Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is set to welcome its first slice of DLC this month, which will see the return Human Revolution s Frank Pritchard.

In System Rift, due September 23, protagonist Adam Jensen will reunite with his friend and former colleague Pritchard in a bid to get the skinny on the ever-mysterious Santeau Group. Desperate to get more information, Pritchard targets one of the most secure data banks ever created the Palisade Blade, says publisher Square Enix. In agreeing to help, Adam may also be able to uncover hints as to who the Illuminati really are.

As it stands, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided already includes a host of weird and wonderful Easter eggs, not to mention some strange art, fashion and architecture. Now it seems we can add returning pals to that list. Maybe they'll hang out together in Jensen's apartment, who knows?

System Rift is due September 23, priced at 9.50/$11.99. If you own the Season Pass it s on there as well, with the game s second offering of DLC, A Criminal Past, due next year.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is a beautiful game, but it doesn’t deal in sweeping vistas and natural beauty. Its visual currency is instead invested in ornamental stag heads, tree statuery, fluorescent lighting, swooping electrical cables and complicated ceilings and stairwells. I took 18,000 screenshots while playing the game and I’ve collected the best inside. Beware: here lie spoilers for environments, locations and, probably, with some plot details embedded within.

I am ill today. It’s my guts, you see. My Goddamned guts>. Despite my imminent death by a thousand craps, I am duty-bound to bring you the regular round-up of what sold best on Steam last week. Think of me, won’t you, as you wonder how many humans who don’t yet own Counter-Strike: Global Offensive there can possibly be in the world, and lament the total absence this week of anything we might traditionally deem to be ‘indie.’ … [visit site to read more]

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - Poticha
We have just released another PC patch for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, v1.2 build 524.15. This patch focusses on critical issues that were reported by users during the week after release.

This patch will be applied by Steam automatically when you next start the game. If your game does not update, please restart the Steam client.

The following fixes are in this patch:
• Fixed a crash during the subway loading scene.
• Fixed issue with loading a saved game while in cover and pressing [SPACE], causing Jensen to vault over cover.
• Fixed crash when leaving for Golem City.
• Fixed issues where the UI was offset at some aspect ratios, such as 21:9.
• Fixed issue where vibration was not working on gamepad.
• Fixed an issue where some keyboard language settings could cause the game to not launch (some users had a workaround by creating a new user account or by changing their keyboard language setting).
• Fixed various issues related to Breach.
• Fixed issues related to Tobii EyeTracking.

Note about performance:
We are seeing people reporting performance issues when playing the game on Very High/Ultra settings with MSAA set to 2x, 4x, or 8x. We would like to emphasize again that these options are very demanding.
We recommend everyone that is running at recommended spec or higher to start with the High Preset and MSAA turned off, and then tweak the options to optimize your experience.

While we expect this patch to be an improvement for everyone, if you do have trouble with this patch and prefer to stay on older versions, we have made a Beta available on Steam, v1.0_build 524.6, v1.0_build 524.7 and v1.1_build 524.10, that can be used to switch back to previous versions.

We will keep monitoring for feedback and will release further patches as it seems required. We always welcome your feedback!

Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (John Walker)

A second PC patch has been released for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, hopefully leaving fewer players divided (do you see, because “divided” is in the title of the game) over the annoying mouse issues, as well as other tidying up.

Adam Jensen experiences an emotion, yesterday

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided [official site] has a problem, and his name is Adam Jensen. Human Revolution’s returning protagonist has been my single greatest obstacle to enjoying a game I had, frankly, taken it for granted that I would enjoy. I don’t understand why this is his game – other than on a commercial level, of course. In the public eye, the Deus Ex brand is not the DIY route and vaguely philosophical reality-questioning that it might be to an older PC gamer. It’s The One With The Bearded Bloke With The Elbow Swords And The Sunglasses Built Into His Eye Sockets. That’s why Jensen’s back, not because the story DXMD is trying to tell needed him. If anything, he undermines it. … [visit site to read more]

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Finally, a Sonic joke in Deus Ex. Truly, this is the best time in history to be playing games. And it doesn t stop there; Mankind Divided is hiding a ton of Easter eggs in Prague, calling up everything from old memes to old politicians. Players are still digging them up, but here are some of the coolest ones found so far.

Once you've had your fill of hardboiled Easter eggs, check out the rest of our Deus Ex: Mankind Divided coverage. Read our review if you're on the edge, check out our beginners guide if you're overwhelmed, our performance guide if you want a few more frames, and our class guide to optimize your Jensen.

Knuckles & Knuckles & Knuckles

Source: /r/DeusEx

In the Deus Ex universe, Sonic presumably exists. That, or Knuckles exists, and they're working through an evident creative block trying to think him up. I'm a bit lost when it comes to the context of the Knuckles and Knuckles joke, but it's a callback to a popular YouTube video, in which Knuckles gets his due in song form. You'll find this one in Prague's posh consumer electronics shop, but you can't play it unfortunately.

PC Geek magazine looks a bit familiar...

We're not totally on board with some of PC Geek's design (that font), but we like where their heart is at. You can find the PC Gamer approximation in the shops strewn about Prague. Cabled, meanwhile, is an obvious reference to Wired.

A confusing Human Revolution cameo

I think Primer made more sense than this. Found in buried in a crate in the basement of an antique shop next to the police station in Prague, this bizarre Easter egg is essentially a confirmation that the next Deus Ex will be a wacky time-traveling adventure. Jensen and a scrappy teen, sneaking through the Wild West and feudal Japan a guaranteed hit.

Portal's Weighted Companion Cube

The antique shop basement is spilling over with references to other games, and most prominent is the Weighted Companion Cube from Portal. I like to imagine it escaped Aperture Science safely and chose to live out it days in a more comfortable underground base.

Some extremely rad roaches

I know, cockroaches aren't enough to make me think they're an Easter egg on their lonesome, but located in the same basement as a ton of other videogame props, my mind goes straight to Fallout. The first time I saw them, I instinctually hit my V.A.T.S. button before realizing my mistake.

A bleak future (with good games)

Click through the gallery to see them all.

A few more references are littered throughout the antique shop basement in the form of game boxes (remember those?). The original Hitman has been left to rot on the floor, Tomb Raider is hiding behind a table leg, and Soul Reaver gets the royal treatment up top. It's a nice indication that despite everything technology related going to hell, at least there are some decent games in Deus Ex's sad future.

Ritt Momney makes an appearance

Source: /r/DeusEx

If you see a familiar face in a newspaper early on in Mankind Divided, trust your gut and look at little closer. Yeah, it's what appears to be a photoshopped Mitt Romney smiling wide and sporting a slightly grayer cynic-cyberpunk look. Reddit user Depressed Cartoonist figured it out after finding the original pictureand comparing the two. I guess, in Deus Ex's version of the future, history really does repeat itself. It just gets a new haircut and specs before coming back around.

A Bladerunner cameo speaks up in the OST

Source: /r/DeusEx

Reddit user wayoffthegrid was jamming out to the Mankind Divided OST sampler, and noticed a short, subtle sample from Bladerunner. At 23 seconds into "Adam's Safehouse," they noticed the line "Do you like our owl?" popped up under the guise of reverb in the background. Watch the video above to see the original line from the movie and try to find it for yourself.

And surely, more secrets have yet to be uncovered. If you find any, be sure to point them out in the comments.
