In the last update, together with good features, some nasty bugs sneaked in the game :( The whole weekend and the start of this week we worked on fixing the bugs. Thanks to everyone for the reports, crash files and screenshots with detailed descriptions. It really helped.
As there were many bugs with the visualization of the specialization xp, we decided to improve this system overall. Earlier, the specialization xp animation blocked all following actions. So while the numbers were flying, you couldn't do anything in the match. The pause wasn't big, but still, it decreased the match dynamics.
Now, we made this animation working parallelly to the animations of the actions. So no unnecessary pauses in the game. And so we were able to make the numbers fly longer and to be more noticeable.
Here are other things we improved:
Balance
- The probability of injuries is increased a bit. After the update #10, it was too high. So in few days after that, we decreased it significantly. And now I see that it was decreased too high. - Now, the speeding up the skills for fame works correctly. You won't be able to speed up a skill for 0 fame :)
Graphics
- Now, the animation of the specialization xp is slower, more visible and doesn't block all other animations - Now, the diameters of the passes at winter is blue
Bugs
- After promoting or relegating, there was a bug which randomly changed the rating of the teams. It affected the cup tournaments to have wrong calculations. Fixed - The substitutions after injuries were broken. Fixed. - After a free Tackle, the goalkeepers were able to make one more action for free. Fixed. - Now, the booked footballers earn the xp proportionate to the playing time. - Now, the footballers won't earn the specialization xp of not an appropriate class (for example, CDs won't earn CF class xp). - Fixed the bugs which affected the specialization xp wasn't shown in some situations or showed the sum of the previously earned xp. - The specialization xp wasn't given on the last action of the matches. Fixed. - Fixed the transition of the specialization xp to the next match. - Fixed some of the situations where defending players didn't visually jump after unsuccessful interceptions of the crosses. - Fixed some of the situations where attacking players tried to finish the cross with the legs (instead of heads)

We were often asked why we do not release Football Tactics from Early Access. Because the game is already good. We answered: “We don’t want Football Tactics to be a good game, we want it to be a great one”.
The newly released Update 10 is proof of our ambitions and a huge step towards making the game great.
Update #10 makes the matches significantly more tactical!
In the previous version, after 40-80 hours you could understand the basic tactics that work in most cases, and use only them.
In the update, the variability of tactics is so diverse that you should prepare your team for each match. Because for any tactic there is a counter tactic.
From this article, you will learn about some key features which make the game much more fun.
1) New classes (roles on the pitch)
Previously, the game had 4 classes: forwards, midfielders, defenders, and goalkeepers. Each of these classes had its own characteristics.
However, over time, we saw that 4 classes do not create enough variety in tactics and the game as a whole. The flanks did not work, the players did not differ much from each other, some tactics were obviously universal.
Therefore, we went further and created a system of classes similar to real football, where players are responsible for some zones on a pitch. At the same time, we retained the idea that some players can be useful in the whole field, not only in their narrow zone. So there are 4 universal classes, 9 special classes, and 4 amateur classes.
Each class has its own unique abilities. For example, the Attacking midfielder may perform a false kick. The defender of the opponent seeks to intercept the 'kick' and leaves his position. As a result, you can use the open space for your attack.
Or let’s take a Sweeper. If he stands alone on the last line of defense, he automatically tends to take a position opposite the ball. This allows you to cover the main directions of the attack.
At the same time, you always have the opportunity to prevent the enemy from using his clever tactics, if you realize in advance that he plans to use it. There are always counter tactics to everything opponent can come with.
2) Upgrading the classes
In the previous version of Football Tactics, players received experience for playing in matches, raising their overall level. In the update, the footballers also have a separate specialization level. It determines the uniqueness of the player.
Footballers earn specialization experience depending on the zone they play. If you want to make a novice player a right forward, place it on the right flank of the attack. If after that you want to make him also a right midfielder - put him to play on the right flank in the middle of the field.
When a footballer has learned to play at his position, earning the specialization XP allows you to develop the player in the direction that is important for you.
For example, you can focus on learning skills, on increasing the attributes or on making the player to be fans’ favourite. When fans love the footballer, they are more interested in attending your matches, and the sponsors are ready to pay more for fulfilling their conditions.
In the screenshot below, the sponsors increased payments by as much as 20% due to the fact that your team has 4 fan favourites.
Such (RPGish) leveling gives you the opportunity to plan ahead the development of your club. With some players, you will score goals, and with some - attract fans and sponsors.
By the way, the specialization screen is an example of how we plan to remake our entire interface by the release of the game from Early Access.
3) Headers, Crosses, and Flank play
As soon as we released the game in the Early Access, the players asked us to add the head play. For a long time, we worked out how it should work in the whole tactics, how to make it a full-fledged part of the game. Initially, we thought it’s enough if the head play is a part of the lofted passes.
But over time, we realized that it's not enough. It should be a part of something bigger. In real life, a good performance on the wings is important for successful headers. After all, the ball flies to the attackers from the flanks.
Therefore, we postponed the implementation of the head play until we decide how to implement the flank play. And the flank play was postponed until we decide how to implement the new classes. And after we saw the whole picture of how classes should work, the puzzle was solved - we understood, how to implement both flank and head play. Such was a long way of head play from idea to implementation.
I want to recall you that in order to perform a cross, a footballer with the ball should stand in one of the four corner tiles on the opponent’s side. Teammates having the Head play talent can be positioned in the opponent’s penalty area, or in rows two and three opposite the penalty area. When all the conditions for availability are met, select the footballer with the ball and a tile on the opposite side of the goal will be highlighted. Click on that tile to perform a cross. Also, you can perform crosses from the corners.
4) Footballpedia
Football Tactics - might not look like a serious game. But inside, there are a lot of hidden mechanics which start to live when you start a new campaign.
So if earlier we could limit ourselves to dozens of coach’s notes, in the new update, the amount of information that would be useful to take into account overstepped the limits of the “not so serious” game.
Therefore, we have added footballpedia which explains practically all aspects: what are abilities of each class, what you need to know about each game action, the details of performing the skills, how the players' transfer value is formed, what hidden characteristics of footballers there are, etc.
We also advise everyone, including veterans of the previous version of Football Tactics, to play the game with the 'Tutorial' option enabled. You will receive information from the old coach who will try to get acquainted you with all the main features of the game.
5) Updated messages and your assistants
You are the central hero of the game. You are a football manager who leads the team to the top of the world football due to your brilliant mind.
But apart from you, there are other characters in the football world: your assistants, the president of the club. Previously, they were hidden behind abstract-looking messages. Therefore, you had to force yourself to believe in the game world.
In this update, finally, you get to know the characters closer. Now, each message contains the date, subject, name, and photo of the sender.
And while your assistants’ role is only to inform you about your progress and the situation in your team, the president of the club and the old coach show more character and attitude towards you in the letters.
If you wanted to see their faces closer - you have a chance to do it now ;)
6) New way to train skills
Remember, how you wondered, why there is no choice in the skills learning window? Now there it is! Moreover, this choice is interesting. Footballers have different affinities to different skills, so you have to decide if you want to learn any skill as fast as possible or maybe take some time for more important skill.
7) Quality of life features
We always try to make the game more pleasant and comfortable for players. We watch the let's plays on Youtube, read your feedback and try to understand where you have the biggest difficulties.
In this update, we added one of the most anticipated features to improve the comfort in the game - it is the opponent viewing screen.
Remember how you had to go to the opponent's screen before and turn his team upside down in your imagination to understand how to better build your tactics. Now, you can study the enemy in details and prepare the optimal tactics for the next match in comfort.
By the way, tactical icons also appeared only in this update. They make it easy to understand the positioning of every class.
Another big step forward is 3D arrows for lofted passes and visualization of the diameters for all types of passes.
Many times we have seen how players don’t understand why the lofted pass is accessible, but the pass is not. Now you can see the distances for all kinds of passes.
8) Other changes
There are a lot of other improvements that I would like to tell you about. It’s the opportunity to start the game directly from Premier League, and the possibility to customize every detail of the footballers in the editor, and many fixed bugs, and greatly improved AI, and really hard difficulty mode, and the ability to kick out the ball, and the opportunity to throw it in :)

Possibility to edit any footballers’ detail. Now, in the Leagues editor, you can edit not only the names and faces. Now every footballer’s detail as available for editing: attributes, levels, skills, classes etc. Together with previous point (Higher leagues), it allows to create realistic leagues and play them directly along with the other top clubs.
Active development of the opponents. Now, the opposing teams won’t just stay and watch how you develop and get stronger. They also actively develop, earn XP in the matches, train skills, get the new footballers etc.
High Difficulty mode. Earlier, it was Hard Start mode. However now, the game will be hard not only at the start of the campaign. All costs in the game are increased and other teams get 2x XP comparing to default campaign.
17 new achievements. New mechanics which appeared in this update, are represented in the new achievements.

Added inner tabs in the management. It will allow you to easier manage the new possibilities.
Added the “Opponent” screen which allows you to compare your tactics to the formation of the opponent. Now you don’t have to rotate the opponent’s formation in your imagination :) The preparation to the next match became more tactical.
Added the visual calendar to the main screen. The calendar allows you to estimate how time passes between the matches.
Improved design of the pitch in the management screens.

Added mini-pitches which allow you to quickly understand where the footballer stays on the pitch.
MATCH
Now, you can see the radius of all kinds of the passes.
Now, the ball can fly out of the pitch. Footballers learned to perform throw-ins.
Added 3D arrows for the lofted passes.
Added the new actions: Switch positions, Kick out, Break in, Cross, False Kick.
Significantly remade and improved AI.
Now the footballers earn the motivation with the same rate for any level. So weak players earn motivation as fast as powerful players.
Motivation in the home matches is earned twice as faster than in the away matches.
After kick off, the first action should be a pass or lofted pass.
Now, Pressing not only decreases the attributes of the opponent but also decreases the potential of the skills and doesn’t allow the opponent to move.
Increased the penalty to Accuracy for kicking from the big distances.
Now, Aggressive tackle gives +20 to Defence (used to be +15).
Now, the unsuccessful Aggressive tackle will always end up in a foul.
SKILLS AND TALENTS
The length of Layoff Pass is decreased from 4 to 3 tiles.
Now Cannon Kick can’t be used from the center of the pitch.
Now, Rainbow Feint can be used only on the neighbor tile (used to be 2 tiles).
Now, after performing Nutmeg, the footballer gets a bonus +10% to his Accuracy and Pass.
Now, Olympic Kick can be intercepted by the field players if they stay on the ball’s trajectory.
Added two new talents: Throw-ins and Head Play.
MANAGEMENT
Implemented the new mechanics of learning skills. Now, you can choose one from 3 available skills/talents. However, footballers have different affinity to every skill/talent available, so the speed of learning is different.
Removed the option “Penalty for other positions” because with the new class system doesn’t make sense anymore.
Now the best players in the matches are rewarded also for draws and loses.
Changed the cost of players on the transfers. In general, the prices are decreased. However, the high-level players became more expensive.
Decreased the speed of coming in/out the new fans depending on your success.
Completely rewrote the logic of setting the formation by the opponents. Now AI knows all strong sides of the classes and individual power of any player. And it uses this knowledge to prepare the formation.
The more the opponent is “afraid” of your team, the more defensive tactics it chooses.
GAME SETTINGS
Now, you can set up the sound in the match.
Added the separate option for the crowd’s sound.
Now, you can enable the music in the match.
Now, you can disable the kick-off animation in the match.
Added the antialiasing option.
Also, there is a huge amount of other less noticeable improvements and fixes which improve playing experience.
New mechanics of the classes (football roles). Now, there are the amateur, universal and special classes. Every class has its own special abilities. It makes the tactical part of the game much deeper and diverse.
Head play. Now, footballers can score headers after the crosses. Also, when you are going to perform a lofted pass to your teammate, you have to take into account where the opponents stay. Because they can fight in the air for the ball.
Development tree for footballers. Now, only you decide how to develop your players. Either throughout the skills, or attributes, or the beautiful play. Your decisions affect not only your players but your club’ development in general.
Footballpedia. Now, every game mechanics is described in the huge footballpedia. If you don’t understand how something works, just click on the help icon in the top right corner.
Narrative. Now, if you start the game in the tutorial, you will find out how you became a football manager of an amateur club. Further, in the game, you will get the emails from your assistants and other characters. Everyone has its own face and style of talking.
Start in the higher leagues. Now you don’t necessarily start in the Amateur league. You can start in your team’s league. Did you select the club from London? Welcome to Premier league.

Translating the game
On the course of development the game in the Early Access, some players helped us to translate Football Tactics to their native languages. And we very grateful to them.
But after few updates, some of the players weren’t able to find free time to translate the game. So we can’t support these languages.
However, if you want Football Tactics to be playable on your native language, and if you can help to translate it or you know people who would do it - write me, please. The translation process is very simple, you only have to know English and your native language.

So, if you know any streamers/youtubers (not necessarily popular) who would be able in the near time to record playing the campaign in the beta-version, give them my email. I’ll add them a free game key.
