Hi all, here are the latest news regarding Lost Region development.

Quests and in-game guide

We are working on the quests and in-game guide. The purpose of the in-game guide is to make it easier for new players to get into the game. To understand how to actually survive and not to starve to death. The purpose of quests will be to provide another way to get something useful and to give some other goals besides stashing all useful in the storage on your base.

Unreal 4.26

We are finishing our transfer from Unreal Engine 4.25 to Unreal Engine 4.26. Once it is done we will test all that might go wrong due to engine version swap, it will provide more game stability and some graphics improvements.

Hello guys, yet another weekly news about what's going on and just a quick heads up to keep you on track.

Craft, loot, all that you like

We are working on the enhanced craft system. This system will allow You to upgrade crafted items and will make the craft more UI friendly and more versatile. As a bonus, we are also making the loot system more advanced. Aren't you tired that closet with 4 shelves has only 1 inventory grid to loot? We are tired of it as well, with the new system you will be able to loot as much space as a certain item has.

Optimization and new stuff

Our 3D artist continues his work on the new items, and the game designer is working on the progression tree. And our level designer is working on the map optimization to get rid of annoying spikes during level loading.

Hello to all who survived.

Just a quick usual heads up.

We are continuing to work on optimization, with the upcoming patch, game will have much fewer freezes when you are approaching the location. Also, we are working on the craft list, and already testing some of the assets, we will bring it up to our testers once the preparations are done. There will be hand-made weapons, tools, and other cool stuff that you will be able to upgrade. So don't throw away your old wooden stick, it might come in handy.

Besides all that stated above. New animations are on their way. It will be nice to sit in front of a warm burning barrel and tell your mate how bravely you were, running from a wolf.

We will continue to keep you on track and soon will share some of the screenshots.

And remember, if it sticks it can kill, eventual.

Hello guys, we’ve finished our work on another small patch, this patch mostly contains optimization features. We hope you will enjoy it.

What's new:
  • Added equip option to craftable items that can be equipped.
  • Now you can’t run during eating or drinking.
  • “Item dropped” notification has been added.
  • Optimization:
    - Render bounds for huge levels were changed.
    - Render order of huge levels was optimized. Now it should load in the correct order.
    - Render distance of all levels was changed, now levels should not load in a crossfire, which should reduce the FPS drops.
  • Added console commands for server management.
    Console command list:
    /RconAuth Password - console command to log in to rcon (server only)
    /RconLogout - console command to logout from rcon (server only)
    /ChangeWorldTime 00 00 - console command to change day time (multiplayer and singleplayer)
    More commands will be added during the development.
    For console commands simply open chat and begin typing commands.

What are we working on right now?

Our game designer has finished the new craft list. In the next updates, you will see new craftable tools, weapons, placeable stuff, and new gadgets. Our 3D artist already working on the new meshes and the programmer already working on its logic.

New Animations are coming to the lost regions among with new features. We are working on more immersive animations, such as when your character is standing in a cold place he will shake and will try to warp-up.

What is coming today?

Today we will publish a small but still an important patch. It should optimize the game and make your FPS rate more stable. We are finishing the preparations for the deployment.

Hello Regioners

Today's weekly news will be more of the development dairy. So let’s cut to the chase, shall we?

Recently we’ve finished our huge patch 0.5.0.0 and right after the release, we’ve finished a smaller patch 0.5.0.1 with some minor fixes.

Currently, we are working on the game environment and by the environment, we mean PVE part. In the upcoming patch which will come out next week, we will make wolves more noticeable and scarier. Also, the UX part of the game will become better.
  • New notifications, so that player will not miss anything important.
  • Kill log which will notify the players who killed whom.
  • Targeting system for a melee weapon, it will make aiming and hitting more convenient.
  • Tear option for items that are laying on the ground, you will not need the crate to do it anymore.
  • Few small locations will be added in the upcoming patch, for map diversity.
  • And of course bug fixes, the list of fixes will come with the patch note
We will try to make these small patches every 1-2 weeks depending on the patch load, according to your feedback.

Here is one of the small locations that will come up with the patch. :)

Here is what we were doing all this time, hope you will enjoy it. :)

Please note that the game became slightly bigger. Previously it was 18 GB and now it is 36+ GB.

Also, create new save if you are using single player mod.

Now let's get to the patch.

Gameplay

Weapon damage overhaul - We’ve made a big weapon damage overhaul, now weapons both melee and firearms are more deadly. It will allow You to save more ammo in Your pockets and will make the deadly gunfight even deadlier.

Weapon unload system - Now you can unload the weapon ammo clip and unload the ammo clips to get the ammo itself. More management, more opportunities to screw something up, and as a result more fun.



Food efficiency overhaul - We’ve made some changes to the food replenishment volume. For example, now after eating a piece of bread, you will not need to drink a bottle of water which equals higher chances of survival.

Items durability - You may notice a percentage bar under each item. If previously you were forced to drink the whole bottle of water, now you can drink that much as you want. It also applies to food and medicine items. Now when you find a piece of bread and beef can you will be comparing the outcome from each item. So 10% durability can of beef is much worse than 78% durability bread. Also you may give all that you didn’t finish eating to your squadmates, or maybe to bargain with wolfs (Don’t try it).



Garbage system - What are you doing with a bottle of water after you have drank all of it? Don’t throw it away, now you will be able to use it again. Refill it and you will have a brand new bottle of water. Keep the earth safe, don’t throw out the plastic bottle.



Map signs - Now you will see spots of interest on the map. If you didn’t discover it yet it will be shown as a question mark, once discovered, a new location will be marked on the map. Besides that, we’ve made the map retexture.



Location-based VoIP/Squad VoIP - Location-based VoIP will give you a great tool to coordinate with your friends or threaten the enemy. But be advised, if someone standing near, he will hear what are you saying to your team-mate, so perhaps it is a good time to invent your own language with your friends, that nobody will understand.

Squad system - Now you are able to invite your friend to the squad, which will allow You to keep on track of each other. It will provide you better coordination and combining with squad Vo-Ip you can act as a commando or at least hear the last words of your teammates.

The squad size is 4 players max and 2 players min.





New players list - We’ve added a new global player list, which will display all of the online players on a server. Through this players' list, you will be able to see players' names (Steam profile name), players' nicknames (the in-game character name), players' ping, and player lifetime (how long does this player staying alive, staying alive).

Also with this players list, you will be able to invite players to your squad. We will continue our work on improving the social system.


New inventory system - New inventory system will provide you better inventory management. Now you are able to rotate items and use the inventory space in a more efficient way. The inventory system is now greed-based and weight-based at the same time, which will make some resources even demanded and harder to get.



Stamina reduction and damage effects - Blood from damage and blur from critically low stamina level, besides that you will also breathe really fast, which might tell your chaser where you are.


Random encounters - Now there is no safe place in the Lost Region, besides maybe your base, which is also debatable. With the 0.5.0.0 patch players' have a chance to meet a friendly deer or a hostile wolf or mid-hostile wolves chasing mid-friendly deer or something more deadly.

Graphics

New light system - We’ve implemented a new light system. Now the environment looks more alive and beautiful even during such dark times.


Global map overhaul - In addition to the new light system we’ve added new levels and overhauled the old ones.

Servers
Dedicated server option - We’ve implemented the option to create your own dedicated server for the Lost Region. In the future we are planning to implement the steam mod tool, so you will be able to customize your game.

New server browser - with a new server browser it will be easier to find the server that suits You, and combining it with a dedicated server option and steam mod tool it will be quite handy.



Lore

Our game designer is working on the LORE of the Lost Region. It will come out with a quest and faction reputation patch. You will be able to find out what happened to the world of the Lost Region.

In the future you will be able to decide, how will the world recover after the apocalypse, if it will recover at all.

What will be next?

First of all, hotfixes for all that we didn’t take into account. Then, more new features will be added. Of course, You are who influence the development, so if you have any suggestions don’t hesitate and write to us.

Inventory
The appearance of the inventory has also been redesigned, we added status that shows the durability of the items, stack information for items with the stack, and also, when there is no space in the inventory, garbage will drop on the ground.
Items now get removed from the quick bar if the item was fully consumed.
We’ve updated the number of slots in a small crafted backpack.


Clothes
We added 7 new Backpack color variations and a new medium crafted backpack to the crafting menu.
Also, a tear function added to hats.


Weapon
We are making some small changes to the weapons, targeting now returns to the third person view if it was triggered from the third-person view, also we’ve removed the auto-reload feature on the weapon equip.
We’ve removed the blur effect on the aim point and red dot and have updated the crosshair.
Primitive Axe recipe has been added to the crafting menu.


Character
We are reworking our faction icons and now the character default icon changed to neutral.
Also, hair and beard customization added to the game. We are still working on this and in the future more variations will be added.


Other
Also, there are more small changes in the game:
Updated resources gather method.
Updated squad invite widget time(x2).
Use distance of crates and loot updated.
Sound distance for the river increased.
Connection timeout changed from 60 seconds to 30.
Cut renamed to tear.
Hidden storage now can be placed only on the ground.
Added sound for eating and drinking animations.
Added interaction fill-bar during item use.
Added Railways collision.
World origin rebasing added, to avoid animation jittering.
Rope recipe has been added to the craft menu.


Map
Due to the changes in the game world, we have updated our map.
