Jalopy is just two weeks away from its Early Access launch. Developer Greg Pryjmachuk is working hard on getting the game ready for release and has shared some details on the way Jalopy handles route generation.
While we could go into more detail, part of the magic is eliminated when you begin to talk numbers. Players sharing their best trips on YouTube and taking screenshots to show landmarks is one of the key elements of the game and we are looking forward to seeing player’s first experience with the game on the 14th of April.
The driver’s side door is home to the map. From here you can choose a destination and a route. Upon selection, the game will then generate a route for you to drive. The only knowledge you have before selecting a route is whether there is a gas station mid-way, the distance of the route and which weather conditions you’d likely encounter.
On generation, factors will be decided by the game including AI placement, road conditions, package generation and building placement. Towns will also have some elements generated but will always contain a motel for you to sleep until morning, a Laika dealership to purchase new parts and a market where you will be able to sell the items you scavenged on your journey.

The petrol station has been rebuilt and some of the bugs have been stomped out that had been hidden there. Full details of the new rebuilt petrol station can be found on Greg's dev log at:

As we are a few weeks away from launch, we thought that we would update the Announcement page to include an FAQ! I'll of course be updating this and the FAQ in the forums as more players ask question
Ignore the preorder in the URL, we will update that soon. you will get the game sent immediately to your email inbox
How many components can we edit in the game?
The vehicle currently has seven major engine components that can affect vehicle performance. More details on each of the engine parts are below:
What is currently playable in the game during Early Access
Currently the player is able to free drive across two regions, Germany and the CSFR. Routes will be generated on selection of a destination and these will be picked from a selection of what we could call tile sets. so maybe you'll have an obstacle in one route, while another time you won't, maybe there will be a bridge, maybe you'll have an off road area to explore.
Players will be able to scavenge for items while on the road and sell these to gas stations and shops. This money can be used to upgrade your car by purchasing new car parts at the Laika garage. But the core experience is experienced from driving from destination to destination, making sure that all of the parts in your car maintained and replacing car parts for a more efficient and powerful car.
We are planning to work on this. Right now we are refining mechanics with mouse and keyboard support. But we are intending to feature support for both in the future.
Will there be online Multiplayer?
The game is designed as a core single player experience where the player needs to manage the core components of the car which will damage and wear over time. We have no plans to introduce multiplayer and want to truly make a great single player game.
What formats are supported
At Early Access launch the game will feature only PC support, but a MAC version is planned to release later.
How does saving work?
Currently, the game saves certain details including engine components, durability, money and items in your trunk. The game does not currently save at a motel, though we are looking into that. There are elements of roguelike to the game, where each time you restart you have a chance at improving your car even further.
How can I make suggestions?
We have a special suggestions board in the Steam forums. Clear heading titles for your post really help us when we check out the forums and makes it easier for us to locate new and exciting ideas!
Bugs?
Yes, there are bugs. We do consider this game to be pre alpha and understand that some things are not yet implemented, some things are not working correctly and there are a few bugs in the game. We are working on these daily.
If you want to submit a bug report, visit our bugs forum in the steam forums. You can also track a list of known bugs in the following QA document:
We are focusing on the core game play at the launch of Early Access, this means English will be the priority language. However we will be looking to quickly support German, French, Italian, Spanish and Russian during Early Access. We hope to include even further support for languages!
We will be looking to localize some text files shortly after the launch of Early Access. If you want to be involved and help us localize the game into your language, do get in touch at support@excalibur-publishing.com.
If you have any more questions, let us know in the forum and I'll of course update this post!
