Known Issues
  • Low client performance and bad framerates can influence resurrection timers, making them last longer than their intended duration.
  • Some virus programs with outdated libraries may attempt to quarantine essential game files, mistakenly identifying them as threats. This can have significant effects, including the client not starting at all. We recommend keeping antivirus programs updated frequently as they address problems. Workarounds include reinstalling and launching the client with the aggressive antivirus software disabled, or whitelisting the game directory in the antivirus list of exceptions.
  • Jumping behaviors may be blocked if the in-game avatar is colliding against scene objects.
  • Using “Follow” on other players will occasionally unleash randomly, requiring you to set “Follow” again.
  • Terrain in some scenes, including Player Owned Towns, may have an unusually hazy appearance.
  • Elysian Illumination no longer damages undead, and has a broken range for applying heals.
  • Companions (Offline Mode feature) dialogue continues to be worked on.
  • It’s possible to enter a state where weapon trails will be visible even with no weapon drawn. Relogging corrects this.
  • The in-game map (M key shortcut) cannot be accessed on Linux clients.
  • Linux is using an older version of Unity until known performance issues can be addressed.
  • There are ongoing issues with being able to target, heal, and flag in parties of mixed PVP-flagging.
  • Party/Companion nameplates can be visually obscured if enough buffs are added for icons to wrap to three rows.

Release 53 is our first release since launching out of Early Access. As promised, we are continuing our cadence of monthly releases, just as before. Release 53 of Shroud of the Avatar goes live this Thursday, April 26, at 10:30 AM US Central Daylight Time (15:30 UTC).

Release 53 is the first release in which we focused on the current iteration of our Top 10 Priorities (from Q2 2018 post). We were able to address most of the items on that list in some fashion. We made strong progress on performance, localization, physical goods, improved reward cycle, user interface polish, player direction and story polish. We will be spending more time on enemy behaviors and repeatable content in the next two releases.

  • Increased the difficulty of critters in Blood Bay and their spawn rates.
  • Added a confirmation when enabling Peripheral Lighting.
  • Sivas Fel in Ardoris will give players that have dealt with Min Liang Tan a Necropolis Keystone if they failed to obtain one in the Tower of the Shuttered Eye.
  • Disabling 100% XP return on skill unlearning – these skills will now return 50% of the experience points used to train it.
  • Fixed an NPC in Blood Bay that was trying to perform an emote.
  • Fixed female avatar heraldry pieces that were missing blazons.
  • Fixed multiple issues with crafting tutorial quest highlighting.
  • Players who were stuck turning in Cyannis' report in Resolute may restart the quest by speaking with Godbert.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause players to be teleported to the front of their lots.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented earning experience from some dragon kills.
  • The tutorial task "Learn a new skill, then equip it" can now be completed - if you have this task, drop a skill on your combat bar to resolve it.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented messaging that a specific item is required to use a teleporter in the Lost Vale.
  • Lingering tasks for Broken Echoes quest in Jaanaford will automatically resolve upon completing the quest.
  • Lingering tasks for Vivienne's "bank key" quest in Aerie will automatically resolve upon completing the quest.

  • Party/Companion nameplates can be visually obscured if enough buffs are added for icons to wrap to three rows.
  • Visual quest indicators may be missing from compass. Adding the data to support them is an ongoing design process.
  • Dazzling Rays, and other caster-based AOE spells, have difficulty hitting nearby enemies in confined spaces (like narrow hallways)
  • Ring of Cuttlekin turns avatar skin grey instead of translucent.
  • Pets cannot follow players onto moving platforms.
  • If an item’s name is in Runic, its flag as “Private Property” will also appear in Runic.
  • Players with Tenant permissions on a Lot cannot place their own Player Vendors.
  • Some decorations placed in basements may shift through walls and end up in inaccessible locations.
  • Players may be unable to interact with objects via double-click if their framerate is poor. A workaround is to use the “E” interaction key.
  • Some spell VFX do not play properly
  • Some textures may look incorrect due to optimizations (white, black, pink, low resolution, pixelated, etc.)
  • Water lots in Dynamic Player Owned Towns can currently only be placed along shorelines, not on docks
  • Some pledge, add on, and stretch goal items have not yet been built and/or do not yet have tech support.
