Armored Warfare - Silentstalker
Commanders!

We are proud to announce that the upcoming Update 0.23 “Caribbean Crisis” will bring a new game mode called Special Operations.

This mode is an important building block of the entire game, and more than a one-update affair. It will bring new gameplay elements and expand on the classic Player versus Environment experience, but it is more than that.

One of the prime reasons for the introduction of Special Operations to Armored Warfare is taking the entire lore aspect of the game into new heights and creating an immersive, episodic storytelling experience, which will unravel over the course of 2018.

Special Operations are series of missions (called chapters) bound together by a common storyline, which will be expanded over a long period of time with key updates. You’ll have the opportunity to shape the future of the story by being a part of it.

What can you expect from Special Operations (amongst other things):
  • Challenging, scaling missions
  • A new achievement structure
  • Lasers (and many other high-tech means of mayhem)
Shape the future. Make history!

Special Operations Storyline

The world is on the brink of ruin. Wealthy corporations control vast territories, replacing the state authority in all but name, their regulations having the power of laws and their security forces or hired mercenaries acting as private armies.

Our tale begins, as legends often do, with one man deciding that the world he lived was not good enough. A seasoned mercenary, bent on taking the fight to those who had done him wrong, sparking a revolution that would engulf the whole world in flames.

It is 2042 and you are not that man – you are a mercenary in the service of International Security Department, a multilateral body established in the wake of the corporate wars waged in the late 2030s. You were tasked with protecting a Clayburn Industries facility hidden deep in the Mojave Desert. That is how your story begins.

It’s time to repair your tanks, stock up on ammo and dive into the world of Armored Warfare!

Playing Special Operations

On the PvE mission selection screen, the Special Operations appear as separate choices that the players have to manually select (they do not replace the standard PvE missions).

Special Operations progression works as follows:
  • All players start with the first mission of the Special Operation
  • Completing the mission successfully unlocks the next mission of the series (the earlier one stops being available), the previous mission stops being available
  • Failing the mission will not unlock the next mission of the series
  • Completing all missions in the Special Operation will unlock the opportunity to re-run the series again
Please note that platoons are available the same way they are in standard PvE, but can enter a Special Operation chapter only if all members of the platoon have it unlocked.

Special Operations missions are more challenging than the usual PvE ones. There are two difficulty levels for these new PvE missions:
  • Standard
  • Hardcore
Standard Spec Ops missions are comparable in their difficulty to their normal counterparts, but Hardcore Spec Ops missions are very demanding, making coordinated team play highly advisable (practically a requirement). Please note:
  • Standard Special Operations missions are available from Tier 2 to Tier 8 vehicles
  • Hardcore Special Operations missions are available only to Tier 9 and Tier 10 vehicles
Naturally, this level of difficulty calls for an appropriate reward.

Special Operations Rewards

The basic Special Operations reward level (rewards per mission completed) is somewhat lower than the one of standard PvE, but is significantly increased by a special periodic bonus as well as achievement bonuses described below.

Special Operations missions do have additional bonus objectives that increase the rewards significantly, but generally speaking, the rewards for the Standard mode are on par with medium difficulty PvE missions while the Hardcore mode rewards are on par with hard difficulty PvE missions. Please also note that Special Operations do not use the standard First Victory of the Day mechanism (the bonus will simply not be used with these missions).

However, Special Operations have a bonus that can make them very profitable.
  • Completing each Special Operations mission once per three days grants you four times as many Credits and Reputation as it normally would
  • Additionally, completing the entire one series once per three days will grant you a free Platinum Loot Crate.
In other words, running the whole series once per three days is extremely profitable. This increased reward is indicated on each Special Operations mission’s icon. Additionally, special achievements will be available. A few examples:
  • First completion on Standard difficulty
  • First completion on Hardcore difficulty
  • Various battle achievements (for example, dealing a certain amount of damage)
  • Hardcore teamwork results of various difficulty levels
These achievements will come with their own rewards, ranging from Global Reputation to player titles or even special decals, avatars and camouflages (available to all tanks for free). Some of these achievements will require multiple playthroughs of the series. And last but not least, there are also two hidden achievements that will only appear in the list once received.

We hope that you’ll enjoy the Special Operations mode and will see you on the battlefield!

In Armored Warfare, Type 96A is a Tier 7 Main Battle Tank, available in Zhang Feng’s vehicle pool. However, it’s not the newest version of the Type 96 vehicle series planned for Armored Warfare. For Update 0.23, we’ve prepared a premium variant called Type 96B.

Type 96B is, as its name suggests, an upgraded version of the Type 96A Main Battle Tank. It appeared for the first time in 2016 when it participated in the annual Tank Biathlon contest on the Alabino polygon in Russia. The event took place in July and August 2016 and China won the second place with the Type 96B and its crew only defeated by the Russian team.

Even though both vehicles look roughly similar in shape, the Type 96B has a number of upgrades over the older Type 96A variant.

First, according to Chinese sources, it has thicker turret armor. Its exact performance is not known and given the experimental nature of the vehicle, it likely won’t be for some time. The same goes for the hull front that now features a somewhat different ERA kit layout (the ERA is of the FY4 type). Some Chinese sources claim that the frontal turret protection levels increased from Type 96A’s 670mm of RHAe to 700-750mm RHAe, while the hull has a protection equivalent of up to 1100mm of RHAe versus HEAT rounds and 650mm RHAe versus kinetic rounds. How much of this is actually true is not known, but the Type 96B is generally considered to have the frontal protection equal to the newer Type 99 models.

The turret is also recognizable from the older Type 96A by the presence of such elements as:
  • New laser rangefinder above the gun
  • New gun optics
  • New weather sensor at the back of the turret
These changes are connected to the presence of a new, more advanced fire control system for the 125mm smoothbore gun, making it more accurate compared to its predecessor and decreasing its reaction time. It only takes roughly 6 seconds from the discovery of the target to the first shot. The vehicle is also rumored to use brand-new APFSDS shells, capable of penetrating more than 700mm of armor at 2km.

The engine part of the vehicle has also been overhauled. The original 730hp 12150ZLC V12 turbocharged diesel engine of the Type 96A was changed to the smaller but more powerful 150HB 8-cylinder diesel, rumored to produce anywhere between 1000hp and 1300hp (sources vary). The most common Chinese source number seems to be 1200 hp. In any case, the maximum speed of the vehicle was increased from 57 km/h to 70 km/h and the agility of the vehicle was increased as well.

To accommodate these changes, the engine deck and rear of the vehicle were overhauled – the Type 96B engine part is recognizable from the Type 96A one by being vertical and featuring two radiator grilles as well as two round engine exhausts.

The suspension was also updated – Type 96B is recognizable from Type 96A by a different layout of roadwheels, especially noticeable by the gap between the third and the fourth one.

Apart from the abovementioned changes, the vehicle also features a number of minor upgrades such as the design of the side skirts and the mud guards, new double-pin tracks, new headlights and so on.

Not much else is known about this new Type 96 variant, nor are there any announced plans for the Chinese military to convert its fleet of Type 96A tanks into Type 96Bs. According to some Chinese sources, the Chinese military isn’t really happy with the tank and the development of the Type 96 platform will continue.

The Tank Biathlon event is, however, an excellent method of testing such experimental vehicles in practice and it’s quite possible that the Type 96B or other future variants of the Type 96 will appear there in the future.

In Armored Warfare, the Type 96B will be a Tier 8 Premium Main Battle Tank, available in the Web Shop. Compared to the Type 96A, it will feature improved firepower thanks to more modern shells while the protection will be roughly on par with its predecessor. Speed and agility-wise, the Type 96B MBT will be superior to Type 96A and will be suitable for players, who like the end-game style of Chinese vehicles – agile and fast Main Battle Tank capable of dealing high amounts of damage.

We hope that you’ll like it and will see you on the battlefield!
