Frostpunk was released in April but development and improvement on the title hasn't slowed down! Today, we are very happy to announce that the brand new DLC 'People and Automatons' is now available to all owners of Frostpunk - for free!
While working on this update, we at 11 bit studios have spent hours on top of hours browsing through forums and comment sections on Frostpunk. Based on suggestions from our community, most of the features and changes implemented directly address those concerns — and because of that we'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who are contributing there on daily basis. Without further delay, let’s take a look at the new content: https://youtu.be/ZroC7y24yHs
- - - GENERAL NOTES - - -
Naming Characters and Automatons — You can now change the names of your people and automatons. This feature not only allows you to dive deeper into the in-game world, but will also help you while managing your city because from now on, you’ll be able to search for individuals (both men and machines) using given names. And we can also imagine that some streamers and youtubers might be happy about this one - naming citizens after their subscribers? Sounds like a perfect idea!
New Visuals — We dedicated many hours working on new visuals for certain elements of the game, including: Hunter Airships, Hunters’ Huts, Gathering Posts, Outposts and Workshops. From now on your city will look better than ever before and what’s more, it will be easier to find certain facilities among all the other buildings.
Intel NUC Skull Canyon and Razer Chroma Support — it’s rather self explanatory, really! If you own the aforementioned devices you can now use their full potential in our games. We think you’re gonna like it!
Fixes, optimization and ALL THAT STUFF — As always, we crushed a number of bugs that were bothering our players and optimized here and there, improving the overall experience for the game. For the full list of changes, be sure to check the changelog below.

Remember the Development Road Map that we've posted some time ago? The time has come to introduce the promised Survivor Mode to the game! It's a special feature for the most seasoned arctic survivalists among you. If you find Hard difficulty all too easy, test the limits of your ability to survive the winter apocalypse in this brand new mode! You can pause the game only by opening a menu - so there is no active pause whatsoever! - and your progress is only saved automatically and on exit, so all your decisions are final. The difficulty level itself is also more rough and demanding - meeting the people's needs or balancing the delicate economy of your city will be even harder. What's more: finishing the game in this mode will reward you with some new achievements as well. To start a new game in Survivor Mode, select a scenario and toggle the switch below the customization button.
On top of that, we believe it's a good idea to celebrate the update with something really special. That's why we have prepared a discount for you!
Constructed streets now more easily connect to already existing street net
Rebalanced amount of starting resources and resources on frostland for Refugees and The Arks scenarios in easy and hard difficulty setting.
Hunters will now have to rest for a few hours after coming back from the hunt. It will no longer be possible to send them to other work immediately.
Added blocking other panels by in-game menu
Changed extraction rate value for all pickable resources - replaced potential value with all employees by actual value based on efficiency
It is now possible to bind keyboard shortcuts to “Fast speed” and “Very fast speed” commands
Increased precision of the gathered Steam Cores amount to 2 digits after comma
Added emergency shift trackers to pickable resources
Fixes:
Fixed conditions for Saviour and Iron Saviour achievements
Fixed certain endlog variations that didn’t display properly when Cannibalism law was passed
Fixed overlapping trackers on frostland (sites, expeditions, transports, survivors)
Fixed missing recurring consequences of Emergency Shifts. Watch out when you exert your workforce!
Fixed showing tutorials after loading save
Fixed a bug causing snow caps to accumulate on buildings that were just built inside heat zone
Fixed scrollbars in all expedition building selection panels

Fixed many UI show/hide animations
Fixed closing notifications on pause
Enabled notifications visibility on Frostland
Fixed queuing unlocked resources on resource bar
Fixed texts serializations - all texts will be in current language, even after changing language in main menu and loading save
Fixed calculating average discontent for expeditions
Fixed states (selected, pressed) for many buttons in selection panel
Fixed current research description text on workshop selection panel
Fixed displaying prohibited citizen groups on population panel
Fixed disabled people outside care house count
Fixed two crashes that occurred in rare circumstances
Fixed a bug causing upgraded buildings to overlap adjacent streets
What is Ansel?
Ansel is a revolutionary new way to capture in-game shots and view in 360. Compose your screenshots from any position, adjust them with post-process filters, capture HDR images in high-fidelity formats, and share them in 360 degrees using your mobile phone, PC, or VR headset. That's the theory. In practice, this tool allows you - among other things - to take super cool, high resolution screenshots like this one.You can learn more about Ansel on the official website!
(Note: Ansel is available for Steam and GOG.com versions only).

As you already know, we were working on a development road map - to give you some idea where we are heading with Frostpunk. We've received a lot of feedback from you - be it ideas, suggestions or bug reports. We tried to take everything into our consideration and then we matched it with our own concepts and intentions. It was also crucial for us to make all of those updates free - because you are amazing and we love the passion that you show for Frostpunk. Without further ado: what lies before you is a plan that we want to carry into execution in 2018.

- - - ROAD MAP DETAILS - - -
As you can see - there is plenty to wait for! We're going to tell you more about each step of the way when we get there - but for now, let us share some basic ideas about each waypoint.
1. Survivor - NEW MODE!
Survivor update is bringing a brand new challange for those of you who have mastered the surviving techniques - even on the hardest difficulty setting. This mode will unlock some new, special modifiers that should make you sweat - even though it's -120℃ out there! It's our first big update and we plan to roll it out in June!
2. People & Automatons - Basic Customization Options.
You asked us if we can give you some naming options for your citizens and automatons - and that's exactly what we are doing. Oh, and we hope we can bring even more customization options in the future - but you gotta start somewhere, right?
3. The Builders - NEW SCENARIO!
This is the most substantial update for 2018. A brand new scenario, with its own story and challenge. We won't spoil anything at all at the moment - but let's just say you should stay excited.
4. Endurance - NEW GAME MODE!
One of the major requests from you was to implement some kind of endless or sandbox mode. Endurance Game Mode is our response to your needs. But as you can expect from us - it's gonna be our distinctive take on this feature.
5. Winter Snapshots - Update.
Let's admit it - Frostpunk looks good. And we want you to be able to capture its beauty with more precise tools. That's why we plan to introduce a special photo/screenshot tool so you can snap some icy, intense pics of New London. We've also prepared a special surprise for this update - but we're not spoiling that, either.
6. Further expeditions in 2019...
Of course - that's not the end of the journey. That's just how much stuff we were able to pack into year 2018. But we have more ideas (and we bet you have some, too) to implement in upcoming year 2019...
This should go without saying - but between the bigger updates - we also plan to roll out some smaller ones - containing bug fixes, stability tweaks etc.
If you want to stay up to date with all the updates - be sure to follow us there:
We're received a lot of feedback from you since Frostpunk's release. Some of it was about game's features and content updates (more on that at the end of this post) - and some was strictly about technical stuff. Our Tech Support and QA guys worked very hard to investigate, replicate and fix all the major and most common issues.
Here's the full list of changes and fixes:
Default display mode detection fix - we know you've experienced some issues with screen resolutions; it should be all fixed now (if it's still happening for you - we have a manual solution that you can use - described below)
More diagnostics tools - we've added some analytics that will help us track and fix issues in the future
"Bread and Games" achievement is working properly now
"The Union" achievement is fixed as well - it was working before - but was triggered by wrong events
"Iron Man (The Arks)" achievement is fixed - now it's only possible to get it during The Arks scenario
Memory leaks are fixed - which should improve stability and overall performance (more FPS, less crashes etc.)
Save game buffor memory increased - which should eliminate any issues that you had with autosaving feature
Fixed a bunch of crashes related to Heaters, Generator and endlog timelapse
Added feature: AlienFX.
Working with Alienware, we've added new feature to our game - which should brighten up Frostpunk's dark atmoshpere a bit. If you're using compatible hardware:
Your keyboard's backlight colours will change depending on the current temperature in your city. And let's just say: if you see some purple lights - better fire up that Generator overdrive.
Weather warnings - when the temperature rises or drops - your keyboard will let you know about it, pulsating with coresponding colours.
Read more about AlienFX here:
ROCCAT and Alienware have joined forces to bring you the most innovative and game-enhancing lighting system on the market, AlienFX. Two of the most trusted names in gaming with an amazing partnership, one incredible light show, and an ever-expanding portfolio of awesome ROCCAT products that it's compatible with.
AlienFX makes in-game events for some of the most popular titles that much more thrilling and immersive, bringing gamers closer to the worlds they play in than ever before with lighting effects tied directly to the action.

Screen resolutions issue - manual solution.
Remember that one pesky issue that we've mentioned in "changes and fixes" section? The one about resolutions? Well, we've fixed it. However, it's not humanly possible to test it on each and every hardware configuration. So if you - for some strange reason - still encounter this problem, do not despair, we have a manual solution for you.
Long story short:
we've added a special file to game's folder. It is called "GfxConfig.ini"
you can open it using Notepad - that's easy!
then you can change some setting by yourself - like Quality (Low - Very High), VSync, resolution, windowed mode/fullscreen
for these settings to work - you have to launch the game with -gfxconfig parameter (find instructions on how to do that below)
when you launch the game - you can change in-game settings as you please
however, whenever you launch the game again with -gfxconfig parameter - it will reset to settings from the GfxConfig.ini file
if you remove the -gfxconfig parameter - game will launch with the settings that you've selected in-game
So we suspect that most of you are going to:
Set windowed mode with a low resolution (800x600) in GfxConfig.ini
Launch the game with -gfxconfig parameter
Change the settings to desired ones
Quit the game
Remove the -gfxconfig and launch the game without it from now on
How do I add -gfxconfig parameter?
The easy way: - Right-click on Frostpunk in your Steam library; - Click on “SET LAUNCH OPTIONS”; - Write “ -gfxconfig” in the newly appearing window (without the inverted commas but with space before the dash character); - Click “OK” and launch the game
The hard way: - Right-click on Frostpunk in your Steam library; - Navigate to the “Local files” tab and click on “Browse Local Files…”; - New explorer window with the game files will open, please find “Frostpunk.exe” in the folder; - Create a shortcut to the application in the very same folder; - Right-click on the newly-created shortcut, select “Properties”; - In the “Target” line, add “ -gfxconfig” at the very end of the path (without the inverted commas but with the space before the dash character); - Apply the changes; - Launch the game using the newly-created and edited shortcut

What about some content updates?
We've received A LOT of good ideas from you. We've confronted them with our own vision - and thanks to that: development road map is almost ready. We are probably going to post it next week - so stay tuned to learn everything about DLCs, future patches and Frostpunk-related plans!
Frostpunk's release was a HUGE thing for us, as you may imagine. It is our biggest and most complex game to date - and thanks to your amazing support - it may be our biggest success as well! The feedback we've received from you, from gaming press and influencers - has been truly amazing (and very useful!). We can't thank you enough - you are absolutely awesome!
We are receiving a lot of questions, too - about the game and our post-release development plans. We will try to answer some of them right now - so you are up to date with our agenda.
- - - QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS - - -
1. I've already finished the game! Do you plan to add more content?
It's a great question! And the simplest answer is: YES, we do plan to add more content. More complicated answer is: we have A LOT of ideas ourselves and we also listen to our community (that's you!). We plan to polish some rough edges of the original game - you're reporting some issues with difficulty balance, with minor bugs and such. We want to fix that! We also plan to add more modes and scenarios to the game. What are they going to be exactly? It's too early to announce - but you should be excited. And yes - a sandbox/endless mode is on our mind as well. Frostpunk is going to grow - all you have to do right now is to wait a little bit. We do plan to release a roadmap for our development plans as soon as we're ready. Stay tuned!
2. I have an idea that you should implement into the game! Do it, now, please!
Yup, we are aware that you have A LOT of cool ideas! Please do post them on forums or social media - we love to hear your thoughts. However, remember that we also have our ideas and our plans - so we can't promise that your particular idea can be implemented in any way in Frostpunk. We also love to read your different theories about the game's lore - so feel free to discuss them on our forums!
3. My game won't launch/I've encountered a bug. What can I do? Who can help me out?
Releasing a complex game like Frostpunk is not an easy process. We consider ouselves to be premium indie/double AA - which means we don't have 300 people in QA department. However, we are totally aware that some issues are still occuring. We are gathering data from your playthroughs, from your console output files and such. This helps us to investigate the issues - so we are very grateful for your feedback! Our programmers are working on patches as we speak. We don't want to count on any half-measures - fixes that get rid of one problem, creating another. That's why we have to test our solutions out before we are 100% sure that we can release them. In the meantime, we have prepared a robust Support Guide for you. It's filled with useful tips and tricks that should fix your game. It's a temporary fix - far from a perfect one - but we are doing what we can. However, we have discovered that solutions provided in our guide tend to solve most of the issues that are currently occuring in Frostpunk.
> > > You can (and you should!) access the Support GuideHERE!
4. I need to be up to date with all the news! How can I do that?
It's great to hear that you want to be part of our post-apocalyptic community! Feel free to follow us on:
Thank you buying the game and for your constant, amazing support! Remember that we are here, we are reading your feedback - even if we can't reply to each one of you.
It was a long journey, we travelled for years... No horizon in sight. But hope pushed us forward. And finally...the time has come. Time to built the last city on Earth. The City must survive!
Also, we have more good news! If you already own 'This War of Mine' in your Steam Library you can get 'Frostpunk' with a 10% discount! The offer stands until May 1st, 2018.
“From This War of Mine to Frostpunk, we’ve evolved our game’s content to robustly explore player’s morality deeper and more in-depth than ever before. We’ve been searching this fascinating gray-area, where nothing is purely good or evil. You, as a player, need to make decisions based on your moral compass and ability to foresee the consequences of your choices. From deciding the fate of individuals to deciding the destiny of an entire society - that was the creative process of Frostpunk. That’s how I’ve watched this game develop into a story about the price of power; about the responsibility of being a leader. That was a challenging project, but I’m delighted to see its premiere today and I’d like to express my big thanks and respect for the team at 11 bit studios for making this game as it is,” says Grzegorz Miechowski, CEO at 11 bit studios. “I hope it’s just the beginning of a long journey. We already have a ton of ideas and plans to add new scenarios to the game and vastly expand the universe.” he adds.
Want to know what Frostpunk is all about? Great! We have released "11 facts about Frostpunk" - a feature preview video. You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/1VEKpJBX8V4
The time has come to tell you a little bit about Frostpunk's ADDITIONAL SCENARIOS! Some of you may already know that on top of the main campaign, which you could already see on multiple Twitch streams and YouTube let’s plays, full version of Frostpunk offers two more robust scenarios.
Both of them adding different perspectives on society survival, introducing new challenges to tackle and extending your overall experience. In both scenarios you’re gonna have to come up with smart ways of planning and building your city, adjusting strategy to differently shaped maps surrounded by new sites to discover.
SCENARIO #1: THE ARKS
‘We've been chosen to safeguard a priceless treasure – the seeds and seedlings of plants from all over the world. They've been deposited in Seedling Arks to stop them from freezing, but it falls to us to build a city to protect these precious buildings until the winter ends, however long that may be. The only way to do this is with automatons. We'll ensure the green earth is reborn – even if we aren't there to witness it.’ ‘The Arks’ leaves you with very limited population, pushing you onto the path of technological advancement, where automatons become vital for the city’s survival.
SCENARIO #2: REFUGEES
‘We were condemned to die with the rest of the common folk when London was destroyed. But we rose up. We commandeered the ships that were meant to carry the wealthy to safety and sailed north. Here we found a Generator and claimed it for ourselves. Now we must gather all our people in this new city before the lords arrive to rob us of our freedom again.’ If the ultimate winter was not enough, in ‘Refugees’ scenario you have to deal with social stratification & unrest in rapidly growing society.

“The function of prayer is not to influence God, but rather to change the nature of the one who prays.”
― Søren Kierkegaard
Hello there, Citizens!
Pfew! Crazy times! We are getting ready to release the game on 24.04.2018 - but we still want to show you some new stuff. If you’re watching Twitch - you’ve probably already seen the second path that you can choose in Frostpunk, besides the Path of Order. However, for those of you who prefer to avoid major feature spoilers ('cause streamers tend to show you the whole thing) - we prepared a brief presentantion of some basic laws that you can establish if you choose the path of the true devotion!
“There's a saying "There are no atheists in foxholes" and we felt it rang true for the situation depicted in the game. But Frostpunk is about the extremes people go to to survive and we asked ourselves how it could impact the need for faith people would naturally develop. A cynical leader might twist it to control and brainwash, supplanting the idea of a higher power with cynical will of man. We wanted to ask the players whether they are comfortable with that, if it meant greater chances of survival.”
Choosing the Path of Faith means showing your society a brand new way of life. However - for you as their leader - it means unlocking new instruments to influence the shape of the city itself. Discover new buildings and abilities as you make your first steps on the Path of Faith. Here are some examples:
Law: House of Prayer A small place of worship for our people. Prayers, sermons and small ceremonies are held here. People living near Houses of Prayer will be more hopeful.
This law will unlock a new building: House of Prayer, where people can practice their faith in peace. It also unlocks new ability: Sermon. When you use this ability, people living nearby will gather to pray, which will raise their hope.
Law: Shrines A small shrine where passers-by can pray and put their trust in faith, gaining hope. People nearby, reminded of why they toil, work more efficiently.
This law adds a new building: Shrine, and a new passive effect: shrines will raise the spirits of people in nearby workplaces, so they work more efficiently and are more hopeful.
Law: House of Healing A hospital run by the faithful. Heals the sick and the gravely ill slightly slower than an Infirmary, but doesn't require engineers. Slightly raises patients' hope.
This law will unlock new building: House of Healing. It doesn't require engineers, treats the gravely ill and gives all patients a small hope bonus.
Law: Field Kitchens Each Field Kitchen will provide people working nearby with hot meals to keep them warm.
After establishing this law you will gain access to another building called Field Kitchen. Any workplaces in range will get a bonus to their heating thanks to the warm meals served in this building.
Law: The Temple The symbol of our devotion and our central place of worship. It brings peace to the faithful and inspires hope throughout the city. It may cause some doubters to mend their ways.
This law unlock a new building: The Temple. It will kindle hope in the hearts of the faithful and sway the doubtful. It also gives you a new ability: Ceremonial Service - that raises hope and comforts the discontented. There can only be one temple in the city.
Law: Evening Prayers We shall meet and pray together to warm not only our bodies, but also our souls.
This law unlocks new ability: Evening Prayers - each use raises hope and lowers discontent.
