We’re nearly at the end of silly season: most of the big releases are out now, with only Watch No Underscore Dogs Two really still to go. It’s been a messy one for a lot of the big companies, by all accounts. Let’s see how it shook out during Dishonored 2 launch week.

It’s only three days ago — on the 7th — that Adam told us all Wot He Thought of new sportsdad ’em up Motorsport Manager [official site] yet it feels so much longer. Should you have been dazed and possibly a bit drunk this week, slightly out of sync with the world, you might well appreciate a reminder that the game has now actually come out, launched overnight. This here Motorsport Manager is an expanded spin-off from Playsport Games’ mobile series of the same name, but don’t be put off by that. Adam will tell you this is good stuff. … [visit site to read more]

you known nothing about how Battlefield is selling on PC, Jon Snow

Last week, like drinking mulled wine on a chilly November evening, I found great comfort in a Steam top ten that seemed to reflect the wide, weird and wonderful nature of modern PC gaming. After months of recurrent names, it was a bright new dawn of variety. Anything is possible.

I am a fool. … [visit site to read more]

The sponsors won’t pay out if at least one of my two drivers doesn’t finish in the top six. There are six laps to go and Mustafa El Sadat, my best hope, is in fourth place, and far enough behind the three leaders that it doesn’t seem sensible to adopt an aggressive strategy. If he can maintain his current pace, he should be able to finish fourth and while I’d prefer a podium finish, a season of work has taught me that Motorsport Manager [official site] does not reward over-ambition. This is a game in which to choose your fights carefully and to celebrate every small victory rather than pushing for the big win against the odds.

Just before the launch of Football Manager 2017 [official site], with the beta already released to the many people who preordered the game, I spoke to Sports Interactive director Miles Jacobson about the changes his team have made in this latest game in the series. We talked about AI improvements, Brexit, and whether Leicester winning the Premier League was a happy day or a sad day at Sports Interactive.

Football Manager 2017 [official site] is out tomorrow but I’ve been playing the beta for a couple of weeks now, striving to climb from the lower leagues to the dizzy heights, and seeing if I can do a better job with post-Ferguson Manchester United than Jose Mourinho. Neither of us know quite what to do with Paul Pogba, I have concluded.

Along the way to trophies and triumph, I’ve had to deal with social media, new artificial intelligence routines and a coaching staff that are chattier than ever. Here’s wot I think.
