Hey guys! Here are your answers of the week. The last thread can be found here. We're also going to put up a thread in the Steam forums collecting all previous threads so they're easily accessible, and start numbering them so you guys can see how many we've done so far.

Any update on when sandstorms might cause damage? Or if there are plans to make them last longer, be more frequent, or add other weather-based problems for Exiles to deal with? Thanks!

Joel Bylos: I can’t say when, but we are looking at the weather system (which will have new types of weather in the new biome) and we will make some fixes to the sandstorm as we go. Weather will affect temperature, and Exiles will need to start worrying about temperature in the next biome.

Are there plans for allowing foundation pieces to be set at different heights while still snapping to adjacent pieces without janky workarounds?

Joel Bylos: It’s not currently in the plans, nor do I think it is easy to do given the current building setup. We snap buildings to certain points, adding a lot of new points would have a performance impact on the game (not to mention making snapping a lot more fiddly). I’ll add this to our list of things to consider for building but I am doubtful that it is easy to do.

What's your guy's lunch routine? do ya'll lunch together in a room and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t the days stress away with each other or does everybody kinda do their own thing? always wondered how game development culture is in the workplace.

Joel Bylos: We have a cantina where we eat every day. Some people prefer to eat at their desks, but most people sit in the shared space and shoot the♥♥♥♥♥♥ It’s actually very nice because the CEO and COO eat with everybody else so it means we have a nice layer of camaraderie and friendship across the entire company strata. It also means that people interact more than just in the roles that their jobs imply.

With the in game map screen, are there any plans to be able to add custom markers to pinpoint places of interest? For instance your own clans bases, friendly/enemy clans, resource specific locations, animal spawns etc. I know I have a few item caches scattered around the map that I do struggle to keep track of.

Joel Bylos: We are adding the ability to add custom stamps (and text) in the map update coming in the next update (after the orbs/avatar defense update).

Will avatar avatar defense be active or passive? Do I need to hit a button in order to turn it on? And will any shrine protect against all other avatars, or just one of them?

Joel Bylos: I suggest watching the recent livestream to see how it works. You need to craft to turn it on. It protects against all avatars currently.

How can we protect against climbing? If climbing ruins efforts of hours of building and T3/T4 thralls, many people will leave. Many people won't farm for hours to lose everything in 5 minutes. Let us know how climbing is not going to ruin the game.

Joel BYlos: Multiple ways to defend against climbing. Build rooves. Put thralls on angles so they can shoot climbers, but not be shot themselves from the ground. Place out traps that will knock climbers off walls. There are literally dozens of ways to defend against it with a little bit of creative thinking!

Would it be possible to wipe server progression periodically during Early Access? Not wiping the servers makes playing the game stale very quickly, servers plagued with the after effects of exploits that may have since been patched. Assign a specific wipe date each month and watch your player numbers rebound, and new sales generate. The devs need to stop forcing their creative choices on the players and start listening to the community, because it obviously isn't working, is it?

Joel Bylos: Our original plan was to do 30day wipe servers and we changed that based on the community. As devs, we wanted to wipe every 30 days. Instead we did the complete opposite of what you are saying – we listened to the community and changed our plans.

In addition, we already have this system, called the Blitz servers, where you can play for 30 days and then have progress wiped. These are our least popular servers, with only 2% of our players on them.

As for forcing our “creative” choices on players, let me be clear: We are making the game we have envisioned, and trying to incorporate player feedback and ideas. But we’re not making a “community consensus” game. We told people what we want the game to be, and what our goals are for the game.

Finally, it is easy to sit outside and say “listen to community”, but the community consist of a large amount of people who all want different things. PvP players want very different things to PvE players. Modders want a different focus again, as do RPers. Server Admins also want a bunch of features. We try to align with what we are doing, and do our very best to give people the things that they ask for.

can you gyus give to us some stuff for PVE (for example like in popular HomeBrew+ mod) on official servers? agriculture? stock raising?

Joel Bylos: We have plans for some of this with the new biome. Fishtraps, Crabtraps, Beehives etc. We have some plans, yep!

Is there anything you can tell us about your plans for Silver in-game. Is it still happening that silver will be the only way to kill certain demons? Is this feature still coming, if so are there any details of it you can provide. Will this feature be a counter to the sorcery's demons summons and transformations you mentioned?

Joel Bylos: I think I mentioned this in the stream on Friday – we will still add it but it is lower on the list of things to fix. Adding silver and silver resistance, using it on systems like Sorcery is easy, but that is once the core systems are setup the way we wish.

How about a hand scythe tool for harvesting fiber?

Joel Bylos: Being added with the new biome.

When the new biome comes out, I'm working under the assumption that there will be new ways of surviving and building in said biome, different tiers of structures and different styles that reflect the resources plentiful in that area. My question is, are those buildings, tools, and weapons going to be making the tech tree go "wide", suggesting variants of T1, T2, and T3 buildings using biome focused resources, or is the tech tree going "tall", creating a higher tier that we have to upgrade to to stay compettitive in PVP?

Joel Bylos: Wide, not tall on the building side. Some weapon tiers will be higher and force you to explore the new area for resources.

I play on a Roleplay Server and some questions go around and around:
Most of the players want more body types. Can we play as a fat Set priest, a skinny male character or a woman with less musicles? Will this happen? Are there any plans on expanding the character creator and give us more facial options? Finally will we ever see our character’s weapons on their model?

Joel Bylos: I swear I have answered this question 100 times. We won’t do massive character morphs, but we will add more physique types (less muscular for example). We will be adding more options to character creation. You will probably never see your weapon on your model.

What are you going to do about the game? Its so riddled with bugs, and exploits even the RPers are leaving. Most of the servers are at 0/0 people logged in, some are shutting down. Even viewer count on twitch is low. You're game is basically dead and its not released. Content is coming to slow, bug fix's too slow. For a game that saved your company, you sure are royally screwing it up

Joel Bylos: Let me ask this back to you. What should we do, that we aren’t already doing? The team is working as fast as they can legally work, we have opened a bunch of new positions to hire (but that takes time) and we are making steps to improve the game every patch. You say that we are fixing things too slow…okay, but if we cannot physically work more often or harder then what is the solution? We’ve already hired two external companies to contract with us and help out. You say that content is coming too slow, but again, are you asking that we whip the devs and make them work more than legally is allowed?

As for exploits – we have fixed a huge amount of exploits and are still fixing them all the time. Compared to other games that have been in Early Access for a much longer time, our client has a more stable framerate and far less exploits. Yet it doesn’t seem to impact the popularity of those games.

The only answer to what are we going to do about it is this – we’re going to keep working on it, we’re going to keep improving it, and maybe, just maybe, when we are ready to launch, people will try it and be pleasantly surprised by all the things we have done to make the game great.

Because, after all, this is Early Access.

It is time for another edition of the questions of the week thread! This week we're reaching out on both Reddit and Steam, so we should hopefully get a wide variety of questions.

Is there something you're desperate to know about Conan Exiles, game development, Funcom as a company or the people working here? Want to know what kind of milk Joel prefers on his cereal or whether we endorse pineapple on pizzas?

This is the place to ask!

The routine is the same as last time. The thread goes up today and at the end of the week we'll lock it and pick our questions. The answers thread will go up during the weekend.

Feel free to ask whatever you want, within reason. And please, keep it kind. We might play as barbarians, but we don't have to act like them on the Internet.
