Commanders!

The recently release Update 0.28 brought a number of balance changes to the game, most notably the improvement of the ATGMs across the board to make ATGM-based vehicles more viable. We are also carefully listening to your feedback regarding these changes and today we’d like to address some of the most frequently brought up questions.

Immediately after the update’s launch, the biggest concern was raised about the guided missiles now being overpowered, especially the mid-Tier ones.

First thing we’d like to stress out (like we did in the recent developer diary) is that our philosophy is that there are plenty of active (or passive) ways of dealing with ATGMs, from anti-HEAT armor over APS to player behavior where smoke can be deployed and missiles can be dodged. Once they hit, however, we want the target to feel it – in other words, missiles do deal a lot of damage if they connect. The original buffs were scaled down based on your feedback, but the core idea has not changed.

With that being said, when we take the entire general mid-Tier situation into account, the ATGMs on mid-Tiers are not performing above what’s acceptable. If we, for example, take the VBL (specifically with the TOW system installed, not the autocannon), it is outperformed in damage by multiple vehicles (for example, Object 279, AMX-40 or the Sheridan). There is, however, one exception to this – the IT-1, which is indeed performing a little too well and we will be addressing that issue.

On Tier 7, the situation is similar with all ATGM-based vehicles being average at best, once again, with one exception – the Scorpion Kastet, which is currently performing extremely well and we will be taking a long hard look at its statistics in order to determine the best course of action (or, more specifically, how to bring it to acceptable levels).

Finally, there’s the question of Tier 10 where we have a rather peculiar situation. The Kornet moved from being one of the worst performing vehicles to somewhat average values, but is still not doing all that well and we are currently reviewing its situation. The T-15 is another very specific case – apart from the 0.28 changes that introduced the ability to fire two missiles at once, it was affected by a fix where we corrected an ancient issue related to its ATGM trajectory. In other words, its ATGMs are currently behaving as intended, but this situation makes it more difficult to fire them at close distances, which is, to a large degree, also intended – after all, the vehicle has fixed ATGM launchers based on the prototype pattern shown during the military parades. The vehicle is more or less placed on the lower end of average performance values at the moment, at least in PvP.

And finally, there is the matter of the Sphinx AFV, which is, for all intents and purposes, seriously underperforming and like the other abovementioned outliers, we will be taking steps to improve its situation. Either way, we are keeping a close eye on the vehicle balance.

Another balance matter is that of the Tier 10 Premium vehicles (most notably the Type 99A2-140 and Armata 152 MBTs) overperforming in PvP matches. We are pleased to announce that the Update 0.28 balance changes brought all the outliers to acceptable values. If we take, for example, vehicle winrate as a very rough general performance indicator, the Type 99A2-140 is sitting at 50 percent winrate while the Armata 152 moved down to a little over 49 percent. Of course, winrate is only one of many indicators we are keeping our eyes on (especially considering the fact that these vehicles do appear in the Battalion Ranked Battles) – both of these tanks still retain their excellent damage-dealing capability and are fully capable of going toe to toe with the best – but, ultimately, performance is not only about raw armor and firepower and we have successfully adjusted their other parameters to match the desired performance.

Related to the above is the Leopard 2AX situation. You’ve brought the topic of Leopard 2AX underperforming and we agree – it will be looked at and improved, specifically by increasing its damage output. What we do not agree upon, however, is the sometimes brought up statement that Leopard 2AX is bugged by having too thin armor. Leopard 2AX’s thin armor is intentionally not as thick as that of other Tier 10 MBTs. It is (within its class) a support vehicle. Armor thickness diversity is one of the things that make the differences between high-end MBTs more pronounced and we will not give up on the concept of having diverse vehicles in the game. There are vehicles in the game already that offer a playstyle based on their thick armor. Players expecting to shrug off even the heaviest hits will perhaps find them more suitable to their preferences.

And last but definitely not least, another very commonly brought up issue is that of inverted reverse steering and the changes we’ve made in Update 0.28. In Update 0.27 (and before), the inverted steering had several (mostly backend) technical issues that we corrected, which, however, led to some unintended behavior that was partially addressed in the last hotfix. However, we can clearly see on your general feedback that the solution we’ve presented is not satisfactory. That is why we will do the following:
  • In the next hotfix, we will tweak the current mechanism in order for it to behave more naturally and will gather your feedback on the situation. We believe that this fix will make it feel completely natural (unlike now)
  • If the feedback on this improved version is negative, we will revert the reverse inversion mechanism to the way it was before the introduction of Update 0.27
We hope that you will enjoy the rest of the Arabian Nights season and we are looking forward to your feedback.

See you on the battlefield!

Another round of weekly discounts is here, this time with the Taifun II Claw TD.

From 1978 until the early 1980s, Mowag ran a development program for an unusual casemate tank destroyer on the chassis of one of its unsuccessful prototype IFVs. This IFV was called the Tornado and the tank destroyer project received the name “Taifun” (Typhoon). Despite its defensive nature and powerful 120mm armament, the Taifun II failed to find any customers and remained a prototype only.

In Armored Warfare, the Taifun II is a Tier 6 Premium Tank Destroyer. It’s unique in the way that, unlike other vehicles in the game, it does not have a turret and its gun arc is limited. To compensate for this handicap, the Taifun II boasts excellent camouflage factor thanks to its low height as well as solid firepower for its Tier. The Taifun II Claw comes with a special beastly camouflage.

Aside from the standalone discounted offer (including for Gold), it will be available in the following bundles between April 9 and April 11, 2019:

Improved Bundle with 30% discount, containing:
  • Taifun II Claw Tier 6 Premium Tank Destroyer
  • 5 Gold Loot Crates
  • 5 Gold Battlefield Glory 12-hour Boost tokens
  • 20 Gold Crew Insignia tokens
  • 20 Gold Commander Insignia tokens
  • 20 Gold Reputation Insignia tokens
  • 20 Gold Credits Insignia tokens
  • 20 Gold Experience Insignia tokens
  • 2.000 Gold
Prime Bundle with 45% discount, containing:
  • Taifun II Claw Tier 6 Premium Tank Destroyer
  • 10 Platinum Loot Crates
  • 10 Platinum Battlefield Glory 12-hour Boost tokens
  • 35 Platinum Crew Insignia tokens
  • 35 Platinum Commander Insignia tokens

Please note that this bundle does not contain the base vehicle the skin is applied to, only the skin itself. The vehicle needs to be obtained separately. The skin is available for Gold in our Web Shop or for standard currency on MyLoot.

Apart from the permanent standalone offers, the following special bundles are also available between April 4 and April 9, 2019:

LAV-150 90 Merc

The LAV-150 90 is a four-wheeled light fighting vehicle by Cadillac Gage. Originally designed as an affordable, all-steel multi-purpose scout, the Commando, as it's also known, received new teeth in the form of a 90mm Cockerill cannon.

In Armored Warfare, the LAV-150 90 is a Tier 4 Premium Tank Destroyer. Its four-wheel chassis makes it very mobile but where it really shines is when sniping at long distances thanks to its unusually powerful weapon for its Tier. The 90mm gun allows the LAV-150 to knock out a wide variety of targets – including tanks.

Aside from the permanent offer, it is available in the following bundles:

Improved Bundle with 25% discount, containing:
  • LAV-150 90 Merc Tier 4 Premium Tank Destroyer
  • 3 Gold Loot Crates

  • 25 Gold Experience Insignia tokens
  • 1.000 Gold

AMX-10P PAC 90 Merc

The AMX-10P PAC 90 is a fire support variant of the French AMX-10P tracked infantry fighting vehicle. Designed in the late 1960s, the AMX-10P served in the French military for more than three decades before being officially replaced by the VBCI in 2008.

In Armored Warfare, the AMX-10P PAC 90 Merc is a Tier 4 Tank Destroyer. The 90mm GIAT gun gives this AMX-10P a serious punch and makes it a dangerous opponent for all vehicles around its Tier in Armored Warfare. It is also very light and agile, making it a suitable introduction to the Tank Destroyer class for every player.

Aside from the permanent offer, it is available in the following bundles:

Improved Bundle with 25% discount, containing:
  • AMX-10P PAC 90 Merc Tier 4 Premium Tank Destroyer
  • 3 Gold Loot Crates
  • 1 Gold Battlefield Glory 12-hour Boost token

  • 25 Gold Commander Insignia tokens
  • 25 Gold Reputation Insignia tokens
  • 25 Gold Credits Insignia tokens
  • 25 Gold Experience Insignia tokens
  • 1.000 Gold

Zhalo-S Merc

The 2S14 Zhalo-S is an experimental light, highly mobile, Soviet self-propelled gun from the 1980s. It is armed with an 85mm cannon on a BTR-70 wheeled chassis. Despite its unusually low caliber, the gun was very capable of defeating older vehicles, but it lacked the penetration of 125mm guns, a fact that ultimately doomed the project. The surviving prototype is currently located in the Kubinka Tank Museum.

In Armored Warfare, it’s one of the deadliest Tier 4 vehicles when driven by an experienced commander. Its gun has a rather low caliber for its Tier, but it more than makes up for it with its rate of fire and penetration power. The Zhalo-S can stay hidden for extended periods of time thanks to its excellent camouflage factor and, with a bit of luck, is capable of taking out entire squads of enemies on its own.

Aside from the permanent offer, it is available in the following bundles:

Improved Bundle with 25% discount, containing:
  • Zhalo-S Merc Tier 4 Premium Tank Destroyer
  • 3 Gold Loot Crates
  • 1 Gold Battlefield Glory 12-hour Boost token
  • 10 Gold Crew Insignia tokens
  • 10 Gold Commander Insignia tokens
  • 10 Gold Reputation Insignia tokens
  • 10 Gold Credits Insignia tokens
  • 10 Gold Experience Insignia tokens
  • 250 Gold
Prime Bundle with 35% discount, containing:
  • Zhalo-S Merc Tier 4 Premium Tank Destroyer
  • 7 Gold Loot Crates
  • 3 Gold Battlefield Glory 12-hour Boost tokens
  • 25 Gold Crew Insignia tokens
  • 25 Gold Commander Insignia tokens
  • 25 Gold Reputation Insignia tokens
  • 25 Gold Credits Insignia tokens
  • 25 Gold Experience Insignia tokens
  • 1.000 Gold

MBT-70 Merc

Germany and the United States cooperated in the 1960s and 70s to create the ultimate Main Battle Tank to replace the aging Patton tank series in service. The MBT-70 prototype tank was the U.S. result of the development program. It was exceptionally well armed with a 152mm gun, capable of firing guided missiles and equipped with cutting edge technology, but high costs and endless delays in development led to the cancellation of this project and the subsequent adoption of a more reasonable design – the Abrams.

In Armored Warfare, the MBT-70 is a Tier 6 Premium Main Battle Tank. Several features make it quite unique – it has a large caliber gun that, while slow to reload, delivers tremendous damage with each shot. It can also fire devastating guided missiles and while its mobility levels aren’t the best, it can devastate its opponents with well-timed shots, relying on its armor to keep it alive while it reloads.

Aside from the permanent offer, it is available in the following bundles:

Improved Bundle with 27% discount, containing:
  • MBT-70 Merc Tier 6 Premium Main Battle Tank
  • 5 Gold Loot Crates
  • 5 Gold Battlefield Glory 12-hour Boost tokens
  • 15 Gold Crew Insignia tokens
  • 15 Gold Commander Insignia tokens
  • 15 Gold Reputation Insignia tokens
  • 15 Gold Credits Insignia tokens
  • 15 Gold Experience Insignia tokens

  • 10 Platinum Loot Crates
  • 10 Platinum Battlefield Glory 12-hour Boost tokens
  • 35 Platinum Crew Insignia tokens
  • 35 Platinum Commander Insignia tokens
  • 35 Platinum Reputation Insignia tokens
  • 35 Platinum Credits Insignia tokens
  • 35 Platinum Experience Insignia tokens
  • 3.500 Gold

VFM5 Merc

When it was designed, the VFM Light Tank by Vickers was expected to be a success. Produced for export, it was just what customers required – MBT-level firepower (thanks to its 105mm Royal Ordnance L7 gun) on a light, tracked and – most importantly – affordable chassis. What the designers at Vickers didn’t anticipate was the end of the Cold War, which flooded the market with surplus cheap armor, sealing the fate of this otherwise excellent vehicle.

In Armored Warfare, the VFM5 is an excellent Tier 6 Light Tank. One of the first premium vehicles introduced to the game, time has only enhanced its battlefield value. It is fast, agile and perfect representative of the Light Tank flanking play style.

Aside from the permanent offer, it is available in the following bundles:

Improved Bundle with 27% discount, containing:
  • VFM5 Tier 6 Premium Light Tank
  • 5 Gold Loot Crates
  • 5 Gold Battlefield Glory 12-hour Boost tokens
  • 15 Gold Crew Insignia tokens
  • 15 Gold Commander Insignia tokens
  • 15 Gold Reputation Insignia tokens
  • 15 Gold Credits Insignia tokens
  • 15 Gold Experience Insignia tokens
  • 1.750 Gold
Prime Bundle with 40% discount, containing:
  • VFM5 Tier 6 Premium Light Tank
  • 10 Platinum Loot Crates
  • 10 Platinum Battlefield Glory 12-hour Boost tokens
  • 35 Platinum Crew Insignia tokens
  • 35 Platinum Commander Insignia tokens
  • 35 Platinum Reputation Insignia tokens
  • 35 Platinum Credits Insignia tokens
  • 35 Platinum Experience Insignia tokens
  • 3.500 Gold
And last but not least, all of the Merc vehicles are available in the Merc Bundle with massive 60% discount along with:
  • 90 days of Premium Time
  • 50 Platinum Loot Crates
  • 20 Platinum Battlefield Glory 12-hour Boost tokens
  • 10.000 Gold

Please note:
  • This offer starts on April 4, 16:00 CEST (7 AM PDT)
  • This offer ends on April 9, 16:00 CEST (7 AM PDT)
  • If you already owned a bundle vehicle, you will instead receive its Compensation Value in Gold instead
We hope that you will enjoy this offer and will see you on the battlefield!
