Out with the old, in with the new. By which I mean ‘and our weekly Steam Charts, showing the ten games which sold best over the previous week, returns – replete with most of the same names as last year.’
SHOULD AULD ACQUAINTANCE BE FORGOT AND NEVER BROUGHT TO MIND?
Welcome back. … [visit site to read more]

Had a week off. (No, not a holiday, no such thing when there’s a three-year-old in the house). Bit of a break from writing about games. Though I’d rebuild and resupply a little, come back fighting fit, ready for anything GAMESWORLD might throw at me next.
Anything but this. … [visit site to read more]

Black Friday 2016 is finally here, and it’s of course the biggest day for deals yet. We’ve rounded up the best below, so if you’re looking for great games or PC hardware, step inside.

Oh sure, Pok mon Go players may be pests, hanging around congested pavements and getting in the way, but they’ve nothing on Gwent players. Imagine if they asked you – all of them asked you – if you had any Gwent cards to sell and they bugged you for battles. Insufferable. NPCs in The Witcher 3 must’ve groaned every time they saw Geralt wandering the streets, deck in hand and a hopeful look on his face.
Thankfully, the free-to-play standalone spin-off Gwent: The Witcher Card Game [official site] will be more Hearthstone than Pok mon Go, with no strolling or nagging. We’ve no word yet on when Gwent will launch but it is now in closed beta, if you’re feeling lucky. … [visit site to read more]

The Witcher 3 [official site] is the longest game I’ve played for years, or at least the longest game that I’ve actually come close to completing. There was a time when I’d be thrilled to hear about a new fifty or sixty hour epic adventure, very much subscribing to the policy the more the better , but now I’m more likely to flinch away from the screen when a game’s sprawl is revealed.
I’ve realised that my aversion to enormous games has been growing for a while, but the announcement of Red Dead Redemption 2 brought it into sharp focus. Do I really want> yet another massive open world game? I’m not sure that I do.

The recently launched Witcher 3 Game of the Year Edition marked the end of the line for Geralt’s latest outing – pulling together the outstanding base game and two equally impressive expansions. Now seems like as good a time as any to visit its best mods for some extra mileage.
Before we dive Witcher Sense-first into this here best The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt [official site] mods list, though, I’d like to add a wee disclaimer…

Meer stared at himself in the mirror. Was he really a man anymore? Or was he just a machine made of meat that endlessly pasted the same handful of game-names into a CMS post, week after week until he died?
Or was he dead already? Was this hell? Yes, that must be it. What else could writing “a href=”https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/tag/Grand-Theft-Auto-V” for an eternity possibly be?
Yet still, there was faint hope in those dim, anguished eyes. Hope that one day there might be new games, new hyperlinks, new opinions> to be expressed. One day. But not today. … [visit site to read more]

Cos this stuff comes up in comments most every time I run one of these: these charts depict the top ten best-selling games on Steam as accumulated over the week leading up to Sunday just gone. They are not what are the top ten best-selling games at this moment in time, as seen on the front-page of Steam and which are invariably a little different. They come from this here Valve RSS feed. If there is any massaging of figures or weighing of e.g. revenue earned vs copies sold then I do not know of it, but neither can I say for certain that there is not. This is, however, pretty much all that Steam ever lets slip about what’s going on, though you can look to the guesstimates on Steam Spy if you want to try and drill down further into actual figures.
So: Steam’s ten biggest games last week. Well, nine and a half. Deus Ex has been dethroned already.

“Wait for the Game of the Year Edition,” they tell you, tapping their nose conspiratorially. “Never pay a milliner – you can restore your hat by felting your navel fluff,” they hiss. “And remember to hang fennel above your door to ward off witches.”
I’m not sure how useful the GotY tip is now, given that games and their DLC season passes go on sale every other week, but I know some of you still believe. If you have been waiting for a GotY Edition before playing The Witcher 3 [official site], then I bring good news: that’s out today. For the rest of us, hey, a new patch is here too.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided [official site] has a problem, and his name is Adam Jensen. Human Revolution’s returning protagonist has been my single greatest obstacle to enjoying a game I had, frankly, taken it for granted that I would enjoy. I don’t understand why this is his game – other than on a commercial level, of course. In the public eye, the Deus Ex brand is not the DIY route and vaguely philosophical reality-questioning that it might be to an older PC gamer. It’s The One With The Bearded Bloke With The Elbow Swords And The Sunglasses Built Into His Eye Sockets. That’s why Jensen’s back, not because the story DXMD is trying to tell needed him. If anything, he undermines it. … [visit site to read more]
