Remember: Street Fighter V [official site] is playing for the long run, trying to become a solid eSport, aiming to still be around a few years from now. At launch, our review praised the punching, but lamented that so much content would arriving months later in free updates.

The first of those updates is almost here, and it’s very substantial, so much so Capcom have announced they’re splitting it in two. March 28th will bring Challenge Mode, rematches and improved lobbies, while new fighter Alex and the in-game shop will make their debut on the 30th. There are also a couple of free costumes as an apology for the shaky launch, and a delay on the in-game currency tied to real money. Follow me past the break and we’ll go over everything.

When Street Fighter V [official site] came out a fortnight ago, it was a wee bit barebones. While some absent features are things we knew would come later, like the proper story mode, others were more surprising – like key rebinding, and punishment for rage quitting. Capcom now say they have a solution coming, and punishments too.

The face-punching core of Street Fighter V [official site] is pretty great, so our Wot I Think says. So Capcom have issued a status update which goes over the launch problems and into future plans. Expect better controller support and keyboard rebinding, for starters.

Street Fighter V [official site] is out, it is pretty dang fun, though barebones right now, (or so our Wot I Think sez), and it… has picked up a few tricks from your old pal Alice. Like me playing Street Fighter, when the announcer declared the battle was on, the game promptly fell over. Pugilists faced online disconnections and downtime last night, and problems persist today. Capcom are working on it, and say they’re jolly sorry.

Street Fighter® IV - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Andi Hamilton)

With any long-running series, there’s a delicate balance between retaining the things that people love and refreshing the decor. With Street Fighter V [official site], Capcom have come close to hitting a reset button marked ‘1991’ when it comes to fighting systems and yet this is the most forward-looking game in the series, with one eye fixed on the world of esports. It’s a streamlined entry in the mighty fightin’ series, for better and for worse, and we sent fisticuffs expert Andi Hamilton into the fray to see how it all works. He returned with these words of judgement.>
