Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six® Siege - Ubi_Ludo

Last week, we announced which teams were invited to the new edition of the Rainbow Six Brazilian Pro League. On the European and North American side, eight invitations were distributed to teams who competed throughout Year 1 and earned themselves a coveted spot in the new format of the Rainbow Six Pro League. Beginning with top talents who proved themselves during the Six Invitational:

Continuum

It seemed only fitting that the very first Six Invitational winners should receive an invitation. The team & all its players have been part of the Rainbow Six Pro League from the very beginning and have been on the top level since the R6PL Season 3. Led by Canadian, Continuum has shown the usual skills of the NA scene with an incredible talent for strategy & counter-strat.

eRa Eternity

This team fought their way to the grand finals of the Six Invitational by taking down Envy and GiFu. They only fell to Continuum in the grand finale, proving themselves to be worthy adversaries and top competitors. eRa Eternity stepped into the world of Rainbow Six: Siege in early January of 2017. Their line-up consists of many well-known and experienced players, including some who took part in many Season Finals and Rainbow Six Pro League.

GiFu

The Finnish squad has been with us since the very beginning of the Rainbow Six: Siege pro scene. Willkey & co. have never missed a single LAN event of the Pro League. GiFu (pronounced: “SEE-SOO”) has not always been the best team, but they have been the best in one key category: consistency. In three seasons, GiFu has grinded for their spot for the Seasonal finals all three times, showing off not only their skills but also their ability to stay strong for as long as the Pro League exists.

Three more European squads have also been invited to the competition: PENTA Sports (the team was our R6PL Season 1 Champions and two of their players are still remaining), Yunktis (the R6PL Season 2 Champions) and Team Vitality (R6PL Season 3 Finalists, previously known as Playing Ducks).

Joining the North American division will be: FlipSid3 Tactics (R6PL Season 2 Semi-Finalists) and Onslaught (previously known as Ferocity). During the online stage of the Rainbow Six Pro League Season 3 those teams ended up in 3rd and 4th places in the standings respectively.

NA Invited teams:
  • eRa Eternity
  • Continuum
  • FlipSid3 Tactics
  • Onslaught
EU Invited teams:
  • GiFu
  • PENTA Sports
  • Yunktis
  • Team Vitality

The Rainbow Six Pro League Season 1 Year 2 will kick off on March 13th. Eight PC teams will take part in competition in each of three featured regions: Brazil, Europe, and North America.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six® Siege - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Jake Tucker)

Rainbow Six Siege [official site] had a rough first year. It launched in December 2015 to little fanfare, with the European team cutting their marketing push after a tragic terrorist attack in Paris. The game still picked up plenty of critical acclaim, but didn’t make an impact on the Steam charts. Those that did pick the game up in its first few weeks found their experience marred by a maelstrom of problems, ranging from game-breaking bugs, to the annoying server issues and quirky glitches that seem to come packaged with every multiplayer-only game at launch. The future looked dire.

Just over a year later and Rainbow Six Siege has more than 10 million players. I visited Montreal for the Rainbow Six Invitational, Ubisoft Montreal’s first attempt at an annual esports event. Ubisoft Montreal staff roam the event, wearing Siege t-shirts, and the mood here is celebratory. That’s to be expected though; for the makers of Rainbow Six Siege, the success of the game feels like redemption after years of hard work.

‘Til all are one, it’s only the weekly Steam charts! These are the ten games which sold best on Steam last week.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six® Siege - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Jake Tucker)

New additions to Rainbow Six Siege‘s [official site] roster of MOBA-style classes can drastically affect the game’s meta. Each of the content patches released so far have caused shifts in the pro scene that have then trickled down into public matches. This Tuesday brings the next, called Operation Velvet Shell. It marks the start of Rainbow Six Siege’s Year 2 DLC and introduces two new classes to the game, Mira and Jackal, and a new map called Coastline.

I was able to play with all of it ahead of its release during a recent visit to Ubisoft. The update is focusing on the idea of a deep defence – an objective that’s protected by people in the objective room but also by those in the adjacent rooms – and continuing to move away from the current meta’s focus on ‘roamers’. With that in mind, let’s get to know these armed assailants. … [visit site to read more]

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six® Siege - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

Rainbow Six Siege [official site] will kick off its second year of content updates tomorrow, February 7th, Ubisoft have announced. They held their big Six Invitational tournament over the weekend and took the opportunity to show off the new map and characters coming with Operation Velvet Shell (not a euphemism, unless you want it to be, in which case go right ahead tittering) and discuss plans for the year beyond.

My favourite of the new operators is Mira, who continues Siege’s avant-garde Changing Rooms> action by popping windows into walls wherever she pleases. Perhaps a future character will paint an accent wall and hang hideous drapes to distract enemies. … [visit site to read more]
