If you’ve been following our recent Steep challenge articles, you will have already gotten to grips with tricks and races with your snowboard or skis thanks to a series of entry-level challenges recommended by our dedicated Steep players in the Yeti Society
This week, we take to the skies!
This article is all about Wingsuit proximity challenges. Unlike the time-sensitive races, these require you to pass through checkpoints while staying as close to the ground and passing as closely by obstacles as possible. Be sure to send us some #SteepPhotoMode images of your proximity runs on social media!
One of our British Yetis, Calplex, has a couple of recommendations. The first is Say Hi! in the Alps.
“Unlike the time challenges, it is all about taking risk to get that gold. If you’re feeling brave and up for the challenge you can throw yourself very close to the glaciers and rocks. If you wanted to take it easy and get used to the wingsuit mechanics you can glide beside the sharp rocks and not have to worry about dodging or getting your risk factor high. You can take your own time with the challenge, when you are ready you can take the challenge on and up your personal best!”
Say Hi! is located at 1738 N – 5360 W in Aiguilles.
But that is not all! Calplex continues:
“If you are looking for the same sort of challenge but in Alaska. I would recommend Fly like a Whale; it’s the exact same sort of challenge which you can take at your own pace.”
You will find that Alaska challenge at the coordinates 1437 S – 1527 W.
Steep wingsuit expert Bonecrusher2D also has an Alaska challenge if you feel up to it. Kahiltna Fly begins at 1468 N – 2749 W, and you shouldn’t let the difficulty rating discourage you:
“The canyons and rocks add a depth of play meaning you can be safe and take the outside, or you can try flying through these small caverns.”
For each of these challenges, you’ll notice the same piece of advice: play it safe during your first attempts, then gradually challenge yourself to get closer and closer to the ground.

Last weekend we had a degradation of our online services linked to Steep, this is why some of you have experienced difficulties in connecting to the game. We are sorry about that.
The issue was caused by the refresh rate of the Steep World Tour leaderboard. A lot of you is taking part in the competition and this created the degradation. To quickly resolve the problem we have applied a delay in the tournament leaderboard refresh rate. Your score is still immediately tracked by our servers when you complete one of your tries. The only difference is that the tournament leaderboard is now updated around every 1h and 30 minutes. In some circumstances it can require more time.
Don’t worry if you don’t immediately see your score in the live page of the tournament. Even if it’s not visible in that page, it’s still tracked and it’ll eventually appear.
We understand it’s an inconvenience, but in this way we can guarantee a better experience to all players, preventing any major degradation related to this issue.
Thanks for your patience, we’ll keep working to identify a better solution.
Race down the slopes and improve your Pro Rider score with these fan-favorite competitive challenges!
A few of our most dedicated Steep community members and experts from the Yeti Society have handpicked a few entry-level races to get you started. Find these challenges by exploring Steep’s open world and discovering new Drop Zones.
Competitive player obZenDF recommends the tactical race Wasabi. “The race Wasabi is great for beginners, and has many different ways to tackle the slope downwards. It's a good training for finding your own lines.” Tactical races allow players to get a feel for the best route from start to finish, focusing on speed and precision as you weave between environmental obstacles. If you prefer to speed through a specific path, there are a variety of checkpoint races in which you follow an exact line as closely as possible. You’ll find the Wasabi race in the Rosa Monte region of the Alps.
Yeti member Kdogg788 suggests races in the Aravis and Tyrol areas for beginner friendly terrain and events. After practicing these races and becoming more confident in their skills, players can move on to more difficult challenges. “Once you get onto the Matterhorn or Mont Maudit, the difficulty amps up quite a bit. Mont Blanc itself is kind of a mixed bag because it's so open so I'd put it in between in terms of difficulty.”
Strap on your racing gear and give these challenges a try! If you would like more advice and tips from the Steep community experts, stop by our official forums or Reddit.

Steep has a number of different sports for you to master. A couple of weeks ago we highlighted some of our most devoted players’ favourite spots for beginner-level skiers and snowboarders to execute some huge jumps. This week, the Yeti Society is back with some recommended locations for honing your wingsuit skills!
Our first Yeti is Bonecrusher2D, who believes the ideal location across Steep’s two mountain ranges is the Matterhorn, a region in the Alps. The entire region’s layout is full of great spots, making it an ideal fit for spectacular wingsuit runs!
Bonecrusher2D had this to say: “Explore the Matterhorn in death defying wing suit runs. If you are looking for a challenge in the wing suit you won't find a better mountain suited to your tastes. See if you can find all 23 needle point rock holes to fly through and prove you have what it takes to fly a wing suit.”
There are certainly areas beyond the Matterhorn where you can train to become a wingsuit master! And we have a specific example in the Alps here from Vekst, a moderator on the Steep sub-reddit:
“A drop zone that I enjoy practicing on is Aiguille Du Gouter. It's a small peak of Mont Blanc that has some small surprises in store for new riders. There's a decent amount of trees and small rocks that you need to look out for while gliding down the slopes, as they can end your run extremely quick if you don't pay attention.
There's a specific spot there that I like to use with the coords of 1889 N - 244 W. If you try to take on this small peak, don't be afraid of getting close to the mountain, getting close is how you get the big points. With my coords, just go down and follow the natural path that the mountain gives, it will help you out a lot with hard challenges where you need to be extremely close to the mountain to win.”
Some fine recommendations from our Yeti Society - we think these suggestions will show off the exhilarating nature of the wingsuit. And if you attempt to master these locations, we’d love to see some video clips of your runs! Share them with us using the hashtag #SteepGame, or send your best #SteepPhotoMode screenshots!

Are you new to Steep or would you like to improve your highest scores? Practice makes perfect!
One of our most experienced players, Mstifye, has personally selected a few challenges that can bring you up to expert level in no time. You can find these challenges by exploring Steep’s open world and discovering new Drop Zones.
Learning the ropes
Mstifye recommends trying the Bargy Snowpark challenge in the Alps for ski / snowboard fans. You’ll find it in the Ponte Percée region.
Coordinates: 4813 S - 345 E
“This is the challenge where I perfected my jumps and understood how the jump system in STEEP worked. I understood how to prepare for jumps and how to execute them.”
Most of the challenges with blue guidelines are a good starting point for practicing your ski and snowboarding skills. During a challenge, hold "_" to crouch and prepare for a jump, then release it near the top of the jump to reach maximum height. The blue guidelines on ramps in challenges like Bargy and Jumps clearly mark the best spot to pop your tricks- a perfect way to practice!
Upping the ante
After you feel comfortable with the guidelines, it’s time to practice what you’ve learned on some more advanced challenges without guidance or restrictions. Glacier Hurdles in Aiguille Verte is a fan-favorite Freerider challenge in the Alps, featuring a long track with smooth transfers, creative lines, and massive jumps. Mstifye also recommends the Space Jump in the Matterhorn for courageous players who crave more airtime. “This is one of the biggest drops in the game, this challenge will give you plenty of time in the air to practice spins and your most impressive flips. Landing it is a different story though.”
Grab your skis and snowboards and try out these challenges for yourself! While you’re at it, why not share your clips using the hashtag #SteepGame, or send us your best #SteepPhotoMode images?
