The Coalition of Galactic Scientists (CoGS)—a group of scientists from both factions who believe the search for the missing Eldan is too important to let a galactic conflict get in the way—are looking to further their research into Sim-Cores. These holographic simulations left behind by the Eldan not only allow adventurers to experience simulated stories, but could offer clues as to the disappearance of the Eldan. To this end, the CoGS are offering rewards for anyone who can complete Sim-Core simulations (widely known as Adventures).

By completing Adventures during Sim-Chase you’ll earn Hardlight Shards—solid pieces of data extracted from Sim-Cores—and trade them to Exchanger Krova for CoGS Sim-Cards. And CoGS Sim-Cards aren’t just for show, there are those in CoGS who need them to further their own research, and are willing to trade rare cases for them. Trader Jonjo can be found in the capital cities to trade your CoGS Sim-Cards for rare housing plot décor pieces.

Of course good ol’ NCoin or OmniBits can get you CoGS Sim-Cards in bundles from the In-Game Store, as well as two unique cases only available during select times of the event, which may contain a vast array of different and incredible items.

What’s New

The Sim-Chase is live now and ends at 10am PDT on August 29.

This time around the Coalition of Galactic Scientists has pooled its resources and is offering a ton of new rewards from the Shrine and Exo-Lab cases for helping them further their research. While the music tracks and skyboxes remain unchanged, the Caretaker NPC has been swapped out for a Security Avatar, you can now earn flasks from the cases, as well as different pets, new housing décor, new iconic NPC décor, and an awesome new mount. Sim-tastic!

Shrine Case

Available on the In-Game Store August 19–22 & August 25–29

Each case is guaranteed to drop a random amount of a random currency (gold, Service Tokens, etc.) in addition to 1 random item from its item pool:
  • A piece from the new Shrine décor set
  • Corrigan Doon NPC décor
  • Misc. NPC décor
  • Sim-Piranha (pet)
  • Sky Remodel: Nightmare of Avatus (Red)
  • Housing Plot music track "Darkness of the Mind"
  • Security Avatar décor piece
  • Hardlight Trask (mount)
  • A 3hr Flask of Riches, Advancement, or R&R

Exo-Lab Case

Available on the In-Game Store August 22–29

Each case is guaranteed to drop a random amount of a random currency (gold, Service Tokens, etc.) in addition to 1 random item from its item pool:
  • A piece from the new Exo-Lab décor set
  • Judge Kain NPC décor
  • Misc. NPC décor
  • Sim-Cubig (pet)
  • Housing Plot music track "Beyond the Emerald Glow"
  • Sky Remodel: Caretaker's Dream (Green)

  • A 3hr Flask of Riches, Advancement, or R&R

On August 22 at 10am PDT both cases will be available until the end of the event on August 29, at 10am PDT.

The story of the Redmoon Terror ship and its crew is a long and sordid one, but now looming above Nexus the great pirate ship has returned, and with new threats levied upon those on the planet below. Catch up and be ready to take on the Redmoon Terror—and its pirate crew—with this brief story synopsis.
Laveka the Dark Hearted began her crusade of evil as a humble apprentice to Bloodshaman Akilos in Deradune. Using her wiles to manipulate her master, Laveka unlocked the secrets of the Dark Rites – forbidden rituals used to harness the power of death in direct opposition to the sacred Blood Covenants. Once her path to power had been revealed, Laveka continued her quest to perfect and increase her necromantic abilities.
Akilos sent Draken blood hunters to kill Laveka, but she cleverly avoided their traps. That is, until the Marauders of the Redmoon Terror found her adrift in the Halon Ring. Brought before their bloodthirsty captain, Mordechai Redmoon, the budding necroshaman offered her considerable power in exchange for a spot aboard his ship. Witnessing the effects of Laveka’s necromancy first-hand, Mordechai agreed and allowed her to join his crew.

To further increase her abilities, Laveka required the Mask of Mog Mog located on Skullcano Island. She whispered her dark desires to Mordechai, who eagerly set his course to match that of his new-found paramour. The Redmoon Marauders, driven by their ruthless captain and the prospect of untold riches, descended upon Skullcano Island like a flock of vulcarrion. Although Laveka escaped the island with her coveted mask, Mordechai met his death within the bowels of Skullcano.

Using the force of her own considerable will and terrible threats of necromantic sorcery, Laveka has kept the remaining Redmoon in line. Rumors throughout the Halon Ring, as well as within various Marauder camps on Nexus, indicate that the Redmoon are near to electing a new captain to lead them. Who can this dread captain be? And why do the Redmoon Marauders invite their long-time foes, the Deadstar and Grimvoid Marauders, to a great parley? Only time will tell... hopefully before it’s too late!

It’s never too late to become one of the WildStar crew and play now—it’s totally free!

WildStar - Conguero

Hi, I’m Chris Arnold and I’m the Art Manager on WildStar. With the Redmoon Rising update coming up—and the first wing of the Redmoon Terror raid—I wanted to show off a bit of a behind-the-scenes look into our art process when we created some of the characters and locations you’ll be visiting.

Character Development

The first step we take when developing any new visual idea (characters or locations) is exploring what we call the “blue sky” phase. We call it “blue sky” because in this stage we may not really know for sure what direction we want to go with a concept, so “the sky’s the limit.”

Laveka Pre-vis Sketching

The more important the character, the more emphasis we usually put on exploring visual concepts. We usually push the look a bit more during this stage and focus on iteration and variation to be sure we’ve explored a sufficient number of options. In this sheet you can see an early concept of Laveka along with many possible iterations of her Mask of Mog Mog.

Design Note: After we explore the “blue sky” stage of visual development, we zero in on what particular ideas we like, and refine them into the bounds and requirements of an actual production environment. During this stage we finalize what we call production concepts, and generate drawings that define all of the possible variables that an artist would need to know to create the actual art assets.

Laveka Production

This image shows how we took the ideas from the earlier sketch and translated them into a concept of how we would create her actual model. From this concept, the character artist was able to go on to create her 3D model.

Design Note: The undead army that Laveka recruits comes from a unique combination of voodoo magic themes and pirate marauders. To create cohesion throughout the story, we chose to tie all of the undead monsters together with a mysterious bluish tone. This helps distinguish the creatures from their original forms, as well as give rationale for the eerie existence.

Mordechai Redmoon Production

For Mordechai Redmoon, we needed to take an established character and evolve his aesthetic into something new and different. In this story, he is resurrected from the dead using the magic of Laveka. When designing his new form, we wanted to be sure to convey the undead elements and tribal magical themes seen throughout Laveka’s magical conquests.

Robomination

Robomination is an example of a boss that required thinking outside the box a bit. The idea of a trash compactor got our creative juices flowing, and these images show some good examples of the creative process at work. You can see some of the early versions of Robomination that we didn’t end up using. Alongside the final concept you can also see some of the breakdowns and callouts that are required to describe the finer details of movement and construction.

Environment Development

Redmoon Terror Layout Design

The design of an environment goes through many stages of iteration before reaching the final polished version. The earliest phase involves fleshing out the space on paper. As you can see in this image, first we get a good sense of the proportion of play spaces in relation to each other, and how many encounters there will be in them. After we’re happy with the paper map we flesh out the entire space in “graybox”. This is a very primitive 3D version of the whole level that we can use to hone in on the right scale and feel of the level, before we start making any finished artwork. A lot of changes can take place during this vital stage.

Redmoon Terror Pre-vis Sketching

After we’ve achieved a good idea of what spaces we’re making through iteration of paper maps and layout of a graybox environment, we begin a pre-visualization phase of concepting. In this phase we’re not confining ourselves too much to any pre-conceived notions of what a space should look like. We’re mostly interested in exploring how we can express the ideas sought after by the design team, along with the established themes of story and setting.

Design Note: For Redmoon Terror you can see by the artwork that we were mostly interested in the pirate themes of the Marauders in WildStar. We really wanted to push the fun, swashbuckling motifs of pirate ships and bring them into the ramshackle world of a gritty sci-fi spaceship.

Redmoon Terror Production

At the final stage of environment design we do production concepts. These concepts are meant to take what we’ve learned from the creation of our graybox map and combine them with our pre-vis exploration drawings. In this phase, we focus on being specific about defining as close as possible what the final space should look like. The 3D artists will take these drawings and build the environment to the specifications of the concepts, while adhering to the framework defined by the earlier graybox spaces.

That’s an extremely quick overview of the art process for characters and environments for pretty much everything we work on, but specifically the upcoming Redmoon Terror wing. We’ve put a lot of time and passion into getting this raid ready for primetime, and we hope you’re as excited as we are to pillage the ship’s booty on August 17!

Madame Fay has been following all the latest trends, and she’s pretty sure she understands what’s popular: old stuff. She’s packed her Fortunes full of throwbacks, and is offering some truly incredible rewards. While she’s still giving out some of the standard stuff—like OmniBits and Service Tokens—this is otherwise a complete overhaul of the prizes she offers.

If you’re looking to get any of her remaining inventory, be sure to get what you can before August 17 when the Redmoon Rising update goes live. After that she’ll only be offering her new retro-inspired fortunes.

Let’s take a look!

Mounts for Gold

New with this Madame Fay update is the ability to turn in one of each of the three mount color variations she offers for the rarest-of-the-rare gold version—normally obtainable only as a super-rare Fortune drop. Through alchemical reactions you shouldn’t ask any questions about, you can purchase a Retrosaur Gilding Catalyst for 1 gold from the Madame Fay Far-Traders found in Illium and Thayd. Using the Gilding Catalyst will then consume the three mounts and spit out a shiny golden version (again, best to not ask too many questions). We currently expect this golden mount exchange to continue forward with future Fortune mounts.

Fortune Coins are purchased directly from the In-Game Store, and can be redeemed for Madame Fay Fortunes, which can include a wide variety of items, décor, mounts, currencies, and consumables. Hit your ‘N’ key to bring up the In-Game Store.

They're the biggest of the baddest, and the baddest of the biggest. They're world bosses, and it's time somebody took 'em down!

From August 12 at 2:01am PST until 11:59pm PST on August 15, get extra rewards every time you or your party slay a world boss or legendary champion.

World bosses allow groups of players to take on formidable foes for high-end rewards, but you don’t have to be in a coordinated raid to jump in. Anyone can attack a world boss and reap the rewards, so head out and start hunting. Our world bosses article can help in tracking them down.

During the Boss Hunter Challenge, every time you or your party slays a world boss or legendary champion, they have a guaranteed chance to drop a Shiny Token. You can then turn it in, along with a lockbox key purchasable from the In-Game Store for NCoin or OmniBits, at a vendor in your capital city. Normal creatures you find in the outdoors of Nexus have a small chance to drop a Shiny Token as well, so it’ll pay to get some other questing done during the event, too.

But you don’t have to stop at just one boss; you can continually kill each of the world bosses if you have the Progenitor Access Particles needed to respawn them. And lucky for you the number of Progenitor Access Particles needed is lower during the Boss Hunter Challenge as well. Legendary champions will be spawning much quicker during this event too.

When in doubt, get out there and hunt down a world boss!

Show ‘Em What They Can Win

Head over to your faction’s capital city to turn in your Shiny Tokens. For Exiles go to Titian Nepian in Academy Corner of Thayd, or in Illium as Dominion go to Nate Baydock in Spaceport Alpha. You can turn in a Shiny Token along with a lockbox key for a Lucky Lopp Lockbox, which has a chance to contain some awesome goodies:
  • New! King Plush décor
  • New! Metal Maw Prime décor
  • New! Mini Maw Pet
  • New! 24 ‘Carrots’ Toy
  • Veggie Launcher Toy
  • Garden Green Dye
  • Lopp Hunter Pet
  • Lopp Grinder Mount
  • And More!
So, dust off your bandoliers and get ready for some sporting-good fun! But hurry, the hunt is only here for a short time. Get into WildStar now, for free, and let the challenge begin!
...
