Good news! I've heard the feedback and I understand your concerns that Dark Deception is way too easy ;). Nikson and I have updated the monkeys and their AI to provide a more robust and fair gameplay experience for Chapter 1! Here's what's new:
1. Improved Monkey AI - the monkeys no longer chain together and will each actively seek out different paths to reach you. This means you can get cut off from the front, so pay attention to what's ahead of you. It's easy to focus too much on the tablet map ;).
2. Monkey proximity sound - the monkeys now make an attack sound when they get close to help you distinguish which monkey is closest and which direction they are coming from.
3. Less Monkeys - smarter AI means 4 monkeys became impossible at this point in the game when the player has no powers. There are now 3 monkeys, which means you always have a route to escape unless you corner yourself.
4. Bonus Shard - After testing a timed and infinite reveal enemies effect from the bonus shard, we've settled on a longer version of the timed effect. Reveal Enemies will now last 1 minute after collecting the red bonus shard.
5.180 Turn - You can now instantly turn 180 degrees by middle mouse clicking. You can change the assigned control input in the game launcher.
6. Toggle Sprint - If you are tired of holding Shift to run, toggle sprint on in options to always run.
7. Adaptive FOV - The FOV changes depending on player speed for improved visual feedback.
Dark Deception has passed 10k units in 4 days! It's a great start and a big thanks from myself (Vinny) and Nikson to everyone who has given our silly little horror game a try. Keep helping us share the game with other gamers and Youtubers that love horror :)!
Good news! We have an update with some bug fixes and improvements incoming. Stay tuned! Here's a list of some of the changes that will be in the update:
- Map now has a detector that points to remaining shards and level objectives once the shard count is reduced a certain amount.
- Death restart now goes to the last save point. It no longer restarts the entire level.
- Bug fixed where upon game over, quitting to the title screen quit the entire game . - Enemies take longer to spawn into the maze. More time for admiring the wall art.
- Bonus Shard reveals enemies permanently for each zone it is assigned to, but only for as long as you don't die.
- Maze map changes when in the lobby - Increased the frequency of Bierce's random lines.
Hello everyone! Let me take a moment to breath a long and weary sigh of relief. Dark Deception is the effort of myself (Vinny)and Nikson (creator of TJOC: Story Mode). As everyone who has been following DD since the original Unity demo (back in 2014) knows, it has been a really long and painful journey. However, every journey worth taking starts with a single step and this release is ours. I can't tell you how great it feels to get Dark Deception Chapter 1 out. I hope you are all having a great time with it and I want to take a moment to give you a glimpse of what's ahead in Chapter 2.
With each chapter of Dark Deception, the mazes will grow larger, more complex, more cinematic, and more dangerous (traps, hazards, etc). Many people have asked me about the school level and I'm happy to say that the school will be in Chapter 2. Agatha is coming to play with you and very soon. The cursed manor will also be part of the release. Both levels will provide hours of gameplay and replayable fun. Chapter 2 will also introduce the power system used in Dark Deception. If you've ever played any of the games from the Bioshock series, you'll feel right at home!
In the meantime, enjoy Chapter 1 and try to get the S Rank! Also, please leave us a review. Good or bad they help us improve the game and help others discover Dark Deception :)!
