Slime Rancher - Monomi Park
The next big thing for Slime Rancher is really different from anything we’ve created so far. We call it Slime Science, and it’s a suite of features that allow you to build crazy gadgets and place them throughout the world.

Slime Science is a big, complex project so despite everyone at Monomi Park working very hard, it’ll likely take some time to complete. However we feel like you’re going to really enjoy the results and the added depth it brings to Slime Rancher.

While things are still very much in development, here’s a little preview of what’s to come:

The Lab
The Lab is a new ranch expansion, much like the Grotto and Overgrowth. It features some new, empty ranch patches for you to customize, but the main attraction lies in the old barn that Hobson once built sitting near the back. Within this barn you’ll find a strange array of scientific equipment that will allow you to harness the power of plorts and other resources to create gadgets.

Gadgets come in a variety of forms: everything from helpful utilities to decorative objects and more.

But before you build anything you’ll need the necessary ingredients. About half of the ingredients come in the form of plorts and the other half from resources previously undiscovered.

The Refinery
The Lab contains a large, silo-like device called the refinery. The refinery is a one-way storage unit for your plorts and resources you intend to use in Slime Science. No need to have the items in your vac tanks when fabricating gadgets, the refinery keeps it all neatly organized for you.

The Builder’s Shop
The builder’s shop is a special shop for budding Slime Scientists that allows them to purchase gadget blueprints. Once acquired, the specified gadgets can be fabricated so long as you have the necessary ingredients.

The Fabricator
The fabricator allows you to build any gadget so long as you have its blueprint. Once built, the gadget can be placed at any build site.

Build Sites
Once you built some gadgets you’ll want to place them. And using a special new upgrade to your vacpack, you’ll be able to see all the available build sites in the world. Then it’s just a matter of choosing which gadget goes where! Build sites are located all over the world, including your ranch.

Extractors
In addition to plorts, all gadgets will require new, unique resources. These resources can be acquired in a variety of ways, but the most dependable method is to use aa series of gadgets known as extractors.

Extractors include drills, pumps, and apiaries and can be placed at any build site. Over time they collect resources and must be emptied periodically. Drills will unearth gems and minerals, pumps will siphon up oils and other fluids, and apiaries will harvest honey and other bee products.

And that about covers the basics of Slime Science! We look forward to sharing more as it develops and are very excited to see the way you’ll all further customize your worlds.

Stay tuned!

Slime Rancher - Monomi Park

Changes:
- The Moss Blanket has received a major overhaul! It’s about twice as big as it was previously and has a whole suite of unique art assets to make it the moody, emerald forest it always dreamed it could be.
- Hunter slimes are now on the prowl and can be discovered within the Moss Blanket! These sly predators can utilize a natural cloaking ability and create feral largos with their plorts.
- Improved gamepad UI-navigation on purchase/shop screens.
- Improved gamepad UI-navigation on Load Game screen.
- Garden depositors now simply display the icon of the food growing instead of the ‘Harvest Time’ countdown. After thorough testing and player feedback we determined the timer was confusing. Though more info may be added to it in the future.
- Added a “Loading” step when bringing up the Load Game screen while waiting for the game summaries to load. Only really noticeable for very large sets of save files.
- The world is now prettier and easier to see in at night thanks to a lovely rim light added to all the environmental objects.
- The radio in Beatrix’s house now plays some catchy tunes that change throughout the day.
- Reorganized the Gamepad Options panel
- Water is now more effective against Tarr, though just as before, they are twice as hard to kill at night.
- Tarrs now visibly flash red when hit. At first we thought it was because the water made them blush but then they exploded...
- Adjusted the fill color for vac slots of various poultry to be in accordance with the International Association of Chicken in Video Games standards.
- Added puddle and hunter slimes to the Range Exchange
- Added ravian flocks to Moss blanket and other parts of the Range (pretty bird-like things way up in the sky)
- Made Slimepedia Vacpack entries show gamepad-specific defaults when using the gamepad.
- Added a sprint toggle option
- Improved New Game panel, especially for use with gamepads.
- Increased visibility on veggies, fruit, and chickens in the dark.
- Made a significant optimization pass to art and level assets that should improve overall performance.

Fixes:
- Fixed bug where feral largos could become un-feral after a reload. The fix involves quickly but savagely insulting feral slimes on game load in order to ensure continual anger.
- Fixed bug where the Slimepedia title was of poor quality on low graphics settings.
- Fixed bug where New Game / Load Game screens were not responding to the B button.
- Fixed bug where Range Exchange was not recognizing that players had progressed into new areas and continuing to request the same old stuff.
- Fixed memory leak related to boom slimes.
- Fixed bug vac-ing water was not playing the appropriate sound effect.

Update: August 3, 2016 - v0.3.5b
Following the discovery of a bug, a small update was released. It includes:
- Fixed a bug causing feral slimes and tarr to possibly cause continual damage to the player
- Slightly increased the spawn rates of hunter slimes in the Moss Blanket.

Update: August 4, 2016 - v0.3.5c
A bug was discovered that could affect the lock state of the Moss Blanket slime gate if you were playing v0.3.5 for the first time with a save file from multiple versions prior. The fix introduced in v0.3.5c will prevent this from occurring, however it will not repair this broken state for those affected by the bug already. If you have already experienced this bug, you will need to create a new save file. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Slime Rancher - Monomi Park

Slime Rancher v0.3.5 is in development and we hope to be releasing it within a couple of weeks time. It includes a totally revamped Moss Blanket zone featuring a lot of new content to explore, increasing its size to about that of the Indigo Quarry.

This update will also finally introduce the elusive hunter slime! Thought to be the wild cousin of the tabby slime, the hunter slime is capable of a natural cloaking ability that allows it to sneak up on its favorite prey, roostros.

Aside from potentially losing your prized roostro to this proficient predator, a hunter slime can be a risk to ranchers in that every largo formed from a hunter slime becomes feral! Better have a few chickens handy! (and really, when is having a few chickens handy not a good thing?)

But what comes after v0.3.5? We’ll likely have a few more smaller updates and fixes (we’re working on another optimization pass), and then it’s the big v0.4.0.

We’ve got big plans for v0.4.0, which will include the new ranch expansion, The Lab, that will introduce a new game feature: SLIME SCIENCE!

While we’re not yet ready to share details of Slime Science, it’s being developed as a series of systems to enrich the existing game world and provide a major resource sink for all the goodies you’ve been collecting in Slime Rancher.

This is a big, complicated, new feature and will take time, so thanks so much for all your patience and support! And look forward to the new Moss Blanket and hunter slime in the coming weeks!
