Today we will be starting Season 4 of Ranked. The biggest change coming with this Season is that the Arsonist will no longer be killed be Bodyguards, or traps. This means that the Arsonist's biggest weakness is time. Can they avoid the gallows long enough to set the Town aflame.
We will be doing a soft reset this season, so you will be placed at the bottom of your tier if you are above gold, if you are silver you will be reset to 1200, and if you are bronze you will be reset to the top of bronze.
With this season we will be keeping an eye on the Jailor meta that evolved last season, and will see how the Arsonist not being able to be stopped by protective roles affects this strategy.
Before finding out your initial rating you will be playing 10 placement games.

Ranked Season 3: We will be ending Season 3 and going into off-season for a short time (a few days). Season 4 will be starting soon!
Season 3 of Ranked has gone about how we expected. The Jester change bumped up the win rates of evil roles, and brought down the win rates of of the Town.
We did see the effects that the “Jailor Meta” had at certain tiers of play, and want to make a change for this season to help address this to a degree. The change we plan to make that seemed to get quite a bit of support from one of our Dev Update posts is that the Arsonist will no longer die to the Bodyguard, or traps when they douse someone. The Arsonist has always been one of, if not the slowest, killer in the game. Due to this we feel that time being their major weakness is appropriate. This means that no protective role in the game can stop an Arsonist from dousing, or igniting a player (outside of a Guardian Angel removing a douse). We believe that this threat of being doused, and not being able to be protected, will help prevent powerful roles from claiming early in the game, as they may be killed by the Arsonist. We will be keeping an eye on the actual effect that this change will have on the game, with ranked specifically in mind. We do not believe this change will hurt any other mode to a serious degree.
With Season 3 coming to a close you will be getting rewards based on what rank you achieved. Anyone who received the rank of Gold or above will receive the Golden Doge pet.

Bug Fixes/Improvements: Fixed an issue with the Queen Skin's Hanging animation looping. Fixed a stalemate issue with Coven roles and Escort as the only roles left. The Werewolf no longer has a button to visit himself, if he doesn't target anyone he will still stay home though. If you stay home you will no longer get a message saying "You attacked someone" for selecting yourself, as you can no longer select yourself Fixed an issue where a revealed Mayor could be healed if transported. The Witch was removed from the Psychic tutorial message as part of their investigative results. Fixed an issue that would cause Customization changes to not be saved if you had No Pet selected. Fixed an issue that allowed players to spoof Jailor Death notes. Fixed an issue where the Vigilante could sometimes target another player after shooting a Town member. Fixed an issue that could allow multiple of the same Coven role to spawn in All Any. Fixed an issue where if the Witch, a Vig, and any other town role were left, if the Vig was controlled to kill the other town member the Town would win, even though the Vig should suicide leaving the Witch. Fixed an issue where if you were attacked by Medusa, healed, but killed by something that bypasses healing you would still be stoned. Fixed an issue where if you were poisoned, healed the next night, and poisoned the night you were healed you wouldn't be told you were poisoned again.

Unity Port Update: We have been making leaps and bounds of progress with the Unity port, it is looking absolutely fantastic. The port feels much smoother, it looks much better, and gives Town of Salem a much more polished feel. Look forward to another announcement in about a months time! We will be announcing the release date then. I have seen several people respond to our previous update post with all the screenshots from the mobile version of the port, and it has been overwhelmingly positive. If you haven’t seen the new updates we are making with Unity check some of them out below!

Some special menus were removed, like the Jailor’s, and you are able to just select a player during the day and select to jail them. Next to the targeting menu here you can see that roles with a special action that doesn’t target anyone/can only target one player is an clickable icon now. This will show for things like Bodyguards that have a vest left, or Arsonists who can ignite.
Today we are launching a pretty small patch, but it is packed full of bug fixes. Check out everything that has been fixed below.
Bug Fixes:
Added a sound to the Celebrate taunt.
Fixed a bug where the Crusader skin was incorrectly being labeled as she. Fixed a bug that caused the Amnesiac to be unable to remember they were a Vampire Hunter if one was currently alive. Fixed a bug where if the Jester was hanged, and did not select a target to haunt the game could select the Jester as the random target causing no one to die. Fixed a bug that caused the Doctor to not be notified they had healed their target if they healed an Escort, or Consort, that role blocked a Serial Killer. Fixed a bug where the Coven Random Neutral in Coven Custom games could spawn any role, not just Coven Random Neutral roles. Fixed a bug where the Coven Leader could not control the Vigilante to kill someone Night 1. Fixed a bug that caused traps from the Trapper to not be destroyed if the player trapped was hanged. Fixed several bugs that could allow a hacked client to do things that we did not allow, such as vote innocent on themselves, allow for multiple capital letters in a row in a users name in game, and more. Fixed a bug that caused traps to not be able to protect a Crusader. Fixed a bug that caused the Doctor to not be notified they had healed their target if they healed a killing that attacked a trapped player. Fixed a bug where if a Necromancer reanimated a dead Godfather to kill someone it gave the order to the Mafioso changing their target.

This is the only change currently being made as win rates are close to where we want them to be. We think smaller changes here and there will be what we need to bring the win rates in line.
This change allows the Jester more options on who to kill, and can allow the Jester the potential to remove roles that are more impactful from the game than before. This should make players more hesitant to vote guilty on a potential evil role as well. This has always been the general idea behind the Jester, but certain play styles have made the Jester less impactful on games than we had originally hoped. We believe this change will be good for overall health of the role, and will help it be the role it was always meant to be. A role that makes you second guess yourself when trying to hang someone.

For Ranked Season 3 we will be making a change to the "K-Factor" in our rating algorithm. What this means in non-mumbo jumbo terms is that the base rating that you will earn or lose per game will be increased. This should help push you to the tier that you belong in more quickly than last season.

Win rates from this season of ranked are getting very close to where we want them to be, even with the ever developing strategies that many of you are using. We feel that we have nailed down a solid role list with this season, and that small adjustments can be made with the current win rates to bring certain roles up or down just a bit to be exactly where we want them to be. While we have many changes planned for the future we don't want to do too much at once.
Role Changes!
The Jester can now kill any player who didn't vote INNOCENT on them if they are hanged. We feel this change will open up new avenues of play for evil roles, and help to break the meta of 1 player taking the hit for any potential Jesters. We believe this change will be good for overall health of the role, and will help it be the role it was always meant to be. A role that makes you second guess yourself when trying to hang someone.

Fixed an issue where Doctor/Crusader weren't getting notified their target was attacked by medusa. Fixed an exploit that allowed players to claim free rewards through Steam with Family Sharing. Trial System will now boot a player off the server if a report is found guilty.
