Sid Meier’s Civilization® VI - Hinkle2K

Debuting in Civilization VI is the Kingdom of Kongo, led by Mvemba a Nzinga. Also called King Afonso I, Nzinga is most famous for his attempts to spread Christianity across his empire, and increased activities with Portugal in a bid to modernize the empire.

Mvemba a Nzinga’s road to becoming king was paved with conflict. In 1506, he defeated his half-brother Mpanzu a Nzinga’s forces in open conflict to claim the throne. Accounts attributed his victory to the appearance of an apparition of Saint James the Great breaking the morale of the enemy, thus leading to Christianity becoming the royal faith during Nzinga’s rule.

Nzinga’s relationship with the Portuguese was seen as occasionally amicable and at other times highly contentious. Nzinga deplored Portuguese participation in the Kongo slave trade and fought to stop it. Once allied, Portugal helped bring structural progress to the empire and attempted to convert all of Kongo to Catholicism. Kongo welcomed Portuguese missionaries, who helped modernize the country with new schools, establish a literate noble class and gain new architecture from Portuguese designers.

Unique Unit: Ngao Mbeba

The Kongolese troops known as Shield-Bearers were highly trained heavy-infantry units, described by the Portuguese armies that faced them in 1577 as second to none. Armed with scimitar swords, long shields that extended from knees to neck, and little in the way of body armor, these units were the heart of Kongo’s powerful armies.

Unique District: Mbanza

The Mbanza were cities and towns in the Kongo that originated before European influence was established. These cities, located deep in the jungle, were much larger than their Medieval Era counterparts elsewhere. As these cities grew, crafting occupations proliferated the cities and became the ruling class. The capital of the Kongo was aptly named Mbanza Kongo.

Sid Meier’s Civilization® VI - Hinkle2K

Returning to lead India in Civilization VI is the beloved Mahatma Gandhi. Born in British-ruled India, Gandhi was famed for his courageous passive movements towards alleviating poverty, increasing women’s rights, promoting religious harmony and, most prominently, obtaining India’s independence.

Gandhi led the campaign for India’s independence from British rule through a specific philosophy of nonviolent resistance called Satyagraha. Some of his movements included the famed Salt March, multiple hunger strikes and more, which often led to long stints in prison and harm to himself.

Gandhi also worked to unite Hindus and Muslims in the country, which drew the attention of many would-be assassins. After five failed attempts on his life, Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948, leaving a nation and world in mourning. As the preeminent nonviolent activist, Gandhi’s influence changed the course of human history, setting the stage for leaders such as Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela who drew from his inspiring nonviolent philosophies for change.

Unique Unit: Varu

Originating in India, the Varu, otherwise known as the War Elephant, is one of the world’s most intimidating cavalry units. Atop the Varu rests a wooden box where archers and pikemen can attack infantry units relatively safe from harm, while the elephant itself presents multiple dangers to any soldiers within its path.

Unique Improvement: Stepwell

Indian Stepwells are man-made ponds in which water is aggregated at the center of a series of descending stairs. Marked by complex and elaborate designs that expanded beyond just utilitarian, stepwells made water readily available year-round for drinking, irrigation, bathing, and other uses.

Steam Controller - SDalton

Today's Steam Client Beta includes a set of features centered around two new configurations available for the controller.

First, the ability to reconfigure the controller for Steam itself is an often requested feature. The new Big Picture Configuration allows users to do just that. Inputs can be rearranged or added in the various sections of Big Picture including the main interface, the web browser, and the on-screen keyboard. In addition, Big Picture can also now be navigated using a cursor based interface via the trackpads and gyro.

Second, there is a new configuration available globally - the Steam Button Chord configuration. This allows for a global, immediately accessible set of actions and hotkeys while holding the Steam Button. Existing On-Screen Keyboard and Screenshot combinations are included by default as well as mouse, alt-tab, magnifier, controller power-off, and media control functionality. This chording combination is available at any time, whether in Big Picture, in game, or on the desktop.

Like game profiles, these configurations can be saved and shared with the community.

In addition a variety of new controller actions such as controller and host power options, screen magnifier (where supported), and Steam Music bindings have been added as bindable functions available in all configurations.

Deus Ex : Mankind Divided released recently and plays great with the Steam Controller. For a limited time get 40% off a Steam Controller when purchased along with Deus Ex : Mankind Divided or Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Digital Deluxe.

We're continually listening to your feedback and looking to improve upon the Steam Controller. We welcome you feedback on what you like and what we could be doing better. Next up we'll be looking at how community configurations are ranked and presented to users so the best configurations for you are easier to find.

Sid Meier’s Civilization® VI - melaine.brou

For 48 years, Philip II was king of the massive Spanish Empire, and the most powerful ruler in Europe during the 16th century. He championed the Catholic faith, utilizing the Spanish Inquisition and leading several religious conflicts.

In staunch defense of Catholicism, Philip organized a “Holy League” against the Ottoman Empire, halting their dominance across the Mediterranean at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. He later opposed Protestantism in England, and attempted to invade the country several times using his fleet of ships, the world-famous Spanish Armada.

Philip directly intervened during the French Wars of Religion between 1585 & 1595, financing the Catholic League and ultimately causing Catholicism to be the foremost religion in France.

Phillip II’s reign ushered in a golden era for Spain. Despite constant religious warfare, Spain’s culture flourished. Music, art, and literature boomed under Philip, culminating with the creation of the majestic El Escorial monastery and palace in 1595.

Unique Unit: Conquistador

Conquistadors were Spanish warriors and explorers who traveled outside of European lands, colonizing territory and establishing new trade routes. These Spanish adventurers conquered the Inca, Maya, and Aztec civilizations during the Age of Discovery.

Unique Improvement: Mission

Spanish Missions were constructed in the New World as an attempt to convert indigenous peoples to Christianity. These religious outposts established the Spanish in the region and simultaneously expanded the reach of Christianity and the Spanish way of life.
