Hey Community,

That's right, the time has come to announce the winner of the design a weapon competition..but first a message from the development team, who had the hard task of picking a winner:

Firstly, thank you to everyone who entered the competition. We don't think a Holy Hand Grenade could of blown us away as much as the quality and thought that went into these entries. We enjoyed going through all the submissions and they prompted some really exciting discussions here at Team17 towers. We're so impressed with what the community put forward, it really was top notch.

Though we’ve only picked one winner we have been influenced by many of the other ideas. Keep a look out for possible future weapons inspired by some of the concepts here in future updates.

The Winner

Survii Gecko & their 'Magnestised Mischievous Drone'

But what is this Drone we hear you ask, well, Survii Gecko says it best:

Basic use:

The basic use of this drone would be to get an assured shot on an enemy by placing a magnet next to them (of course they could knock it out the way if they had a turn first) or to place a much-needed electromagnet next to a friendly you currently aren't playing as.

Advanced use:

The advanced use of this drone would be to fling mines across the map at enemies or drop them into caverns where enemy worms are situated by utilising the magnetic properties of the drone. Of course this would be extremely hard to do and I'm sure only the scary ninja-roping pro-crowd would be able to pull off these moves reliably. Another use would be to put the electromagnet in a place you can use to deflect your bazooka shots into an enemy’s face.

Mechanics:

The drone would deploy exactly as it does now, and have identical properties to the current drone (speed etc.) while also having the same magnet statistics to the basic electromagnet, the only difference is that this drone doesn't die when the timer runs out, it just falls. This version of the drone counts as a move though, so you can't throw a drone out and then get a guaranteed hit on an enemy on that same turn. Pressing space drops the drone.

The Developers had this to say for picking this weapon:

We liked the utility this can bring to the game for both offence and defence. We imagined some interesting and very sneaky tactics developing from it. Stay tuned to see this attractive addition to the worms arsenal in a future update.

And thus, 'Survii Gecko Industries' enters Worms Canon as the producers of the very first Drone upgrade! We've even got the first draft of the description ready:

Long - Developed at ‘Survii Gecko Industries’ the Magnetised Mischievous Drone is sure to be a positive addition to any wormers arsenal while having a negative effect on enemies. Remember to set the polarity before using.

Short – A magnetised drone from ‘Survii Gecko Industries’.

Honorable Mentions

The quality of entries was so damn high community, the team couldnt help but highlight some of the entries that so nearly took the top spot:
  • Wormhole - just Wizzy
  • Sticky Gum Stinger - Haruka
  • Slug - spider_689
  • Peacemaker - Krava
  • Hook Lick and Sinker - Hugh Mungo
  • Lil' Rover - SmashingRenders

Thank you to everyone who took part and shared their ideas, we are both humbled and proud of you all.

The quality of the submissions means this probably won't be the last time we reach out to you in regards to designing something for us ;)
