Arizona Sunshine® - Vertigo Games
Do we really have to go into a dark mine full of zombies?

Well...yes, but there is a plus side. It isn't so damn hot underground.

The Ol' Dutchman Mine complex is a tourist destination offering the once peaceful residents of Arizona a chance to delve into their past.

Each shadow, crevice, and tunnel opening is a potential threat. Changing tactics may be a good idea. There's not much room to move in a tunnel, making them a natural choke point, an easy zombie kill zone. It's also a good reason not run blindly around corners yourself.

The mine is not all one tunnel though. There are larger spaces with more room to move and branching tunnels, so you may have to improvise your tactics a bit.

We are pumped for some of you to try the game early in the closed beta. Be sure to sign up for a chance at the beta at www.arizona-sunshine.com.

In two weeks, we will announce the official details on how participants will be selected and when the closed beta will occur.

That's right, we are going to conduct a closed beta as we get closer to release. The participants will be randomly selected from the subscribers to our newsletter. You can sign up at arizona-sunshine.com . We will be sharing more details over the next few weeks, so stay on the look out for further announcements about the closed beta.

We don't always post everything in the newsletter here, but given the response this newsletter has received, we thought we would share it. Enjoy!

This week we are sharing updated in-game environments. For instance, some of you may recognize similarities between the image above and the bridge scene in our first demo. In the scene above, the canyon bottom is now a river. Water effects, wind whipping through the brush, and dust sweeping the canyon floor will all be shown in VR.

Other environments offer a trip through the remnants of human society in the Arizona desert. Did they leave anything useful behind in these cars?

Are they unoccupied?

Artifacts of the zombies' more civilized roots are not limited to abandoned cars and camps. Buildings in which we used to work, sleep, and eat litter the path between you and finding the location of the mysterious radio broadcasts you keep hearing.

Clearing buildings presents a different challenge to fighting zombies in the open. On the one hand, cover is available. On the other hand, there are limited entrances and exits.

Can you use these to your advantage?

We hope so.

Guns are not always the best tools to use to survive in Arizona Sunshine.

If you find yourself surrounded, you can use a grenade to deal with one direction and unload your guns in the other directions. Don't want to deal with entering a room full of zombies? You guessed it...use grenades!

Check out an in game video of them in action here.
https://www.facebook.com/arizonasunshinegame/videos/1792640744292305/

Grenades are the most versatile get-out-of-trouble tool in first-person shooters, and let's admit it, they are just cool.

Imagine grenades in VR with shrapnel flying past your head. You will really feel as if you are in the middle of the battle.

Grenades are not the only throwing weapons in your arsenal. Throwing a knife offers a less noisy option of killing zombies, so you won't be attracting as much attention to yourself.

Inventory management is also easier with knives. Just pull it out of the dead zombie and use again.

More to come.

So, zombies...they are all the same, right? Not a chance. They all have unique personalities.

Well not really, but some run, others walk, and a few have been known to climb walls or leap over large objects.

Zombies don't feel pain, so if you shoot off a leg, they just crawl towards you instead. Head shots are also no guarantee to put down a rabid zombie.

Using an Intel i7 processor, our physics and particle systems turn the zombie into part of a destructible VR environment that creates skull splitting head shots, severed limbs, and lots of blood.

But that's really just for starters. Sign up for more info at http://www.arizona-sunshine.com/

What do you need to survive a zombie apocalypse?

Guns. Lots of guns.

Arizona Sunshine will have 25 different guns for you to use on the zombie hordes. Love the Desert Eagle? Go for it, but you might wish you picked up the Uzi when you run into a group of your zombie friends in a canyon. Each gun has pluses and minuses depending on the situation and how you play.

We leave it to you to decide which weapon to carry. Do you want a machine gun with a high rate of fire forcing you to reload frequently or a close quarters weapon, like a shotgun, but with a slow reload?

Weapons can also come equipped with tools, such as a flashlight, that come in handy when the lights go out...
