place is Sean Caldecott with his amazing Imperial Mages College! Sean spent countless hours gathering resources to create the perfect venue for aspiring young sorcerers seeking wizardly tutelage. The campus features an impressive lookout tower, some lecture halls, and a fetching lakeside balcony. Well done!

Fourth Place ($25 Amazon Gift Card)
Next up in 4th place is Ark with the mind-blowingly abstract Marble Machine Tower! This dizzying skyscraper of convoluted spirals and twisting flourishes somehow manages to maintain an air of elegance by showcasing perfect symmetry despite its overwhelming complexity. The otherworldly appeal of this ambitious construct can’t be denied, and for that we are pleased to count it among our winners! Good work!

Third Place ($25 Amazon Gift Card)
Coming up in 3rd place we have Promstar with his inventive Marble Chess Palace! We love this entry for its functionality and ingenuity: With the right resources and enough patience, two people could actually play a full game of chess within Citadel! A major tip of the cap from everyone here for using our systems in ways we could never have predicted!

Second Place ($75 Amazon Gift Card)
Our 2nd place winner is Bear-San with his Rivendell inspired Elven Temple! Bear-San really managed to captures the light, airy essence of elven architecture by focusing on tall, concaved ceilings with plenty of long pillars. The way the compound sits perfectly on the rocky cliff, flanked beautifully by the enormous waterfall, makes it a striking addition to the gorgeous landscape.

First Place ($100 Amazon Gift Card)
Finally, without further ado, it’s time to announce our grand prize winner. In 1st place we have Decin with his fantastic Wizard Spa! We admit that Decin’s entry isn’t the most elaborate. It’s not a massive castle, nor is it a sprawling city or towering spire. What it is, however, is a creative idea executed flawlessly. From the rugs being used as beach towels to the expertly placed gazebo, Decin’s Wizard Spa looks like the perfect getaway for the weary Wizard traveler. The sparkling blue Mana Pool contrasts so perfectly with the flat white marble, that it really looks like a high class, luxury resort. From all of us at Blue Isle Studios, congratulations!

Honorable Mentions
We’d also like to take a moment to highlight some of the incredible entries that unfortunately didn’t make it into our top five. Some of these came extremely close, and there were a lot of hard decisions made internally about whom to award our prizes to. A few were shy of making the top five by single votes! Here are some of those close runner-up entries.

Raveneye Keep – Mark Beswick

Mad Hatter’s Sky Castle – Kyle Darroch

Forest Castle – Godslayer

Dragon's Fire Castle - Feye Sirensong
Citadel: Forged with Fire - Community Manager - Denis

Welcome to the Weekly Review! Every Friday we’ll break down the latest happenings in the world of Citadel: Forged with Fire. Check back weekly for info on game updates, events, community content, contests and much more!

New Content: Abomination

Citadel has received a gargantuan injection of nightmare fuel! The horrific Abomination - composed of gnarled, rotting flesh and inexplicable limbs, mouths and appendages - can now be found stalking the Plains and Tundra of Ignus.

Born of pure evil, the ominous return of these monstrosities signals the worrying potential for a resurgence of the dark arts in Ignus. Could this be the start of something terrifying?

New Content: Blade of Simeon's Soul

If you want to fight the Abomination you're going to need a migthy weapon! Perhaps consider our newest melee implement: the Blade of Simeon's Soul! This high level longsword packs a mighty punch, dealing a ton of damage at a close range. You'll need to climb all the way to level 50 to unlock it, but it's well worth the effort!

Marble Contest Extension & Update

To give everyone a little extra building time we'll be extending the contest deadline to Monday, September 18th. This will give everyone the full weekend to build and submit an entry to the contest. For the full contest details, see our original news post by clicking here. Be sure to enter for your chance to win 1 of 5 Amazon Gift Cards valued up to $100!

The entries so far have been absolutely mind blowing! Take a look for yourself:

Promstar's Marble Chess Palace makes creative use of the contrast between the dark Ornate set and pristine Marble set. Fantastic stuff!

Trouser Jake's Moonrise Mansion also beautifully uses the Ornate set to accent the Marble set! So palatial!

Titanium's Waterfall Stronghold is breathtaking! The patterning on the floors is awesome, and the overall architectural design of it is very clever.

Decin's Wizard Spa gets massive points for creativity! How refreshing does that water look? The use of rugs as beach towels and the addition of the little gazebo really sells the resort aesthetic. Very nice!

Ark's Spaceship Tower is otherworldly! It impressed us all here at Blue Isle Studios that he was able to make such a unique structure within the requirements of the support system. Well done!

It’s Wednesday, which means we’re ready to drop another new Citadel update! Today’s patch includes some fantastic new content including a horrific new enemy and a gorgeous new high-level melee weapon.

The Blade of Simeon's Soul is a powerful magic blade capable of delivering devastating damage to enemies, human or otherwise. Paired with buff spells like Bloodlust, this level 50 sword is capable of pushing extreme damage in a short period of time, though you will be forced to deliver it from a close range.

As mentioned above, we also have a new creature! The Abomination is an abnormal freak of nature! As our latest high-level mob, the Abomination can be found somewhat infrequently stalking Ignus’ Plains and Tundra biomes. His immense size and duel-wielded axes make him a formidable opponent, capable of inflicting great damage very quickly. His major weakness is that he must get close, so try kiting him and using ranged weaponry. Engaging him in close combat will almost certainly be a fatal mistake.

The Abomination drops a set of new reagents: Sickly Hearts and Dark Plasma. While Sickly Hearts will be used in future crafting recipes, the energy of the Dark Plasma will now be a requirement in the crafting of Elixir of Demonic Spirit. It’s a good idea to hunt some of these guys down to maintain a healthy stock of reagents!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSygtTI3mmU
Here’s the full list of changes for this week’s patch:

  • New Weapon: Blade of Simeon's Soul
  • New Creature: Abomination
  • New Reagents: Sickly Heart, Dark Plasma
  • Various fixes to holes in the world’s terrain
  • Mature Langue Filter now defaults to on (can be turned off in Game Settings)
  • Fixed visual quirks with various armors

As you may have read earlier this week, we’ve also gone ahead and closed a number of empty servers to better compress the community and make finding a populated server easier. If your preferred server was deleted we’ve archived and uploaded each world’s save data. Click here if you’d like to save this data and use it on your own private server/custom game!

Just as a quick note: We are aware that some players have encountered issues with FPS drops on some servers. We are investigating this issue and will update you all as soon as we have more information!

Brace yourselves, denizens of Ignus! We’re getting to ready another content drop tomorrow, including a powerful new addition to the melee weapon tree and a horrific new nightmare beast, The Abomination. Take a look below for a little more info!

New Weapon: Blade of Simeon's Soul

An elegant longsword that has been enchanted with a piece of the legendary sorcerer Simeon's soul. In the right hands, the Blade of Simeon's Soul can be used to efficiently eviscerate Ignus' most intimidating adversaries.

The crafting of this powerful war blade requires a number of precious resources, including Iron and Gold Ingots, Irisite, and Dragon Stone. To unlock this legendary sword, players must reach level 50.

New Creature: Abomination

The wretched Abomination is the result of extensive dark magic experimentation conducted by the fanatical cultists of Ignus’ past. Centuries ago, these monstrosities roamed the plains and tundra freely during the peak of Ingus' dark era, but were eventually driven back and contained by the Priests of Neshan during their crusade against the dark arts.

The reemergence of these towering behemoths is quite ominous, and may signal the return of some ancient evil force. Could dark magic in Ignus be on the brink of resurgence?

Developer Livestream

We’ll be going live tomorrow, September 13th at 4PM Eastern Time to answer some questions and show off the new content in this week’s patch! Come hang out and join the fun at twitch.tv/playcitadel
