In this latest edition of Designer’s Notes, we'll go into more detail about the balancing changes that’ll come with the Brutal Swarm Season Test Server and give you an insight into the reasons behind these changes.
BALANCING MATRIX AND TOP OPERATOR BANS
WIN DELTA VS. PRESENCE
Please note that we are using presence to gauge the popularity of an Operator. This notion had to be introduced to reflect the implementation of the pick & ban.
Presence definition: pick rate of an Operator when not banned. Win Delta: The Win Delta is aggregated from Operator’s Win Deltas per Bomb Site.
OPERATOR BAN RATE
WEAPON BALANCING WEAPON RECOIL
Weapon Recoil on Console will no longer follow changes made on PC and is unimpacted by the following changes.
Vertical recoil has been increased on all weapons and adjusted to their expected power level.
Increased overall recoil on:
All Assault Rifles
All SMGs
All LMGs
Machine Pistols
This is a universal change that we know is going to be contentious across the board as it hits nearly every single weapon in Siege. With that in mind, there are weapons in the game commonly described as "laser beams" due to a lack of recoil and recoil-controlling attachments at large being barely noticeable in some cases. We are confident that with the introduction of the Shooting Range as a place to get accustomed to the new recoil patterns, this change will help lay the ground for improved balancing potential for the future.
Adjustments have been made to the recoil not just on vertical intensity, but in some cases horizontal intensity as well. Weapons with high magazine capacity like LMGs will have the strongest vertical and lateral recoil after sustained fire.
Weapons with strong and weak recoil patterns, such as the R4C, 416-C, UMP45, C1, or M12 will keep very similar recoils. We have reviewed each weapon individually based on several different parameters such as Rate of Fire, Damage per second, and what operators use them.
WEAPON RECOIL ON CONSOLE
Softened overall recoil on:
M762
R4C
MX4
EVO-3 Scorpion
Increased overall recoil on:
6P41
LMG-E
G8A1
Spear .308
Population targeted by this change: All.
Overall, we wanted to improve the shooting experience on console. Thunderbird is currently one of the strongest defenders right now. Some of that strength comes from the fact that her main weapon is an ATK AR and we needed to reduce it’s killing potential.
RECOIL ATTACHMENTS
This is obviously a huge slew of attachment option improvements - the main drive of this change is to enable more customization and choices around how you use these weapons, while also normalizing the overall distribution of the available attachments. Think of our recent change to open up scope styles but extrapolated to other categories of attachments. These changes can be easily read as buffs, as no options are being taken away and any combos you've previously liked can still be done (apart from the Flash Hider on DMRs). We're hoping the greater selection, especially to help control recoil, will be used especially alongside other changes detailed in these notes.
COMPENSATOR
Population targeted by this change: All
We added the compensator to also normalize distribution. The goal is to give more tools to customize the recoil of the weapons.
Added the Compensator to the following weapons:
6P41 (Fuze, Finka)
M249 SAW (Gridlock)
FMG9 (Nokk, Smoke)
SPSMG9 (Kali, Clash)
MP5 (Doc, Rook, Melusi)
P90 (Doc, Rook)
C1 9mm (Frost)
M12 (Caveira)
FLASH HIDER Population targeted by this change:All
The Flash Hider just doesn’t make much sense for DMRs as the Muzzle Brake is consistently the better option. Newer DMRs have followed this logic so we are bring older ones in line.
The Flash Hider will be removed from the following DMRs:
417 (Twitch, Lion, Sens)
Ots-03 (Glaz)
CAMRS (Buck)
SR-25 (Blackbeard, Flores)
MK14 (Dokakebi)
Added Flash Hider to the following weapons:
C1 9mm (Frost)
MUZZLE BRAKE
Population targeted by this change: All
To help normalize distribution we added the Muzzle Break to these weapons to provide more options to customize the weapon recoil.
Added the Muzzle Brake to the following weapons:
6P41 (Fuze, Finka)
AUG A2 (IQ, Wamai)
G8A1 (IQ, Amaru)
M249 (Capitao)
Bearing-9 (Hibana, Echo, TB)
M249 SAW (Gridlock)
SMG-11 (Amaru, Smoke, Mute)
SPSMG9 (Kali, Clash)
C1 9mm (Frost)
MUZZLE BRAKE
Population targeted by this change: All The addition of the Vertical Grip is to provide players with more control over the increased recoil patterns.
Added Vertical Grip to the following weapons:
OTs-03 (Glaz)
ARX (Nomad)
C1 9mm (Frost)
T-5 (Lesion, Oryx)
MORE GAMEPLAY OPTIONS
These changes are intended to give more options to players. Players now have to sacrifice recoil control to make use of some attachments, making these more meaningful choices:
SUPPRESSOR
Population targeted by this change: All.
Removed damage reduction.
With the wider changes to recoil detailed above in these notes, we're hoping that the choice of barrel attachment will become more meaningful universally. To that end, we wanted to make the suppressor an impactful decision because of the lack of recoil mitigation, no longer because of a lack of damage mitigation.
EXTENDED BARREL
Population targeted by this change: All
With the increase in recoil, it’s now a more meaningful choice to opt for less damage drop off vs more recoil control. More weapons will now have access to the Extended Barrel attachment, granting increased utility with your choice in sights.
Added the Extended Barrel to the following weapons:
9x19VSN (Kapkan, Tachanka, Azami)
MP5K (Mute, Wamai)
FMG9 (Nokk, Smoke)
MPX (Valkyrie, Warden)
PDW9 (Jackal, Osa)
T-5 (Lesion, Oryx)
552 Commando (IQ)
G36C (Ash, Iana)
Spear .308 (Finka, Thunderbird)
Bearing-9 (Hibana, Echo, Thunderbird)
K1A (Vigil)
MP7 (Zero, Bandit)
MP5 (Rook, Doc, Melusi)
F2 (Twitch)
ANGLED GRIP
Population targeted by this change: All
The addition of the Angled Grip is to provide players with more options now that the Vertical Grip will be more impactful.
Added the Angled Grip to the following weapons:
L85A1 (Sledge, Thatcher)
R4C (Ash)
417 (Twitch, Lion)
OTs-03 (Glaz)
6P (Fuze, Finka)
SR25 (BB. Flores)
M249 (Capitao)
LMG-E (Zofia)
Spear (Finka, TB)
ARX (Nomad, Iana)
F90 (Gridlock)
M249 SAW (Gridlock)
MP5 (Doc, Rook, Melusi)
416 (Jager)
Vector (Mira, Goyo)
T-5 (Lesion, Oryx)
SMG-11 (Amaru, Smoke, Mute)
LASER
Population targeted by this change: All
We’ve normalized the distribution of Laser Sights, making them available to all weapons.
Added the Laser to the following weapons:
OTs-03 (Glaz)
G8A1 (IQ)
GSH-18 (Finka, Fuze, Glaz, Kapkan, Tachanka)
C75 AUTO (Dokkaebi, Vigil, Kali)
WEAPON SIGHTS
Population targeted by this change: All
There have been a lot of requests for specific sights on specific weapons, so now operators get access to all magnification options up until their maximums. For example, Thatcher’s L85a2 previously had access to all the universal 1x sights and only the 2.0x scope. Now he will also have access to the 1.5x Scope.
Added all sights up to the maximum allowed for the following operators:
Alibi ACS12: +1.5

GADGET BALANCING
EMP IMPACT GRENADE
Population targeted by this change: All
The EMP Impact Grenade is meant to create new windows of opportunity for attackers as well as provide an alternative for Thatcher. The EMP Impact Grenade can disable electronics in an explosion range of 1.8 meters for 9 seconds, we’re hopeful this gadget will have a positive impact on the meta.
Added EMP Impact Grenade as 3rd Gadget to the following Operators:
Blackbeard
Montagne
Dokkaebi
Nokk
Gridlock
Sledge
Lion
Osa
FRAG GRENADE
Population targeted by this change: Pro
To reduce collateral destruction, we are reducing the non-lethal radius of the grenade. The lethal damage range remains nearly the same, the difference is mostly unnoticeable during a match. We are hoping to encourage precision use of grenades or for the player to change to a more precise gadget to deal with defenders’ utility if needed.
Reduce range to 3.6 meters
Change damage curve (new=orange)
HARD BREACH CHARGE
Population targeted by this change: Casual
While this change won’t be a huge buff, the intention was to make the combo with the Impact EMP more comfortable to use. With the Impact EMP disabling electricity sources for 9 seconds and the charge taking 2 seconds to deploy plus 5 seconds to explode, the goal was to increase the window of opportunity.
Reduce activation time to 4s (from 5)
OPERATOR BALANCING
FUZE
Reduce drilling time to 2s (from 3)
Increase pellets’ trail visibility
Add smoke grenade as 3rd gadget
Population targeted by this change: Top Ranked
Fuze has the highest destructibility potential in the game, so this season we are hoping to increase it. Reducing the drilling time will allow him to chain faster. This will increase his destruction potential and his ability to push defender out of position, as they will need to react faster to counter charges.
We added smoke grenades just to give him another option. He will have more flexibility with secondary gadgets to compensate for his primary.
KALI
Increase charges to 4 (from 3)
Reduced CSRX vertical and horizontal recoil.
Increased CSRX camera recovery time after recoil.
Population targeted by this change: Top ranked
We wanted to make Kali more appealing to deal with enemy utilities. This season she will not have more tries to open electrified or muted walls. She will also have more resources than anyone else to destroy enemies’ utilities precisely from far away.
She is limited to the sniper rifle, which will allow us to provide more charges to her.
GLAZ
Add Claymore as 3rd gadget
Population targeted by this change: Casual
By adding the Claymore we hope to increase Glaz’s utility by providing another option to compensate that his primary gadget is situational.
CAPITAO
Add Gonne-6
Population targeted by this change: Top Ranked
Adding a new weapon will increase Capitao’s utility and versatility, making him useful in more situations. We are aware that he is not appealing to ranked players due to his utility being more oriented to executes. We are hoping he will be more appealing in competitive.
IANA
Remove Gonne-6
Population targeted by this change: Pro
We removed the Gonne-6 to bring Iana down to where she was before Y6S1, in terms of utility. We do not expect her to go as far down as before now that usefulness has been showcased. We are hoping that by reducing the population of Frag. Grenades will keep as a good operator to pick anytime.
FINKA
Replace Frag. Grenade with Smoke Grenades
Population targeted by this change: Pro
We have moved Finka’s explosives from 3 to 1 with the biggest nerf being the Frag Grenades to reduce her utility. The smoke grenades will allow her to transition from an entry to support operator, focusing on site execution and keeping her allies alive. Stun grenades will remain for our more aggressive players.
MAVERICK
Replace Frag. Grenades with Stun Grenades
Population targeted by this change: Pro
Our goal with replacing Mavericks Frag. Grenades was to reduce his utility and return to what he had at release. We also introduced the Impact EMP, we are hoping to provide a true alternative to Thatcher.
BUCK
Add Gonne-6
Population targeted by this change: Pro
We’re hoping that by adding the Gonne-6 we will increase Buck’s utility and versatility as well as compensate for the reduction of Frag Grenades. Now that Buck has a solid presence, we’re going to keep a close eye on him.

Rainbow Six Siege steps into season three of Year 7 with Operation Brutal Swarm! From the sweltering wilderness of his Singapore homeland, Operator Grim advances into the spotlight and joins team Rainbow. An expert in recon, intelligence gathering and survival techniques, his unique Kawan Hive Launcher is the perfect tool to bring when you need precise enemy movement and deployment information. Read the Patch Notes below for full details.
With every update we bring our latest BattlEye and Data Ban numbers. Here are our latest BattEye and Data Ban numbers, including data until the end of June.
CHEATFIXES
Throughout Vector Glare we’ve continued to fix cheats that are affecting players. Below you can see the fixes that have been deployed since our last Anti-Cheat Status Update.
• Instant kill players • Forcing all other players to crash
We’ve also got multiple cheat fixes currently in the works. It’s too early to share details on what those are now, though we will be sharing more on these fixes in a future update.
PHONE NUMBER BLACKLISTING
Phone Number verification has been a part of Siege for some time now, and we’re continuously working to develop the feature, making it as robust as possible.
Phone Number Blacklisting is now an additional step that we’ve taken to reduce repeat offending by cheaters. Now that this is in place, banned cheaters will have the phone number that is associated with their accounts blacklisted, meaning that the same phone number cannot be used on another account.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Report Cheaters In-Game
In-game reporting continues to be the best way to get your reports to us. If you’re reporting a cheater via another platform, the following can help us to identify and sanction them.
• Clear video or photo proof of the incident • The offending player’s Username and User ID • Match ID for any relevant matches • Date and time of the incident
Think you might have seen a cheater? You can use Match Replay to double check.
RFF REPUTATION PENALTY
The Reverse Friendly Fire Reputation Penalty aims to reduce the impact that top offenders have on others by triggering counter measures when repeated abuse is detected.
Rollout Plan
Since Y7S2.2, we've been in a "grace period" where only warnings are triggered. The purpose of this grace period is to support and help our players adapt to the new system. Once this is over, counter measures will be enabled for repeat offenders.
Expected Behavior After Rollout
Players with a high number of friendly fire offences will firstly receive a warning. If a player continues to commit friendly fire offences after a warning has been issued, the RFF Reputation Penalty will be triggered, leading to the player having RFF automatically enabled for the next 30 matches.
Below you will find the download sizes for each platform.
- Ubisoft Connect: 1.29 GB - Steam: 1.6 MB - Xbox One : 1.06 GB - Xbox Series X : 1.41 GB - PS4: 1.86 GB - PS5: 1.15 GB
GAME HEALTH
REPUTATION PENALTY: REVERSE FRIENDLY FIRE
- Reputation Penalty has been added that activates Reverse Friendly Fire by default for players who injure too many teammates. - Repeat offenders will receive a set of warnings notifying them of how they are seen by the system, and warn them to modify their play style before receiving a penalty. - Reputation Penalty lasts multiple matches to address disruptive behavior in-game.

When we first revealed the Year 7 roadmap back in February, we mentioned that it would change and evolve with each season, as new content is added and features are reprioritized to adapt to the reality of developing for a live game. Alongside the reveal of Operation Vector Glare, we shared the first of these roadmap updates and today, we have another one to share.
From new and expanded content coming next season, to some features that have been delayed until Y7S4, read on to get a look at the updated roadmap, followed by the first details on what you can expect from these changes. Then, we'll have more details to share during the Y7S3 reveal, so stay tuned.
ROADMAP UPDATES
MAP ADDED TO COMPETITIVE POOL
• Available Y7S3
Alongside the launch of this season, we let you know that the new map originally planned for Y7S3 would be pushed back to Y7S4. That being said, we wanted to share some good map-related news with you.
Next season, we'll be adding a map to the competitive map pool. We're not sharing any specifics quite yet, but what we can say is that it's a map you've played before, it was part of an event, and you have never seen it in comp. What do you think it is?
DELAYED FEATURES
• Ranked 2.0 release shifting from Y7S3 to Y7S4 • Restrictions on voice chat shifting from Y7S3 to Y7S4 • Reputation Score display beta shifting from Y7S3 to Y7S4
We've mentioned it before, but sometimes, the reality of working on a live game means features have to be delayed in order to ensure they meet the quality standards you expect. This is one of those cases.
As Y7S3 approached, we realized Ranked 2.0 would benefit from a little more time, so we've made the difficult decision to push its release back by a season. This way, we can ensure that the revamp to Ranked that you get in Y7S4 is the strongest it can possibly be.
Similar to the above shift, we made the decision to delay two aspects of Reputation System from Y7S3 to Y7S4 in order to meet the demands of live game development. These include the restrictions on voice chat and Reputation Score display beta.
Keeping with the topic of Player Behavior's upcoming features, we're happy to report that the ability to submit cheat reports from match replays and restrictions on text chat remain on track and will release with Y7S3 as planned.
MAJOR BALANCING CHANGES
• Available Y7S3
We previously mentioned that we've been actively investigating the imbalance of LMGs and Finka's role in the meta and plan to deliver tweaks to them with Y7S3. This is still on track, and will come as part of a bigger update to Siege's moment-to-moment balance than we typically release in a single season.
This is a big part of the reason why we made the decision to forego a mid-season balancing patch this season. The changes that will now come with Y7S3 interlock with one another in such a way that we feel the best way to experience and adapt to them is as a single package. One change that players can look forward to as part of this update is the addition of impact EMP grenades to some Operators' loadouts.
We're excited to share more soon, so stay tuned for the Y7S3 reveal for a full breakdown of the changes coming your way.
With every update we bring our latest BattlEye and Data Ban numbers. Here, our ban numbers include the full month of May.
RECENT FIXES
With the release of Vector Glare, we’ve deployed a number of fixes that put a stop to cheats that have been affecting players. These include:
• Instant kill teammates • Verifying gadget ownership - Stealing the defuser and gadgets • Infinite ammo • Killing teammates not counted as team kills • Shooting without a weapon equipped - possible in certain circumstances
DATA BANS UPDATE
We’re currently working on changing how we process the data involved with data bans, and we’re adjusting the related thresholds. As part of this change, we’ll also be adding extra data points, which will help us to pinpoint cheaters. We want to make sure we’re catching as many cheaters as possible without the chance of false positives.
These changes may take some time, and we’ll provide more updates when we’re ready. We’re confident in using data bans as one of our solutions to cheating, and it’s a method that we’re always working to advance.
Can’t see a cheater’s real username due to Privacy Mode and want to report them to us on another platform? Match ID is the key!
ABANDONMENT SANCTION ERRORS
We’re aware that players are not currently receiving the abandonment sanction timing in the main menu, with affected playlists remaining unlocked in the menus. This means that players are still able to start the matchmaking process, resulting in a matchmaking failure, and an error code (2-0x0000D00C).
Our Player Behavior team is aware of this issue and have identified a fix, which is planned to be deployed this week, with exact timing to come. This will re-enable these abandonment sanction banners, allowing players to see when such a sanction is in place.
Coming hot on the heels of the launch of Operation Vector Glare, we’re excited to unveil the latest addition to the Sixth Guardian Program! If you’re new to this program, it aims to support a charity via the sales of an in-game bundle, with 100% of net proceeds (with a minimum of $6 USD per bundle sold) going to the charity. Your purchases help directly support a charity and help a diverse range of causes. Together, we hope to unite the Rainbow Six Siege community and make a positive change outside of our game.
Since the program's launch in 2020, together with our community, we have raised over $350,000 USD for charity! Big thanks once again to our past Sixth Guardian partners: AbleGamers Charity, Stack Up, and Indspire.
The Siege team is excited to reveal that our latest partner is the fantastic charity, ILGA World. Representing more than 1,800 organizations in over 160 countries and territories, ILGA World supports human rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex and queer people through advocacy, research, trainings, and awareness campaigns. In their words, “we want a world where the human rights of all are respected and where everyone can live in equality and freedom: a world where global justice and equity are assured and established regardless of people’s sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expressions and sex characteristics.” We’re beyond excited to be working with them on this and feel they’re a great fit for a bundle focused on Osa.
This bundle features a set of cosmetics focused on Osa, all featuring ILGA World’s distinctive colors and Sixth Guardian branding. Specifically, the set includes:
"Sixth Guardian Glory" Uniform
"Sixth Guardian Glory " Headgear
