We Need To Go Deeper - Nick Lives

Get snarly for February's content update, and We Need To Go Deeper's two year anniversary month! This month, we have no less than 3 new beastly bosses, enemy improvements, fixes, and more!

Features

NEW Boss: The Leviathan! - The beast of legends, The Leviathan has revealed itself within the Cursed Waters, lurking in a boney graveyard. Not only is this a fearsome beast with its hull-shattering beak and claws, but she's clever too, known to dash away only to ambush its prey from new angles.

NEW Boss: The Sightless! - These slithering twin eels lurk in the shadowy Dark Depths, each blind in their own way. Luckily for them, a scent and sound is all they need to track down and surprise their prey by bursting out of the very soil they reside within.

NEW Boss: The Erupting Shell! - Smoldering no more, this gargantuan tortoise in the Volcanic Depths has developed none other than an entire erupting volcano on its rocky exterior! Boiling with rage inside and out, the Erupting Shell will protect its vent-heated domain at any cost.

Smarter Swimmers! - The AI of your average swimming foe has been improved! Swimming enemies can now better target their prey to aim their attacks where it really counts! Additionally, swimmers now know when they've been outmatched, and will temporarily flee the scene if things are looking bad for them. This will also allow for a new variety of swimmer types in future, as fleeing behavior can be tweaked on a per-enemy basis!

Fixes and Changes

  • Barnacle mines can no longer be spawned infinitely during sub-biomes.
  • Lair Guardian ragdoll can no longer be farmed indefinitely.
  • Butcher knife now only creates meat from dead bodies/ragdolls.
  • Several colliders fixed to prevent ground-based enemies from floating.
  • Enemy sound effects given random pitch variance.
  • Mud Giant's sucking ability tweaked to prevent cheesing.
  • Rare Mud Giant "disappearing" bug fixed with cave console timeout.
  • Fixed a bug causing slow enemy turning.
  • Improved charging behavior math.
  • fixed a visual glitch causing bubbles to appear in between layers of the Pale Whale.

The last fix drop of the month, but certainly not the last round of fixes we'll need before release. This time up, we're tackling saves again! Namely addressing saving/loading between multiple steam accounts and cloud save issues. The specific fixes are below:

  • Added sub-folders to keep track of which steam account a save was made in to address multi-account save overwrite errors. This will not be able to "rescue" saves that were previously affected unfortunately, but is meant to prevent future occurrences.

  • Added backup saving system to create automatic backups of save files in your Steam ID subfolder when creating new saves.

ATTENTION: For ensuring your saves during this transition phase, please make a backup copy of your .data files located at C:\Users\(you)\AppData\LocalLow\Deli Interactive\We Need to Go Deeper and keep them handy for this initial process. Since we didn't track Steam IDs before this patch, the issue could still occur in saves created prior to the patch, so ensure your saves if you have a machine with multiple users. After the update, this should no longer occur, however.

  • A new safeguard added to try and prevent some of the newly reported saving errors.
  • Double monitor mouselocking should now be working properly, meaning you won't accidentally click out of game.
  • Custom data packet added to assist mod support.

::: Community Highlights :::

This month, we've seen an awful lot of cool WNTGD-inspired artwork coming out of user Sakke in our Discord community! Some of it is even animated in Unity, giving it that authentic WNTGD feel! Here are just a few embeddable highlights:

In other news, user NateKomodo is at it again with building out even more modding capability into his custom mod engine, even going so far as bringing some of Goober's creations to life in-game recently!

Finally, we have also been seeing some good old fashioned pen-and-pencil pieces on the Discord! Here are just a couple highlights:

Thanks everyone for sharing your passion with us! This is seriously always so amazing to see all these works you guys make. :D

Incidentally, one last quick shoutout to ADcrafter who has, to this day, been updating and maintaining our official Wiki constantly to keep it up to date, consistently sending us error logs, and has just been an all around helpful dude in the community. You rock, man.

::: Player of the Month :::

This month's player of the month is alpinobanshee!

Ever-frequenting the forums, alpinobanshee has been vigilant in letting their voice be heard about many topics, and has provided a wealth of interesting suggestions and ideas, while giving feedback and contributing to others' threads as well! All of this while still remaining civil in the forums and with others, which can be a rare trait for opinionated folks! For that, we want to recognize alpinobanshee as January's player of the month. Congrats!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let us know what y'all think of the new update as always, and we'll try our best to continue cracking down on bugs as we come closer to a full release!

We're nearly at the two year mark now, which is totally insane to think about. But the finale is on the horizon we swear!

What better way to ring in the new year than by wallowing in the trash of the old? This week, the Trash Hermit has some new treasures in store for those who seek useless filth! Brought to you by the courtesy of last year's assets, which have been waiting for this moment to shine.

We Need To Go Deeper - Nick Lives

This New Year's eve, we're dropping a new affliction for the Aurelian Depths: A rare crystal-like growth known to the Aurelians as The Golden Gift!

The Golden Gift grants you the very essence of life, giving you +2 max health upon contracting it! But be warned, for this essence comes at the cost of every other player stat. Your arms get weaker, your legs get slower, and your lungs shrivel under the power of the Golden Gift. (-2 per stat)

Have a Happy New Year, everybody!

It's time again for the weekly content drop! This week: Profanity Filtering! A much-requested feature from families playing the game, our players can now go to the "Technical Options" menu and check this checkbox to turn common curse words into harmless asterisks! This works on character names, in-game chat, and lobby names!

On top of this, we now have a little more texture in the Deeper soundscape. We've added sounds for:
-Navigation wheel turning
-Lions and tigers
-Lever movement in navigation and weapons consoles
-Sugarplum fairies
-Starfish
-XMas rats

Hope you folks enjoy, and happy holidays!
We Need To Go Deeper - Nick Lives

Has X-mas come early? Today we're dropping a giftbox-style bonus content drop for y'all, bringing four new fabulous sub upgrades:

  • Harpoon Gun! - Fire endless harpoons that stick into your enemies and knock them back in the process!

  • Shield Absorption Upgrade - Raise your maximum damage absorbed by shields!

  • Light Upgrade - Increases the strength and radius of your lights! One-time upgrade.

  • EMP Recharge Upgrade - Decreases the time it takes to recharge the EMP!

We've also fixed it so Sugarplum fairies no longer destroy your ships, sorry about that. They're far kinder now.

Happy Diving!
