Hello and welcome!

This is the first feature reveal for the June Update, landing on the 27th PT. The title "Balance Pass" probably doesn't accurately encompass how large an adjustment this is, so we're just going to share all of the gameplay adjustments we're making, including heroes, rings, amulets and card changes.

I don't know about you, but I'm hype. A huge portion of these are community suggested or at least community inspired, so thank you for all of those who have been hittin' us with feedback.

  • Sylas is largely affected by the aforementioned Bounty change. Bounties will be applied after attacking King's Guards and The King.

FAQ

WHAT? WHY?
This balance pass is guided specifically by analytics surrounding player behaviour and game outcomes. The question "why the hell did you change that", in almost every case here is, because...
a. people aren't using the thing.
b. people aren't winning enough with the thing (relevant to other choices)
c. the thing is frustrating to play against
d. we see a great opportunity for the thing
e. a combination of the above

Beheaded
The Follower economy in Armello is currently quite low, and Followers are outrageously fun. In some cases, they modify how heroes are played completely. The fun of removing someone else's Follower, doesn't outweigh the fun that you're deducting from the game as a whole.

Considering in some cases games end before two players have followers, we don't like the idea of having a card to kill followers, AND a different card to steal 'em. For now (everything is fluid, things can change), we're comfortable with Bribery being the go-to for Follower "removal". We'll monitor how this feels closely.

Dig
This Amulet was straight up almost never picked, for good reason. The function is hard to quantify when you're in the thick of a game. There was no feedback as to how it was helping you, and there's a chance that it simply provided no benefit.

If you regularly use this Amulet, hello statistical anomaly, how are you today?

We're trying this option out for now to see if it feels fun and appealing. We also have another, heavier option that could be implemented at some stage either as an alternative or a rework.

Twiss & Sylas
These two heroes are incredibly popular and powerful. Their win rates were simply too far outside of the norm to allow to cruise as they are. Their identities remain intact and they'll still be strong.

Ghor
Ah, Ghor. When implementing a mechanic that reduced Spell cost, we never knew that he'd become such an antagonist. He basically suppressed other players by spamming nukes, but also at the same time had a really poor win rate.

This made him bad to play against, because you're like "damn this bear is going to just blast me from across the map" AND bad to play as, due to you being a target, no stealth yada yada. Basically his hero power didn't work, and wasn't a good reflection of his character thematically.

We've also noted that defensive hero powers are underexplored, and typically a lot of fun in Armello (see Twiss and Elyssia). Activating his new hero power is fun, and also makes for a really interesting decision space for his opponents.

Try it out, see how he feels. We think you'll like it.

As we steadily approach the June update we will see what's to come on the horizon. The update will land on June 27th, and the open beta will land on the 13th PT.

This time around the open beta will kick off a little earlier than normal, giving us the precious time to test some exciting new features. For details on how to access that beta, keep an eye out for a Steam News Announcement on that day.

Until our grand launch dates, we'll be revealing each feature one by one here through Steam Announcements and on Twitter and Facebook.

Make wild speculations about what's to come in the comments below for fake internet points later if you guess right.

Revel Armellians, the May Update is live!

This marks the fourth monthly update on the Road to 2.0 and we're not stopping yet. Ensure your Steam client is up to date and jump on in there and experience the shiny new bits and pieces.

If you're a human that enjoys reviewing build notes rather than my delicious descriptions, you can find 'em here! Let's get stuck into the major three features for this update.

These two new Trickery cards are a contribution to the recently implemented Merchant system, but are a little more accessible for the cheaper adventurers out there. You can check out their original reveal post here.

Two new House Rules will be landing in the May update! Hero AP and Mirror World.

Hero AP is simple enough with two choices, +1 or +2. By selecting this option, every Hero in Armello will gain the relevant AP each turn.

The Mirror World House Rule modifies the map generation, so one quarter of the map is mirrored to the other three corners. Every quarter of the board are configured identically, making each Hero's starting quadrant exactly the same. You can find the original announcement here.

This is Armello's fifth Novella, and the spotlight is on Sana and the Bear Clan. To pick this up, simply visit Skeeve's Shop and he'll have it there for you, free or charge. From there to read it, head to your inventory and open it up! You can find the original announcement post here.

There we have it folks, hope you all dig the changes. The next update is never too far away too, so it's never too soon to start scheming, dreaming and suggesting. As always please hit us up on Twitter and Facebook if that's up your alley and we'll see you soon.

Cheers,

HI!

So all of the juicy features have been revealed for the May Update and we're closing in on the launch date, the 23rd of May PT. The beta is live, so the only thing left now is to get in there and roll around in the changes!

Just a heads up that we'll be holding back Sana's Novella from this beta build, and it'll go live on the proper launch date.

How do I get in there?!
All you have to do is navigate to your Steam Library and locate Armello and do the following...
Right click Armello -> Properties -> Betas -> Select the open beta from the dropdown menu

This will download the beta version of Armello. Please be mindful that changing back will cause you to redownload the base game, if you're conscious of your downloads.

Double Drops are active on the beta branch
So for every chest you would receive after playing a game, you will instead receive two, effectively doubling your maximum possible daily chests.

SUBMIT YOUR BUGS!
Naturally our excellent QA individuals have checked every nook and cranny of this build but gamedev is the wild wild west. If something goes wrong, please submit an in-game bug report through the pause menu! We want to catch and fix any little thing before the May Update goes live.

Feel free to blast any questions you might have from your internet cannons into the comments below. Chat soon *kissy face* xoxoxoxo

Cheers,

HELLO!

Welcome to the third and final feature reveal for the May Update launching on the 23rd PT! This one is short and sweet and should excite you lore fans. The beta for May has also been delayed, I'll include details on that below.

Anyway, Sana's Novella is on the way!

I'm not going to spoil any of the details but needless to say if you're a bear clan enthusiast, this may be the book for you. To pick this up, simply visit Skeeve's Shop and he'll have it there for you, free or charge. From there to read it, head to your inventory and open it up!

There we have it! Hope you're pumped for the May Update, hope you have a lovely weekend and we'll see you on the other side.

RE. BETA Unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances the beta has been delayed until Sunday, the 20th PT. Basically it's a localisation issue that sprung up last minute that we need to attend to before a build goes live.

Hello, hi!

Welcome to feature reveal number two for the May Update, landing on the 23rd PT. Here are a few House Rules that are being implemented that we've had a bunch of fun with. We're positive you will too.

We'll start with the simple one and then lead into the heavier one.

Hero AP

This is pretty straight forward, the Hero AP House Rule contains two options, +1 and +2. Turn these on and every hero in the game will have 4 or 5 AP per turn.

No quests are too far when this rule is on.

Mirror World

Map Generation shrouding your clan grounds in Swamps and Mountains?! Well now your opponents can suffer the same fate (yay).

The Mirror World House Rule modifies the map generation, so one quarter of the map is mirrored to the other three corners. Every quarter of the board are configured identically, making each Hero's starting quadrant exactly the same.

There we have it! These House Rules will be available upon the launch of the May Update and you can expect 'em to fold into Stranger Games rulesets. One feature remains so hold tight for the juicy details on that.

Greetings and welcome!

This is the first feature reveal for the upcoming May Update, landing on the 23rd. We're going to kick things off with a few glorious cards that'll be sneaking into the Trickery deck.

These friends are a contribution to the recently implemented Merchant system, but are a little more accessible for the cheaper adventurers out there.

Betty stocks brews BUT she's a consumable merchant - so she may just have a sneaky Throwing Axe or even some tea if you're in to that.

Simeon has the arms you need... I mean he doesn't have arms but he has arms... You get it. When brought to a town, he will graciously provide you with a choice between three equippable Item cards.

There you have it! I hope you like Betty and Simeon, we'll be back in not too long to share the rest of the bits and pieces in the coming update.

PS The text below is intended for our Russian players that were affected by the widespread IP addresses bans.
