We've been working hard in the past few months to improve the game offer you some exciting new content! Here is Northgard: Relics, the next major update for our game!
This BETA's primary goal is for us to determine if the Relics change the game in a positive way and work as well as they should.
The Beta will run for 2 weeks (until March 14th). We'd really appreciate it if you'd share your feedback with us on our official Discord (in the open-beta channel): https://discordapp.com/invite/northgard
The creation and usage of tools has been completely changed in this patch.
The forge
The Forge has gained a lot of importance in Northgard. The building requires a Woodcutter’s Lodge to be created and costs 80 Wood and 20 Kröwns. The building can be upgraded with 100 Wood, 50 Kröwns and 5 Stones. You can assign 2 smiths to a non-upgraded Forge and 3 to an upgraded Forge. Add Smiths to craft items quicker. You can build more than one Forge, but you won’t be able to use both buildings to craft the same item.
The tools
In the forge, you now have the possibility of 3 different actions:
Upgrading civilian tools
Upgrading military tools
Forge a Relic
You can queue multiple items in the Forge. When the first item is finished, the Smiths will start forging the next one. If there isn’t any adversity in the Forge’s tile, you can cancel the creation of an item, and you’ll be refunded its original cost.
You’ll have the possibility to improve the Smith’s tools, granting them a 15% increase in Forge speed!
The knowledge of building Relics has just been rediscovered. Every clan can choose between 6 common Relics and each clan has one specific relic. Each clan can only have one relic at a time and only can use the relic it creates.
To build a Relic, go to the Relic tab in the Forge menu and select the type of relic you want to build. Once it’s built, it will appear in the list of available buildings. Forging a Relic costs 10 Iron, 50 Wood and 100 Kröwns.

Once again, the Beta will run for 2 weeks (until March 14th). We'd really appreciate it if you'd share your feedback with us on our discord channel: https://discordapp.com/invite/northgard
Today sees the citizens of Northgard begin their Winter Festival. This brings with it plenty of holiday cheer, a brand new map and a new event.
New Map - Permafrost Brave the elements and get into the Winter Festival spirit with this all new snow covered map.
New Event - Frozen Sea The Frozen Sea event will cause the Sea of Northgard completely freeze over. A thick layer of ice completely blocks the harbour, making it impossible to navigate, obtain resources, organise raiding parties or buy Thralls.
We’d also like to wish every one of you a happy holidays! We are truly thankful for your continued support and will continue to improve the game even more in the coming year .
The most alien of all clans, the Dragons follow ancient customs and embrace sinister traditions. They use sacrifice and slavery to further their goals, often earning the other clan's distrust.
Starting Bonuses
Your civilians can go into neutral territory.
No Happiness or Production penalty for being wounded.
You start with a Sacrificial Pyre. You can build a Dragonkin Altar instead of other military buildings.
You start with 2 Thrall and 3 regular Villagers. You can buy Thralls from your Longship Dock
Description
Slavery is an important part of the clan’s economy. Like the regular civilians, Thralls can travel in neutral territory and fight.
Thralls do not count towards your population and do not require housing. Their maximum number () is based on your current population number: 33% of current population. They consume only 33% of what a Villager usually consume and they gather 50% less resources than a civilian.
How to get new Thralls
There are 2 different ways of getting new thrall:
You can buy them from your longship dock. the price of each thrall will increase after each purchase (+40 ) , and this price will slowly decrease over time (-2 /month).
After getting the Capture Lore, you’ll be able to enslave enemy civilians. You’ll need to get them to 33% HP to have a chance (10% chance per hit) to enslave them. This also works for neutral factions. Please note that each enslaved Kobold will take 1 slot in your Thrall population , each Myrkalf will take 3 slots, and each Jotunn will take 5 slots.
Thrall are a powerful economic and military asset but beware of their number! If by any chance your regular population falls under your Thrall population (if <), they will rise against you!
The Clan of the Dragon starts each game with a pre-built exclusive building: the Sacrificial Pyre. Through this building, you’ll be able to send every unit you have (except warchief, Jötnar and Bláinn, spectral warriors) to be sacrificed to honour the gods and gain their favours.
Sacrificing a unit will earn you some Dragon Essence that can be used to unlock various bonuses:
Sacrificing a regular (non Thrall) unit gives 2 Dragon Essence Units ()
Sacrificing a Thrall gives 3 Dragon Essence Units ()
Each Fame step will improve the available bonuses and will unlock additional parts of your Dragon Essence gauge.
The different bonuses that can be unlocked are:
Nanna’s Influence: +2 in (Thane: +3 / Jarl: +4)
Andhrimnir’s Influence: +2 in production (Thane: +4 / Jarl: +8)
Niorun’s Influence: +2 in Production (Thane: +4 / Jarl: +8)
Njörd’s Influence: +2 in Production (Thane: +4 / Jarl: +8)
Mimir’s Influence: +2 in Production (Thane: +4 / Jarl: +8)
Hönir Influence: Your slightly increases over time
Idunn’s Influence: Will heal your Dragonkin, wherever they are (if not in combat)
Magni’s Influence: +10% for your Warband and non-thrall units (Thane: +15% / Jarl: +20%)
The Clan of the Dragon does not have access to the regular Military Building. The only military camp you’ll be able to build is the Dragonkin Altar. Each Altar increases your warband size by 1 (2 if upgraded).
Giving a Villager his Dragonkin form is a non-reversible process and will consume 50 Krowns (+10 per new Dragonkin) and 1 Dragon Essence Unit .
Dragonkins are ferocious military units, more powerful than warriors.
Thanks to the Frenzy Lore, they can get a +50% bonus when fighting alone in a tile.
The Clan of the Dragon has 5 new Lore:
Hard Labor: Your Thralls can be conscripted to production buildings to increase their output (You can assign a maximum of 1 Thrall)
Blood, Sweat and Tears: You can assign 2 extra Thralls to production buildings. (You can assign a maximum of 3 Thralls)
Capture: Gives a chance to enslave wounded enemy civilians or neutral faction units. Enslaved Myrkalfar count as 3 Thralls, Jötnar count as 5 Thralls.
Slave Trade: Thralls are cheaper by 50% and minimum price is also reduced by 50%
Draconic Frenzy: +50% for a Dragonkin with no other ally unit in their zone.
Clan of the Wolf: The berserker now costs 200 and 5 . His defense has been raised to 10.
Clan of the Bear:
The Clan now starts the game with Kaija .
Fame 500: Kaija can now go into enemy territory
Clan of the Goat: 1 sheep has been added in nearby territories
Warcry: the time effect has been decreased from 4s to 3s. The CoolDown time has been increased from 1 month to 3 months. Only 1 Warcry can be shouted each month per tile and per team.
The Myrkalfar’s life has been decreased from 60 to 50
The Kobold spawn rate has been decreased, and they won’t start expanding on the players' territory before the middle of the year 802
We really hope you have as much fun with the Dragon as we did creating them! We still have a lot of awesome ideas for the future and cant wait to share them all with you.
Thank you for your continued feedback and support!
Here's the transcript of what was said during the last AMA, hosted on Northgard TV by the very dedicated and talented Weihn8smann!
RAGNAROK
Question: Special victory conditions in Ragnarok Maps? Shiro Games: Something that will be coming in the future. More info at a later date.
Question: Why are there 2 special objective tiles on the Volcano? Shiro Games: This is a bug and we are working on fixing it.
Question: Why did we decide to use Ragnarok as the update theme since Ragnarok is meant to be the ‘final event’? Shiro Games: During the development process Ragnarok always seemed like the theme we could really bring to life. It is also one of the better known events in Norse mythology.
GENERAL
Question: Are there plans to make military more appealing for the more Neutral factions like Goat and Boar? Shiro Games: We don’t want every clan to be focused around military. We like to have some clans that are better at other things. We have updates coming that will improve how these clans play.

Question: Will there be a way point from town hall so newly generated villagers would go where we want? Shiro Games: This is something we are looking into.
Question: How are bonuses stacked? Is it multiplicative or additive? Shiro Games: This depends on the bonus. Military bonuses are additive and generally the gathering bonuses are multiplicative.
Question: How are the numbers rounded in the game? Shiro Games: Numbers will be either rounded up or down depending on the decimal. The rounding only affects the displayed number. The number after the decimal is the true value.

We’ve fixed a few bugs and made a small balance change, please update your game to get the latest patch ;-)
Clan of the Snake Balance
Under Pressure lore change.
With Under Pressure: Skirmishers will have their attack power decreased depending on the distance they are from allied territory: 1 Tile: -0% 2 Tiles: -5% 3 Tiles: -10% 4 Tiles and more: -20%
Bug Fixes
The Kobold campfire will no longer prevent you from being able to build improvements on that land.
The lobby screen now shows if the game you are joining is a Ragnarok or Base Northgard map.
We're glad to finally present you our new major update: Northgard Ragnarok! Ragnarok is the biggest content update since the release of Northgard, and we truly hope you’ll enjoy what we’ve introduced :-)
The map you’ll be playing on when choosing Ragnarok is completely devastated. Your path towards your opponents may be guarded by dangerous creatures! The center of the map is occupied by a new special tile: the Volcano. We also added a new music for this map!
The earth has been ravaged, you won’t find any fertile spots to build your usual farms. Fish and deer will be the only available food source!
The Volcano
The Volcano is one of new tiles introduced in Northgard: Ragnarok. It is a special tile that cannot be tamed or colonized. During the game, the Volcano will erupt hurling molten rocks across the map. Some of them will land in your territory where you’ll then have the chance to mine them. If you manage to completely mine these rocks within 4 months, you’ll be fine. If you fail, Rock Golems will spawn from them and attack the clan members occupying the tile.
The number of Molten Rocks falling onto your territory will vary depending on the number of tiles you have colonized. If you didn’t manage to finish mining the rock before the deadline, the Golem will spawn missing a few HP. Golems have Damage on Time attacks, that will burn their aggressors for a few seconds.
The Blood Moon
The Blood Moon is another new random event that we’ve added to the game. It increases the attack of all units outside of their territory by 50%!
The choice is yours: will you take the risk of going out when everything has gone wild?
The Ancient Graveyard
The Ancient Graveyard is another new tile introduced in Ragnarok. You’ll have the possibility to assign two Lore Masters to study the Graveyard, gathering lore. Once you’ve completed the Graveyard study, two Spectral Warriors will join your army!
To the trained eye, it’s obvious that Seidr, an ancient form of sorcery Freyia taught the Æsir, was practiced here.
Spectral warriors have very high defense and are not easily hit by projectiles. They will be very useful to help you clear your surroundings of any enemies. However, because vikings are highly superstitious, your clan’s happiness will be reduced by 10 as long as they are in your territory!
Fallen Sailors
During their long journey toward Northgard, countless Viking ships have sunk into the great depths. But Ragnarok is here, and the Fallen Sailors return to haunt the living.
“Fallen Sailors” is an event that can occur at any time during a game. You’ll need to deal with ghost Warriors attacking your shores. As seen previously, they have very high defense, and as long as they are in your territory, they’ll lower your happiness by 10.
The Kobolds Update
Kobolds now have a much more developed behavior:
Starting year 2, when the number of kobold reaches 7, they can send 4 of them towards an adjacent neutral tile and colonize it
They start with 1 tile and can have up to a maximum of 4 tiles under their control
If there isn’t any neutral tile close to their territory, they may attack a player’s tile
On neutral tiles, they do not fight wildlife but build their village around it!
They cannot colonize active Wolf Dens or Draugar Camps nor the other neutral factions’ tiles
The Myrkalfar
The Myrkalfar are the new neutral faction of Northgard. These dark elves are particularly aggressive and are strongly opposed to your presence on their continent. Every year, they’ll launch attacks against random players. Once they’re in your territory they’ll start stealing your resources, and you’ll be dealing with a -5 in food, wood and krowns.
To counter their attack, you have two seperate choices:
You can attack their camp, getting some of the stolen resources back after killing the last of them.
You can trade precious resources with them (stone or iron) and befriend them so that they’ll be more likely to launch attacks against your enemies.
The Ragnarok update adds a new military system: the Military Paths! Every enemy defeated on Northgard will grant you xp points. When reaching 500 military experience, you’ll get to choose between 3 different military branches: The Tactician, the Guardian or the Conqueror.
Each of the Military Paths feature 3 different unlockable skills. Be careful: once you’ve chosen a path, you won’t be able to change it, so planning will be very important!
The third and last level of each path should be quite hard to reach as it requires a total of 3000 xp (500 for the first one, 1500 for the second).
Here are the details for each of the Military Paths:

A few weeks from now, the Northgard Trials will end! This will mark the beginning of a new Multiplayer Season: Ragnarok!
You still have a few days to grind the ladder and leave your mark on this season!
Please note that your GP will be decreased to let people grind the ladder again at a their own pace. Do not worry, your GP will not be reset to 0: your new GP count will be based on your score at the end of the season.
Northgard Ragnarok is a completely free update, available at the beginning of October!
Today, we finally bring you our first clan update since the release of the Boar Clan! But first, let's go through the changes we made to the game! Please note that you won't need to get the Clan of the Snake DLC to get these changes!
This patch introduces a new melee military unit available for free and for all clans: the Skirmisher!
Skirmishers are very special units that can travel all around Northgard! In neutral tiles, they are invisible to wildlife and their movement isn’t limited by the presence of adversity.. You can choose to attack wildlife whenever you want by right clicking on a Wolf, Draugr, etc...
They can run faster than other units (+20% movespeed) but be careful: the Skirmishers’ armor is made of light leather and they are more vulnerable than the rest of your army!
You can recruit Skirmishers through their Skirmishers Camp. This building is a basic military building, you do not need to have a Training Camp to build one. Skirmishers are the cheapest military unit.
Coming with this patch as a DLC, the Clan of the Snake will add a new way of playing Northgard. Lead by Signy, the Spear Maiden, Svafnir’s followers are among the most roguish vikings on Northgard!
No Honor, no Fame
Unlike other clans, the Snake’s progression isn’t reflected by the Fame they’ve reached. Cunning and deceitful, the Snake has little regard for fame or honour. Members of the clan prefer working in the shadows and using guerilla tactics rather than open warfare. Its pride depends mainly on its warchief, Signy, who is already available at the beginning of each game. During the game, Signy will grow up and gain new abilities:
Age 15: The Cunning (start of the game).
Age 16: Pride of the Clan. Signy is now more powerfull, she gains 20% move speed and the ability to attack at range.
Age 18: Tears of the Earth. Again, Signy’s power is increased, she gains the ability to walk freely among Northgard’s wildlife (like Skirmishers) and she can use her special ability: Scorched Earth.
If she falls on the battlefield, Signy will be available for rehiring in the Skirmishers Camp for 150 Krowns (no Iron needed). In terms of battle statistics, Signy starts with a light advantage in comparison with a basic warrior. She will get stronger and stronger with every passing year.
Her Scorched Earth ability will prove itself to be very useful. Signy charges to the center of a tile (any tile except for TownHalls and Victory Tiles) and prepares herself to scorch everything around her. After 5 seconds, Scorched Earth is launched:
Available every 3 months
Effect lasts 3 months
If the effect is cancelled during Signy’s preparation time, there is a 1 month cooldown
Signy cannot be interrupted by anything other than the player(and her death of course)
Scorched tiles have the following effects:
+50 attack power the Snake’s units & buildings
-50% for any production in this tile
The Snake's Lore tree
As most of the other clans, the Snake can acquire specific knowledge:
Black Market replaces Coinage:
Merchants produce +10% Krowns
Gain 75% more Krowns when trading with enemy clans, degrading diplomatic relations.
You can trade even when at war
Enemy clans get no ressources from Black Market trading
Rapacious Exploitation is the ultimate Lore of the Wealth branch:
Bonus of special tiles (Geysers, Thor’s Wrath) is doubled
Ruins and Shipwreck in your territory grant +2 happiness
Under Pressure replaces Weaponsmith:
+20% attack power for Skirmishers
+2 happiness and +2 food for each enemy pressured by the Snake
An enemy clan is pressured if one of the Snake’s military units is on an tile adjacent to or inside his territory
Guerilla replaces Military Strategy: Military units gain +2% attack power per enemy civilian killed (max 40%)
Stolen Lore is the ultimate Lore of the Ressource branch: Steal a Lore from another clan’s tree:
The arrival of the Clan of the Snake in Northgard forced us make some moficiation on the curent clan balance. Here are the changes!

We trully hope you'll enjoy playing with the Snake! As we mentionned before, this clan and the new features are just the beginning of a lot of new features that we cannot wait to add to the game :)
We'll be back very soon with news about the next update, which will change a LOT of things in the way you fight in Northgard ;)
We thought we'd share a few details about the upcoming Clan of the Snake and more precisely on its exclusive Warchief: Signy, the Spear Maiden!
Coming with this patch as a DLC, the Clan of the Snake will add a new way of playing Northgard. Lead by Signy, the Spear Maiden, Svafnir’s followers are among the most roguish vikings on Northgard!
Signy, the Clan of the Snake's Warchief
Unlike the other clans, the Clan of the Snake’s progression isn’t reflected by the Fame they’ve reached. Cunning and deceitful, the Snake has little regard for fame or honour. Members of the clan prefer working in the shadows and using guerilla tactics rather than open warfare. As a consequence, the Clan of the Snake does not get any Fame from its actions in Northgard.
Its pride depends mainly on its warchief, Signy, who is already available at the beginning of each game. During the game, Signy will grow up and gain new abilities:
Age 15: The Cunning (start of the game).
Age 16: Pride of the Clan. Signy gains move speed and the ability to attack at range.
Age 18: Tears of the Earth. Signy gains the ability to walk freely among Northgard’s wildlife (like Skirmishers) and she can use her special ability: Scorched Earth.
Note that each year, Signy will grow stronger and stronger.
The lore tree of the clan will be centered on its abilities to harrass and pressure other players.
As a reminder, next update will bring into Northgard:
The Clan of the Snake
The Skirmisher, a special melee military unit, available for all clans
Balance changes to the Clans and the Victories
IMPORTANT The Clan of the Snake is a purchasable as a DLC, the rest of the update, including the Skirmisher, is a free update available to all players!
As our main concern is to be sure the community isn't devided, players who do not own the Clan of Svafnir will be able to play with and against players who do!
The Clan will be purchasable for 4.49€. Finally, we have a release date for you: July, the 19th!
We trully hope you'll have a lot of fun playing with this clan! As we already mentionned in previous announcements, we still have A LOT of things to add to the game in terms of new Clans, new game mechanics, foes, neutral factions, etc...
Along with the Clan of the Snake DLC, the next update will also bring major balance changes AND a new military unit: the Skirmisher!
Available for all clans, Skirmishers are a very special melee unit that can travel around Northgard unimpaired! In neutral tiles, they are invisible to wildlife and their movement isn’t limited by the presence of adversity... You can choose to attack wildlife whenever you want by right clicking on a Wolf, Draugr, etc...
They can run faster than other units (+20% movespeed) but be careful: the Skirmishers’ armor is made of light leather and they are more vulnerable than the rest of your army!
You can recruit Skirmishers through their Skirmisher's Camp. This building is a basic military building, you do not need to have a Training Camp to build one. Skirmishers are the cheaper than other military units.
We hope you'll have fun playing with the Skirmishers! We designed this unit to allow players to innovate and create new military tactics!
We'll be back soon with more information about next patch!
