Ubisoft's third year of content for multiplayer melee fighter For Honor is now underway on Xbox One, PS4, and PC, bringing with it a new hero, a new map, and more.
According to Ubisoft's recent deep dive video, the Year of the Harbinger (as this third year is known) will be "doing things a little differently", featuring a somewhat darker tone than usual. Year 3 will, once again, consist of four "seasons" spread throughout 2019, with the first and current season, Vortiger, set to run until the end of April. Season 2 stretches from May to July, Season 3 runs from August to October, and the final season begins in December. A special Hallowe'en event is planned for October.
Those logging into For Honor today, however, can enjoy the first round of promised additions to the game, including hero reworks for the Shoguki, Warlord, and Peacekeeper, a new map - known as Harbor, and featuring a port town on the shores of Lake Eitrivatnen - plus the Black Prior, a new "heavy" hero, armed with a giant kite shield and longsword.
Last year saw For Honor reborn to stand with Ubisoft stablemate Rainbow Six Siege, and today marks the third-person team brawler’s first major update of 2019. A war-torn harbor map is available for all to play around, but the most interesting half of this update is the Black Prior hero, available in both boy and girl forms. A dark knight that straddles the gap between Visigoth and Modern Goth, liking black leather, looking moody, they fight in ways that their more chivalrous friends probably tut disapprovingly of. Take a peek at both the map and character below.
For Honor may have bounced back from the brink, but that hasn’t saved it from being subsumed into the UbiGame collective, becoming an Assassin’s Creed game for the holidays. Ubisoft’s clever online take on the fighting game genre is largely transformed by the For The Creed event until January 10th, now featuring armies of Assassins and Templars fighting in the Animus. The event features a time-limited spin on Dominion mode, where players aim to hack through enough of the enemy grunts to draw out the rival commander, including AC characters like Ezio Auditore (yay!) and Cesare Borgia (boo, hiss!). Take a peek at the trailer below.
The world of Assassin's Creed collides with For Honor from today.
The For the Creed in-game event runs from 20th December to 10th January on all platforms.
It includes a variation of the four versus four Dominion mode called Assassini e Templari in which you capture zones to spawn Ezio Auditore da Firenze and Cesare Borgia out to battle.
For Honor is still trucking along - Ubisoft just announced a raft of updates coming to the melee combat game during its third year.
Four seasonal updates themed around the Year of the Harbinger are planned. These updates include new heroes, new maps, gameplay balance updates as well as seasonal in-game events.
This all kicks off 31st January 2019 with the new season, Vortiger. This adds a new Knight hero to the game as well as a new map. Here's how the roadmap looks:
