Z1 Battle Royale - Greg

We’ve got a number of bug fixes and hit-reg improvements for the update tomorrow and we will be keeping a close eye on feedback. So let’s get on with the good stuff.

Bug fixes:
  • We were able to identify one issue causing client framerate hitches.
    • This was one of the main offenders, there may be other causes for hitches so please report them as you see them (we love clips).
  • StreamDeck and similar devices should function properly again.
  • Fixed a rare client crash that could occur when simultaneously reloading and shooting.
Hit Reg Improvements:
  • Player hitboxes have been slightly adjusted to provide more consistent hit feedback.
  • Neck shots are now critical hits to more clearly separate headshots from bodyshots.
  • Reduced idle head-bob animations for more consistent hit registration against stationary targets.
  • Loot bag projectile collision has been removed so that they will no longer block shots.
Anti-Cheat
  • 3rd Party protection updates
  • Improved security on some specific file types
  • Adjustments to the automatic flagging system
Quality of life changes:
  • Removed a few gas ring end-points that were on the extreme edges of the map creating unfavorable endgame scenarios.

We do want to take a moment and mention that we aren’t done with hit-reg improvements. On the animation front we will continue to reduce and possibly eliminate the passive animations from a remote client to completely remove the chance that they can interfere with a 2 tap and hit reg. This is one of the issues that this update really assists with because the animations have been significantly reduced, however there is still a slight chance that the characters breathing animation can raise the chest up enough to get in the way of a neck shot, creating the headshot/bodyshot issue. For general hit-reg improvements we will continue to work on these as long as we need to. There is nothing more important in a shooter than hitting the target you should be hitting and we’ll be pushing forward and working to making sure the combat experience in H1 is as reliable as it should be.

One more tiny side note, we originally wanted this to go out as a hotfix with no downtime but we were able to get in some additional anti-cheat measures that unfortunately required us bringing down the servers. So, while downtime is never fun, we think the benefit is worth it since it’ll help with some of the cheats. Servers will be coming offline tomorrow, the 3rd, beginning at 1:00pm PT. Downtime should be minimal, we currently have it estimated at 3 hours, but we’re optimistic that we’ll get it done sooner.

Always looking forward to feedback and seeing how we can further improve.

Z1 Battle Royale - Greg

We’ve updated the Test Server with a number of hit registration improvements and bug fixes. We’ll be unlocking Test for the weekend (Friday 7/28 at 8:00pm PT – Sunday 7/30 at 8:00pm PT) and then reviewing your feedback on Monday. We had a lot of these adjustments for hit-reg ready to go and didn’t want to hold them back just for inclusion in the Combat Update (which will be our next major push to Test). If everything looks good, we will release these changes in a hotfix (no downtime required) next week.

Bug fixes:
  • We were able to identify one issue causing client framerate hitches.  This has been fixed – if you’ve been experiencing that issue please hop on Test and let us know if it’s been cleared up.  It’s possible that there are other causes, and we are continuing to investigate this aggressively as a top priority.

H1Z1: King of the Kill game servers will be coming down on Thursday, July 20th at 1pm PST for maintenance and an update.  Downtime is estimated to be approximately 4 hours.  The update includes several bug fixes, server optimizations and various other improvements.  Below is a list of the changes:

  • Hit-Reg: Fixed an issue where shots could pass through players sitting in vehicles from certain angles, without taking damage.
  • Anti-cheat: Several changes have been incorporated to further prevent cheating.
  • Updated the network diagnostic HUD element that can be toggled on by pressing ‘N’ (default).  Please enable this while recording or streaming – if you encounter latency or desync issues and send us the video, it’ll be a huge help to pinpointing problems.
  • Steam avatars should no longer occasionally be missing in the main menu lobby.
  • Players will now correctly be awarded credit for kills when their victim is “finished off” by indirect damage such as gas, falling, or car explosions.  Also fixed Molotov’s and explosive arrows counting as environmental kills instead of player kills.
  • Med kits are no longer consumed when they do not actually begin a heal over time (this occurs when a med kit is applied when another med kit healing effect is already active on the player).
  • Fixed an issue where firing at the same time as a reload is triggered could cause the ammo count to be incorrect.
  • The prone to stand up animation can no longer be skipped.
  • Renamed the “Bandages” and “Other Medical” key bindings to “Medical 1” and “Medical 2” since any medical item can be equipped in either slot.
  • Postal boxes will now correctly take damage from vehicles.
  • Objects and lootable items no longer spawn slightly underground in warehouses.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing infinite load screens (IRM).  We are still investigating this to make sure any other causes are identified and addressed.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur with outdated graphics drivers or overheating/overclocked GPUs.
  • Fixed a server crash that would disconnect all players in a match when it occurred.

Just a reminder that during the Live server downtime, the NA, EU and APAC Public Test servers will be open for everyone.

We've got client-only hotfix prepared to publish in the next few mins. The change requires no server downtime. However, if you're already in-game, you will need to exit and login again for the update to take effect. If you encounter any issues related to the hotfix, please respond to this post.

Below is a list of the changes in the update:
  • Keystrokes and mouse-clicks will now skip the end screen animations.
  • Fixed a rare case where end screen audio could get stuck playing when exiting a match.
  • Top 10 and end screens now display the correct rank for matches finished with a placement higher than 150.
  • The OS clock will now automatically be set to “Maximum Resolution” by default when running the game, which in some cases will further improve hit accuracy, responsiveness and higher frame-rates.
  • Reporting players via control-R now requires you to be able to see them.
  • Fixed a hit-registration issue that could occur when a player is in water.
  • Added some additional monitoring to track down rare cases of frame hitching/freezing that some players have been experiencing.
  • We’ve fixed a rare client crash that would occur when using projectiles.
