Game Mode Voting
Introducing all-new ways to play Classic! At the beginning of each match, players vote on two options:
Income & Chill
If you save mythium, you miss out on Gold Rush gold that wave. Scale up for late game!
Income & Chill is only enabled if there are more yes-votes than no-votes. A tied vote will not enable the mode. If this mode is enabled, Auto Send is turned on for all players at the start of the game. You can still turn it off at any time.
Special Mode
Each match, one random special mode is available for voting. Each week, one mode is “hot” and has an 80% chance to be available each match, while the remaining 20% chance is divided evenly among remaining modes. Below is the current pool of modes:
Double Lock-In: Lock-in 2 fighters for some juicy combos!
Super Fiesta: When you leak any amount, you AND your teammates get free gold!
Ordered Chaos: Everyone plays Chaos, with a catch: all players get the same rolls!
Blitz: After Wave 1, build phase is sped up by 2.5x. Don't think, just build!
...and more to come!
The special mode is only enabled if there are more yes-votes than no-votes. A tied vote will not enable the mode.
The goals of this feature are to 1) cater towards different player preferences, 2) introduce freshness to Classic, and 3) make Classic feel a little less tryhard.
Game Balance
4v4
Dual Building - Fixed a bug where last patch’s nerf didn’t go through. Area-of-effect damage reduction: 40% → 45%
Legion Spells
Dark Ritual - Gold gain: 135 → 140
Low win rate and pick rate.
Note that for Legion spells, we apply prior propensity-to-win adjustments to win rates to account for currently-winning/losing players being more likely to pick certain spells. That means a low unadjusted win rate for Dark Ritual is not synonymous with weak. However, even with proper adjustments, Dark Ritual is underperforming.
Divine Blessing - Health: 2350 → 2250
Very high win rate and high pick rate.
Fighters
Kingpin - Damage: 230 → 223
High win rate and pick rate. Even at low stacks of Elite Fisherman, Kingpin is quite cost efficient.
High win rate and pick rate. One of the strongest openings and early/mid game off-tanks.
Cursed Casket - Health: 1540 → 1520
Cage of Pain - Health: 2710 → 2680
Iron Maiden - Health: 3870 → 3820
High win rate and pick rate. Currently the premier arcane unit.
Desert Pilgrim - Chain Heal: 120 → 130
Lost Chieftain - Damage: 203 → 207
Low win rate and pick rate. Currently overshadowed by Sea Dragon and Lifebinder.
Nightmare - Attack speed: 1.76 → 1.79
Doppelganger - Attack speed: 1.92 → 1.94
Low win rate and pick rate.
Lord of Death / Hades - Intellect: Mana restore: 12% → 10%
High win rate and pick rate. Too strong when they get multiple kills.
Shadow Dancer - Health 1670 → 1690
Dread Knight - Health 3670 → 3710
Low win rate and pick rate. Currently strong when you're fed/already winning, but generally too weak.
Great Boar / Red Eyes - Charge damage increased by 8%
Low win rate and pick rate. We're still traumatized by the days when Boar spam dominated the meta, so we're being careful.
Mercenaries
Witch - Froggos: Damage type: Pierce → Magic
Adding another magic damage source and differentiating Witch further from Centaur and Needler.
Centaur - Attack speed: 2.08 → 1.85 - Cleave: 20% damage to up to 5 nearby enemies → 40% damage to up to 3 nearby enemies
Centaur is now a stronger counter to a medium number of units, notably melee units. This gives it a more defined identity and differentiates it further from Witch and Needler.
Needler - Rapid Fire: Attack speed: +50% → +40% - Fixed a bug where it was wrongly targeted by Tempest and Leviathan’s ground-only abilities
Reduced area-of-effect damage makes Poison-Tipped Pole less punishing to melee builds, while continuing to keep cheap unit spam in check.
On Watch
We're evaluating a Chloropixie + Fiesta nerf for next patch. The change has some technical complexity, so we weren't able to get to it this patch.
Fixes & Improvements
Codex: Units Tab Overhaul
The Units tab of the Codex has been overhauled! Now features a greatly improved layout & presentation as well as sorting by cost, DPS, DPS per gold, etc.
In-Game Polls
Thanks to some tech improvements, we are now able to survey player opinions on various topics, directly in-game, via the Inbox system. Gathering feedback directly from players will help us continue to make the best game for everyone! Keep an eye out for the first poll in the next few weeks.
Postgame Overview
Replaced “Mythium Received” with “Pressure Applied,” which is a score that represents how much pressure you applied to your opponent by saving mythium. Pressure Applied has always been taken into account for MVP Score behind-the-scenes, but it is now more visible.
Performance Score: Now uses a new, more accurate and intuitive formula.
The Power Score bar size is now relative to all players’ power scores, rather than your team’s. This is a more accurate representation of how powerful you were at the end of the game.
Removed “Net Worth” column
Miscellaneous
Battle Phase: The Battle Phase now runs 8% faster in 2v2; this will speed up games without affecting balance
Recommended rolls now always include your locked-in fighters if you play Lock-In or Double Lock-In
HUD: Mercenary tooltips now show role icons (Tank, DPS, etc)
Profile: Game Stats: Performance score reworked [todo: Jules add context]
Legion Select: Fixed a bug where “Select a different legion for this mission” was mistakenly shown
Chat: Global Chat now displays line breaks from messages that are sent from Discord
Versus Popup: Fixed a bug where the Versus Popup would block the HUD from being interacted with
Discord: New PTR deployments will be announced in the #public-test-realm channel. You can assign yourself the PTR role in the #contributor-roles channel to receive notifications
Postgame: Fixed a bug where the New Teammate bonus was accidentally being rewared when playing with non-new players
Congratulations to everyone who ordered the limited edition Safety Mole Plushies. They shipped last month, and it's been a blast seeing photos of Safety Moles in everyone's homes. If you missed out, unfortunately, they're gone forever.
Closing Remarks
With this new patch, we are excited to give some much-needed love to Classic players. These changes hope to address some concerns brought up through reddit, Discord, & other channels. As always, we'll continue to iterate until we get it right, so be ready for hotfixes. We've also packed in a bunch of quality of life improvements, most notably an overhaul to the Codex Units page, as players have frequently requested having an easier way to look up unit information.
Thank you again for playing Legion TD 2! We hope you continue to enjoy the game and hope your new year is off to a great start.
If you've enjoyed the game, but haven't left a review yet, please consider posting a short review for the game! It really helps get the word out there.
If you enjoy these updates, please give it a Thumbs Up, too!
And as always, if you have constructive criticism, let's chat about it. Discord is our main channel of communication, and aside from the development team, there are community helpers who can ensure your feedback is heard, as well as answer pretty much anything you've ever wanted to know about the game. We know there's still much to improve, so let's work together.

This Month
The upcoming February Nova Cup takes place February 18-19.
$750 in cash prizes and sign-up is free - first come first served! There are four skill divisions, so no matter what your rating is, you have a chance to win. Participation prize: Every participant who plays all of their matches will receive a FREE random card. If you haven't played a tournament yet, this is a great time to join.
Twitch Drops
When you watch Nova Cups on the official channel, aside from enjoying shoutcasted top-tier Legion gameplay, you'll also receive in-game rewards based on how long you watch!
Watch the official Legion TD 2 Twitch stream during a Nova Cup to earn the following rewards: - Watch for 60 minutes: 2,000 essence - Watch for an additional 90 minutes: 4,000 additional essence - Watch for an additional 120 minutes: Random card
In other words, if you watch the Nova Cup both days, you'll earn 6,000 total essence and a random card!
IMPORTANT: You'll need to link your Twitch account to your Legion TD 2 account in order to earn the rewards. Link Your Twitch Account
Note:Last month's (January) stream was shorter than expected, which resulted in Twitch Drops being harder than intended to farm. The new Division 1 format changes (detailed below) will increase the average length of the tournament on the first day by ~45 minutes on average, which should make the full Twitch Drops rewards more readily earnable. If further changes are needed, we will simply ask Kingdanzz and Widderson to take it easier on their opponents.
Team Sign-up Instructions
(new instructions for 2023!)
Sign-ups are open from NOW until February 18 at 9am PST / 6pm CET.
To sign up, find a teammate and form a party. After you're both in the party, have one player type "/signup [team name]" (e.g. /signup Snail Kings) in chat. You should see a confirmation message that your sign-up went through. For those who participated in previous Nova Cups, you no longer need to do /join to signup.
The first 16 teams to sign up in each division can participate. Other teams are waitlisted. There are usually no-shows, so waitlisted teams are encouraged to be present in the Discord and ready to play. {LINK REMOVED}View the team list to see your sign-up position and division.
If there are more than 32 teams checked in, there will be an additional best-of-1 qualifying round to allow more teams to participate. It is a best-of-1, rather than a best-of-3, to keep the event from running overly long.
Like last month, you may now sign up as a solo player!
NEW THIS MONTH: You may sign-up as a solo with a suggested team name using the "/signup [team name]" command. Solo teams will be added to the Public Teams list, then be formed into teams on the day of the tournament. Solo teams will be randomly assigned a team name from either of its members.
If there is a waitlist, team sign-ups will always take priority over solo sign-ups
If you sign up as a solo, but then you find a teammate, you can re-sign up as a team any time before check-ins start. Just use the /signup command again with the new teammate. The tournament organizer will void your old solo signup after they process your new team signup.
After check-ins are over, all checked-in solo players will be randomly formed into teams by the tournament organizer. You cannot request a specific teammate at this point; if you want to play with a specific person, you should have signed up as a team instead.
It is still strongly recommended to sign-up as a team to guarantee your spot in the tournament and to give you time to practice with your teammate beforehand.
Any team that fails to check in will be disqualified. The next team on the waitlist that checked in will earn a spot.
Game Format
The custom game room creator should enable Tournament Mode in the room. This will ensure the following settings:
2v2
Mastermind only
Hybrid disabled
Division 1 Only - NEW THIS MONTH: No longer first come first served signups. Now, the top 8 teams by seed rating will play in Division 1. Day 1 will be 2 groups of 4 playing a Swiss format with 2 wins = advance and 2 losses = out. All games are bo3. - Conquest rules apply. (Once you win with a Mastermind playstyle, you can't use that playstyle again for that series)
Final Remarks
For a full list of rules, prizes, and other details, visit the following link: Nova Cup Rules & FAQ
See you on February 18th! The Nova Cup will be casted and streamed at https://twitch.tv/ltd2. Check the Tournament Discord on the event day for links to the other casts.
King • Health increased by 15% on all waves • Tenacity: 1.6% → 1.3%
Tenacity successfully reduced one-shotting and smoothed out the relationship between leak % and king damage taken. However, it had some unintended effects on sending patterns in the mid-to-late game. Based on community feedback, we’re scaling back tenacity (conservatively to avoid being over-reactive). We’ll continue to monitor and make improvements next patch, as needed.
Dark Mage • Mind Warp logic is now smarter about buffing some units, notably Shadow Dancer and Dread Knight
Needler • Attack speed: 1.98 → 1.9
Needler is likely still too strong, and its power makes it difficult to independently evaluate the king, so we’re adding another nerf.
News & Updates - Check out Lisk's Developer AMA and Jules' Gameplay & Balance AMA from January! These AMAs are "ask me anything" events where you can ask developers questions about the game. We've been doing these every major patch, so keep an eye out next week for the next one!
New Shop Content

New Feature: Allied Build Cursor Visualization
When your ally is placing a fighter, it is now visible to allies and spectators.
Game Balance
4v4
Dual Building (4v4) - Haste: Area-of-effect reduction: 40% → 45% (also affects Hades’ Necromancy) - Delay before units begin to generate mana: 8 seconds → 9
Dual building is too strong when played optimally.
King
King - Health increased by +14% → -1% from waves 1 → 21 - Damage and area-of-effect damage increased by 11% → -4% from waves 1 → 21
The king is now moderately stronger early game to allow more aggressive worker pushing. Slight nerf late game to reduce king power creep.
Legion Spells
Hero - Damage and damage reduction: 5.25% → 5%
Very high pick rate, crowding out other options.
Protector - Regeneration: 0.9% → 0.8%
Very high pick rate, crowding out other options.
Fighters
Proton - Attack speed: 1.15 → 1.17
Atom - Attack speed: 1.15 → 1.17 - Mana synergy with mana gain effects increased by 40%
Low win rate and pick rate. Make Atom a Magician! MAAM!
Pack Rat - Treasure Hunt: Mythium gained: 12 → 11
High win rate. Treasure Hunt is highly efficient in the early game (particularly wave 1) and even strong late game due to sending patterns being more predictable.
High win rate. Nerfing summoners, rather than doggos, to reward players for getting off multiple doggos. Hitting Gateguard slightly more than Harbinger.
Leviathan - Health: 1830 → 1770 - Damage: 72 → 70
High win rate. Reducing stats to require more fighter value in the aura before it's efficient to upgrade to Leviathan.
Very high pick rate. Ocean Templar offers too much power, particularly on magic waves.
Nightmare - Health: 1140 → 1180
Low pick rate.
Shadow Dancer - Health: 1600 → 1670 - Shadowbreeder: 16.6% chance to spawn a clone → spawns a clone every 6 attacks - Clones now spawn with 25/25% health instead of 25/100% health
Dread Knight - Health: 3520 → 3670 - Hatebreeder: 20% chance to spawn a clone → spawns a clone every 5 attacks - Clones now spawn with 25/25% health instead of 25/100% health
Buffed on their own, nerfed with lifesteal and healing effects. Removed rng.
Lord of Death - Intellect: Mana restore on kill for both summoner and dragon: 15% → 12% - Mana regeneration increased by 4%
Hades - Intellect: Mana restore on kill for both summoner and dragon: 15% → 12%
High win rate. The rework is fun, but Hades is too strong now.
The holiday season has come and gone, and the normal forest & desert maps have returned! We'll have to say goodbye to the Christmas tree and candy-cane filled winter wonderland.... until next holiday season!
Improvements & Fixes
Classic 4v4 Party Elo Adjustments
Increased party Elo adjustments in classic to better reflect the communication and strategic advantages duos, 3-stacks, and 4-stacks have
Fixed a bug where party Elo adjustments were sometimes not applied in classic
It's no longer a disadvantage to play solo or to play against bigger parties in classic. Ranked 2v2's duo Elo adjustment is unchanged.
Dual Building Double Opt-In
Non-partied players now must both ping the mid-build area in order for either player to begin building there
Partied players do not have to ping the mid-build area, and no longer see the red warning text
Custom games treat all players as partied (no warnings, automatically allows dual building)
Improvements
Client UI: You can now press ESC during the Card Trader card animation to skip it
Game HUD: Tab Scoreboard colors tweaked to be easier to tell if you’re viewing your own lane vs. enemy’s lane at a glance
Game HUD: If you sell a unit while Ready for wave 1, you will now automatically un-ready yourself
Game HUD: Slightly improved cursor graphic for mouse drag
Game HUD: Now, you can right click Mastermind Playstyles and Lock-In choices to signal to your ally what you intend to choose
Game Options: New Interface option: “Enable Legion Spell Hotkeys” (scroll all the way to the bottom). Default OFF. This will prevent Legion Spell abilities from being casted via hotkeys. This should mean fewer accidentally Sacrificed Nekomatas. Set to ON to re-enable the hotkeys as before.
Sandbox: Sakura: Fixed a bug where Superbloom stacks weren’t properly loading via -load. Also added -stacks X support for setting Sakura stacks by hand.
Reconnecting: Added a 5 second countdown to give the reconnecting player a little time to get their bearings before the game unpauses
Fixes
Client UI: Fixed a display-only bug where some extra grayed-out fighters were mistakenly displayed in the Masteries profile tab
Client UI: Fixed a display-only bug where ties (match canceled) appeared to award Mastery Points
Client UI: Fixed some rare cases where the client would repeatedly fail to connect log-in
Client UI: Fixed a bug in the postgame Builds tab where underbuilt value was wrongly gray when it should have been yellow
Client UI: Fixed a bug where full-screen News popup was accidentally closeable with ESC, which led to a blank screen.
Game HUD: Fixed a bug where Giant Snail name was incorrect in the Mercenary Damage tracker
Game HUD: Fixed a bug where Lost Chieftain’s green buff indicator was incorrect
Kingpin: Fixed an interaction with Guardian Angel that allowed the revived copy to bypass the max health limit of the spell
Card Trader: Fixed a bug where some cards would appear in the rotation more frequently than others. More QoL improvements to come likely in v10.02.
Shadow Dancer & Dread Knight: Fixed a bug where Sorcerer was mistakenly allowed to be cast on them, resulting in no effect
New Player Experience
New Player Teammate Bonus: In matchmade games, new players (level 4 and below) in the loading screen now have an [innocent face] badge in the loading screen, and provide +20% Bonus Essence to allies if your team wins the game.
Improved new player Classic matchmaking/rating progression
UI now warns low-level players against playing Classic and recommends to play Ranked instead for fairer matches
Localization & API
Localization: Introducing the brand new Open source Translation Browser Add-on for Chrome and Firefox by Kidev. This tool allows you to instantly preview what your markup text will look like, and it should make translators' jobs much easier.
Localization: In case you missed it: last patch we added a Last Updated column for translation fields. We will keep this updated from now on with any fields that have significantly changed and need a retranslation.
Localization: Updated many translations. Shoutout to ConnorTheCone for excellent work on the Spanish translation.
If you are natively fluent in another language, we'd love to have your help improving Legion TD 2 translations. If you make a significant contribution, you'll receive an exclusive in-game badge.
If you haven't already, be sure to check out the Desert Ridge Campaign! Like the first campaign included in the base game, Desert Ridge is playable with 1-4 players. It consists of 7 unique opponents, each increasing in difficulty. Among others, you'll face off against PennyTV - a British streamer who forces you to play T1-only builds, Bonny Flay - a salty chef who gives "balance advice" to the devs, and receives some "hotfixes" as a result, and Crashton - a high-octane goblin who pushes too many workers, but always seems to get away with it.
With this new patch, we hope to continue to fine-tune the game balance, which typically needs adjustments after a major release such as the new season update. We've also packed in a bunch of fixes and some quality of life improvements that have been requested by the community via Discord, reddit, and other community channels.
Thank you again for playing Legion TD 2! We hope you continue to enjoy the game and hope your new year is off to a great start.
If you've enjoyed the game, but haven't left a review yet, please consider posting a short review for the game! It really helps get the word out there.

Sign-up Instructions
(new instructions for 2023!)
Sign-ups are open from NOW until January 28 at 9am PST / 7pm CET.
You may sign-up as a solo player using the usual /signup command, and you will be added to the public Teams list as usual
If there is a waitlist, team sign-ups will always take priority over solo sign-ups

Another quick hotfix, mainly for LoD/Hades, Needler, and a matchmaking fix for new players.
Lord of Death & Hades (fixed) • Fixed some cases where Lord of Death/Hades would receive more mana than intended from summoned unit kills. Hopefully fixed for real this time (TM).
Needler (nerf) • Attack speed: 2.13 → 2.06
Balance Watchlist*: • Dread Knight, Ocean Templar Currently collecting data and feedback for changes in a future patch.
Other Fixes • Classic: Matchmaking: Fixed a bug where new players were being placed in more unfair matches than intended • Classic: Lag: Fixed some issues of recent server lag
A warm welcome to the 7000 new players that got the game this weekend! Legion TD 2 is the most active it's been in a full year. To the moon!
We're proud to continue growing the game and be a part of this incredible community. We owe it to you, so thank you.
To celebrate, we're running a x2 essence and card drop rate event... starting NOW! and ending in a week.
As always, if you have constructive criticism, let's chat about it. Discord is our main channel of communication, and aside from the development team, there are community helpers who can ensure your feedback is heard, as well as answer pretty much anything you've ever wanted to know about the game. We know there's still much to improve, so let's work together.
Another routine hotfix patch for v10.00 related changes, plus a couple fixes beyond that.
King (buff) • Tenacity: 1.5% → 1.6% • 1v1 king’s health increased by 10% • 4v4 king’s health increased by 2% • Reverted the recent 4v4-only Chain Lightning buff
Hades (fixed) • Summon Thanatos: Mana cost: 62 → 60 • Fixed a case where Hades was sometimes gaining more mana from Intellect than intended
Needler (nerf) • Attack speed: 2.17 → 2.13
Dread Knight (fix) • Fixed a bug where Dread Knight’s clones were dealing Pierce damage instead of Magic damage
Ladder Points • Elo to LP scaling: quadratic → true exponential (this change will take place at the start of next week’s LP period)
Fixes & Improvements • HUD: Fixed a display bug where mercenaries and king upgrades were displaying a reduced income amount in 2v2 • Client UI: Fixed a display bug where Classic ratings were displaying incorrectly in-game and in postgame • Client UI: Fixed some cases where postgame rewards would accidentally wrap to the next line • Client UI: Fixed some display issues with Worker (eco build) mastery • Client UI: Friends list should now display in-game even if signed out of Steam Friends • Stability: Fixed a rare network situation that would cause game instability • Graphics: Fixed a bug with Desert Pilgrim’s chain heal effects (and possibly others) not rendering properly
Friendly reminder that we’re only 2 days into the ranked season. Please give us time to evaluate feedback and data. We'd rather make confident changes a day late than dubious changes a day early. The game has already been patched 5 times in less than a week, and it will continue to receive quick fixes as needed.
Balance/Fixes • Balance: Needler nerf: Secondary attacks are no longer buffed by bonus damage (i.e. Shaman buff) • Balance: Needler nerf: Damage: 55 --> 54 • Balance: Shadow Dancer buff/tweak: Reduced the chance of being too lucky/unlucky with RNG chances. In addition, proc chance: 15% --> 16.6% and health: 1600 --> 1635. It should now be a more viable opener, though still risky. • Balance: Dread Knight buff/tweak: Reduced the chance of being too lucky/unlucky with RNG chances. In addition, health: 3520 --> 3630. • Balance: Elite Archer & Trinity Archer nerf: Fixed an interaction where they were mistakenly being buffed by both physical & spell damage from Leviathan's buff • Balance: 4v4: King's Lightning Hammer buff: Now bounces 1 extra time (4v4 map only) • Gameplay: Fixed a bug where reconnecting on Wave 1 would mistakenly allow you to repick a Mastermind playstyle • Client UI: Fixed a bug where Classic rating would accidentally be displayed on the sidebar • HUD: Fixed a bug where damage tracker would be incorrectly missing damage for Shadow Dancer/summoner units. Damage tracker should also now more accurately not include overkill damage. Damage taken tracker does include overkill damage, though. Hopefully this makes the damage tracker a little better at displaying your best performing units.
Other Notes • No changes to Ocean Templar yet, but we'll keep a close eye on it if it needs a nerf. v10.00a (this patch) is just a hotfix, so we just wanted to hit the most major offenders first. • As with all major patches, we anticipate doing more balance tweaks and hotfixes over the next few weeks, especially after collecting more data & feedback • We've also received a lot of feedback on other v10.00 related changes and will tweak as needed. • End of Season rating soft-reset & rewards should be completed by now. Open a ticket at http://legiontd2.com/support if your account wasn't reset properly or you're missing rewards.
Final Note Thanks for bearing with us with a bit of a rocky launch to v10.00. We ran into unexpected, significant technical issues with the season reset, as well as having team members on holiday break & paternity leave. Rest assured, we'll make sure the game gets to a healthy spot!
