Worlds Adrift - Bossa Julia

Greetings Travellers,

If you were on the stream, awesome! If not, you should join us next time!

This is what you missed (which had everyone crying on stream): https://clips.twitch.tv/ZealousRelatedOctopusTBTacoRight ...Skull Gang, yo.
News
Unfortunately next week's patch is delayed to the 3rd of July. :'(

BUT it will have more fixes and some more items than originally planned! Do watch the stream recap for details on how many awesome things are in the works and timelines.

The summer sale is now full STEAM ahead, so you should have received your summer item codes in your inbox (or somewhere around it)! This is a perfect opportunity to try rope your buddies into Worlds Adrift, and maybe even try out some other Bossa titles! Obviously Worlds is BEST.
All-Weekend Events
Creative Writing: Submissions will go HERE, the theme is Calypso!

Ship Design: The theme is obviously SUMMER – go wild!

But remember, your prize is your ship immortalised in Dan Lish’s art. Build something you are proud of and submit it in THIS THREAD.

Scavenger Hunt: Have you solved Ryan's Riddles?

Riddle 1: A bright white light in the dead of night,
Think quickly now, or invite the blight.[/u]
No need to wait for dusk to dawn,
First come, first serve - no respawn.

Riddle 2: Where finger and thumb doth meet together,
Is where I've buried my cherished treasure.
Knowledge you'll need, and knowledge you'll find.
Find my loot to lower the grind.

Riddle 3: A public house that's closed it doors,
The wings are clipped, the barrel's poured.
One last drink is now at stake,
A thirst for knowledge, it will slake.

If these places have already been looted, I left 3 more stashes in different locations!

Try your luck: you will find that taking screenshots of yourself at all 6 of the these islands may also bring you to a particular ....well of goodness...? Type of Paradise, perhaps! If nobody finds our loot I I will be left to walk a very blue path.

Hints are all here. Enjoy.

Worlds Adrift - Bossa Julia
Greetings Travellers,

Guess what?! This update is all about fixes and small awesome features. I'm in awe of the size of this lad. An absolute unit.

CHARACTER IMPROVEMENTS
  • Characters can crouch, roll, and sneak now! Holding the Ctrl key will crouch your character if not moving; pressing it while moving will roll your character, and moving while crouched will sneak your character around.
  • The Easter egg dances have now been integrated into a proper emote system! Press C to open up an emote wheel and perform all kinds of animations. In the future, vocalizations will expand on this system.
  • Characters will automatically reach out to touch walls and objects they’re close to again.
  • The “Kraken” bug (a total animation freakout of the player body) has finally been tamed! It might still occur in extreme circumstances, but should be very rare now.
  • Previously, impacting the ground in a specific way could send your character body flying into the stratosphere. This has been fixed.
  • A buggy animation loop, where a falling character would alternate between falling and skydiving, has been fixed.
  • While climbing, aiming your grapple will now stop your movement.
  • It is now easier to start climbing. The speed threshold has been raised, so it’s no longer necessary to be nearly still to initiate climbing.
  • When reeled almost all the way in to the hook attachment point, the player will no longer turn inside out to resolve the animation. As a concession, the arm will now sometimes clip geometry.
  • Fixed various issues with the character trying to aim with torches and other objects.

CAMERA IMPROVEMENTS
  • The game camera has been improved when swinging, particularly at speed. Your character can go really fast, and we want the player to feel that speed!
  • Added a feature to toggle the shoulder the game camera looks over. By default this is MMB.
  • After being stationary in the world for a while, the game camera will slowly pan to a cinematic angle.
  • All camera modes have been standardised and tweaked. Say goodbye to uncomfortably close up swinging when equipping the scanner!

NOTABLE BUGFIXES AND CHANGES
  • The cinematic introduction to the world has been properly integrated into the game now! Starting a new character will play a sequence that explains the background of the world, setting the stage for your adventures to come.
  • Some head pieces would float above players and turn them invisible upon relogging. This has been fixed.
  • A strange bug resulting in ship parts in the death clouds not getting deleted from the world has been fixed.
  • The shipyard information panel will now always display the correct information for all parts attached to the docked ship.
  • Timed explosives will no longer be invisible sometimes.
  • Inventory items can no longer overlap the belt space.
  • Occasionally players would not be able to save a ship frame design after editing it. This has been fixed.
  • Fixed the circular crafting timer being incorrect when opening a container.
  • The game no longer crashes upon exit.
  • Various client-side performance optimizations have been performed.
  • Various UI fixes.

OTHER FIXES AND TWEAKS
  • A bug that allowed a player to force nearby other players to go into the animation for swapping their hotbar item has been fixed.
  • Dragging inventory items to an invalid part of the UI no longer prompts the player to delete the item. Only dragging outside all UI will trigger the deletion prompt.
  • Stormwalls and sandstorms have received rendering improvements, displaying more detail and more movement, with better colours.
  • The flying debris inside stormwalls now appear again.
  • Stormwalls’ lightning flashes should now be visible from outside the wall again.
  • Adjusted colours on the Blight.
  • Fixed pixelated cloud cover over certain environment assets.
  • The first item loaded into the hotbar after launching the game will now function properly.
  • Foliage was disappearing at long distances instead of swapping to the lowest detail level. This has been fixed.
  • Atlas shards and power generators will now correctly display the control prompt to press E to interact.
  • A ship docked to a shipyard that gets eaten by the Blight will now undock automatically.
  • Added screen shake to firing a swivel gun.
  • Various new VFX, including wind trails over wings and while on helm, and VFX fixes.
  • Lots of SFX and music levels tweaks.

Enjoy, and see you in the skies!

Greetings Travellers,

Ready for the week? YEAH YOU ARE! <3

News
Alliances are being worked on and tested THOROUGHLY. We are currently expecting them for 0.2.3, but that may likely change (we will update you next Captain's Log with far more certainty). It's a big feature and we would like it to work properly. We are also going full throttle on optimisations and fixes of other bugs that have been plaguing the game.

Awesome News
The Slick Update came out and about and introduced some sexy new uniforms! We also introduced some tweaks to the material stats meaning it's a tiny bit easier to build your first wooden ship! For full Patch Notes of the update click HERE!

The Mowgli and Baloo have also released a new video where they torture Luke with strange questions.

More News!
In other news, we are always curious about your opinions, we are looking to learn more about your games events preferences and we would appreciate to hear your thoughts. https://bossastudios.typeform.com/to/WDPRod

What have the Devs been up to this week?
This week's Captain's Log comes with some Spicy Annotations Additions!
  • Fixed all the character related bugs. ALL OF THEM*
*Except the ones not fixed
  • Produce actual testable builds with alliances and crew for QA to test
  • Banning people (Whaaaat?! But everyone is lovely!)
  • More performance optimisations and garbage collection*
* garbage collection - performing a type of performance optimisation where you prevent the application from allocating and de-allocating memory repeatedly. The later operation has to happen if you do the former, but it can trigger a process called garbage collection which is where the app needs to tidy up the existing allocations of memory in order to satisfy future allocation requests.

  • Working on the tutorial codex
  • Fixed issues with deteriorate behaviour (Ship not sinking)
  • Fixed bug where bombs can't be picked up
  • Fixed the loading screen from fading out multiple times
  • Fixed the loading screen from showing when player enter/leave cannon and helm
  • Fixed the docked ship being locked when shipyard gets destroyed
  • Fixed the chest open and close SFX from heard far away
  • Tweak/implemented/fixed ship turning SFX
  • Refactor the resource collection SFX
  • Implemented the island lightning rumble SFX
  • Reviewing player submitted islands
  • Upgrading Easy Anti-Cheat
  • Bug fixing an infinite loading screen bug (Hallelujah Choirs played)
  • UI revisions
  • Working on some sinister looking customizations (spoopy scary)

  • Fixed all of the jerky ship bugs. I don't care what QA say, THEY'RE FIXED! (QA Jury is still out on this one.)
  • Also, messing about over the weekend with something to make sand walls harder now that the ships don't jerk around anymore... (Smooth sailing is not what Walls should ever be about)

That's all folks!

As always, see you in the skies,

Julia <3
Worlds Adrift - Bossa Julia

NEW FEATURES AND CONTENT
  • A load of Saborian military uniforms are now lootable in game! They look pretty slick.

NOTABLE BUGFIXES AND CHANGES
  • Fixed the cloth physics bug that caused despawning cloth to sometimes crash other clients. Players would see a dialog box with the phrase “Pure virtual function call” on it, or would see “Runtime error.” This bug also necessitated 0.2.0.1’s disabling of all cloth physics on hairstyles, so accompanying the fix, the two disabled hairstyles have been reenabled.
  • Fixed a situation that could fail to login a ship upon its owner logging in.
  • Fixed an infinite loading bug when trying to log in. More work continues on this category of bugs.
  • Wood weight reduced across the board by 15%. Objects crafted from wood should also receive a higher HP bonus across the board. Finally, wood in the inventory now stacks to 2000.
  • Small, medium, and window panels now have the same resilience as large panels, and have had their weights adjusted.
  • Railing parts have had their resilience buffed as well.
  • Increased glider drop rate and reduced timed explosive drop rate.
  • Ship frames have had their beam costs halved. The resulting weight is unchanged.

OTHER FIXES AND TWEAKS
  • Some missing icons have been added.
  • Fixed Drissian Pistol to have the correct name.
  • Ship part schematics no longer have a “Basics” category - helms and sails and other parts now have their own categories.

Worlds Adrift

Premature Evaluation is the weekly column in which we explore the wilds of early access. This week, Fraser s learning to be a shipwright in airborne MMO, Worlds Adrift. Brendy looked at the ‘pre-early access’ version last year and had a good time with its always-there grappling hook and quick ship design, but fell foul of a few rough edges. As Bossa’s DIY skyboats affair has now graduated to early access proper, it’s time to find out how much things have improved.>

Worlds Adrift - Bossa Julia

Explore. Build. Unite. These are the pillars on which Worlds Adrift is built, but if there was ever a fourth pillar, it would be Survival. You see, as beautiful as the lands of Foundation are, its skies are truly perilous; a hunting ground of mantas and pirates, alike. Worlds Adrift is a PvP game, after all, but at what point does conflict-by-design become ‘griefing’, and what do we propose to do in order to ensure the former doesn’t ultimately result in the latter?

Hands up. And I don’t mean in the at-gunpoint sense (despite this being a piece on PvP!). Rather, ‘hands up’ in that we know and very much acknowledge there’s work to be done. We have only just entered Early Access in what is the very first step of an ongoing journey, and so the game is by no means a fully-finished product. Huge changes will be made to Worlds Adrift, as we continue to listen and react to your feedback in the continued development of this Community-Crafted MMO. And in that vein, it’s come to our attention - whether that’s from Steam reviews, social comments or just general feedback - that the onboarding process requires some attention as far as PvP is concerned.

While mid-level PvP (i.e once you’ve managed to progress past the initial Biome) is working well, it’s apparent that some players are struggling to reach this point, due to a minority of more advanced players returning to the beginner’s zone for, let’s say, some “easy pickings”. This pretty much exemplifies the difference between PvP and griefing; one is a fair fight between two similarly levelled players. The other, a completely unbalanced slaughter, whereby one player has little to no chance of defending themselves.

And so, we’re looking to improve this onboarding experience in a number of ways to ensure players have the best introduction to the world possible, and a better chance of progressing past the first zone. The team are working hard to implement these changes as soon as possible, but in the meantime, we’d strongly suggest visiting the official Worlds Adrift forums, where you can you recruit crews, learn tips and tricks, and chat with the community!

Bossa Co-Founder and Chief-in-Game, Henrique Olifiers, explained what Early Access means to Worlds Adrift in his recent blog post, confirming that we will ‘constantly update and tweak the game following your experience with it,’ and that ‘the next few weeks will be fundamental to set this into motion’. Well, experience you have, and now we’re ready to react. In fact, here’s Henrique again (in person, this time!), reiterating how important we treat your feedback, and how determined we are to get this right.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XYkjHeVmDE

So as always, we want to hear from you. If you’ve got any ideas on how we can improve Worlds Adrift, jot them down in the comments below, or if you’d like to join the PvP discussion then get on over to the dedicated forum post here. As we said, this is an ongoing journey, and one on which we hope you’ll join us, to ensure we reach the right destination.

See you in the skies!

Worlds Adrift

It’s hard not to have a game like Worlds Adrift set the imagination alight. Bossa Studios’ foray into the world of massively multiplayer gaming stands out from the crowd with its user-built world of floating islands, delightfully swooshy grappling-hook physics and its entirely player-crafted sky-ships. Previously in closed beta, the game has moved to Steam’s early access section and opened its doors to everyone with twenty quid, give or take. Just be warned that unless you Bring Your Own Buddies, you might be facing rougher conditions than just storms and fog.
