Yesterday we hosted our very first Devstream on Twitch! Brent and Pat run us through the introduction to the game, and the core mechanics with a little help from some friends!

We started out in the Valley of the Ascendants, the first of four massive biomes that players will explore upon arriving in Eden. After a short walk down from their cliff vista overlooking the Crucible, Pat crafted himself his first piece of gear with some pieces of fungus he scavenged along the way.

The guys then met up with some tribes mates at the Crucible and take on their first siege, placing down some simple stickpot traps and auto-turrets to ambush the medusas coming up the lane to attack the Crucible.

After unlocking a major tech upgrade, metallurgy. The tribe ventures out to the sulphur beaches to find some new materials. Along the way they discover a Telesite, which when activated, will allow them and their tribe to quickly teleport across the map.

Finally, the guys find the items they need to collect precious metals on Eden and craft themselves a heavy hitting hammer weapon. All weapon types have a range of upgrades and improvements that can be discovered, too bad for our developers that the hammer upgrade needed more monster parts!

The stream ended with a few questions from viewers including 'will there be a single player mode?'. The answer being yes! You can tune your servers difficulty at any time, or create a single player server for yourself when you first start playing.

There were a lot more questions answered in the stream of course, so make sure to check out the full video below!

Tune in each week for chances to win access to the Beta release and have your questions answered live by the developers.

In the previous blogs for Eden Rising we talked about the visual look and feel for the world and the tribe of characters who are exploring it. This week, we’ll discuss something we’re sure everyone is curious about — gear! Because every explorer needs an arsenal of equipment up their sleeve to survive on a planet full of hostile aliens, no?

When you create your character and step into the strange alien world for the first time you’ll notice that there are no hard classes in Eden. Instead, you can customize your gear to suit your needs as you progress. If you’re classically inclined toward the gaming ‘holy trinity’ of tank, support, and DPS then Eden’s got you covered. But you’re also free to mix and match combinations and create something to fit your playstyle.

Check out the playlist of rendered turnarounds on our Youtube Channel!
Armor and weapons work together to create powerful synergies. Choose between speed, stamina, raw power, or support. Each can be upgraded for added effects and improved stats.

Do you enjoy playing a heavily armored, heavy hitter? Put together a tank-y build by pairing up the super tough, but stamina reducing Bone Armor, with a slow swinging hammer. Pull aggro and make each hit count by cracking open an enemy’s armor, allowing your teammates sporting agile weapons like the glaive and spear to dive in and cut it to shreds.

In addition to your personal equipment synergies, there are also synergies that you can take advantage of between tribe members. Equip a ranged weapon and apply a charge to a creature, then have a tribemate hit them with a Polarity Rod to cause an explosive energy discharge for massive damage!

There are even more synergies to discover between your gear and the traps and turrets you can craft. We’ll be discussing these in more depth next week. Combined with six unique weapon families, and multiple armor types in Early Access (and plenty more planned!), there’s tons of options for every explorer taking on the World of Eden.

Each week we will release a new blog post discussing Eden Rising, its development, and upcoming dates. Would you like to learn more about Eden? Make sure to follow us for all the latest updates, concept art, and more!

From your first steps onto Eden, you’ll encounter the ubiquitous purple fungus scattered through the Valley.

Though it resembles the Earth-bound varieties at home, Eden’s fauna always has a bite – this fungus is hard as rock and razor-edged. The perfect starter ingredient!

The Fungal Armor is one of the first pieces of protective gear you encounter on Eden. Don’t be fooled by its colorful appearance, it’s tougher than it looks! Infusing the hard fungus with the power of the Ascendants, the Fungal Armor provides a good balance of protection and speed.

Flashy slashes and acrobatic moves characterize the glaives.

Cut down swathes of enemies with this specialized blade. Long combos and multiple target attacks build up to massive damage.

Light armors play well with the glaive, giving more mobility and dodge to maximize combos.

In last week's development blog we talked about the art and design philosophy for the player characters of Eden Rising: human explorers lost on an alien world, surviving by integrating the strange power of the Ascendants into their bodies. Today, we’ll talk a little about the ideas and art direction of Eden itself.

The alien world of Eden is, at a glance, an incredibly lush and vibrant place. However, within its sprawling landscape lies many dangers and hazards. When designing the look and feel of the world we wanted to ensure that while pleasing to look at, the world also signaled its dangers to its human explorers.

For example: the vibrant green waters bubbling along the beaches and forming pools and lakes along the valleys -- they eat away the stone with their corrosive properties. Or the towering orange fungi creating an alien silhouette against the sky, reminiscent of deadly toadstools on Earth. Much like a poison arrow frog signaling its deadly nature with vibrant color, so too does the world of Eden.

While traversing Eden in search of valuable materials, an explorer will notice much of the flora and fauna are reminiscent of the ocean. Colorful swaying plant life, bulbs, and coral-like growths rising out of sandy seabeds or rock. This was all in service of creating the feeling that this world is not so friendly to sustaining human life. Even the creatures of Eden themselves share many of these traits, the goal being to make them feel like a blend of plant and animal, an extension of Eden itself.

In addition to the global look and feel of Eden, the world is also comprised of several unique and vibrant biomes. Each location has its own colorful atmosphere, creatures, materials, and a Crucible for tribes to discover. For early access launch there will be four fully completed biomes, with many more planned.
