To all Soldiers of Super Earth, a happy Liberty Day!

In celebration of this occasion, FREE equipment has been added to the Helldivers arsenal on all platforms (PS4, PS3, PSVita and STEAM). Try new ways to liberate the galaxy with the Heavy Strafing Run, A/GL-8 Launcher Turret or 'Thunderer' Smoke Round.

Furthermore, between October 26th – October 30th HELLDIVERS will be free to download and play on STEAM.

We are also hosting a Developer hangout AMA on Reddit and a Giveaway Competition, read on for the details.


Today 3 new stratagems have been added for all Helldivers to utilize in their endeavor to spread maximum democracy. Unlock them by completing all missions on a planet where they are the indicated reward.

Heavy Strafing Run
An Eagle fighter jet armed with a 25 mm chain gun strafes the area. The heavy rounds explode on impact, making it far more potent than the regular Strafing Run. This comes with the trade off of a longer time between engagements as the fighter has to swing wide and accelerate to compensate for recoil.


Launcher Turret
The A/GL-8 Launcher Turret is the latest development in automated sentry technology. Launching the same rounds as the Obliterator, it has immense firepower and shoots over obstacles. Meant for fixed position defense, a variable firing range was not deemed necessary during development. The turret can discern friend from foe, but watch out for the blast radius.


'Thunderer' Smoke Round
A single round of smoke is fired from a nearby 'Thunderer' artillery emplacement. The smoke will cover a small area for a short while and block all line of sight.



Throughout Liberty Day we will have developers from Arrowhead available in the pinned Developer hangout thread on Reddit /r/Helldivers. Here you can ask us all your burning questions about Helldivers, Arrowhead and developing games. Main hours will be 10am until 4pm CEST but we will try to follow up and answer additional questions afterward as well.

In celebration of this historical anniversary we are giving away free equipment to all Helldivers. There are also some competitions and other events happening on the Arrowhead Website where you can win both in game and real life prizes.

To celebrate Liberty Day all players will receive the new rifle M2016 ‘Constitution’ and the Liberty cape.

The M2016 'CONSTITUTION' is a reproduction of the old M1903 service rifle used in ancient times. It is fairly ineffective in combat but is used within the Super Earth Armed Forces as a ceremonial rifle. Every citizen is issued one once they turn 16 to encourage service.
While not recommended to bring into the field, it is certainly possible to use for the very skilled or the very brave.

The LIBERTY CAPE is given to every Helldiver so they will be able to celebrate the big day in style, while also showing their dedication to protecting the precious Liberty we enjoy today.



In addition to the new Liberty Day gear there are two more capes which have been added to the game – the Community Cape and the Developer Cape.

The COMMUNITY CAPE is given as a reward to outstanding individuals who have participated in – or helped out – the Helldivers community in various ways. Whether that be assistance in solving bugs, guiding new recruits, winning competitions or actively participating and engaging in forum discussions, these individuals can be distinguished from other recruits.

The DEVELOPER CAPE allows you to recognize members of the developer or publisher teams amidst the chaos of battle. (Shooting or badgering developers will not earn you any rewards, rather the opposite. We just wish to enjoy spreading democracy side by side!)


Tonight between 18:00 and 20:00 CEST we will be playing Helldivers with the community so come and join in! The event will be livestreamed on Arrowhead's Twitch channel and all information about how to participate is available there.

Helldivers Game Designer and Producer, Patrik Lasota, will also be taking part in a Reddit AMA over in the Helldivers subreddit. Make sure to stop by and say hi. The AMA thread will be stickied at the top of the page.

Important safety tips for all new Helldivers:

1. Remember; friendly fire – isn’t.
   
2. Taking out enemies before they eliminate your squad has proven to substantially increase the likelihood of survival.
   
3. HELLDIVERS’ uniforms are not fire proof.
   
4. Being hit by objects, such as Hellpods, launched at supersonic speeds from orbit may cause bodily harm.
   
5. Other instances beside the government may try to spread false propaganda.
   
6. Don’t be afraid of dying, another HELLDIVER will take your place.
   
7. Don’t drink and drive.
