Game Balance

General

Pathing & Targeting
Improved some aggro cases where melee fighters behind other fighters would unexpectedly get targeted first. Minor improvements to reliability/smoothness otherwise.

There are still some cases of mercenary aggro consistency that we want to address, but didn't make it in for this patch.

Classic
  • All sources of true AOE on fighters decreased by 10% damage. This affects Pyro and Boar, among other units
  • Eggsack can no longer be built on wave 21+
  • Sakura no longer gains stacks on wave 21+
  • Dwarf Banker and Big Wig no longer gain gold on wave 21+
  • Reverted maximum mana nerf to Dwarf Banker and Big Wig
  • Giga Mercs-only: Giga Mimic Plunder gold scaling decreased from 1x to 8x --> 1x to 2x
Nerfs to balance outliers in classic: AOE and value-generating units. These changes only apply to classic.

One of our goals this patch is to reduce the average game end wave in Ranked from 15.5 → 15

King
  • 5% weaker on wave 1 scaling to 6% stronger on wave 21
  • Upgrade Attack: 14% → 12.5%
  • Upgrade Spell: 5% → 5.5%
One great thing about Legion is gameplay variety, so we want to bring back more satisfying early game victories.

Masterminds

Champion
- Damage and damage reduction: 8.5% → 8.75%

Low win rate and pick rate.

Kingsguard
- King attack speed: +16% → +18%

Low win rate and very low pick rate.

Lock In
- Roll auto-drafter has been redesigned and is now smarter

The roll auto-drafter doesn't take into account synergies and combos, but it tries to give you a balanced roll with a mix of attack/defense typing, fighter costs, tanks, and DPS.

Redraw
- Gold cost of Redrawing: 1-50 → 1-45
- New: When you redraw, you are now guaranteed to get 6 new rolls (no repeats from your existing roll)

Low win rate and very low pick rate. Redraw was picked in the recent Nova Cup, but had minimal success, and players were hesitant to reroll later in the game.

Legion Spells

All Out Assault
- Income penalty: -20 → -18

Low win rate and pick rate.

Battle Scars
- Health gain per stack: 350 → 330

Very high pick rate.

Counterattack
- Mythium gained when leaking: 55 → 60

Low win rate and pick rate.

Hero
- Damage and damage reduction: 4.5% → 4.25%

Very high pick rate.

Investment
- Income: 32 → 31

Very high pick rate.

Lizard Army
- Mythium: 55 → 60

Low win rate and pick rate.

Loan
- Income penalty: -32 → -31

Very low pick rate.

Press the Attack
- Mythium: 75 → 80

Low win rate and pick rate.

Pulverizer
- No longer increases attack speed

High win rate and very high pick rate.

Sorcerer
- Bonus ability damage: 57.5% → 55%

High win rate and pick rate.

Vampire
- Lifesteal and ability vamp: 24% → 23%

Slightly high win rate and pick rate.

Villain
- Damage amplification: 26% (13% for ranged) → 24% (12% for ranged)

High win rate and pick rate.

Fighters

Angler
- Range: 100 → 125 (Angler finally makes use of its big hook)
- Mana on Angler now increases power score slightly to reflect its value potential

We’re generally opposed to giving melee units extra range to keep them from being focused first, since that creates an arms race / power creep among melee units. However, Angler is an exception in that it’s a very cheap unit that’s heavily punishing if targeted first.

Bounty Hunter
- Mana on Bounty Hunter now increases power score slightly to reflect its value potential

When a player had Angler/Bounty Hunter, it sometimes caused the opposing team to go on fire early game, due to lower workers and income. Then the tables would drastically turn when they upgraded to Kingpin. This change smooths out the power score curve.

Kingpin
- Mana on Kingpin now increases fighter value by slightly less to better reflect true combat value

Howler
- Damage: 17 → 16

Sunfang
- Health: 1980 → 1990
- Damage: 84 → 86

Shifting power from Howler to Sunfang.

Harpy
- Damage: 15 → 12
- New ability: Crimson Claws: Gains 0.25 mana with each attack

This change makes Harpy behave more like Sky Queen, giving her higher DPS upside. She also no longer gets stuck between mana breakpoints.

Pirate Skeleton
- Health: 800 --> 780
- Damage: 32 --> 31

Bringing Pirate Skeleton's stat efficiency in line with Grarl's. It should feel rewarding to rush Spectral Scallywag using Pirate Skeleton's Secret Stash, but it's now harder and riskier to do so. High win rate.

Violet
- Lightning Strike: Mana cost: 8 → 7

Slightly low win rate and pick rate.

Tempest
- Machine Gunner: Damage: 15 → 16

Compensation buff for Leviathan change.

Leviathan
- Bombardier: Damage: 90 → 110
- Aerial Command: Damage aura: 16% → 14%

Leviathan had too much power budget in its aura, which made it oppressive with certain combos.

APS
- Attack speed: 1.22 → 1.35
- Energize: Attack speed aura: 12% → 10%

MPS
- Health: 2320 --> 2370
- Damage: 101 --> 103
- Attack speed: 1.22 → 1.35
- Mythium Core: Attack speed aura: 18% → 15%

APS and MPS had too much power budget in their auras, which made them oppressive with certain combos.

Desert Pilgrim
- Chain Heal: Healing: 130 --> 125

High win rate and pick rate.

Arctaire
- Health: 4320 → 4330
- Damage: 134 → 135
- Frozen Veil: Damage: 8 → 9
- Frozen Veil: Attack speed debuff: -2% → -2.1%

Low win rate.

Gatling Gun / Vulcan Cannon
- Attack speed: 2.35 → 2.38

Partially reverting the nerf in the last hotfix, which went too far. Slightly low win rate and pick rate.

Priestess of the Abyss
- Burst Attack: Percent max health damage: 0.035% → 0.03%

Azeria
- Echostrike: Percent max health damage: 0.1% → 0.085%

Right now, Priestess and Azeria can do everything, so we’re shaving off their late game power. Slightly high win rate and pick rate.

Starcaller
- Increased mana synergy by 10%

Machine gun Starcaller was a fun combo that was overnerfed a while back.

Mercenaries

These changes encourage early game aggression.

Brute
- Damage: 53 → 54

Mimic
- Damage: 113 → 115

Imp
- Damage: 41 → 42

Ogre
- Attack speed: 1.16 → 1.11
- Knock Out: Damage: 125 → 150

More power budget in its ability to make it stronger, particularly in the early game.

Shaman
- Health: 3000 → 3300
- Damage: 110 → 120
- Blood Rush: 40 damage → 10% attack speed + 25 damage

By popular demand, bringing back Shaman’s attack speed buff. This makes Shaman strong on boss and elite waves and with other powerful mercenaries.

Kraken
- Health: 6230 → 7450
- Damage: 251 → 291
- Removed Ancient Power
- Now considered a boss, giving it reduction against most debuffs and benefiting from Hermit and Pack Leader’s bonuses to bosses

Ancient Power made Kraken less viable in the early and mid game, and a must-send in the late game. This change increases its versatility and makes it our first-ever boss mercenary!

Waves

Waves 11-19 buffed by 2% to help games close out faster.

Balance Watchlist
The dev team is constantly monitoring game balance, between looking at data and listening to community feedback. If anything is being more closely monitored than usual, it will be listed in this Balance Watchlist section. For this patch, the following are on the watchlist:
- Game pacing
- Spectral Scallywag
- Berserker / Fatalizer

Campaign
  • Buffed Brock, Shadowynn, and Rex Ribbitor on Hard difficulty
  • Nerfed Victra on normal difficulty and Bonny Flay, Sven, Crashton, and Victra on Hard difficulty
Thank you to Schakara, DarkQuacker, SetoKaiba, and Recklezz for testing and feedback.

Improvements & Fixes

Performance Optimization
The game should run a bit smoother, particularly in late-game spamfests.

New Feature: Mastermind Roll Selection 2.0

Improved hint system and now displays a Wave Strength Bar to communicate how strong your roll is rated per wave.

Note the scoring system mainly looks at damage and defense types, and is not intended to be perfectly accurate. It’s just a starting point/sanity check, especially for newer players.

New Feature: Classic Modes Auto-Voting

In Options → Interface, you can configure auto-voting for Classic modes so you don’t have to worry about voting every time.

New Feature: Classic Mode Voter Essence Bonus

If you vote Yes for a Classic Mode, you now gain a small +10 Essence boost for each vote. #IVotedToday

Both of these changes aim to further encourage voter participation to make sure everyone’s preferences are expressed.

Minor Improvements
  • Recommended Value: Offensive Legion Spells from the player attacking you (i.e. Giant Snail, Lizard Army, Robo Squad) are now better taken into account
  • MVP: Added “Most shutdowns farmed” and “Fewest shutdowns given up” to MVP formula & tooltips
  • Spectate: Win probabilities now take game rating into account
  • Bots: Improved some fighter placement in some situations. Also now smarter about sending with teammates when queueing sends or sending at the very last second. Also fixed some cases where they wouldn’t build if you disconnected with only a few seconds until the next wave.

Fixes
  • Classic: Giga Mercs: Fixed a bug where Lizard Army + sending 8 Lizards wasn’t stacking properly
  • Classic: Income Bonus: Fixed some rare cases where the income bonus wasn't given appropriately (if your Classic elo was exactly 0)
  • Classic: Superhero: Fixed a bug where you couldn’t control which Hero-style ability was used if you saved up multiple unused abilities, then tried to use them later. Also fixed Superhero in-game message.
  • Classic: Superhero: Fixed a bug where bots didn’t use Superhero abilities
  • Classic: Superhero: Fixed a bug where if you sold a unit with multiple Hero-style abilities, it wouldn’t properly recover all of them (now it does)
  • Classic: Tower Defense: Adjusted all ability ranges to match increased attack ranges (This should fix cases where Elite Archer, Masked Spirit, etc. were unexpectedly not using their abilities while attacking)
  • Classic: Tower Defense: Fixed some pathing/targeting issues at the bottom of the lane
  • Classic: Tower Defense: Fixed some units unintentionally being able to cast their abilities on fighters in other players’ lanes
  • Custom Games: Fixed Custom Game room settings not being synced properly when a new player joins
  • Graphics: Fixed a lighting glitch in the forest to the left of Player 1’s lane
  • HUD: Fixed a bug where pinging an enemy player’s value during the build phase would mistakenly display misleading recommended value
  • Singleplayer/Co-op: Fixed a rare case where a bot wouldn't build properly for Wave 1 after a Restart
  • Spectate: Fixed some cases of having invisible towers during build phase
  • Stats: Fixed some rare cases of player stats not being updated after a game finished

Closing Remarks

This patch aspires to smoothen out some of the bumps that came with the major updates from v11.00 and v11.01 in January/February. Thanks to tens of thousands of games of data and player feedback through Discord, Reddit, and Steam, we are able to have confidence to improve the game every day.

We hope you enjoy the QoL improvements and fixes, too. Teehee.

As always, with any major patch, we'll keep a close eye on things and rapidly hotfix as long as needed.

Thank you again for playing Legion TD 2! We hope you continue to enjoy the game.

If you've enjoyed the game, but haven't left a review yet, please consider posting a short (hopefully positive ) review for the game! If the game reaches 90% positive, Steam will give it more visibility = more players = more freelo better matchmaking!

If you enjoy these updates, please give it a Thumbs Up, too!

And as always, if you have constructive criticism, let's chat about it. Discord and /r/LegionTD2 on reddit are our main channels of communication, and aside from the development team, there are community helpers who can ensure your feedback is heard, as well as answer pretty much anything you've ever wanted to know about the game. Team Sign-up Instructions
  • Sign-ups are open from NOW until February 24 9am PST / 6pm CET.
  • To sign up, find a teammate and form a party. After you're both in the party, have one player type "/signup [team name]" (e.g. /signup Snail Kings) in chat. You should see a confirmation message that your sign-up went through. For those who participated in previous Nova Cups, you no longer need to do /join to signup.
  • The first 16 teams to sign up in each division can participate. For division 1 and 2 the top 8 teams are drafted per division. Other teams are waitlisted. There are usually no-shows, so waitlisted teams are encouraged to be present in the Discord and ready to play. {LINK REMOVED} to see your sign-up position and division.
  • If there are more than 32 teams checked in, there will be an additional best-of-1 qualifying round to allow more teams to participate. It is a best-of-1, rather than a best-of-3, to keep the event from running overly long.
  • Both players must join the Legion TD 2 Official Tournament Discord. Make sure to set your server nickname to match your in-game name.
Solo Sign-ups
  • You may sign-up as a solo with a suggested team name using the "/signup [team name]" command. Solo teams will be added to the Public Teams list, then be formed into teams on the day of the tournament. Solo teams will be randomly assigned a team name from either of its members.
  • If there is a waitlist, team sign-ups will always take priority over solo sign-ups
  • If you sign up as a solo, but then you find a teammate, you can re-sign up as a team any time before check-ins start. Just use the /signup command again with the new teammate. The tournament organizer will void your old solo signup after they process your new team signup.
  • After check-ins are over, all checked-in solo players will be randomly formed into teams by the tournament organizer. You cannot request a specific teammate at this point; if you want to play with a specific person, you should have signed up as a team instead.
It is still strongly recommended to sign-up as a team to guarantee your spot in the tournament and to give you time to practice with your teammate beforehand.

Schedule

Saturday, February 24
  • Check-in window: 8:45 - 9:15am PDT / 5:45 - 6:15pm CET
  • Games: 10am - 1:30pm PST / 7 - 10:30pm CET
    • Round of 16 (Best of 3)
    • Quarter-finals (Best of 3)
Sunday, February 25
  • Check-in window: 9 - 9:30am PDT / 6 - 6:30pm CET
  • Games: 10am - 1:30pm PST / 7 - 10:30pm CET
    • Semi-finals (Best of 3)
    • Final (Best of 5)
Check-in
  • Teams must check in via the Legion TD 2 Official Tournament Discord. Waitlisted teams should also check in.
  • Any team that fails to check in will be disqualified. The next team on the waitlist that checked in will earn a spot.

Game Format

The custom game room creator should enable Tournament Mode in the room. This will ensure the following settings:
  • 2v2
  • Mastermind only
  • Hybrid disabled
Division 1 & 2 Only
- Conquest rules apply. (Once you win with a Mastermind playstyle, you and your ally can't use that playstyle again for that series)

Legion TD 2 - Multiplayer Tower Defense - Lisk
This post will be updated with hotfixes, with the most recent at the top.

Hotfix 1
(02/14)
- Network stability tweaks
- FairPlay tweaks
Feb 12, 2024
Legion TD 2 - Multiplayer Tower Defense - Lisk

Minor patch to round out the edges of some of the v11.01 changes. As always, data & feedback will continue to be closely monitored for more tweaks as needed.

Masterminds

Redraw
- Redraw gold cost formula tweaked to have lower costs early-game (still scales from 1-50)

Kingsguard
- Income: +2 → +3
- Attack speed: +22% → +16%

Kingsguard’s low income made it too niche; this power shift should bring it closer to the other masterminds to make it a more conventional pick.

Fighters

Slime Larva
- Attack speed: 1.79 → 1.81

Low win rate.

Gatling Gun / Vulcan Cannon
- Attack speed: 2.44 → 2.35

High win rate. Post-rework, it's been fun seeing the gun mowing down enemies from long-range, but a quick nerf was definitely in order.

Priestess of the Abyss
- Attack speed: 0.948 → 0.935

Azeria
- Attack speed: 0.971 → 0.957

High win rate.

Mercenaries

Re-buffing early game power mercenaries to encourage aggression.

Brute
- Health: 800 → 840

Imp
- Attack speed: 1.03 → 1.06

Mimic
- Health: 2150 → 2270
- Attack speed: 1.18 → 1.19

Ogre
- Health: 2700 → 2800

Ghost Knight
- Health: 3700 → 3730

Centaur
- Health: 3800 → 3920
- Attack speed: 1.54 → 1.5

Needler
- Damage: 131 → 126

High win rate.

Waves

Late game wave buffs to help games close out sooner.

Wave 18: Wale Chiefs
- Damage: 180 → 185
- Poison-tipped Pole: Single target damage: 260 → 270

Wave 19: Dire Toads
- Health: 4350 → 4400
- Damage: 114 → 116

Wave 20: Maccabeus
- Damage: 200 → 205

Balance Watchlist
The dev team is constantly monitoring game balance, between looking at data and listening to community feedback. If anything is being more closely monitored than usual, it will be listed in this Balance Watchlist section. For this patch, the following are on the watchlist:
- Mercenaries and game pacing

We’re continuing to closely monitor the meta to ensure a variety of strategies are viable and will make improvements as more data and feedback rolls in.

Bug Fixes

- Graphics: Fixed a bug in Giga Mercs where Mimic was accidentally disappearing instead of growing larger
- Graphics: Fixed a bug with Arc of Justice missile not being rendered from the correct start/end points
- Classic: Tower Defense: Fixed a bug with Cursed Casket (+ upgrades) not attacking/casting its spell properly

Legion TD 2 - Multiplayer Tower Defense - Lisk
This post will be updated with hotfixes, with the most recent at the top.

Hotfix 8
(02/09)

- Graphics: Fixed some cases where units were still not scaling to the correct size (for real this time, I think I fixed it)
- Loading Screen: Fixed a display-only bug where fully loaded players didn't appear fully loaded
- HUD: Fixed some cases where Attack Targeted By icons were not showing up properly

Hotfix 7
(02/08)

- UI: Fixed some UI issues with dual building; now it should show combined fighter Value & averaged Workers correctly

Hotfix 6
(02/08)

- UI: Fixed some relatively rare cases where Dual Build Duel wasn't letting players build in the dual lane

Hotfix 5
(02/07)

- UI: Fixed a bug where some unit hitboxes were larger than intended, resulting in some units being hard to click
- Game Balance: King Regen: 0.006% max health + 0.006% missing health --> 0.0045% max health + 0.0045% missing health.

We're continuing to collect data and evaluate further changes. For now, nerfing regen to make damage stickier and encourage early game aggression.

Hotfix 4
(02/06)

- Graphics: Fixed a bug with Nekomata visually increasing in size after using Spirit Offering
- HUD: Fixed a few cases where HUD icons were unexpectedly slightly changing border colors/hues

Hotfix 3
(02/05)

- Menus: Fixed a bug where purchasing a card with Card Fragments would get stuck while playing the animation
- Menus: Fixed a bug with Robo Card being the wrong rarity in some screens
- HUD: Optimized & reenabled HUD Targeted By icons feature
- Classic: Fixed a bug with Superhero mode with Divine Blessing where Divine Blessing wasn’t being lost on death
- Classic: Fixed a case where players who played a lot of 1v1 games during the preseason event had bugged Classic ratings (due to not getting their new player rating bonus)

Hotfix 2
(02/05)

- HUD: Temporarily disabled HUD Attack Target UI since it may be causing increased lag. We will monitor, possibly optimize, and reenable in a future patch.
- Graphics: Added an extra cosmetic projectile for Gatling Gun & Vulcan Cannon to feel better

Hotfix 1
(02/05)

- UI: Fixed brightness of fighter icons when in battle phase to match the build phase (it was unintended to be different)

News
Major Updates

New Mercenary: Robo

Long-ranged. Wields a mini flamethrower from afar.

Robo Stats
  • 40 mythium mercenary
  • Type: Power mercenary (reduced income)
  • Role: DPS
  • Ranged / Magic / Fortified
As the cheapest power mercenary in the game, Robo gives you more options to be aggressive and break your opponent.

Classic Modes Overhaul
A near-complete overhaul of the Classic experience!

New Classic Mode: Superhero
On Wave 6 and 16, gain a random Legion Spell from the following: Divine Blessing, Guardian Angel, Hero, Magician, Protector, Sorcerer, Titan, Vampire, Villain.

New Classic Mode: Dual Build Duel
Everyone must dual build!

New Classic Mode: Mini and Wumbo
Random roll with only T1s and T6s. Start with 8 income.

New Classic Mode: Tower Defense
All fighters are stationary, but have +500 range. All enemies are melee ranged.

Harpy, Sky Queen, Great Boar, and Red Eyes received compensation buffs in this mode only.

Reworked Classic Mode: Giga Mercs
- When you summon multiple copies of the same mercenary, they merge together to form a gigachad one with combined stats.
- Abilities are also scaled. Safety Mole's Safety Aura scales to 4x power (instead of 8x for other abilities)
- Mythium costs & incomes returned to normal.

Retired Classic Modes
Leak2Win, Ordered Chaos, and Blitz have been retired. They may be reworked at a future date, but for now we’re excited about the new lineup.

Mastermind Reworks

Reworked Mastermind: Redraw

- Reroll UI Button renamed to “Redraw” and uses a different icon to differentiate it from traditional Reroll.
- Now gives you unlimited redraws! Each redraw costs 1-50 gold, scaling with wave number

The goal is to better fulfill the fantasy of assembling that perfect build. Thanks to everyone who gave feedback on the initial rework. As always, we will monitor closely and make changes as needed.

Reworked Mastermind: Lock-In

- Income: +3 → +4
- Now auto-drafts a roll (using the automatic roll recommendation), rather than drafting a roll yourself
- New “Lock-In Random Fighter” button, which gives you +6 gold

The goal is to make Lock-In the premier New-Player-Friendly Mastermind pick. Drafting is difficult and intimidating for new players, and being behind on income was a sizable disadvantage. The new Lock-In avoids the burden of drafting and closes the income disadvantage gap.

Additionally, Lock-In is now a viable option for veteran players who can randomize a Lock-In for bonus gold.

Reworked Mastermind: Kingsguard

(From v11.00.5, an earlier hotfix patch)
For those who missed the hotfix patch notes, Kingsguard had been reworked to the following:
- Old: +2 income. Start the game with 2 of each king upgrade.
- New: +2 income. Your king gains +22% attack speed.

Improved Pathing & Targeting
Pathing & targeting should behave more consistently now, without any core logic having been changed. This should make battles more consistent across the board, though not completely deterministic.

As an example, we ran a 1,000 battle simulations with a Gateguard built at (1, 7) against a Snail on Wave 1 as follows:

- On the previous patch, it cleared 76/1000 times, with leaks varying between 43-58% (Screenshot)
- With the improvements, it cleared 1000/1000 times.

Guess we should remove “slot machine simulator” from the Steam Store tags.

Game Balance

General

Leak Gold
- The player causing the leak now receives ~35% more gold, and teammates receive comparatively less gold. You did the work, you should get the payoff.
- In other words, players who apply pressure and break their opponent are now more individually rewarded. This makes chain-income sending and playing selfishly less individually rewarding.

Thanks to Bert in Discord for the suggestion.

Masterminds

Champion
- Damage and damage reduction: 8% → 8.5%

Low win rate.

Kingsguard
- Attack speed: +20% → +22%
- Now displays a Kingsguard icon for every player on the opposing team that took Kingsguard. This no longer reveals which specific player picked Kingsguard, only that some player(s) picked it.

Slightly low win rate and pick rate.

We’re happy with the recent rework, but Kingsguard is still slightly underperforming.

King
- Health decreased by 7%, base damage decreased by 50%, and attack speed decreased by 2%
- Lightning Hammer: Percent current health damage: 6% → 12%
- Upgrade Spell: 7% → 5%
- Upgrade Attack: 10% → 14%

The king is now slightly weaker against small leaks and slightly stronger against big leaks. Overall, slight nerf to compensate for weaker mercenaries this patch.

Fighters

Looter / Pack Rat
- Attack speed: 1.06 → 1.08

Low win rate and pick rate.

Masked Spirit / False Maiden / Hell Raiser
- Attack speed: 1.047 → 1.064

Low win rate and pick rate.

Chained Fist / Oathbreaker
- Attack speed: 0.94 → 0.92

High win rate.

Howler / Sunfang
- Wolf Pack: Max stacks: 10 → 12

Low win rate and pick rate.

Gargoyle
- Health: 280 → 330
- Stone Skin: Damage Reduction: 1 + 30% → 1 + 20%

Green Devil
- Health: 1050 → 1250
- Granite Skin: Damage Reduction: 1 + 35% → 1 + 25%

Gargoyle and Green Devil are now slightly stronger on their own, but weaker with “Chieftain Cheese” health-stacking.

Sea Serpent / Deepcoiler
- Health increased by 4.5%

Very low pick rate.

Gateguard / Harbinger
- Attack speed: 0.99 → 0.97
- Chaos Hound / Cerberus: Attack speed: 0.99 → 0.97

Compensation nerf for being indirectly buffed by pathing and mercenary changes

Canopie
- Health: 4000 → 4050

Low win rate.

Cursed Casket / Cage of Pain / Iron Maiden
- Health decreased by 2%

High win rate.

Elite Archer / Trinity Archer
- Attack speed: 1.03 → 1.015

High win rate and pick rate.

APS / MPS
- Attack speed: 1.27 → 1.22

High win rate and pick rate.

Gatling Gun
- Damage: 39 → 49
- Attack speed: 2.17 → 2.44
- Full Throttle removed

Vulcan Cannon
- Health: 2860 → 2800
- Damage: 102 → 135
- Attack speed: 2.17 → 2.44
- Bullet Rain removed

Gatling Gun was perpetually one of the least-picked units in the game, despite having a high win rate. It was difficult to position well, and even if you did, things outside of your control were often the difference between your Gatling Gun partially tanking and dealing maximum DPS, and tanking too much and quickly dying - a fine line between polar opposite results. We’re removing their faster attack speed and higher damage taken when attacking closer targets, but keeping their identity as immovable, long-range, fast-attacking fighters.

Berserker / Fatalizer
- Attack speed: 2.04 → 2.22
- Brawler and Duelist now cap after 20 stacks (~10 seconds of attacking the same target)

Stronger in general. Weaker in extreme cases, particularly against wave 20.

Radiant Halo
- Particle Wave: Damage: 9 (3 to bosses) → 10 (5 to bosses)
- Particle Wave now caps after 10 stacks (~10 seconds of attacking the same target)
- Solar Flare: Stacks 3 times → Stacks infinitely

Arc of Justice
- Purification Beam: Damage: 24 (8 to bosses) → 28 (14 to bosses)
- Purification Beam now caps after 10 stacks (~10 seconds of attacking the same target)
- Solar Flare: Stacks 3 times → Stacks infinitely

Stronger in general. Weaker in extreme cases, particularly against wave 20.

Mercenaries

Mercenaries have been significantly power-creeped over the years, which caused long-saving mythium to become too strong in the mid/late game. We’re scaling this back with nerfs to all mercenaries, which will shift the power budget of mercenaries back into income.

These changes will shake up the meta, and while we do our best not to make overly disruptive changes, we believe this is the best long term solution - and perfect timing for it, given it's early in the season and there's a brand new 40-cost mercenary!

High-income mercenaries are nerfed roughly 20% and power mercenaries are nerfed roughly 10%.

Snail
- Health: 290 → 240
- Damage: 12 → 9
- Attack speed: 0.96 → 0.93

Lizard
- Health: 350 → 290
- Damage: 35 → 29

Dragon Turtle
- Health: 600 → 500
- Damage: 25 → 19

Brute
- Health: 880 → 800
- Damage: 61 → 53

Fiend
- Health: 950 → 760
- Damage: 27 → 20

Dino
- Health: 1300 → 1030
- Damage: 62 → 48

Hermit
- Health: 700 → 600
- Damage: 40 → 35

Imp
- Health: 760 → 700
- Damage: 46 → 41

Cannoneer
- Health: 950 → 800
- Damage: 113 → 94

Safety Mole
- Health: 1700 → 1500
- Damage: 88 –> 72

Drake
- Health: 1320 → 1000
- Damage: 84 → 70

Pack Leader
- Leadership Aura: Damage: +5 → +4

Mimic
- Health: 2350 → 2150
- Damage: 125 → 113

Witch
- Health: 1800 → 1450
- Attack speed: 1.32 → 1.23
- Froggo: Health: 500 → 400
- Froggo: Damage: 36 → 32

Ogre
- Health: 2950 → 2700
- Attack speed: 1.31 → 1.16

Ghost Knight
- Health: 4100 → 3700
- Damage: 187 → 168

Four Eyes
- Attack speed: 2.2 → 1.96
- Death Stare: Now does 40% reduced damage against the king

Centaur
- Health: 4200 → 3800
- Attack speed: 1.77 → 1.54

Siege Ram
- Health: 5750 → 5200
- Damage: 295 → 266

Shaman
- Blood Rush: 10% attack speed + 40 damage → 40 damage

Needler
- Damage: 55 → 131
- Attack speed: 1.9 → 2
- Needle Spray (triple shot) removed

Needle Spray wasn’t serving its original purpose of countering cheap units and instead was just increasing battle rng, so we’re removing it.

Kraken
- Health: 6970 → 6230
- Damage: 281 → 251

Waves

Wave 18: Wale Chiefs
- Poison-tipped Pole: AOE damage: 25 → 20

Wave 20: Maccabeus
- Health: 65000 → 62000

Maccabeus was too strong. Combined with being hard-countered by certain builds, wave 20 was problematic. This nerf encourages trying to clear wave 20, rather than stall as long as possible.

Balance Watchlist
The dev team is constantly monitoring game balance, between looking at data and listening to community feedback. If anything is being more closely monitored than usual, it will be listed in this Balance Watchlist section. For this patch, the following are on the watchlist:
- Mercenaries and game pacing

Improvements & Fixes

New Feature: Classic Modes in Custom Games!

- You can now select which Classic Mode shows up in the Custom Game room
- A simple majority vote (+1 yes vote) is enough to pass in Custom Games (as opposed to Classic, which requires +2 yes votes)
- Disabled old Chaos, Hybrid, Prophet, and No T1 Modes, (they are largely redundant with the Classic Modes & Masterminds)
- Improved MVP formula

Emotes Refresh

New: Community Emotes!
There's nothing more sophisticated than using the right emoji at the right time, and it is our mission to give players the tools to do that.
- doofFiesta
- drachirWHAT
- lwonSMAR
- julianOHNO
- kingdanzz
- mrslickinsRespectable
- ofmaNerdge
- pennyPog
- pennyShiko
- fast

Plus, some Emotes QoL!
- Emote UI Options display has been improved to make it easier to configure your Emote lineup (Screenshot)
- Emotes by default now display without the white chat bubble (after some feedback & evaluation, we think they look better without the bubble. Apologies it took us this long to make this change).
- Emotes are now their own tab in Options
- Added a “Use Emote” quest to the weekly quest pool

As a compromise, an option called “Hide white bubble background behind emotes” has also been added to display the bubble for players who do like the pop-out appearance; just set that to OFF to keep the current behavior.

New Feature: Targeted Units HUD Display

The HUD now displays the units that the currently selected unit is targeting & targeted by.

Aside from looking cool, this could help players better understand which fighters are taking aggro.

New Feature: Nekomata Undo Spirit Offering

You can now undo Nekomata Spirit Offering stacks! Hold SHIFT to toggle on the Undo button.

Hell, it's about time.

New Feature: Guild Discord link

Guilds: Added a “Guild Discord link” field - publicly viewable, editable by the Guild Leader only. Link must start with "discord.gg/"

New Feature: Top Games Rewards

Making it onto the Top Games leaderboard now rewards 1000 Essence & notifies you with an inbox message.

Minor Improvements
  • Campaign: Campaign opponents now react with emoji if you long save against them (: pleading : when you long-save, : mild_panic : when the send finally comes)
  • Classic: Takeover Bots when Dual Building now build & upgrade fighters (not very intelligently, but at least they build something instead of just workers)
  • Graphics: Units now smoothly scale up/down when changing size
  • HUD: Unit lifebars now scale more with large HP units
  • HUD: Unit hitboxes now scale with model size
  • HUD: Sacrifice now shows the amount of gold you’ll receive (similar to Sell, Pawn Shop, etc.)
  • HUD: You can now pause/unpause the game with F9 (rebindable in Options). Pausing is now also rate-limited to 1 pause/unpause per second to help prevent cases of two players accidentally pausing/unpausing at the same time
  • HUD: Turned off white chat bubble for various emotes
  • Loading Screen: Game should now load faster for the first run (resources are slowly pre-loaded while alt+tabbed or not moving your mouse)
  • Masteries: Clicking a unit in your Mastery profile page now shows a popup that you can flex (Screenshot)
  • New Player Experience: Reordered Reach 20 Workers to come earlier (affects new players from now on only)
  • New Player Experience: Greed is no longer automatically unlocked for all accounts, to encourage new players to learn the game with Lock-In
  • Sandbox: All fighters now always sell for 100%
  • Sandbox: -save/-load now supports Champion builds
  • Sandbox: -load now immediately loads a build from the clipboard (no more popup)
  • Sandbox: -lockwave command now freezes workers, restores gold/mythium, and automatically uses -clear if you leak
  • Sandbox: You can now type all debug commands without a "-" in front, i.e. simply typing "greedisgood" or "start" or "wave 5" or "load" etc.
  • Sandbox: New command: “-reload” which quickly uses -load with the most recently loaded build
  • Weekly Challenge: Now supports Champion builds
  • VIPs: Removed VIP display in Chat, Discord, and in-game. The “VIP” distinction was something leftover from release and has been retired indefinitely

Fixes
  • Campaign: Fixed a bug where Campaign opponents were mistakenly playing their “uh oh” sound every wave
  • Gameplay: Fixed a bug where Eco Detection was wrongly kicking in when almost, but not full leaking Wave 1 (e.g. solo Casket vs. Snail or solo Elite Archer vs. Snail)
  • Graphics: Fixed a bug where Eternal Wanderer/Samurai Soul weren’t properly tinted after reviving
  • HUD: Fixed a bug where the Estimated Mythium tooltip would incorrectly show an extra mythium (it was rounding to Ceiling instead of Floor)
  • HUD: Fixed a bug where Champion didn’t properly show up on the Enemy Tab scoreboard, or showed up twice
  • HUD: Fixed a bug where you would be unable to place new towers after shift+building, then selling a shift-built tower, then trying to build one in the same spot
  • HUD: Fixed a HUD bug where mercenaries sometimes didn't display as grayed out when out of stock
  • Menus: Fixed a long-time bug where finding a match while purchasing a card from the card trader would cause the HUD to lock up in-game after entering a menu (such as viewing someone’s profile)
  • Menus: Fixed a bug where slower computers would fail to load the Codex properly
  • New Player Experience: Fixed a bug where the Incoming tutorial (third mission) bot didn’t build anything
  • Sandbox: Fixed a bug where Legion Spells in -save/-load were causing the game to break
  • Singleplayer & Co-op: Fixed a singleplayer/co-op bug where shutdown bounties were sometimes not cleared after using a Restart
  • Fixed a spectator bug where emote names would mistakenly show up as _Closed
  • Singleplayer & Co-op: Fixed a bug where shutdown bounties were sometimes not cleared after using a Restart
  • Stability: Fixed a bug where Dual Build players being unable to build after reconnecting
  • Stability: Fixed a bug where the game would fail to fully load the HUD after loading into game
  • Text Commands: Fixed some cases of the "-lifetime" command not working as expected
  • UI: Fixed some cases where |n mistakenly showed up in texts instead of being rendered as a new line

Legion TD 2's translations continue to be greatly improved, thanks to major contributions from community members! If you'd like to contribute to improving the game's texts further, visit the following link:

HUGE thank you to everyone who has helped up to this point!

Closing Remarks

This patch marks one of the rare times where the game's meta will be shaken up, but we feel it will be worth it to make a more compelling meta. As with all changes, these are heavily driven by thousands of games of data as well as player feedback through Discord, Reddit, and Steam. We are excited as well to give Classic Modes a major overhaul, along with refreshing some of the less popular Masterminds. Not to mention the new mercenary!

We've also taken the time to deliver a variety of QoL changes that have been highly requested, such as finally being able to undo Nekomata stacks.

If you want a guaranteed answer from the devs, the monthly AMAs on /r/LegionTD2 are your best bet.

Sincerely,
The Legion TD 2 Team

This Month

New this month:
Starting with January Nova Cup 2024 following new rules will apply:
  • Division 2 will now also be drafted from the top 8 teams in addition to Division 1. The rest of the divisions (3-5) will continue to be seeded as before.
  • Conquest (Division 1 & 2 rule) will now apply to the whole team instead of just the individual player. For example, if you win a game where your ally picked Greed and you picked Yolo, both of you will not be able to pick Greed or Yolo next game. The restriction only applies to the winning players. If you lose with Yolo, you can still pick Yolo next game.

The upcoming January Nova Cup takes place January 27 - 28.

$875 in prizes and sign-up is free - first come first served!
There are up to five skill divisions, so no matter what your rating is, you have a chance to win.
Participation prize: Every participant who plays all of their matches will receive a FREE random card. If you haven't played a tournament yet, this is a great time to join.

Requirements
- Everyone that is level 3 or higher can join for free! First come, first served. So even if you recently joined the game, feel free to participate!

Twitch Drops

When you watch Nova Cups on the official channel, aside from enjoying shoutcasted top-tier Legion gameplay, you'll also receive in-game rewards based on how long you watch!

Watch the official Legion TD 2 Twitch stream during a Nova Cup to earn the following rewards:
- Watch for 60 minutes: 2,000 essence
- Watch for an additional 90 minutes: 4,000 additional essence

Team Sign-up Instructions
  • Sign-ups are open from NOW until January 27 9am PST / 6pm CET.

Schedule

Saturday, January 27
  • Check-in window: 8:45 - 9:15am PDT / 5:45 - 6:15pm CET
  • Games: 10am - 1:30pm PST / 7 - 10:30pm CET
    • Round of 16 (Best of 3)
    • Quarter-finals (Best of 3)
Sunday, January 28

Kingsguard rework, plus a lot of other fixes. Also listing previous hotfix changelogs below for reference. Still keeping an eye on Redraw, Leak2Win, and a few other things, but likely bigger changes to come in v11.01 rather than a hotfix.

v11.00.5

Balance: Kingsguard reworked!
- Old: Start the game with 2 of each king upgrade
- New: Your king gains +20% attack speed
- Kingsguard now displays alongside the Cave icons and the "Received ___" messages on Wave 1 to make it more clear when your opponent is playing Kingsguard
This allows your king to be even stronger than a normally max-upgraded king!

Balance: Megamind
- Lock-In & Double Lock-In are even further less likely to be rolled

Fixes
- Fixed an edge case that caused some client instability

----- Earlier patches below (these were deployed last week/over the weekend) -----

v11.00.4

Fixes
- Fixed a Megamind bug where under rare circumstances, a player could mistakenly pick Megamind twice
- Fixed a UI bug where masterminds weren’t all unlocked in Sandbox
- Fixed a UI bug where Team Chat in some circumstances didn't autoscroll to the bottom
- Fixed a rare interaction between Sorcerer & Champion that didn't allow you to pick Champion on a new unit after picking your Sorcerer unit

Improvements
- Champion icon now shows on the Tab scoreboard
- Champion & Hero/Villain/etc. icons now show in the Postgame scoreboard Waves tab

Kingsguard likely to receive a rework/tweak this week. Keeping an eye on Redraw and may tweak as well.

v11.00.3

Major Fixes
- Improved matchmaking formula to better balance between current rating & last season's peak

Fixes
- Fixed a bug where picking Megamind would sometimes result in being stuck in the mastermind selection screen
- Fixed a reconnect bug when reconnecting in Classic before having picked your legion would cause you to be stuck in the loading screen
- Fixed a UI bug where Megamind --> Lock-In was mistakenly displaying the Double Lock-In icon
- Fixed a UI bug where Megamind --> Lock-In/Double Lock-In mistakenly booted you from Team Chat while selecting your lock-ins
- Spectator delay increased by 30 seconds to fix bugged cases where a spectator connects before the game is ready for it
- Fixed API legion field for megamind to return the rolled mastermind instead of megamind
- Fixed a gameplay bug with Eco Detection where it was falsely flagging an eco player who had built, but still leaked 100% on Wave 1 (e.g. Solo Casket vs. Snail send)
- Fixed a system bug where Pity Points past a certain number weren't taking effect as intended
- Fixed a UI bug where pinging an enemy fighter on the Tab scoreboard was displaying in the wrong color

Improvements
- UI Tweak: 4v4 workers no longer display the 4v4-specific reduced mythium gather rate, which has the effect of having cleaner worker numbers on Waves 1-10 (pre-v11.00)
- Picking Megamind now shows the rolled mastermind in team chat: https://i.imgur.com/YhivieK.png
- Picking Kingsguard now is taken into account for MVP Score and Playstyle graph
- Player Profiles now no longer show pre-release rating badges (but they are still visible in the Trophies tab) to reduce clutter on older accounts
- Megamind popup now automatically closes (removed OK button). We received feedback of players accidentally double-clicking and locking something in.

Balance: Leak 2 Win
- King Health: +25% --> +100%
- Leaking: +10% missing health --> +20% missing health
- Clearing: -5% current health --> -10% current health

The goals of these changes are to make leaking rewarding and make king health a valuable resource - without the king being weaker. We are continuing to gather feedback to try to find the sweet spot for this mode. Thanks everyone who has given early feedback so far!

v11.00.2

Balance
- Redraw: Rerolls: 4 --> 5. We will collect more feedback after Ranked is enabled tomorrow and continue to evaluate if further tweaks or reworks are warranted.
- Leak 2 Win: King health increased by 25%

Fixes
- Fixed a reconnect bug where in some cases while Dual Building in Classic, a player couldn't build towers after disconnecting/reconnecting
- Fixed a Campaign bug where Mama Mayra on Hard didn't get bonus workers after using a Restart
- Fixed a Hybrid bug where Pirate Skeleton didn't start with Secret Stash until the next wave
- Fixed a UI bug where whispers weren't showing up in-game
- Fixed a UI bug where queueing King Upgrades wouldn't process at the last possible moment in some cases
- Fixed a UI bug where the HUD didn't display the correct estimated gold amount when taking into account Dwarf Banker & Big Wig
- Fixed a UI bug where the Rolls message in chat displayed an extra time in 1v1 mode
- Fixed a UI bug where the HUD mistakenly displayed red Overwork worker numbers for allies instead of just the current/affected players
- Fixed a UI bug where the AutoAttack Games logo animation didn't play when starting up the game

Improvements
- Improved some spectator UI (for Megamind)
- Added a chat message for Lock-In/Double Lock-In to show what rolls you picked

Localization
- Translations updated
- Added spreadsheet comments for Mastermind translation fields

v11.00.1

Fixes
- Fixed an issue where players were getting stuck in loading screen
- Fixed some rare cases of game crashing
- Fixed pinging workers in Classic not showing the correct value
- Fixed 1v1 Event Rewards tooltip
- Fixed Dwarven Banker mana in Classic (was incorrectly 4, should be 5)
- Fixed Match History not showing Megamind
- Fixed a UI issue where Classic worker counts were mistakenly showing as red numbers

...
