Elite Dangerous - Zac_Frontier
Greetings Commanders,

We hope you are as excited as we are for the launch of Odyssey! This expansion marks Elite Dangerous' biggest ever update, and as such we'll be taking the servers offline in preparation for the launch.

Server Downtime

All Elite Dangerous servers on all platforms will be taken offline at 07:00 UTC / 08:00 BST on Wednesday 19 May and will be down for approximately 11 hours, returning 18:00 UTC / 19:00 BST.

We look forward to taking that one giant leap with you all next week!

Greetings Commanders,

We hope you enjoyed the recent alpha for the PC version of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey

Thank you once again for your feedback and suggestions which will have a lasting impact for all future Commanders. This only marks the beginning for Odyssey. After the game launches on 19 May, we’ll continue tweaking and balancing according to your experiences, just as we have done in the past.

We know there are still a number of questions from the community, and today we’d like to give more information on the shared galaxy between Elite Dangerous: Odyssey and Elite Dangerous: Horizons.

From PC Launch:

All Elite Dangerous: Odyssey players will gain access to the new features, including planetary improvements, enhanced lighting, and textures.

The differences will mean that Elite Dangerous: Horizons players cannot share a gameplay session with those playing Odyssey. However, Odyssey owners will be able to share a session with and play with those in Horizons by launching the game in Horizons mode – though if they do this, they will temporarily not have access to the new Odyssey features.

Console Launch Onwards:

In line with the console launch, we plan to update Elite Dangerous on all platforms (PC/PlayStation/Xbox) to allow Odyssey and Horizons players to reunite and play together with other users on their respective platform.

All Horizons players will also receive the new graphical updates, including the new planetary tech, lighting, and organics, free of charge, but will not be able to get out on foot or enter Odyssey’s tenuous atmospheres.

If you have any questions please leave them in the equivalent post on our forums, and we will answer them as quickly as we can!

Today at 16:00 UTC / 17:00 BST we implemented a hotfix to the Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Alpha with the following changes:

  • Further improved stability.
  • Enabled Fleet Carriers in the Alpha at an adjusted cost.
  • Fixed an issue where a small number of players spawned outside the playable bubble.
  • Fixed an issue where terminals would lock the camera off-centre. Players can now adjust the camera to view the terminal more freely.

Commanders who would like to purchase a Fleet Carrier can do so at Sharp Dock in Sumod.

Once again, thank you for your continued feedback as we enjoy the final phase of the Odyssey Alpha!

Greetings Commanders!

We're excited to announce that Phase 4 of the alpha is now underway! This time, you can play Odyssey with your existing Commanders and ships, so bring on the Cutters, Corvettes, Cobras and more! To help manage your fleet, delivery times and costs for ship transportation have been reduced, allowing you to easily transfer and use any of your existing ships. The snapshot taken from the base game to duplicate for the alpha was taken on 23 April.

The following features will also be available:

  • Wing Missions / Ship Depot
  • Powerplay
  • Tech Brokers
  • Search and Rescue contacts
  • Research Station services contacts

Phase 4 is expected to close on 5 May, continuing as long as necessary for the development team to receive feedback, collect data, and make adjustments. Once the phase ends, the alpha will close so this is your last chance to play Odyssey until launch! Note that any progress made in the alpha will not carry over to the live game.

We hope you enjoy this final phase and would like to take this moment to thank you all for playing! Your feedback and suggestions have helped steer Odyssey's development, ready for launch on 19 May. We hope you enjoy the last chance to play Elite Dangerous on-foot before the big day!

We have been overwhelmed by your feedback and excitement through the Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Alpha, your support and dedication is vital in completing the most ambitious expansion in Elite Dangerous history.

We can confirm that, as of this morning, our live game snapshot has been completed and phase four is set to begin as planned on 28 April.

We have been listening closely to your feedback and many members of our community have requested longer in the Alpha to experience the content and share your valuable feedback. This is why we are pleased to confirm that we will be extending the window of play for our fourth phase, and therefore the Alpha will now end on Wednesday 5 May at 08:00 UTC / 09:00 BST.

In addition to this, after a number of community requests, all stored ships captured in the snapshot will now be made available during the Alpha with reduced transportation time and cost to bring those ships into the playable bubble.

We would like to use this opportunity to thank you all once again for your help in taking this giant leap forward for Elite Dangerous. The development team have been incredibly busy reviewing your reports, comments and data from this period. Some of these fixes you will have seen through the phases of Alpha, and many more will be going live with the full PC release on 19 May.

Greetings Commanders!

Following on from the excitement of the Elite Dangerous: Odyssey launch date announcement this afternoon, we're excited to make preparations for the final phase of the Odyssey Alpha, Phase 4, which is due to launch on Wednesday the 28th of April.

The primary focus of Phase 4 will be: Compatibility Testing.

Before Phase 4 can begin, a 'Player Snapshot' of your Elite: Dangerous Commander profile needs to be taken and applied to the Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Alpha.

This snapshot will be taken at 08:00 UTC / 09:00 BST tomorrow, April 23rd.

About the 'Player Snapshot':

The snapshot will include:

  • The ship your Commander is piloting at the time of the snapshot being taken. No other ships that you own will accompany you to Alpha Phase 4.
  • Your accumulated credits will transfer across as part of the profile snapshot.
  • Any players in SRVs at the time the snapshot has been taken will be moved back to their current ship and transferred.
  • Fleet Carriers that commanders currently own will not be coming to phase 4, however we are aiming to add the ability to purchase Fleet carries during Phase 4

In order to begin Alpha Phase 4 with your profile ready to go, the Elite: Dangerous Alpha servers will be down from approximately 07:00 UTC / 08:00 BST on Monday the 26th of April, returning to order to welcome in Phase 4 on Wednesday the 28th of April.

Full patch notes will follow on Wednesday the 28th along with the start of Phase 4 with a full list of features, fixes and known issues.

On behalf of all teams involved, we want to once again thank you for your hard work and commitment with providing such thorough and thoughtful feedback throughout each phase of the Alpha so far - amazing work.

Your feedback during the alpha period has been invaluable and made this release date possible. We'll continue collecting your feedback throughout the upcoming alpha phase 4 and beyond launch as we work on further improvements and content updates.

Console development continues behind the scenes with an Autumn release still on schedule.

There's still time to pre-order Odyssey and get your hands on the exclusive Pioneer suit skin. The Deluxe version of the pre-order is also still available for those who want to hop into the alpha which is expected to end on April 30th.

Elite Dangerous - Frontier Developments
Greetings commanders,

Thank you for all the feedback so far on Phase 3! We've collected and shared many of your comments with the development team and will continue to do so for the rest of the phase. Here's an update on two of the most pressing issues:

The Genetic Sampler
We've heard you loud and clear about the sampling minigame mechanics and place within Elite Dangerous. We understand that a manual reactions-based minigame is not a good fit in this context and will remove it in time for launch or shortly after. Instead, the tool will take samples automatically (exact implementation TBD). This may mean that the circles instead appear only to indicate the level of sample completion: e.g. sample 1 completes the first ring, sample 2 the second, and sample 3 the third.

The Detailed Surface Scanner (DSS)
We've also received many reports about planets being highlighted entirely in green by the Detailed Surface Scanner. This is a known issue resulting from the new planetary tech not being in its final state. This is unlikely to be fully resolved during the alpha, but will be fixed in time for launch when planetary tech changes are final.

Thank once again for your feedback which is critical to the alpha process. We hope you'll continue sharing feedback and reporting any bugs you encounter on our Issue Tracker.
