Hello, survivors!

Intense battles have been fought in “Sinto city” for a month now, and you might be interested to know how we created this map. In addition, using this article, you will be able to understand the main processes that make up the development of any new location in Crossout. Let’s go!

The creation of any map consists of two main parts — a gameplay layout and a narrative component. The layout is the pure geometry of the map: the general landscape and large objects — buildings, bridges, etc. The narrative is expressed in everything else — in signs, destroyed objects, colour scheme, weather.

When creating a layout, we always try to make it so that the final location has opportunities for playing on different types of armoured vehicles — from maneuverable cars with melee weapons to artillery, armed with “Mandrakes”.

Various approaches can be used in creating the initial concept of the map. The approach that is most commonly used and convenient for a level designer is creating a concept out of a gameplay idea. Whether it’s a system of interactive objects (as in the “Ravagers foothold”) or a certain designer’s technique for creating a map (the radial scheme used in “Crater” or the eight-shaped layout of “Bridge”). With this approach, the designer faces an understandable and clear task with a minimum of restrictions for its implementation — to create a map layout, the main feature or element of which is the idea itself.

However, there are other options too. For example, if we want to make a map in a particular visual design, the map’s layout is created taking this into account. This means that the resulting layout must be implemented in a predetermined environment and has to work according to its rules. For example, if the map is intended to be the place of a meteor crash, it must have a crater, which, in turn, must be correctly implemented in the gameplay model.

It’s worth noting that the two approaches described are just an example, and we don’t always fully stick to just one of them. While creating “Sinto city” we used a sort of symbiosis of these two techniques.

When choosing the theme of the story, that is, the setting of the map, we had no doubts — the Syndicate has loudly asserted itself in the Valley, and “Sinto city” expands his story. Neon illumination that is still working, characteristic buildings and other visual features of the map — all this clearly indicates that this territory belongs to the “dragons”.

In addition, we had a huge desire to tell more about the world of Crossout, and this time we decided to focus on its past. We see the consequences of the disaster in many locations, but the landscape there is too severely changed because of the constant battles. With the appearance of the Syndicate, we had the opportunity to introduce the locations that survivors hadn’t reached before during fierce battles for resources. This is how “East quarter” and our “Sinto city” were created — the cradle of the corporation, to which the members of the Syndicate once belonged, decided to take positions in their home place. The faction has accumulated interesting resources for the survivors in Sinto city, and there are rumors that something incredible is stored in the warehouse under the overpass.

But don’t forget that in addition to creative tasks, the development of a map also sets a number of applied tasks. The main challenge for us was to make this map unique, but at the same time comfortable for all types of armoured vehicles. We wanted to do something that will be interesting for everyone, and so that there are no players who would be disappointed, because their favorite gameplay variation is too difficult to be used in “Sinto city”.

A separate and very important task was the blocking of the direct path from the respawn point of one team to the respawn point of another. The need for this is motivated by our desire to avoid the traditional motion of the vehicles in circles, but in such a way that the outskirts of the map are still useful and have their own points of interest.

Temporary brawl “Slaughter”

Attention! The brawl will be available from September 3, 07:00 GMT, until September 19 inclusive!

Rules and features:
  • “Slaughter” is a team PvP-brawl based on the “Team deathmatch” rules.
  • Battles are held in the “6 vs 6” format.
  • Vehicles from 5000 to 6000 PS can take part in the battle.
  • Vehicles with explosives (spears), fuel barrels,tanks and / or with a Tusk cabin cannot participate in this brawl.
  • It is impossible to enter the mode as part of a group.
  • Goal: your whole team must score 5000 points faster than the opposing team.
    • Each player accumulates points for destroying parts and armoured vehicles of opponents. The points of the players within the same team are added to the team score.
    • If the required number of points is not scored within the allotted time, the victory is awarded to the team with the bigger amount of points.
    • If the score is equal when the time is up then a draw is announced.
  • Players of the same team appear on the map in random places, but always see allies on the radar.
  • The brawl has respawns: after being destroyed, your armoured car will reappear on the battlefield after some time.
  • Battles are held on the following maps:
    • “Abandoned town”;
    • “Ravagers foothold”;
    • “Chemical plant”.
  • The self-destruction mechanic has been improved specifically for this mode: in the “Slaughter” brawl you can self-destruct only after the weapons or most of the movement parts are lost.
  • A weekly challenge to reach the winning places in brawls can be completed in “Slaughter”. The first 4 places in terms of points scored in the winning team are considered to be the “winning places”.

Special challenges

As long as the “Slaughter” brawl is active, special challenges will be available to you every day:
  • Destroy 400 parts in the “Slaughter” brawl.
  • Destroy 600 parts in the “Slaughter” brawl.
Please note:
  • The second challenge becomes available only after the first one is completed. The progress of completing the first challenge doesn’t affect the progress of completing the second.
  • If you haven’t completed the challenge in a day, then the progress of its completion is carried over to the next day.
Rewards

For completing daily challenges, you receive Engineer badges, which you can then exchange for the resources, structural parts or containers you need:
  • For completing the first challenge, you will receive 40 badges.
  • For completing the second challenge, you will receive 80 badges.

Jiangshi has a frightening reputation even by the Syndicate standards. Like the walking dead from Chinese folklore, whose name he bears, this killer cyborg knows no pity, no mercy, no compassion, and can only bring death and destruction. Crosscrowns

Crosscrowns is a new currency for survivors on PC and PlayStation, well established on Xbox consoles. With this currency on all platforms, we will be able to update the range of cosmetic items in the in-game store more often, including the anticipated CKs for weapons and other items.

The first offers for the cosmetic items which can be purchased with crosscrowns are already available in the in-game store in the “Customization” tab, and in the future their range will be expanded with new temporary and permanent offers for CK, decor, paints, stickers, range objects, etc.

Important information:
  • Crosscrowns can be purchased from the Official Gaijin Store (PC) or the Official PlayStation Store (PS4 and PS5).

Minelayer “Kapkan”

Mine durability reduced by 25%.

Developer comment: Thanks to this change, it will be easier to get free of the activated “Kapkan” mine or destroy it in advance.

Crossbow “Phoenix”

Projectile speed increased by 35%.

Developer comment: Now “Phoenix” will become easier to use at medium or long range.

Shotgun “Thunderbolt”
  • Now to increase the weapon’s damage, you need to drive 30 m, instead of 40.
  • Now the perk increases the damage by 33%, instead of 25%.
  • Now the perk’s effect stacks up to 3 times instead of 4.
  • Damage reduced by 8%.
Developer comment: “Thunderbolt” shotgun’s damage was too high for its PS level. The enhancement of its perk is intended to encourage players who actively maneuver around the target.

Drone “Yaoguai”

Time before the drone starts attacking is reduced by 50%.

Developer comment: This change will simplify the use of the drone in battle.

Grenade launcher “Thresher”
  • Ammunition increased by 53% (115 pcs. instead of 75).
  • Projectile speed increased by 13%.
Developer comment: Increasing the base ammunition will reduce the dependence of an armoured vehicle with “Thresher” on ammo modules, increasing its chances of survival. Projectile flight speed is increased to simplify the game at mid-range, using the weapon’s perk.

Crossbow “Spike-1”

The physical size of the projectile has been reduced by 75%.

Developer comment: Thanks to this change, the weapon’s projectile will be more likely to hit parts deep in the target’s structure, with less probability of “catching” protruding parts.

Cabin “Omnibox”
  • Reduced the effect of mass on the acceleration of the car.
  • The power bonus from the perk is reduced from 50% to 20%.
  • Now the mode switching time is 1.25 seconds (instead of 1.75 seconds).
Developer comment: The changes are intended to reduce the effectiveness of super maneuverable armoured vehicles with an “Omnibox” cabin. Switching time between its modes is reduced to allow players to respond to changes in the combat situation with greater convenience.

Cabin “Ghost”

Bonus damage from the perk increased from 1.5% to 2.5%.

Developer comment: As you know, we are currently reworking the visual model of the “Ghost” to make the cabin more convenient for use. Meanwhile, while this reworking is in progress, we are enhancing the cabin’s perk.

Cabin “Aggressor”

Now the charge accumulates for every 25 meters passed (instead of 30).

Developer comment: The enhancement of the cabin’s perk is designed to simplify its use in combat.

Defence module “Argus”

Now the module’s cooldown is 14 sec. (instead of 17 sec. before).

Developer comment: The change is intended to increase the efficiency and popularity of the module.

Rolling-based movement part “Omni”

Now the penalty to the movement part’s power is 12% (instead of 16% earlier).

Developer comment: This change will increase the mobility of armoured vehicles with this movement part.

Auger “Meat Grinder”

Now the penalty to the movement part’s power is 28% (instead of 35% before).
Improved surface grip.

Hover “Icarus VII”

PS increased from 420 to 480.

Developer comment: “Icarus Vll” is too effective at relatively low levels of PS, and this change is intended to fix this.

Legendary parts

Crossbow “Toadfish”

The physical size of the projectile has been reduced by 75%.

Plasma gun “Pulsar”

The blast radius from the perk now increases by 0.28 m (instead of 0.25 m earlier).

Grenade launcher “Retcher”
  • The pulse from blast radius is reduced by 20%.
  • Damage reduced by 10%.
  • Now the bonus from the perk is 230% (instead of 200% earlier).
Developer comment: The reduction of damage and impulse from the projectile explosion is intended to reduce the effectiveness of firing from the “Retcher” at close range. The damage remained the same when firing at a distance of 30-40 meters.

Cabin “Machinist”
  • Now for every 1000 pts. of durability, the durability of the weapon mounted on the cabin increases by 8% (instead of 5% earlier).
  • The maximum bonus is now 25% (instead of 20% earlier).

There was still a disgusting smell of burnt flesh, mixed with the stench of melted metal and burnt rubber over the remains of the destroyed convoy. Looking at the remains of the destroyed cars, Ochre pulled her hood deeper on her head and shievered, even though the sun was burning mercilessly from the cloudless skies. As she sat down beside one of the cars, she carefully ran her gloved fingers along the edges of the huge breach in the hull, trying to ignore what was left of the driver and passengers.

— Yes, without a doubt, it’s the work of energy weapons again… The metal... melted and leaked in a certain way, puncturing holes.

Muttering to herself, the woman was gathering information in equal measure and trying to distract herself from all the horror of the picture of devastation that had forced her and Foxy to cancel their journey home. Thinking about the reasons for stopping the ship, she involuntarily turned her thoughts on what her friend was doing at the moment.

— Ochre! Ochre! There’s a survivor! Help me, quick!

Hearing this scream, the Seeker jumped up and rushed from the place so quickly that the hood flew off her head, and the dark braids spread out in all directions. Raising clouds of dust with her boots and trying not to get caught on any debris, Ochre slid between the car wrecks and finally found Foxy... trying to pull a man who was bleeding and grunting from under an overturned vehicle. After a quick exchange of glances, they joined forces and were able to free the wounded from the iron trap. The pile of metal settled on the ground with a terrible rumble.

It was enough for Ochre to take one look at the clothes of the rescued man, pierced with bullets in many places and smeared with soot and blood, and his face white as a sheet of paper, to know that he is not going to make it. Foxy began to scour her waist in search of the first aid kit, but her partner’s negative gesture made her realize that it was futile. The girl kicked one of the destroyed cars with anger and turned away, stroking the invisible rat sitting on her shoulder and trying to calm down. Ochre sat down next to the wounded and looked him straight in the eyes.

— What happened here, fighter? You were ambushed by the Ravagers?

The man, having heard the question, tried to focus his gaze on the Seeker’s face, and then suddenly laughed. His laughter almost immediately turned into a tearing cough, and blood spurted from his mouth onto his already soiled clothes.

— Ambushed? It wasn’t an ambush... The iron beasts came at us so quickly, and there were so many of them... And there were cars of these... Syndicate. But… something... strange about them…

The speech of the wounded became more and more incoherent. Ochre unfastened the flask with water from her belt and, unscrewing the cap, brought the neck to the man’s lips. He took a few greedy sips and coughed again.

— There was no ambush, girl. They were just... going about their business... and then we turned up. And they, they didn’t… stop… crushed us like flies…

With each word, the man’s voice weakened until it became completely silent. His head fell on his chest and blood gushed from the corners of his mouth, which was frozen in a grim smile. Ochre twisted her shoulders and gently slid her hand over the face of the deceased, lowering her eyelids to the eyes that had stopped seeing anything.

— May the Supreme Explorer accept you, survivor... We’ll get revenge. I promise.

The prayer was interrupted by Foxy’s gloomy voice:

— So now what? It’s easy to promise, but what are we going to do?

The Seeker turned to her partner and, frowning, circled the carnage around her with her hand.

— For both the Syndicate and Lloyd, we are nothing more than insects. Some of them study us, tingle us on pins and expand their collections, while others simply crush us when we get under their feet. And it won’t end until the survivors fight back — together. I don’t know what we’re going to do. But we have to do something, or soon the whole Valley will look like this.
Ochre waved her hand in anger and turned away from the corpse that had just been a living person, whose hopes and desires — like so many others — had been ruthlessly destroyed by indifferent machines.

— We’re going back to the ship. We saw everything we could here.

There was a surprise waiting for the girls on the bridge — a flashing signal of an incoming call. Looking at Foxy, Ochre pressed the response button — and flinched, hearing Cash’s distorted, but recognizable voice.

— Seeker... <bzzz> I dug up something useful from the insides of an iron creature. I… <bzzz> ... their communication channel. Tell your people — Ravagers are... <bzzz> ... an attack on the Ashen Ring. There are… <bzzz> …as many as... fleas on a Wasteland dog. Your order is neutral, even the craziest... <bzzz> ... will believe you.

The old hunter’s voice completely dissipated among the interference. And Ochre turned to Foxy in shock, stunned, frozen with a hand reaching out to pet Bunny.

— That’s where the Ravagers are rushing to! We’ll have to split up. We must immediately notify the survivors — and, most importantly, the Engineers! They contacted you just recently about fixing your car, right? I’ll drop you off at the rendezvous point, and you’ll switch to your armoured car there. And I’ll be on my way to the Order. I have no right to decide such matters by myself.

Foxy tried to say a word, but the Seeker didn’t even let her open her mouth, cutting the air firmly with her hand.

— We must act neutral, but the Engineers can act, and they can act now! Tell them everything we’ve learned about the Ravagers, the Syndicate’s treachery,about how great the threat is. And… Yes, give them this!

Without giving Foxy or, most importantly, herself any time to reflect and change her mind, Ochre poked the flash drive into the hands of her partner, which she took reflexively.

— This is all the data Cash has gathered on the Ravagers. It includes the coordinates of their base — if there’s a place where you can find the missing parts of the puzzle, then it’s there. I hope this is enough.

Foxy shook her head and sadly grinned.

— I knew that you would find an excuse to evade the drinks in the “Keyhole”. Aren’t you going to get in trouble for that? You Seekers seem to have no right to interfere with the matters of other survivors, and this is exactly what you’re doing…

Ochre only laughed in response, but tried not to look her friend in the eyes.

— Don’t worry, I just passed the information of one survivor to another survivor. And who will know about this? You and I are going to celebrate the happy end of this story!

Time before the drone starts attacking is reduced by 50%.

Developer comment: This change will simplify the use of the drone in battle.

Grenade launcher “Thresher”
  • Ammunition increased by 53% (115 pcs. instead of 75).
  • Projectile speed increased by 13%.
Developer comment: Increasing the base ammunition will reduce the dependence of an armoured vehicle with “Thresher” on ammo modules, increasing its chances of survival. Projectile flight speed is increased to simplify the game at mid-range, using the weapon’s perk.

Crossbow “Spike-1”

The physical size of the projectile has been reduced by 75%.

Developer comment: Thanks to this change, the weapon’s projectile will be more likely to hit parts deep in the target’s structure, with less probability of “catching” protruding parts.

Cabin “Omnibox”
  • Reduced the effect of mass on the acceleration of the car.
  • The power bonus from the perk is reduced from 50% to 20%.
  • Now the mode switching time is 1.25 seconds (instead of 1.75 seconds).
Developer comment: The changes are intended to reduce the effectiveness of super maneuverable armoured vehicles with an “Omnibox” cabin. Switching time between its modes is reduced to allow players to respond to changes in the combat situation with greater convenience.

Cabin “Ghost”

Bonus damage from the perk increased from 1.5% to 2.5%.

Developer comment: As you know, we are currently reworking the visual model of the “Ghost” to make the cabin more convenient for use. Meanwhile, while this reworking is in progress, we are enhancing the cabin’s perk.

Cabin “Aggressor”

Now the charge accumulates for every 25 meters passed (instead of 30).

Developer comment: The enhancement of the cabin’s perk is designed to simplify its use in combat.

Defence module “Argus”

Now the module’s cooldown is 14 sec. (instead of 17 sec. before).

Developer comment: The change is intended to increase the efficiency and popularity of the module.

Rolling-based movement part “Omni”

Now the penalty to the movement part’s power is 12% (instead of 16% earlier).

Developer comment: This change will increase the mobility of armoured vehicles with this movement part.

Auger “Meat Grinder”
  • Now the penalty to the movement part’s power is 28% (instead of 35% before).
  • Improved surface grip.
Developer comment: This change will increase the mobility of armoured vehicles with this movement part.

Hover “Icarus VII”

PS increased from 420 to 480.

Developer comment: “Icarus Vll” is too effective at relatively low levels of PS, and this change is intended to fix this.

Legendary parts

Crossbow “Toadfish”

The physical size of the projectile has been reduced by 75%.

Developer comment: Thanks to this change, the weapon’s projectile will be more likely to hit parts deep in the target’s structure, with less probability of “catching” protruding parts.

Plasma gun “Pulsar”

The blast radius from the perk now increases by 0.28 m (instead of 0.25 m earlier).

Developer comment: The enhancement of this perk is intended to encourage players who skillfully use it.

Grenade launcher “Retcher”
  • The pulse from blast radius is reduced by 20%.
  • Damage reduced by 10%.
  • Now the bonus from the perk is 230% (instead of 200% earlier).
Developer comment: The reduction of damage and impulse from the projectile explosion is intended to reduce the effectiveness of firing from the “Retcher” at close range. The damage remained the same when firing at a distance of 30-40 meters.

Cabin “Machinist”
  • Now for every 1000 pts. of durability, the durability of the weapon mounted on the cabin increases by 8% (instead of 5% earlier).
  • The maximum bonus is now 25% (instead of 20% earlier).
Developer comment: With this change, we want to increase the efficiency of the cabin.

Hello, survivors!

In the next update, which will be released later this month, we plan to add a new currency — crosscrowns — to the PC and PlayStation versions of the game. If you don’t know what it is yet, let’s figure it out together.

So, crosscrowns is a new currency for survivors on PC and PlayStation, well established on Xbox consoles. With this currency on all platforms, we will be able to update the range of cosmetic items in the in-game store more often, including the anticipated CKs for weapons and other parts. Let’s not dive into the details of the appearance of new products on the platforms — let’s just say that the process will be much simpler and faster.

Players from PlayStation and PC will only be able to purchase crosscrowns in Gaijin store (PC) or PlayStation store (PS4 and PS5).

With the introduction of a new currency, the in-game coins and premium subscriptions will also be purchased with crosscrowns in the in-game store. It’s important to note that only the mechanics of purchasing subscriptions or coins will change for you. Prices for one day of premium subscription or one coin will not undergo substantial changes. And the users from PlayStation will also have a long-awaited opportunity to purchase different premium subscription options, not just a 30-day subscription.

Trading on the market will continue to be performed using in-game coins, no changes in this regard are expected. Crosscrowns will not be used in the in-game market.

The in-game store’s assortment is planned to be updated weekly. The store will present both permanent items and temporary offers for CK, portraits, paints, range objects, decor, etc.

If you miss one of the temporary offers, don’t worry. The item will definitely be returned to the store in the future.
