Battlefront 2 gets Rise of Skywalker content later in December - but one addition set for 2020 rises above them all: playable BB-8.

BB-8, who hits Battlefront 2 late January 2020, is a hero character for the Resistance, while their evil counterpart BB-9E is a playable villain for the First Order.

Before that, on 17th December, First Order players can soar through the skies with the new Jet Trooper character as part of the Rise of Skywalker update
- much to Finn's amazement. For the Resistance, there are two new classes: Gunner and Spy, both of which are played by two brand new alien species. Although these species haven't been named yet, one of them could be Babu Frik, a new creature revealed for the movie back in October.

UPDATE: EA has confirmed the Celebration Edition of Star Wars Battlefront 2, releasing on 5th December. The Rise of Skywalker content will launch for all players on 17th December.

ORIGINAL: Star Wars Battlefront 2 is well over two-years-old at this point, but DICE isn't done updating the shooter just yet. A new leak paints a pretty convincing picture of a Celebration Edition of Battlefront 2 releasing later this week.

The leak originates from TrueAchievements.com, and claims the Celebration Edition of Battlefront 2 releases on 5th December. The upgraded edition reportedly features all past and future updates, including heroes Rey and Finn, villain Kylo Ren, and cosmetic appearances for regular foot soldiers.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is still getting significant updates two years after its embattled launch - and it'll get another big one in December to tie in with movie The Rise of Skywalker.

DICE outlined a new roadmap for the game, detailing new maps and modes.

An EA sale is underway for today only at Amazon UK, where you can get many of the publisher's biggest releases for a pittance on PC.

Leading the way is Star Wars: Battlefront 2 for 3.99. The shooter from a galaxy far, far away hasn't fared particularly well since release, what with loot box shenanigans, microtransaction woes and copious bugs. However, that price could be tempting enough just to try out the single-player campaign.

In terms of sheer value for money, the best of the lot has to be the Dragon Age: Inquisition - Game of the Year Edition for 7.99. Along with the base game, you'll get the Jaws of Hakkon, The Descent and Trespasser DLC packs. Plus, you get an upgrade to the Deluxe Edition, along with both the Spoils of the Avvar and the Spoils of the Qunari items. Inquisition is nowhere near Origins, but it's still a solid BioWare fantasy RPG.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 gets Droidekas this month, DICE has announced.

The pesky destroyers arrive in the game on 26th June as part of the Where are those Droidekas? update.

For those unfamiliar, Droidekas were first seen taking on Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace. They're pretty powerful droids - so powerful in fact that Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan peg it when they turn up.

A film based on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is in the works, according to a new report.

Buzzfeed said the script is being written by Laeta Kalogridis, who's worked on Shutter Island, Alita: Battle Angel and Altered Carbon, among other properties. Apparently Kalogridis is close to finishing the first script of a potential KOTOR trilogy.

As Buzzfeed points out, at Star Wars Celebration in April, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy told MTV News: "Yes, we are developing something to look at," after being asked about KOTOR. "Right now, I have no idea where things might fall."

EA has added 12 Star Wars games to its PC subscription service, Origin Access, including the original Battlefront II.

"Coming to The Vault in a galaxy not so far away: strategic, cinematic, laser-blasting Star Wars games," EA says in its latest Origins Access update (thanks, PC Gamer), presumably timed to tie in with May the Fourth celebrations. "Our growing collection already includes 20+ Star Wars titles, but now we're adding even more games."

If you can't rely on the present to deliver solid Star Wars games, we can at least look to the past - and thanks to Steam and GOG that just got a whole lot easier, as the Star Wars Battlefront game from 2004 has just been made available on both stores.

The classic title by Pandemic was previously accessible on PS2, Xbox One (via back compat) and through physical copies for PC (or via other nefarious means online), so its appearance on Steam and GOG makes access a lot easier for Star Wars fans who fancy a nostalgia trip. Which is all Star Wars fans, let's be honest.

As the original was published by LucasArts, this would have been a Disney decision rather than EA's. Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005) has been available on both Steam and GOG for some time now, so the addition of the original title means the set is now complete.

Just in case you haven't had enough Star Wars this weekend, a new, free to subscribers expansion pack is coming to Star Wars: The Old Republic - the first in three years.

A blog post (thanks,
PC Gamer) details the new expansion, Onslaught, confirming the update will not only bring a whole new story, but two new planets, a new Flashpoint, a new Operation, and new abilities, too.

"Star Wars: The Old Republic: Onslaught puts you at the center of the reignited war between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. Will you remain loyal to your faction or work to undermine and sabotage their war efforts? The choice is yours," the blog post teases.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is getting a brand-new mode next week, March 26th, mixing ground battles with taught close-quarters combat as teams run the gauntlet through the interior of a capital ship.

Known as Capital Supremacy, the new is described as "an immersive, Clone Wars-era authentic experience" that pits two teams of 20, in the role of either the Galactic Republic or the Separatists, against each other, aided by 12 AI-controlled troopers on each side.

Playing out in a similar fashion to Battlefield 2142's Titan Mode, Capital Supremacy unfolds over two phases. The first is "non-linear" ground battle (appropriately called the Ground Phase) that sees participants utilising "a wide array of tactics, trooper classes, land vehicles, reinforcement units, and hero characters to attack and defend different areas across the surface".
