Here we are again with our next character update! We have a bunch of to share, from Woodies’s character refresh, his new skin sets, new twitch drops, Salty Dog comes to beta and a big console update!
Here we go!
Tree’s a Crowd
Every character has their story, and with each refresh, secrets will be revealed. See what new surprises Woodie has to share with you here.
With the effects of the moon stronger than ever, Woodie has finally embraced his wild side. Armed with two new were-forms and a (knick-)knack for controlling his strange curse, he's ready to face anything the Constant can throw at him.
Woodie Character Refresh
In addition to Werebeaver, Woodie now has two new transformations that specialize in different things, such as combat and locomotion.
A random transformation can be triggered by repeatedly consuming Monster Meat (or prepared dishes like Monster Lasagna).
A specific transformation can be triggered by consuming one of the three new craftable idols made with Monster Meat.
The Log Meter has been replaced with a Were-Meter that appears only during Woodie’s were-forms.
The Were-Meter drains constantly, and Woodie reverts to Human form once it runs out.
Performing specific actions will extend Woodie’s time in each were-form.
During fullmoon, Woodie is forced into a random transformation (once per fullmoon), and the Were-Meter drains at half the speed.
Reduced Woodie’s sanity drain while in were-form.
Woodie no longer gains sanity when planting trees.
Woodie no longer needs to eat wood.
Woodie has a 50% higher chance to spawn Treeguards and Poison Birchnut Trees.
Werebeaver no longer spawns Treeguards and Poison Birchnut Trees
Like the Werebeaver, all new were-forms gain night vision and some weather resistance.
Woodie can now view the Map while transformed.
We have also added 2 new skin packs for purchase. We had a lot of fun with this one and we hope that all you Woodie mains out there love him even more! Some of you out there might even find a new love for the Constant's coolest Canadian castaway.
We also have a couple other interesting things happening on September 12th.
Return of Them: Salty Dog
In addition to Woodie's refresh coming into the main game, the next part of our Return of Them content update will be coming to the beta branch (with Woodie playable there as well) on September 12th. We will have more details about it next Thursday, but in this update you will see a new boss, new items, a new creature and a new crafting resource.
Console Update:
We have everything ready and we're preparing for console players to receive Woodie next week, but in addition you will also be getting Return of Them: Turn of Tides content as well! This has not gone all the way through certification yet, so it's possible it could be off a day or two, but at this time we don't expect any delays.
As always with Console, this isn't entirely up to us, so we may get a delay of a day or two while we work through certification, but as of right now we expect this to release next week as well.
That's all I have for now. We look forward to your thoughts and feedback. See you Thursday!
Something ancient stirs in the night sky, and the world below will never be the same. A strange new island teeming with life has appeared, and with it, a whole new slew of challenges for our Survivors to face.
Keep a wary eye out. They’re almost here.
Key Features:
New Boat Mechanics: Don’t sink together! Build and deck out a boat large enough to carry you and your fellow Survivors across the sea.
New Seafaring Crafting Menu: Craft everything you’ll need to hit the high seas.
The Lunar Island: Explore a strange lunar landscape filled with bizarre creatures.
New Lunar Island Biomes: Discover 3 new biomes loaded with valuable new resources, craftables, and fearsome enemies.
Enlightenment: See the world from a new perspective as your Sanity is replaced by an all-new Enlightenment meter.
Console Players:
As noted in a previous post, we need extra time to get this update out to console. We expect this to take an additional 3-4 weeks (hopefully less), and we will update you with the expected date as soon as we submit to cert and have a better handle on what the date will be.
I don't think it's going to make it in for Turn of Tides but we also wanted to let console players know that we will soon be introducing something new just for you.
Currently console skin offerings are very limited because each time we put new skins on console we have to go through the entire certification process as well as the process for setting up DLC, which in the past has proven to be more time consuming than we'd hoped. However, if we instead put everything up as one package and allow them to be paid for with virtual currency, we're no longer so limited. This also brings us another step closer to providing better support for console. Consider it like being able to buy Spool to weave your items. This takes a lot of coordination with the platform and is not a main priority, so it's going to be a while. But we want console players to know a solution is coming; likely in an update following Turn of Tides.
Everybody:
Finally, we wanted to do something a bit special for all of you; just for fun. So for the next two weeks if you log into Don't Starve Together, all players on PC will receive the "Roseate Sail" so you can deck out your new boat with a little bit of style. We will offer the item for console when it goes live there as well.
We'll be updating the game with hotfixes for the issues that are most pressing, but with this update the team will now moving on to developing new content.
Now that we have this first big chunk of content out, a lot of work has been done to prepare for future updates, which should allow us a much shorter update schedule from this point forward. We expect the next content update will hit the beta branch 4 weeks from now, and after 2 weeks of testing will be live in a total of 6 weeks from today; give or take a few days (probably give). We'll have more details about the content and date in a couple weeks.

Just dropping in for a quick (not-so-quick) update.
As I mentioned previously we ran into a bit of an issue that caused a delay in the live update "Turn of Tides". Long story short we had some performance issues that required a decent amount of work to correct. While it's ok on a beta branch, we did not feel comfortable putting things out to the live game in it's current state. So we thought it be good to let you all know what's been going on and where we stand.
Things worked on during the delay:
Put in Retrofitting (Adding new content to old worlds)
Improving the reaction of land creatures to the water environment. (fixing things like bosses just walking towards the player even though they are stuck on the shore)
Improved creature pathfinding when dealing with the water. (So they may or may go around a body of water, fly or swim across it if they can, depending on the situation)
Ocean related stability improvements. (lag)
In progress:
Making sure controller is properly supported for boating
Improving the visuals of the water. (Separating biomes, putting an edge to the world.)
Redesigned the gameplay of boat, mast, anchor and steering wheel for more interesting Ocean navigation.
We have done a lot of work that will prepare for future content so we do not expect upcoming content to experience this type of delay. We expect all future content to come on a regular schedule from here on out. We will have more details on that next week.
Console players:
Because of the complexity in the changes that were made to the game, we need extra time to get this update out to console. We expect this to take an additional 3-4 weeks (hopefully less), and we will update you with the expected date as soon as we submit to cert and have a better handle on what the date will be.
We are very sorry for this and we know this is going to be disappointing, but we believe that given the extent of the changes we are making to the game, we need the extra time to make sure everything is ready.
And More:
We have also been working on a few other things. These things are mostly outside of the content team and doesn't affect the current content plan, but we have something new for you today.
We have been working on a system that will allow you to collect "points" on your account by doing various things like subscribing to our Youtube or following us on Twitter and then use those points to get items. Currently we will be using this to distribute our out of cycle Twitch items rather than selling them as we had previously suggested. This allows players to get what they missed before or just get them without going through Twitch.
In the future we will update the rewards program with new ways to earn more points and pick up cool rewards they may have missed, or even possibly entirely new stuff. Let us know what you think here.
That's all I have for now. Thanks everybody, have fun out there!

Dropping in to let you know that Warly will be coming July 25th, I will have a post next week with details about his upcoming skins and info as usual.
In addition I hope to have more info on the upcoming content for Return of Them too.
I understand that this has left console players out of the loop here a bit but we ran into an issue in testing where we found a pretty bad memory issue related to the new oceans. We were left with a situation where we would either have to release the next update without the new ocean and boats and rearrange the lunar islands or spend a bunch of time getting that fixed up so it was good to ship soon.
So, when I have more definitive info on the next live update I will let you all know. We also are working on something else... unannounced that I hope to share soon as well that I think you will all enjoy (especially console).
Once again, sorry for all the timing issues, we're getting it sorted out. Thanks for your patience.

And of course, we will have a new Wormwood animated short and more details When Wormwood launches on June 6th. But for now, here is a nice image from the next animated short!
With the Willow refresh newly launched, it’s time for the next phase: new game content! I’d like to update you all on our current plan.
Return of Them
Over the next several months, we’ll be releasing a series of game updates available to all players, under the single thematic focus entitled “Return of Them”.
Charlie’s machinations have come to a head as she turns her attention towards the skies - and the mysterious entity that awaits there. Our Survivors will be forced to contend with terrifying monstrosities beyond their comprehension, and yet, there may be a silver lining: their minds and horizons will be expanded under the sublime light of an ancient moon.
Here is an overview of what is available in our first update, Turn of Tides:
Added a new multiplayer-centric boat mechanic, where players can build and deck out a boat for multiple survivors to travel together on
Added a new boating craft menu
Added the Lunar Island
Added Enlightenment
Added 3 new Lunar Island biomes, along with new creatures, objects, and craftables
For this first update, we’ve focused primarily on building the fundamental tech and infrastructure for Return of Them. Please know that we expect this update to be a bit content light, and over the following months we will be adding more content to both the islands and the sea.
In addition to new content, we are preparing for the arrival of the next new character. We’re happy to announce that Wormwood will soon enter the fray, fresh from his adventures in Don't Starve: Hamlet!
Wormwood is coming to Don’t Starve Together on June 6th, and will be priced similarly to Wortox. In addition, anyone who owns Don’t Starve: Hamlet will have access to Wormwood for free.
Warly
For the next character refresh, Warly will be sailing into the Constant from Shipwrecked on July 18th, and will be free to all players of Don’t Starve Together.
As with all character updates, Warly will be getting a design refresh and come with new abilities specific to Don’t Starve Together.
And that’s it! Onward and seaward!
F.A.Q.
What about console? Since console does not have beta branch functionality, consoles will be getting Turn of Tides at the official launch in June.
When is my favorite character getting a refresh? We will announce more characters refreshes as we get to them. If you have suggestions and feedback make sure to post them. We are watching and we do use that information to help us decide what we want to do next.
Will my existing worlds be affected if I switch to the beta branch? No. Save data for the beta branch is kept separate from the live branch at: \\Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogetherReturnOfThemBeta
Will my existing worlds work in the beta branch if I copy them over? Not at this time. For future updates, we will look into the possibility of retrofitting the new content into existing DST worlds, as we did for the A New Reign updates.
