001 Game Creator: 2025 Edition - Lee (Alomerain)
We've updated 001 Game Creator to v2019.001.003 which includes some very important fixes to our initial UNICODE implementation and mobile builds!

UNICODE Implementation Fixes

In our last announcement, we revealed our first implementation of UNICODE support in 001 Game Creator (a long-time requested feature from our community). Since then, we've worked with our users on refining this implementation - most notably in fixing an issue with certain international configurations of Windows that would cause characters to display incorrectly.

Additionally, we've made it easier to add/remove certain blocks of characters to your fonts with the appropriately named "Add Block" and "Remove Block" buttons. There's even a "Custom" option, where you can specify a UNICODE hex range to add specific groups of characters!

We will continue to improve our UNICODE implementation over the coming weeks/months so that all necessary parts of the engine can display these characters correctly. We'd also like to thank those of you that have been helping us to improve our UNICODE implementation!

Numerous Editor Start Up Crash Fixes

While working to re-create the UNICODE problems some users were experiencing, we noticed several areas where 001 Game Creator would crash upon start up if the user's video card didn't properly support windowed swap chains, advanced material shaders, texture colour mapping, or large textures used by system fonts.

If you've previously experienced crashes when starting 001 Game Creator then these fixes should make a huge difference!

Android/iOS Build Fixes

Another important fix in this update is the Android/iOS build functionality that wasn't working as intended. You should now be able to build your game for Android and iOS without issue - we've also fixed an issue where built APK files would crash upon start up!

Additionally, for those of you with larger games, we've fixed an issue that resulted in an error during the build process.

As always, you can see a full list of changes here: http://001gamecreator.com/changes/

Full UNICODE Support (Beta)

Perhaps one of the most requested features, and also one of the most challenging features to implement, is the ability to fully support UNICODE characters to allow for foreign languages like Russian and Chinese (which previously weren't supported).

With 001 being built on VB6 (which doesn't natively support UNICODE characters) this was always seen as an impossible feature request...That is until now! We'll spare you the boring technical details and just say that a new discovery was recently found that would allow 001 to support these characters with only a little work on our end - and so we're pleased to announce that UNICODE support is finally available in 001 Game Creator!

However, since this is still only our first implementation, we'd like to hear input/feedback from our community! There are also still some things not implemented to support UNICODE fully in some parts of the engine.

(Some screenshots showcasing Russian characters):

Please Note: You'll need to explicitly add UNICODE characters to your font files first - otherwise they won't be recognised in-game!

Improvements To Fonts

Our UNICODE implementation has also had an added benefit to fonts in general as we've now managed to pack characters in better which means that the padding option is no longer necessary in most cases. As such, the look of characters will appear more natural than before (where spacing wasn't being properly obeyed)

We've also enlarged font images from 2048x1024 to 2048x2048 so that fonts can store more characters!

A Few Smaller User-Requested Features

While UNICODE support is one of the largest feature requests implemented in this version - we've also taken the time to implement a few smaller requests that didn't require much time to add. These include:

Change Reverse, Rising and Falling Speed Events - Three new events that change the Reverse Speed, Rising Speed and Falling Speed of Actors has been added.

Screen Size/Orientation Changed Interface Trigger - A brand new Interface Trigger has been added that runs whenever the size of the game window is changed (Windows/HTML5) or when the orientation of the screen is changed (iOS/Android).

Change Currency Symbol Visual Setting - You can now effortlessly change the currency symbol used for Money by going to Game Settings > Visual Settings. This is also useful, given the implementation of UNICODE and the various different types of currencies used around the globe.

You can see the full list of changes for v2019.001.000 over on our website here: https://001gamecreator.com/changes/

Until Next Time...

We'll continue to improve UNICODE support over the next few months so please let us know if you run into any problems!

We've also been keeping an eye on our Feature Requests page and will be looking into some of these in the coming months as well!
001 Game Creator: 2025 Edition - Lee (Alomerain)
We've updated 001 Game Creator to fix a critical crash some Windows 10 users were experiencing. We've also made some additional changes/added some new things that we've documented below.

v1.020.010

Windows 10 Crash Fix - We've recently fixed an issue that resulted in some Windows 10 users experiencing crashes when opening certain editor windows. If you've been experiencing random crashes while using Windows 10 then this update should hopefully address that issue!

Android Build Update - We've updated game building for Android which now requires the Android SDK/NDK to be installed in addition to Java Development Kit (JDK). This now means that Android games can be distributed to the Amazon App Store and other store fronts that require a DEX file to be generated.

NEW Screenshot Capture/Manager - We've added a new screenshot capture tool to the Game Debugger that allows you to effortless screenshot your game while testing. All of the captured screenshots are then stored inside a manager (which will launch automatically after closing your game). You can also submit them to our website by entering your email address and providing a brief description.

NEW Reset Interface When Screen Changes - Lastly, we've added a new Interface Properties option to automatically reset an Interface when the screen size changes. This feature is useful for Interfaces with alternate layouts - as it now means Interfaces can update when a mobile device's orientation is changed or when a Windows form is resized without needing to manually reset the Interface. It also works with HTML5 games too (when resizing the browser window)!

For a full list of changes, please see our change log here: https://001gamecreator.com/changes/

Year End Review

Over the past year, we’ve added a whole bunch of new features to 001 (and fixed a ton of bugs too!) We also launched our new Feature Requests vote box and have already completed our first request (Oscillate Sequence Mode for Sprites) which will be available in the next version! We also released our Enhanced RPG DLC Kit with a fully customisable Turn-Based Battle System that many of you have already started making use of in your games.

What's Next?

Looking towards 2019, we will strive to fulfil as many feature requests as reasonably possible (you can suggest your own here) – while also launching new exciting DLC Kits that open up even more possibilities for game making! We appreciate all of your continued support throughout the year and would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

See you in 2019!

Enhanced RPG Kit

While our Enhanced RPG Kit is not a part of the Steam Autumn Sale (given that we only just recently released it) we wanted to take this time to say how happy we are to have received so many positive comments about this latest DLC Kit!

Speaking of which, we've also updated the Enhanced RPG Kit to address a few issues some of you ran into. You can see the full patch notes here.

Feature Requests

We also recently unveiled our new feature requests vote box and are pleased to see people making fast use of it! We want to take this opportunity to remind those of you, who may not yet be aware of it, that we're currently taking feature requests from the community so we have a clear idea of what it is you want to see added next.

Make sure you also vote on features you really like to increase their priority!

Yes, at long last, we are ready to unveil our new Enhanced RPG Kit that features a fully functional Turn-Based Battle System!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/977250

First and foremost, check out the updated "New Game" window that will appear when creating a new project. We've separated all DLC Kits into their own list (to the right) and merged all the built-in projects and demo games in the list to the left.

We've also added a small blurb to remind our users that DLC Kits DO NOT restrict functionality - meaning you can freely create an MMORPG without the MMORPG Kit or create a 3D FPS without the 3D FPS / Survival Horror Kit!

Now let's get to the juicy stuff, the Enhanced RPG Kit itself!

While turn-based battles are an exciting part of this new DLC kit, it's not the only thing RPG fans will come to appreciate. We've overhauled a ton of built-in systems specifically for this kit including (but not limited to):

NEW User Interface/HUD

We've given the default user interface and player HUD an extensive make over in the Enhanced RPG Kit! Take a look:

NEW Quest System

The Enhanced RPG Kit also features a fancy new quest system that allows users to effortlessly setup all kinds of fun and interesting quests for players to embark on. There's even a quest menu where you can see all of your active and completed quests - now that's useful!

NEW Turn-Based Battle System

OK! We know this is what you're really here for! Yes, with the Enhanced RPG Kit you can create both Action-RPG battles and Turn-Based battles! While the tools to create a TBBS have existed for some time now, there's no denying that creating one can be rather tricky - so being able to simply pick apart and use a pre-built TBBS is far more convenient!

And So Much More!

We've barely begun to scratch the surface with everything this kit has to offer. For the full list of features be sure to check out the Enhanced RPG Kit Store Page

Feature Requests Are OPEN!

At long last, we've finally released a brand new feature requests vote box that will allow our users to submit features they'd like to see added to 001 and that other users can vote on! This will help our team to better understand what it is our users want the most!

To request a new feature, simply go to Help > Feature Requests inside 001 Game Creator itself. You'll then be taken to a special page on our website where you'll be able to submit your idea. Once approved, your idea will then be visible for all to see and other users can then vote on the ideas they like the most!

NEW Version (v1.020.007)

We've also updated 001 Game Creator to the latest version (v1.020.007) which includes a handful of new small additions such as an opacity/alpha slider for the Map Parallax colour option, an "Enable/Disable Lighting" Actor event, and a "Change Display Name" Field event.

Additionally, we've added a new "Change FOV" Camera View Field event which should prove especially useful for those of you developing 3D games!

See the full list of changes on our website.

Until Next Time...

Now that our feature requests vote box is open, it's time to start submitting your ideas! Who knows, maybe your idea will be added to the next version of 001 Game Creator!

A new retro music pack, a new video tutorial and a new version of 001 Game Creator! We have a lot to share today, so let's waste no time and get straight into the juicy details!

Retro Fantasy Music Pack

First and foremost, we've launched a new Retro Fantasy DLC Music Pack that features 20 new fantastical music tracks for your listening pleasure.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/951950/

While on the subject of resource packs, we want to take this opportunity to let our community know that if anybody is interested in producing graphics for a future asset pack then please get in contact with us through our contact form on our website.

Sprites Tutorial

The first video in our new video tutorial series is now available on our official YouTube channel! This new series will cover resource creation and our first video is specifically focussed on Sprites! Stay tuned for future video tutorials detailing other types of resources like Tile-Sets and Items!

For optimal viewing, we recommend watching this video tutorial on YouTube directly.

NEW Version (v1.020.006)

We've also updated 001 Game Creator to v1.020.006 with several reported bug fixes and a couple of new additions we'd like to highlight:

- Project Folder - We've added "Open Project Folder" and "Open Saved Games/Data Folder" options to the Tools menu for quick access to your project folders. We often see questions from users asking where their games are stored so this should make things a lot simpler than manually navigating to them.

- Disable Parallax Lighting - We've added a "Disable Lighting" parallax option to control whether a parallax background/foreground is affected by the sun's lighting.

- Resource Packs - We've added a "Downloadable Resource Packs" window to the editor to easily download and import resource packs to your 001 games - including the Free DLC Music Pack we released some time ago (that very few people have been using due to how awkward it was to manually import them).

See the complete list of changes here.

Until next time...

Thanks, as always, for your continued support. We're interested in hearing your feedback on our new Retro Fantasy Music Pack as well as our new Sprites Tutorial so please let us know what you think of them!

We have a new version of 001 that fixes a whole bunch of issues and also a brand new website that we're finally unveiling to the public!

NEW Website

After many months of hard work, we've finally built a brand new website for 001! Our old website was looking pretty dated, and a lot of the information was similarly out of date, so we've spent some time creating this new website to provide users with a better experience and to also introduce a host of new services in the process!

NEW Standalone Version - We used to offer a cheaper subscription version of 001 that required users to pay a monthly fee to continue using its features however on numerous occasions we noticed Steam users asking whether they needed a subscription on top of their one-time purchase. It's this confusion which led us to offering a standalone version instead. The standalone version has the same exact features, at the same price as the Steam version but without needing Steam itself.

NEW Game Submission - Our new game submission system allows you to showcase your 001-created games with the world! It also allows for HTML5 games to be submitted and played directly on our website!

NEW Services - On top of that, we've introduced a whole bunch of new services that we'll be offering starting today! These paid services range from one-on-one support to asset creation and even full game publishing/optimisation! Whether you need some assistance where you can speak directly to another person or you need some graphics/music to be created to sprue up your project or you need help publishing and marketing your game on platforms like Steam, then we've got you covered!

Also, all services are currently listed at introductory prices!

NEW Version (v1.020.003)

We've also updated 001 Game Creator to v1.020.003 which contains a host of bug fixes as well as a couple of new additions and changes. Here are some highlights:

- Added importing/exporting of TXT/CSV files for Collection and Table editors respectively.

- Added "Retrieve Position X/Y" options for Fields.

- Made it warn in log when projectiles instantly hit the ground, with a legacy option to disable it; will never show up in built games.

- Fixed AI Actors not going back to post when enemy is too far (it was also not properly triggering "Lost enemy" in that case).

- Improved game load times, especially on HTML5

The following all generally encompass that Actor movement has been resolved in several ways:

- Fixed collision/walking bugs introduced in last version, by properly fixing flat Actors going through the ground.

- Applied smooth Actor auto-climbing to event/AI-based movement and velocity based movements.

- Made Actor auto-climbing higher when Actor's speed is higher.

You can see the full list of changes at this new location here: https://engine001.com/changes/

Until Next Time...

We're still hard at work on our upcoming Turn-Based RPG Template and will have more details to share with you soon! As always, we appreciate your continued support of this project and we hope you're looking forward to seeing what we have coming down the pipeline in the upcoming months!
