Sonic The Hedgehog

This is... well, it's certainly something. It's an eighteen-and-a-half minute Sonic fan film, created by the folks at Blue Core Studios.

It's... amazing.

Sonic The Hedgehog

Sonic The Hedgehog released in 2006 sure is a terrible game. The duo known as Game Grumps learned this the hard way, and broadcasted their experience playing the game for their audience about a month ago.

The original, which you can watch down below, is pretty funny on its own. But it also inspired possibly the silliest Source Filmmaker video (above) that I have seen so far.

Have you guys heard of Game Grumps? Have you heard of JonTron—known for raging against terrible games—and egoraptor—known for his cartoon videos—two YouTubers we've featured here on Kotaku before?

The two have come together to form Game Grumps, playing a lot of awful retro titles (among other games) for the amusement of their audiences. They're great together.

But the reenactment video above by thatscoutisaspy? That's something just as special.

There's More Than a Little Sonic the Hedgehog in Major MagnetCheck out this screenshot for Major Magnet, an iOS platformer hitting iTunes on January 10. What does it remind you of? Can you imagine a blue hedgehog with red shoes running around on it?

The similarities between Major Magnet and Sonic the Hedgehog are not coincidence. The team at PagodaWest Games working on the new game have always held Sega's mascot in the highest regard. They even worked on the Sonic 2 HD fan project, helping smooth out the jaggy edges on one of Sonic's greatest adventures.

That doesn't mean that Major Magnet is a mere Sonic clone. Rather than controlling the game's titular hero with a virtual joystick and buttons, players will manipulate the environment to guide him from point A to point B. In this teaser trailer for the game we see the player turning on and off magnets to propel the good Major along his path.

Major Magnet, or Marv to his friends, is a lovable, bumbling sort of hero, one that takes being affixed to a magnet and launched all over Sonic-esque environments in stride. He's a better man than I.

Yep, the inspiration is clear—that's some quality Sonic homage there.

I've not gotten a chance to try my hand at guiding the Major myself, but I have high hopes for the game. Mobile needs more strong characters and quality platforming games. If a heartfelt nod to one of the kings of console platforming gets the job done, then so be it.

The Sonic/Mega Man Comics Crossover Might Be the Closest We Get a Sega vs. Capcom Throwdown Let's get real: Sonic doesn't stand a chance. Sure, he's fast. You see that energy build-up in the Mega Buster pictured below? That's a recipe for roasted hedgehog, right there.

But, wait, you say! Couldn't Sonic disassemble Mega Man at super-speed before Capcom's icon could even get a blast off? The answers to these questions will hopefully be found in Archie Comics' upcoming crossover which will feature the two long-running franchise heroes. These images in this post—exclusive to Kotaku—give a taste of what to expect.

Longtime comics artist Patrick "Spaz" Spaziante will be handling the cover art for the crossover and he was kind enough to answer some questions about what it takes to draw this clash of the video game titans.

Kotaku: To you, what are the most important elements to emphasize in the two main heroes' characters designs?

The Sonic/Mega Man Comics Crossover Might Be the Closest We Get a Sega vs. Capcom Throwdown Spaziante: For the Sonic side I'd have to say speed, while Mega Man has the power (Megabuster). It seems obvious, but those two elements really do guide how you draw the character in almost every situation, whether it be a fight or a conversation.

Kotaku: Were there any games in particular from the Sonic or Mega Man series that inspired a visual take on the various characters?

The Sonic/Mega Man Comics Crossover Might Be the Closest We Get a Sega vs. Capcom Throwdown Spaziante: With Mega Man, definitely Mega Man 8 and the little-known Rock Man & Forte from the Super NES Era, (a dash of the Rock Man Power Battle arcades series thrown in for good measure). From the Sonic side, we like to keep to the most current designs, basically anything from the Dreamcast era like Sonic Adventure, up to the most current releases like Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing Transformed.

Kotaku: Is there anything you're doing with the art to try and communicate that these are two very different heritages/sensibilities that are clashing in the crossover event?

The Sonic/Mega Man Comics Crossover Might Be the Closest We Get a Sega vs. Capcom Throwdown Spaziante: As much as I would love to explore the different house styles of each heritage, we need to make sure the characters and their universes gel together in the comic seamlessly, so we have chosen a hybrid of the Capcom and Sega styles.

Kotaku: Have you had the freedom to diverge from the way the characters have been visually presented before? What kind of changes have you made?

Spaziante: Yes and no, minor artistic interpretation on my part is allowed here and there, but each company has a set guideline for their characters, and I try not to deviate too far from that. We want to remain as respectful as possible to the Japanese designs, while delivering solid American comic book storytelling. It's a fine line to walk, but Archie has been doing it for quite a while now, with Mega Man for the past few years, and with Sonic for twenty years come 2013!

Kotaku: Which character has won you over while you've been drawing them? Who's an absolute chore to get onto the page?

Spaziante: As I have had past experience with both character groups for many years, (especially Sonic), I'd have to say I am pretty comfortable with both universes. If you are asking for favorites, I'd have to say Mecha Sonic from the Sonic Universe & Bass from the Mega Man Universe. On the difficult side, sometimes ANY character, even one you've drawn many times, can fall victim to "artist block"- so I guess it depends on how tired I am, or close to deadline!

Seems Like Sonic the Hedgehog Will Be Getting New Games Next Year The recent release history for games featuring Sega's mascot has been a tumultuous one. But the blue speedster continues to lure players in with hopes that the new games will channel in some of the charm and challenge of olden times.

According to multiple sources—GameRanx, Official Nintendo Magazine UK, VideoGamer and Nintendo Everything—that cycle will likely start up again with new digital and boxed titles that will be hitting next year. Speaking originally to Toys ‘n' Playthings Magazine, European head of brand licensing Sissel Henno said:

"We will have several new digital titles launching as well as a new boxed game, so there will be plenty of opportunities to link martketing campaigns across games and merchandise."

No further details about the in-development games were divulged but it seems entirely likely that Sonic would find a home on the Wii U and 3DS. Maybe even the Vita, too.

There is nothing more sadly humorous than a someone trying to go by a self-conceived nickname.

A nickname is something given to you by other people. With the dawning of the internet age a person can have a certain amount of control over what they are called, but someone can really do with an internet handle is narrow down the choices other people have. For instance, when I first hit the BBS scene, pre-internet, I went by Wintermute, an ostentatious character name I had absolutely no reason to adopt, other than I thought it was cool.

Within a few months of getting involved in the local BBS scene, I was known as Wintermuffle, largely due to an incident with my first wife in a closet during a birthday party. Years later everyone just knows me as Fahey.

Or Big Dog.

Excerpts From an Erotic Shadow the Hedgehog/Borderlands Fan FictonSearching as I do from time to time through the video game crossover wonderland that is FanFiction.net, I happened to turn off the mature story filter for a split-second, during which I encountered the raunchiest, steamiest Shadow the Hedgehog-meets-Borderlands story I've ever read.

It's also the only one, but that's not important right now. What is important is that author Lil Knucklez has captured the very souls of Borderlands' Lilith and Maya and Sonic the Hedgehog's "ultimate life form". Then he makes them have sex.

First, a little set-up.

Author Note: After I've watch some Bonderlands 1 and 2 gameplay and some playthrough to it and this gave me an idea. Why not put the Ultimate Life Form with the 2 sirens together.

This is a perfectly legitimate idea to have after watching some Bonderlands 1 and 2 gameplay. If your first thought after seeing a female character in a clip from a video game isn't "Hey, they should have sex with an anthropomorphic hedgehog", then maybe you should take a good long look inside yourself.

This tale, titled "Hedgehog and his Sirens" (not to be confused with the sequel), sees Shadow tooling about town on his motorcycle when his phone rings.

"Hey Shadow, me and my friend here would like some company. Come on over" the unknown female replied

"I don't know"

"C'mon, we're lonely here and we want to have some fun. Please come over and don't keep us waiting"

"Well… Ok, send you asked nicely. I'll be there in about 4 minutes"

Right off the bat Shadow establishes his dominance, making the mysterious woman wait for his answer. And 4 minutes? This is a fuzzy little critter that knows where he's going and how long it takes to get there; not five minutes, not a minute — 4 minutes.

That doesn't leave them much time to make microwave popcorn. And just who are they anyway?

Minutes later, Shadow arrived at the destination. He heads inside the residence and closed the door. The 2 ladies notice Shadow as they walk up to him as one female has red hair whose name is Lilith and the second female had blue hair as her name was Maya. The 2 ladies walked up towards Shadow and putting their hands on him and snuggled up to him seductively.

"We've been waiting for you, Ultimate Life Form" Lilith cooed as she and Maya began to kiss on Shadow smoothly and rapidly

Lil Knucklez is obviously well-versed in the physical arts. "Smoothly and rapidly". Now that's hot. Smoothly.

In the interest of keeping this PG-rated I'll skip the bits about hands slipping down towards places hedgehogs won't normally give up without horrible puncture wounds. Suffice it to say that just as things are about to get all dirty, Lilith and Maya decide to put on a little show.

Lilith and Maya giggled and they got up from the bed as they head to the pole and start to dance. Lilith put on some soft music as the song began to play Gucci Mane: I Don't Love Her ft. Rocko and Webbie. Lilith and Maya dance to the song to the pole and start to move their hips to the song. Shadow starts to enjoy the show as he put his hands behind his head and just watch the 2 sirens dance.

In the interest of setting the correct mood for this scene, I've included the official music video for Gucci Mane's "I Don't Love Her ft. Rocko and Webbie". It's pretty easy to imagine the rest now, isn't it? Glad I could help.

"You like what you see here, baby" Maya asked

"You bet I am ladies, why don't you ladies come over here and get all of this pleasure" Shadow commanded as he gave them a come here finger

Come here fingers: Now available in your grocer's freezer.

The rest of the story gets incredibly dirty in an inept sort of way, so I'll just rapid-fire a few short lines for your consideration.

"Lilith and Maya smiled as they drop it low and start to crawl to the bed seductively and smoothly like a kitty cat."

"YYYYYEEEEESSS SHAAAAAAADOOOOOOOOOOOW"

"Well I'm glad that we had this fun and a good time ladies"

"Well in the meantime ladies, since we're all worn out for the last longing sex. How about we all go to sleep now"

After a prolonged period of extra consonants and vowels the ending is just as satisfying as you've probably imagined by now. Lil Knucklez proves his passing familiarity with sexual acts again and again until he the characters collapse, breathless and satisfied.

He could have stopped the story there, but he can't resist taking one final shot at the lesser hedgehog of the series.

Sonic nodded and they walk back to Tail's place but suddenly, they then notice Shadow and the 2 siren ladies were up on him as they were walking together and the 2 siren ladies were smiling.

"Wow… Shadow got the ladies in his touch" Sonic exclaimed

"Uh huh…" Tails replied

There's No Running in the Next Mobile Sonic the Hedgehog Game He's blue. He's spiky. He's the fastest character in the video game universe, at least when he's running. This Thursday Sega releases Sonic Jump for iOS.

Today Sega tweeted the first screen for Sonic Jump, a reworking of a game Sega released in Japan back in 2005. It looks like Doodle Jump. It probably plays a lot like that too.

Sonic Jump will be available on Thursday worldwide for $1.99, AUD$1.99, £1.49 and €1.59.
