Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is about to enter its fourth year of updates, which is just mind-boggling when you think about it. The game still has a huge player base and with the support that Ubisoft has given to it over the years, it seems like now is a good time to go over the 44 Operators that are currently in the game. Each one has different weapon load outs, gadgets they can bring along for the fight, and the unique abilities they offer; essentially being their own class. Knowing their limitations and strengths is key to getting the most out of them and we’ll be looking at the various operators to see how they’ve changed in this guide. We’ll be making recommendations about whether or not to use them, as well as detailing which operators they have advantages over. (more…)

Rainbow Six Siege players will find a generous stocking stuffer waiting for them next time they login. Ubisoft is giving away a free Holiday Pack that contains a random DLC operator that you haven't already unlocked or, if you have all the operators, 25,000 Renown.

All you have to do is login before January 1 to claim your present. Some players that already own all DLC operators are reporting they're unable to claim their Renown—Ubisoft is currently investigating

Twenty-five thousand Renown is the usual cost of a DLC operator, so it's an ideal amount to bank away for the future. Or, you could just splurge on the best Siege skins.

If you unlock an operator you're unfamiliar with, check out our guide to all the operators here, and don't forget to stop by our guide to valuable gadget tricks while you're at it.

With the final update of Year 3 of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Operation Wind Bastion brings along the Fortress map. Set in a beautiful desert palace on a mountaintop, the map features multiple tiers, each one with delicate treasures and places to lounge around in, or even an infirmary with plenty of monitors surrounding it. It’s very easy to get lost in Fortress, so this map guide will go over the map as a whole, defensive and attacking points, and where to find all the cameras.

Nomad introduces tactic that’s not widely used into Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege – using proximity grenades to flush out enemies, either by running out of range or knocking them back. Earlier this summer, Ubisoft implemented an autoban system in Rainbow Six Siege that hit players with an automatic timeout (or permanent ban for repeat offenders) for dropping racist or homophobic slurs in chat. Brand director Alexandre Remy said a couple of months later that Ubi had "no regrets" about banning toxic players, but added that the feature would "evolve … to be a little more flexible" in the future.

In a blog post released today, Ubisoft laid out the next step in that evolution: A chat filter that will flag potentially offending messages for review and prevent them from being broadcast, but will not automatically impose timeouts or permabans.

"Upon review, we found that the automatic ban feature, while effective at curtailing bad behavior, was intrusive to the gameplay of other players not engaging in the inappropriate activity," Ubisoft explained.

"The goal of the chat filter is to encourage players to be vigilant with the language they are using without immediately disrupting other players. While we valued the performance against toxicity that the auto-ban system brought, we also wanted to provide a more transparent feedback system to our players. The chat filter system will not only give direct feedback to players who are using toxic language, but will continue to allow us to provide appropriate sanctions to offending players."

Under the new system, which is set to go live today, players who cross the line will be told, "The following message was not sent and will be review for inappropriate conduct." Ubisoft said that manual reviews for toxicity will continue as they have over the past few years.

Players of esports darling Rainbow Six Siege can now swear to their hearts content, so long as they don’t mind their messages being forwarded to a moderation team. In a small developer blog post today, Ubisoft announced that they were rolling back a potentially over-zealous automatic ban feature intended to curb community toxicity. As of today, messages that would have previously earned a player a temporary time-out won’t be broadcast, and instead sent to be “reviewed for inappropriate conduct”. As funny as some auto-bans could be, this is probably for the best.
