When first designed in 1947, the Douglas Skyray™ was on the cutting edge of aviation technology. In 1948, Douglas Aircraft™ was contracted to build the F4D-1™, with the first flight of a production model taking place in 1954. Known as the 'ten-minute killer', the aircraft broke five world records in the time-to-altitude category and exceeded Mach 1 in level flight. In 1953, the Skyray™ shared honors with North American's Super Sabre™ in being awarded the prestigious Collier Trophy. In the late 1950s, an F4D1-equipped squadron was recognized as the top interceptor squadron in the North American Air Defense Command, an area previously dominated by Air Force aircraft.
In all, Douglas produced 421 Skyrays, including two XF4D™ prototypes. The last of the type left the El Segundo, California, plant in December, 1958. It was designated the F-6A™ in 1963 and served both Marine and Navy carrier squadrons until early 1964.
Virtavia’s Douglas F4D Skyray for FSX: Steam Edition comes with four loadout variations (including one clean), various animations, and an awesome smoke trail effect making this a welcome addition to any virtual military fleet

A technological tour de force of epic proportions, the legend of the XB-70 Valkyrie™ very nearly surpasses the performance of this extraordinary aircraft. Built in the 1960s as a result of a USAF proposal for a supersonic bomber with high subsonic cruising speed and supersonic dash capabilities, the massive XB-70™ was to have carried the same bombload as the B-52 Stratofortress™ at a higher supersonic speed than the Air Force's current strategic bomber, the B-58 Hustler™.
A later requirement specified that the plane be able to fly the entire mission at Mach 3.0 or greater, with a range of up to 10,500 miles and a maximum gross weight of 490,000 pounds. In the event, technology quickly relegated the Valkyrie to the role of supersonic research testbed and flagship of the USAF's public relations fleet. Ground-to-air missiles and advanced radar made the XB-70's supersonic mission impossible. The bomb bay of the aircraft was instead packed with data acquisition equipment.

The Boeing-Vertol CH-47 Chinook™ is a versatile, twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy-lift helicopter. Boasting top speeds of 170 knots (196 mph, 315 km/h), the Chinook ™ was faster than contemporary utility and attack helicopters when it was introduced in the 1960s. It is one of the few aircraft of that era such as the C-130 and the UH-1 'Huey' that is still in front line service with over 1,179 built so far. Its primary roles include troop movement, artillery emplacement and battlefield resupply.
Virtavia’s FSX: Steam Edition of the Chinook is a faithful reproduction of the aircraft featuring various animations, authentic flight dynamics, and high res gauges. A great aircraft for helio fans and military aviation fans alike!

Night Environment: Connecticut for FSX: Steam Edition revolutionizes your VFR night flying experience. Using a series of databases, this add-on implements authentic and immersive lighting to different road types and other areas. Thousands of lights clearly illuminate highways that connect cities and smaller roads which link neighbourhoods.
The Night Environment database contains more road data than default FSX: Steam Edition, so roads you may not see during the day become visible at night. All lights are visible for up to 60 miles for a more immersive experience. All highway lights are raised above the surface and have a lit bitmap below them, giving them a 3D feel.
Night Environment: Connecticut also comes with a configuration tool (Night Environment Manager v1.8) so you can customize the intensity of your night flying experience.
