Citadel: Forged with Fire - Community Manager - Denis

It’s patch day! We’re putting out another big patch today with two brand new pieces of content: The majestic Divine Unicorn and the battle-ready Tempered Iron Armor. Additionally, we’ve made a number of important bug fixes, gameplay tweaks and performance optimizations.

We’ve put together another fix for out servers that should hopefully bring some of our non-functional worlds back online. The issue is related to the extreme structure load some servers possess, and we’re working to keep up with the increasing strain. That said, this fix should do a lot of good to fix this problem, and we should have another pretty significant fix ready to address this issue later this week.

We’ve also fixed up a bug that caused the Deconstructor to destroy the incorrect items by mistake, which caused frustration for a number of players in the community. Now, any item you drop into the Deconstructor will be the item it disassembles for resources.

We’ve also made a variety of smaller fixes. UI improvements and fixes for 4:3 resolution monitors, new measures to prevent the construction of thrones and other magic structures under water, destroyed storage chests will now drop their loot in loot bags, and much more! As always, take a look below for the full notes, and we hope to see you in Ignus again soon!

New Content
  • New Creature: Divine Unicorn
  • New Armor: Tempered Iron Armor

Structures
  • Heal Beam once again works properly on structure pieces
  • Deconstructor will now correctly destroy the intended items
  • Destroyed storage chests now drop loot bags
  • Can no longer build magic structures underwater
  • IAdjusted Transmuter/Rune Recycler mana usage and output to prevent an extreme resource generation exploit
  • Increased damage on attack tower magic structures

User Interface
  • Further fixes for menus on 4:3 displays
  • New World Create screen
  • Server Name now appears in-game
  • Mount button removed for unmountable creatures

Other Optimizations, Tweaks & Fixes
  • Server structure improvements to bring non-functional servers back up
  • Reduced concentration of rare enemies in some areas
  • Fixed Elixir of Amnesia not removing equipped spells
  • Patched up spots that allowed building under the terrain

Greetings, Wizards! Thanks to your fantastic support and feedback we have another big update coming tomorrow with some new content, gameplay balance tweaks, and bunch of important bug fixes. Take a look below for details on what you can expect tomorrow!

Divine Unicorn

Long thought to be driven to extinction by the twisted dark magic that birthed its corrupted brethren, the Divine Unicorn has reemerged across Ignus. While the common Unicorns embody dark energy and corrupt magic, the Divine Unicorn is pure, and radiates with divine light.

Like its counterparts, the Divine Unicorn is extremely uncommon. Its blood – which can be used to concot powerful potions and is used in imbuing high level magic weaponry – makes it a particularly appealing target for hunters. If you should see one, attack before it flees!

Tempered Iron Armor

The Tempered Iron Armor set is the next set in the Iron path of armors. Like the lower tier Iron Armor, the Tempered set is covered in dense, heavy metal plating from top to bottom, providing the wearer with a superior defense. This set possesses a high base defense stat, and will endure a heavy beating with minimal wear and tear!

No armor is perfect, and the Tempered set is no exception; this set does have a few flaws. For one, it requires a significant amount of resources to craft, which can make acquiring a full set quite the undertaking. Additionally, because of its thick, heavy nature, this set can be quite a burden. You’ll want to make sure you’ve spent plenty of Character Points on Carrying Capacity if you’ll want to wear this set with room to spare for potions, trinkets and loot!

Various Fixes and Tweaks
As always, we'll be making many smaller fixes and tweaks to improve the game experience. Some noteworthy fixes:
  • Servers will again be given more optimization to ensure they stay up longer and can better manage the load of extreme structures.
  • The heal beam will once again work as intended to repair damage structure pieces.
  • The Deconstructor will now destroy the correct items.
  • Increased damage for defensive towers

And much more! Stay tuned for the full details tomorrow!

Marble Set Livestream

Our Marble Set is still a few weeks away, but you can join us for a sneak peek tomorrow at 4PM Eastern Time to see a live build of a full Marble Castle! We'll take your suggestions for where we should build it and what it should look like, as well as answering your Marble related questions, so come hang out in chat and share your thoughts, feedback and queries! twitch.tv/playcitadel

Patches: Siege Spell Rebalances, Bug Fixes, and Other Changes

Last week we added a new system to the game’s raiding dynamic: Siege Spells. These spells are the only ones capable of damaging structures, and can only be cast with the aid of hard-to-craft elixirs. The goal of this new system is to curb rampant griefing and encourage players to make more meaningful choices with regards to who they choose to raid.

Since their addition, we’ve received and digested a ton of feedback from the community about Siege Spells. As a result we’ve made a few adjustments to one particular Siege Spell – Divine Bomb – as well as the unlock progression of Siege Spells in general. Check out our patch notes for the full details.

We’ve also made a few smaller changes to improve the quality of life experience for everyone. No-build zones have been added above Fast Travel towers to prevent players from completely sealing them off, we’ve implemented a fix to ensure that Mana Generator energy does not clear out when a server restarts, and added a new system to allow players to see which servers they have characters saved on.

Developer Q&A Livestream
We had another livestream this week where we answered questions and talked about the current status of the game. Check out the archive below if you’d like to hear us discuss the status of things like major boss battles, structure piece upgrading, dynamic weather and much, much more!

Community Content
You guys have been very productive this week! Some of the intricate structures you’ve shared with us on Steam, the community Discord and Twitter are mindblowing, and we’d like to take a moment to highlight a few. From pyramids to massive cathedrals to towers that stretch miles into the sky, here are our top picks of this week’s creative works:

Lysaria built this absolutely stunning “College of Mages” complete with improvised chandeliers. Really creative use of the ornate fringe pieces!

Narfsrin, in collaboration with some friends, built an amazing city, with a giant Mayan-esque pyramid as the center piece.

Jake Waffles has built quite the fortified palace! Check out those magic defenses.

Unicorn Goddess’s Multi-tied castle is particularly impressive. We love the way each layer naturally rests within the slope of the mountain side. Great placement of banners, too!

Josh Ⓥ is back this week, this time with an amazing spiral tower! I can’t imagine how imposing this thing must be when stumbled upon unexpectedly!

AudioSenpai is building a complex city comprised of sprawling, interconnected ornate structures. Definitely worth a look if you’re in the community Discord!

Upcoming Content
Divine Unicorn

We’ll be back to adding new content in next Wednesday’s patch. Here’s a quick little look one major piece: the Divine Unicorn! Many people love the style of our dark, corrupted Unicorn, but were also hoping to see something a little lighter and more traditional. This graceful, elegant beast will begin roaming Ignus next week, but expect it to be just as rare as our other Unicorn.

Marble Structure Set

If you caught our Livestream last week then you probably saw this little preview for the Marble Structure Set. This set is intended to be the counterpoint to the Ornate Set. While that set exudes a dark, metallic, gothic feel, this new set is focused on being a lighter and cleaner looking option for high level players. This one won’t be in next week’s patch, but it’s getting close to completion and should be available very, very soon!

We’re ready to deploy this week’s Wednesday update! This week will be mostly focused on some rebalancing of our Siege Spells based on your feedback since their implementation last week. We’ve made them easier to get at earlier levels, and have made the Divine Bomb a little less abusable by making its recipe harder and reducing the size of its AOE. You can read more about those changes in yesterday’s Patch Preview..

We’ve also made a number of smaller quality-of-life changes. No-build zones have been added above Fast Travel towers to prevent players from completely sealing them, we’ve implemented a fix to ensure that Mana Generator energy does not clear out when a server restarts, and we’ve added some additional little love to the server browser.

As you may have noticed, this week’s patch contains no new content, as everything we’re currently working on needs a little more time in the oven. We're still hard at work on new creatures, weapons, armors, spells and gameplay features for the game, and will be back to adding new goodies next week. Stay tuned for details soon!

Here’s the complete changelist for today’s patch:
  • Divine bomb AOE radius decreased
  • Elixir of Divine Being recipe now requires 6 Phoenix Feathers
  • Arcane Bomb moved to level 15
  • Divine Bomb moved to level 30
  • Celestial Bomb moved to level 45
  • Added a no-build zone above fast-travel towers
  • Increased Reformation Stone Healing
  • Fixed Divine Orb damage output
  • Server browser now shows which servers you have a character saved on
  • Mana Generators now properly persist Rune Crystals on server restarts
  • Can no longer crouch while jumping
  • Fiery Essence’s weight has been changed to match other essences
