Let's jump right into spring this year with the long-anticipated 001 Game Creator update you have all been waiting for, as well as a discount on the software and DLC's! The change log is absolutely massive with over 50 changes fresh off the press, with a wide assortment of new features, enhancements and bug fixes. So let's dive right in and break down some of the best parts of this update!
New 3D Lighting Demo & Template Updates
A spectacular new advanced lighting demo has been added, so users can check out how to set up some awesome lighting effects used in a 3D scene. Some of the setups include moving lights, light switches, explosions and more!
We've also been upgrading the performances within our existing template demos too: adding a default cursor to the Visual Novel, updated music used in the Platformer; and resolving the character collision clipping in the ground and improving the bed model in the 3D Action RPG. Issues with the crouching and spawning mechanics in the 3D FPS Survival Horror have also been resolved, and we also improved the guidance and the mechanics of the puzzle. For the 3D adventure, we fixed the issue that prevented progression.
Moved Example and Demo Folders
We've recently received reports that the example and demo projects weren't working, and upon investigating further, we realized that the issues were tied to having multiple user accounts. To resolve this, we moved the location of the example and demo projects from "My Documents" to "Program Files". It is safe to delete both the "Demos" and "Examples" folders, as they will no longer be used by the engine. To access the latest demos and examples, you can create a new game and select it from the template selection window.
Loading & Restarting Issues Resolved
Various issues have been reported with how saving and loading works, and we've tackled 'em all! Some of these issues include controls being properly stored within save game data, or restarting the game causing controls to reset. We have also included some other changes such as having global variables and system scripts properly update when loading a full saved game.
Improved Performance & Debugger Fixes
Compared to previous versions, you can expect various performance improvements in both the editor as well as in your existing games! Inside the "Game Settings" you can find a new section dedicated to various existing and new performance options. You can now limit how often your actors and fields update globally with the new "Process state triggers every frame." option, which will dramatically improve performance in most projects. We've also fixed the "Slowest Trigger Scripts" feature of the performance debugger, as well added a new "Slowest Interface" option to help figure out exactly what's making your game run slow!
New Use Values & Team Fixes
We have added some new use values in preparation of a new upcoming feature that you can leverage in your projects! You can now easily access the interface co-ordinates for each of the edges of the screen, allowing you to scale and position interface elements manually in your scripts. We also added a use value to determine the alliance/relationship between multiple teams, expanding your possibilities for customizable actor AI! We have also fixed some edge-cases with how teams behaved, such as issues when a team is negative towards itself.
Fixed Render Issues, Crashes, Glitches & More
This release comes bundled with a tremendous amount of fixes, some minor such as animation stutters, some major such as game-breaking crashes. A highlight of some of these fixes include: Animations stuttering when an actor follows another actor; Crashes and memory issues related to unloading maps; Crashes when using colored text; Games not closing properly and relaunching under certain circumstances; Ensured many actor properties are carried over when using "Change Actor Template"; and SO much more! Please note that In-App Purchases will become available outside of the beta version once the feature is compatible with all platforms.
As always, we appreciate the continued support and feedback that we receive from our community. You can view the full list of changes for the newest update and the previous ones from the changelog below: https://001gamecreator.com/changes/
Tutorial Updates
Earlier this year we were happy to announce the launch of our new video tutorial series dedicated entirely to Resources! In the first video you will get an overview of how the sprite editor works, as well as how to create a new sprite.
If you haven't checked it out already, we also recommend you take a look at the 6 part "Basics" series which completed last year. For links to all of our latest video tutorials check out the page below: https://001gamecreator.com/video-guides/
Alongside our video tutorials, we have also been working on getting more text tutorials out as well! You can easily utilize tiles that are 16x16, 64x64, etc. To learn how to do this check out our Game Recipes page below: https://001gamecreator.com/game-recipes/

Previous Updates
In case you've been out of the loop, some of the notable features and fixes from our last update include: Added support for Android App Bundles to be compliant with new android publishing rules; Map transitions are no longer glitched with irregularly shaped actors; Fields incorrectly resetting their "Time" value when resized; Animated "Window" fields not properly animating and more.
2021 has been an uplifting year as we have taken several huge steps for 001 Game Creator. We reflect on those moments of advancements, and we list them in this End-of-Year review.
In early spring, we launched a gigantic new version of 001 Game Creator! This engine update fixed several major bugs, improved map weather options and included new features.
The new map weather events enhanced the users' capability of creating interesting atmospheres and captivating scenes on any map! These options included changing the maximum and minimum speed, as well as the opacity, for the clouds and rain. Users also gained the ability to change the cloud/rain sprites or the wind direction through scripting. Additionally, we have greatly improved the range used for each weather slider, making it far easier to setup rain and clouds!
For the first time, users can finally organize and create lists of options in custom events and network messages.
Users can also access the list of the project’s globals through the “Global Variables Collection” and “Switches Collection” use values.
We also enabled the user to be able to import GIF files through the sprite editor when adding “Image Files”.
Weeks later, another engine update was released, and it included the Render Priority Option for Actors. The "Render Priority" will support rendering of semi-transparent actors against each other properly when they partially overlap, or when handing z-fighting issues. It quite useful for projects that centralizes on one-to-one combat between actors that constantly overlap each other.
Besides providing the Render Priority Option for Actors, this newer version fixed countless of issues - log messages that don't disappear over time in the editor, map boundary connections collision issues, party crashes, errors and memory leaks for terraformations, and inaccurate Android touches. We also did a hot fix on the Tile-set Editor on Tiles and Terraformations.
In the midst of the year, we have been updating and improving several webpages of the Wiki Documentation as the engine continues to evolve. Now, users can read-up on tips on how to include color codes for constant boxes, beneficial details on utilizing non-32x32 tiles, as well as mouse/touch support, and so much more! Be sure to utilize the wiki anytime you need a reference of what a feature does.
To assist with specific coding scripts and tutorials, we released more Game Recipes to the public. These game recipes are set up to be simple tutorials with easy-to-follow instructions as Steam guides. Be sure to check all of our game recipes to improve your games in various ways.
On YouTube, we finally concluded our on-going video tutorial series that covered the "Basics" of using 001 Game Creator. Watch this six-episode series at any time from the very beginning to learn everything you need to get started with 001! Right now, Patreon members have first access to episode 1 of our next series dedicated to Resources. Be sure to keep an eye out for it's release!
For users who've needed extensive assistance with their specific code or scripts, the team has helped them on many occasions through the online scripting service. It's an optional tutoring session when the user can have a one-on-one session with one of our team members for an hour or more. It's a more personal setting than the Discord support thread, but we'll continue to answer any questions on any of our social platforms.
Toward the end of the year, our biggest achievement is being able to finally release a Beta version of the In-App Purchase (IAP) feature. This highly requested feature enables the engine users to use this option in Steam (as DLCs) and Android in order to monetize their games. Right now, our Patreon members have first access to this feature in the newest Beta version, and it will be released to the public when it is well-developed.
Besides getting a sneak peak at the In-App Purchase feature, patrons also get privileges of having first-access to the video tutorials, game recipes, and the newest Beta version of 001 Game Creator. The newest Beta version significantly fixes several bugs and performance issues, which resolves memory leaks, weapons targeting themselves, restarting a game from resetting controls, etc., and it will later-on be released to the public.
To announce this glorious moment and other exciting announcements, we took this opportunity to release our newly-formatted 001 E-Newsletter. It has been setup for followers to get the latest details on the updates, sales, and promotional events about 001 Game Creator and other projects related to the main engine or its DLCs. Be sure to join it to keep in the loop of all exciting SoftWeir products!

Although we love delivering new requests, features and downloadable contents throughout the year, we still have to keep our balance of time and workflow, while resolving any current issues and instabilities reported to us by the community and team members. As a result of our continued growth and support, we were able to work on and release new projects while still providing features and fixes to 001 this year!

The Easy Game Creator is a one-of-a-kind software that allows the user to create a personalized video game experience in minutes. Already, tons of people are using this perfect tool to great a memorable and fun gift for a loved one! Besides working on this project (as well as others), we still aim to deliver new engine versions to the public as soon as possible, so expect new surprises in the pipeline at the beginning of next year!
All of this and more would not have been possible if it weren't for the amazing support that we've been receiving from our Patreon members and community! We enjoy moments when members can help other folks in the Discord thread and appreciate reading encouraging comments and feedback! All of your feedback helped us to improve our products and service throughout the years. As such, thank you! There's also an extraordinary length of bug fixes and improvements, ranging from game saving issues, to pesky bugs with actor teams! You can also find that certain functionalities of the game debugger have been improved, such as the ability to view the slowest running interface to help nail down those performance issues in your projects.

Improper Valid Saves & d8vb.dll Isn't Registered

Submerged Actors Using Equipment
What if an equipment cannot be properly used underwater? Some users noticed that they could not use any equipment when their actors are submerged underwater. We've resolved this issue, but users can create scripts if they don't want submerged actors to use any equipment.

We're thrilled to release the second new update this year for 001 Game Creator, with new changes and performance improvements! We hope that you enjoy this major update and checkout the things that are mentioned below.
Render Priority Option for Actors
If you have a project that focuses on one-on-one combat between actors or actors that constantly overlap with each other, then you'll love this new feature. We have added the "Render Priority" option to actors. The "Render Priority" will support rendering of semi-transparent actors against each other properly when they partially overlap, or when handing z-fighting issues.
Hot Fix for the Tile-Set Editor on Tiles and Terraformations
This version also fixes the memory leaks and loss of graphics in the tile-set editor when copying, pasting and editing tiles and terraformations. Therefore, you should be able to preview everything without experiencing any graphical issues throughout the editing process.
Inaccurate Android Touches & Text to Number Conversions (on Android, iOS & HTML5)
Additionally, mobile users will notice that this version fixes the inaccurate Android touches from certain manufacturers (OnePlus, LG and Redmi). We've been working hard to include this fix, so these mobile users won't deal with this issue anymore. Engine users should also notice that we fixed the conversions of text to any numbers that were stored in variables because it greatly impacted the stored numbers in variables on Andriod, iOS and HTML5.
Smoother Animations in the 3D Action-RPG Template
Apart from making Android fixes, users should see smoother animations in the 3D Action-RPG Template. We were able to fix the rendering overlaps and smooth out the animation stuttering. Additionally, we fixed the missing airplane animation as well.
Log Messages Won't Disappear Over Time
Users have submitted reports that the log messages were not disappearing over time after executing custom events within the map/interface editors. We fixed that issued and hope that you take advantage in using custom events within the map/interface editors. As a quick reminder, we recently released a new feature from the previous update that enables users to click "list" option in custom events and network messages. Game developers who are making a life simulator game in a farm environment might find it beneficial to have a custom event that lists the animals, animal actions and more.
Too Many Terraformations
We've gotten reports from folks who experienced an issue when creating too many terraformations. We've fixed the problem and wanted to mention that more users should often use the terraformation system. The tile terraformation window allows the user to utilize concave and convex tiles (as well as neighboring tiles as an option), which means that that the user can ultimately change how a pool of water should be visually seen when it on the ground or grass tiles. Variability options (like color and rotation) are also available to the user when making a change in the terraformation.
Map Boundary Connections & Party Crashes
After talking about terraformation, maybe some folks might want to create a race car game or a project involving vehicles. If so, game developers will be excited to know that we corrected the vehicles for not properly responding to the map boundary connections. For engine users who are not interested involving any vehicles, we also fixed some crashes that focuses on the player or party. We fixed the crash when the user is changing the starting player's location in setting while no maps or interfaces are loaded, and we fixed the crash when attempting to remove a party member from an empty party.
Highlights from the Previous Updates
Please be sure to always check if you are using the latest version. We've fixed many things and continue to bring new changes. One of those changes include fixing graphics that turned into white squares after restarting a game in a built PC/Steam game. Another change includes improving the video card capability of 3D models with more than 40 bones when users reported seeing graphical glitches with 3D models in general. Besides getting an update that fixes issues, you gain some cool features as well. We expanded the script options for map events. These options include changing the maximum and minimum speed as well as the opacity for the clouds and rain.
As always, we appreciate the continued support and feedback that we receive from both the community and our Patreons. You can view the full list of changes for the newest update and the previous ones from the changelog: https://001gamecreator.com/changes/

The new version (v2021.003.000) of 001 Game Creator is finally available! Thanks to the feedback from the community and our Patreons, we’re able to put together a great update. Download this new version now to access the new features, performance improvements and bug fixes.
New Features - (New Use Values, List Option & GIF Import)
Before this public release, the Patreon community first accessed the Beta version of this update (and other cool Patreon benefits that you can find here). It includes new features, with one of them being a new “List” option to custom events and network messages. Now, you can create custom lists of options. The second new feature enables the user to access the list of the project’s globals through the “Global Variables Collection” and “Switches Collection” use values. The third feature enables the user to be able to import GIF files through the sprite editor when adding “Image Files”.
New Map Weather Events & Improved Options
Besides adding new features, we have also expanded the script options for map events, so users can create interesting atmospheres and captivating scenes on any map! These options include changing the maximum and minimum speed as well as the opacity for the clouds and rain. Users can also choose a script to change the cloud/rain sprites or the script to change wind direction. We have also greatly improved the range used for each weather slider, making it far easier to setup rain and clouds!
Text Scripting Codes Displayed on Wiki Pages (Use Values & Events)
Besides updating the engine with cool new features and options, we’ve also updated our wiki pages to display text scripting codes. This is a useful reference for anyone using the text scripting mode, as you no longer have to convert graphical scripts to figure out text scripting codes! Check out the updated wiki pages here: https://001gamecreator.com/wiki/events/ https://001gamecreator.com/wiki/usevalues/
Improved Video Card Capability (Resolved 3D Model/Bones Issues)
Although we have implemented new things inside and outside of the engine, we’ve also worked on bugs/issues that were reported to us. These reports include graphical glitches with 3D models in general for some users. To resolve the issue, we improved the video card capability of 3D models with more than 40 bones.
Saving Issues
We’ve also gotten reports regarding when someone is saving and loading games. Fortunately, this new version will be able to resolve them. You can expect a fix for Android games loading incorrectly and games that have variables containing empty arrays crashing. We’ve even fixed the crash when loading a minimalistic saved game when equipment items are based on a template.
Apart from the major fixes mentioned above, we also handled other minor problems. Engine users will no longer lose resources when playing a built game that has restarted at least once, and they can now use underscores in Android IDs. In the MMORPG template, we fixed the error when the number of connections to the server exceeded 100. To improve the engine’s usability and performance, we removed all superfluous quotation marks from listings in graphical scripter event windows and made “Ignore Obstacles” as a default for lights.
