Hail, Vikings!

These past two weeks have been a crazy roller-coaster ride. Jotun had a great reception at launch, getting an 8/10 from IGN and a 93% positive Steam user-score!

We can't thank you enough for your support!

I've always liked watching making of's after finishing a movie, so I hope that if you've played the game you'll enjoy watching Jotun's making of's.

Jotun: Valhalla Edition - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Joe Donnelly)

Jotun [official site] looks beautiful, doesn’t it? Just look at those hand-crafted animations. Its water coloured landscapes. Its whimsical Studio Ghibli-esque aesthetic weaving vibrant charm and mystical allure all over my eye balls. Ahead of its September 29 release on Steam, Canadian outfit Thunder Lotus Games have delivered a launch trailer showcasing yet more of Jotun’s majesty – which includes the majesty of a 50-foot tall loin cloth-sporting, horned helmet-donning Norse mythology-drawn grunt.

Hail, Explorers!

We guided you through the dark abyss of Nidavellir, the Cave region. Now our trip takes a dramatic change of direction, as we ascend the highest of heights of Ginnungagap.

The Storm Region is found atop Yggdrasil in The Northern Sky, home of the Sun, the Moon and the stars.

Yggdrasil is the world-tree that connects the nine Worlds. Only a few living beings are able to climb to its very top.

Precious rewards and breathtaking views await those who manage to reach Yggdrasil’s crown. A shrine to the goddess Frigg and one of Ithunn’s precious apples are hidden among the boughs. However, a great danger lurks in the branches.

Vethrfolnir, the hawk and his companion, the Unnamed Eagle, inhabit the top of Yggdrasil and fiercely hunt any living being that reaches the top of the World Tree.

Yggdrasil is also the home of Ratatoskr, the Messenger, that spends his life carrying messages between the Unnamed Eagle and Nidhogg, the dragon that lives in the roots of the Tree (who we saw before, in the Cave Region).

Even higher than the highest leaves of Yggdrasil, is the bright and infinite Northern Sky.

Where the Sun and the Moon dance, you contemplate the Infinite. Let the stars guide your way as you walk through the Northern Lights. Decode the constellations to discover secrets.

The brightest light in the Northern Sky is also its greatest danger. Made of thunder, clouds and pure chaos, she is both mesmerizing and dangerous.

Hagalaz controls light and electricity. A being of pure energy, she gets more powerful as she gets enraged. At her maximum power, she concentrates so much energy that her body duplicates, creating a clone that is as majestic, powerful and insane as herself.

Above all living beings, Hagalaz reigns among the stars.

Thora will need to climb to the highest peaks to ride the lightning. Defeat the Storm Jotun to impress the Gods!

Hail, Explorers! We showed you the beautiful and deadly Winter region. Now, we dive into the abyss.

The darkest and deepest region of Norse Purgatory, the Cave region, Nidavellir.

Nidavellir is a world covered with mountains and almost no life above the surface. But within its cave systems, the world is rich and alive. It is populated by the proud dwarves, a race of miners, blacksmiths and warriors that turn rough stone into bridges, houses and fortresses. In their forges, they make the most opulent jewellery and the best weapons in the 9 worlds. Brokkr, a dwarven king who founded this rich city in the deep, created Mjolnir, Thor’s mighty hammer, in his forge.

The dwarves, tirelessly mining, forging and digging, greedily protect their treasures from intruders.

Diving even deeper down the abyss, we reach Yggdrasil’s Roots, the lowest place in the universe.

This maze of roots and waterfalls hides precious treasures, but also danger. Filled with earthquakes and erosion, it casts deadly stones on those who dare explore the depths.

Going even deeper into the maze, we can see Nidhogg, the dragon, imprisoned in the well of Hvergelmir by Odin himself. Nidhogg gnaws Yggdrasil’s roots with anger and bitterness, waiting for his revenge.

Further off in Nidavellir’s caves, Fé awaits. Sitting on her throne of stone, she is both adored and feared by her dwarven servants. Fé, the most precious stone in the dark depths, sleeps.

Made of pure stone, gigantic rubies for eyes, nails and hair of pure gold, Fé is the shortest, but the heaviest of all Jotun. Her shield is so heavy that it creates earthquakes and annihilates everything in its way. Not only must Thora defeat her, she must also endure earthquakes and waves upon waves of fierce dwarven warriors!
